This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I don't post in here all that often or on CAG in general these days, but I just wanted to say this is one of my favorite threads and I love you all.

Note: Marvel Puzzle quest released on steam btw... (link) If I didn't play the fuck out of it on my tablet and/or I could move my team with a proper login/out feature I would be more excited about it... but its pretty awesome for anyone looking at a free game to play on it. (Still never spent a dime in it.)
About that. . . were you able to finish the story on the mobile version? I have about a half-hour invested but I don't want to waste my time if it turns into a P2W scenario. The first few scenarios were surprisingly challenging for this type of game (unless I just suck at everyhing!).

So not only do you think you're a ninja squirrel, but apparently you're like 17 different ones, and you imagine the CAG community as that guy running away from (all of) you. I'm getting that correct, amirite?

Just want to throw this out for discussion...does anybody else feel like Bundlestars has been the best bundle site lately? I mean, Humble has gotten all the attention, and they've landed bigger games. But the last month or so has been fairly weak (Pinball bundle probably being the only exception), and with the new $6 tier, I just don't find myself looking to them as much.

Conversely, Bundlestars pretty much always gives you 8-9 Steam games in the $3-5 range...which just feels like the sweet spot to persuade me to buy things I might only have a casual interest in. Groupees has been doing all right in this regard as well (though, they probably get even lesser known games than Bundlestars). Just something I noticed when I get more excited about a new Bundlestars bundle launching than a new Humble.
My feelings are that Bundlestars has a lot of bang for your buck, but often half the games are utter trash and the other half have been bundled before. Groupees has a similar value proposition with less steam keys, but their weird games are almost always really interesting. I've discovered a lot of weird, cool shit through Groupees, and I consider them up there with Humble at this point, as a stranger, more underground brother.

I'd be all over that Tomb Raider collection if Squeenix weren't dicks and included the Survival Edition in it - or at least a way to upgrade to it.
You're right. Dicks! WE SHOULD KILL THEM!

But, in all seriousness, do you not find the way you consistently go into hyper-demolisher mode every time a dev does something you don't entirely agree with more than a little hyperbolic?

D stands for Derick.

We've been through this before - even though everybody likes to make that stand for God or Devil knows what.
If you don't want people to keep acting like the "D" stands for dick, then stop talking in the third person and calling yourself MyD.

A little self-awareness goes a long way, MysterD's penis.

Guys, stop being such Derickheads to each other. We're all BGs and CQs here.
Why u no hang in caht rum evur?

TL;DR :p

I completely agree. I've been tempted to almost buy it three times since it's release, but I'd rather play all five episodes consecutively without waiting "months" between episode releases. Essentially once all five (or however many) episodes are out is kind of like buying the GOTY version for these games. You most definitely get them cheaper and the complete season at that point.

It's probably a reason why I've held off on Kentucky Route Zero as well. That and the rare deep discount it's received since release. Oh yeah, and the fact it was released almost 10 months ago and only has 2 of the 5 Acts released. Wut!? I'll say it again... Wut!? I just don't get it. My backlog is too deep to be that dedicated even if it's insanely good. I'd have to replay all the previous episodes/acts to remember what was going on after that much of a time gap. It's like watching 2/5ths of a good movie for the first time or reading 2/5ths of a great new book, then waiting, getting the next 1/5th, and then having to rewatch\skim to get caught back up. (Edit: Although KRZ seems to be seperate stories with each Act or so I've read).

These types of games ask quite a lot out of the consumer. The Wolf Among Us might be worth it from what I've read and heard, but it's still kind of crazy. The waiting period is nutty. I think I read the last episode will come out Summer 2014? I wish it was closer to one new episode every 4-5 weeks. Oh well.

The difference to me is that KRZ is a super-indie production and feels more like buying ahead of time is kickstarting. You're a patron of the arts, I guess. Whereas Telltale is a successful company and has the funds and backing to put all the episodes out before seeing their full returns.

Ha I love that movie, not because George Clooney is the voice actor for Mr. Fox but the script and humour is just one of the best adaption from Roald Dahl's novels.
I challenge you to find a person whose core reason for liking that film was because George Clooney is the voice actor for Mr. Fox.

As a quirky, stop-motion Wes Anderson comedy, was that the selling point for anyone seeing it?

I'm old and bitter. Get off my lawn.

Seriously though, it's a bit infuriating but it's more... frustrating. Since I have no way of changing things I guess I just vent.

Sorry if it bothers you. I'll try to scale it back a bit.

It's not that the things you're complaining about aren't valid. It really would be nice to be able to upgrade to survivor edition. Most deluxe editions let you do that, and Square is leaving money on the table by not.

The tone just always gets to me.

It's an internet thing that Mind Link would call me naive to not have gotten used to yet.

You do raise a good point. KRZ is just the other concurrent episodic/act game I could think of last night. Probably not the best example given it's an Indie game developed by a small group of people compared to Telltale. I'll definitely be buying A Wolf Among Us at some point, I just wish the wait wasn't so long.

I agree with this. I find that Bundlestars tend to pack more games in than an Indie Royale and are cheaper so it's easier to justify a purchase, but they are always a bit of a mixed bag. So the problem usually is that I have to hit a certain threshold of somewhere around 3-4 of the 8-9 games being ones I really want before I'll actually pony up the dough. Otherwise, I just look around on the trading thread and see if anybody has leftovers.

fuck SQUEENIX THEY CHARGE ME FOR GAMES!!!!!

re: Episodic games

I still haven't finished The Walking Dead and it's been partially spoiled for me due to the second season advertising. I do wish the episodes were released closer to each other so I might wait for Season 2 to be complete before I buy and try to finish in one sitting. I bought KRZ and still haven't played. I really do hope they actually finish it, but I'm beginning to have my doubts.

Time to see if Marvel's Quest of Puzzles is as addictingly amazing as errybody claims

Edit: Gamefly's winter sale continues...day 2 doesn't have a whole lot of gud stufz, but the new DMC is 75% off (12.50). Not sure if gamefly has coupon out right now.

Also, I linked to the only thing besides DMC that I think most people here would want: http://digital.gamefly.com/#!/download-cristiano-ronaldo-freestyle/5004526

Wasn't that being sold for a really high price last year by a retailer -on purpose-, as their little joke during the holidays? I forget. I'd love to get that game for Steam since it looks absurd.

No no, you have a point. I just go on that ranting mode all the time and it's not my intention to annoy anyone with it. I try to play it as obviously jokey, but it looks like I'm not very good at it. Sorry again.

I have a question for the illuminated folks of this thread:

- which of the Mass Effect 3 DLC is worth buying? I'm playing on Xbox 360 so will need to buy from the in-game menu (I assume).

Super Bonus Question worth a whole three Ace Points:

- does the DLC ever - and I mean EVER - go on sale? It's bloody expensive and I'm debating skipping it altogether.

DLC on sale, not that I've ever seen. Bioware points were one sale once if I recall. Edit: Missed the 360 part there. Yes, the DLC does go on sale, but not necessarily all at the same time.

Get Citadel if you have a love for the series as a whole. Get Leviathan if you want some more back story. Get Omega because you like Aria and have some spare cash lying around. Get From Ashes if you like pompous assholes and you want additional perspective into past events inside the ME universe.

I'm a ME super-fan, so I bought it all.

I haven't gotten around to ME3 yet, but I can tell you that most of the game's DLC does go on sale every now & then.

1) Leviathan is a must have, I've heard, and From Ashes adds a lot (you have it if you got the deluxe). Citadel is a fun kind of side thing but if you like the series it's pretty amazing.

2) On 360 yes (Probably around Christmas you'll see some discounts). On PC no.

Bear in mind I've played none of the ME3 DLC.

I'm just regurgitating things I hear.

Wait til after the holidays are over to buy the DLC. One of the pieces *may* go on sale.

I also have it on 360, and waited sooooooooooo long for it to go on sale - literally around 10 months. Eventually I got From Ashes, Leviathan, and Omega over that span of time, and bought Citadel full price.

If you love mass effect they're probably all worth getting, although From Ashes is not very good value, in terms of playtime. Omega I found the least interesting. Citadel was really good (obligatory "fan service" mention, blah blah blah), but I think Leviathan is the most essential. It actually explains where the Reapers came from, etc.

IMHO: Citadel and Leviathan are both worth full price. Leviathan is a must buy. Citadel is either a must buy or close to it. If you're playing ME3, you want both of these, regardless of whether they're on sale.

Personally, I'd really look for a sale on From Ashes and Omega. Unless you're a hardcore ME fan and don't mind paying full price for it all, just wait til you can get a sale and save the DLC for a future playthrough.

Thanks for the ME3 help guys :)

I paid £6 for the game second hand, yet the cheapest DLC (From Ashes, Omega) are £6.75 apiece and the "good" ones (Leviathan, Citadel) are £9.99 each. That's steep, even by my rather lax standards.

When's the next Christmas sale?

:whee:

See if you can find someone with a BTA HIB7 in the trade forums. That included DD+all DLC (well minus one currently).

I've come here to test this Logitech k800 keyboard, any of you tried this thing? I don't know if it's good for games, but dat backlight.
I've been using a K800 since it came out with no complaints. I keep the backlight low, however, so I can't say how long the battery lasts with it turned up, but I charge mine about once every 3-4 weeks. I use a G13/Tartarus for gaming though, so no comment on that aspect.

I've been using a Logitech Wave for over 5 years so I'm having some trouble with this, I think I'll get used to it. The keys are closer together and the palm rest is so tiny. What I like is that the letters aren't painted on, on my old keyboard some of the paint is completely gone. I wanted the wired version of this keyboard but they don't sell it anywhere. Wireless seems to be working fine though and I have eneloop rechargable batteries to put in it, or I can keep it plugged in, not worried about battery life.

Listen, Jerk!...I got a lil overexcited making my list. Like a virgin walking into a room with an Elliot Spitzer call girl. I'm hoping to find somebody selling it for cheap...even if I have to do business with another pimp. Now shut yer pie hole! :D

What are you fools waiting on AC4 for, it was just $30 at Amazon. You can get it that cheap in the trade thread too.
AC4 + Season Pass for $30 would be a better deal - even though I'd certainly like a better deal than *that*.

I know, I need a while first, before that probably happens.

Plus - I need to play my new AC3 (UPlay-version), first!

EDIT:

Maybe by the time AC5 rides around next year, I can get AC4 for $5.xx like I just recently did from GameFly. ;)

With these games w/ yearly iterations + Season Passes out there, getting base-games dirt cheap (except for COD series) seems to happens fairly quickly.

Don't know if I'll be able to hold out that long, if AC4 is *that* great...

Unless you must have the Steam version I'm sure there are cheaper AC4 U-Play versions people are pawning off with their graphics cards.

I love AC so I didn't wait, got Gold for $65 and have no regrets. It sucks that regular edition was $30 so soon but I would have wanted Gold anyway so whatever. I love the game and having all the extra crap.

I was able to get AC3 Gold for like $35 cause Ubisoft wasn't region locking the Russian ones back then, great deal.

If you think 3 sucks don't lose hope, I thought it sucked but 4 is my game of the year.

I love AC, as well - but I got burnt-out after AC2, ACB, then ACR - that was just too much AC w/out much changes in such short time for me.

AC2 and ACB are my fav's, so far - keep in mind, I ain't touched AC3 yet...and obviously AC4 yet.

AC4 looks like it really could be the change I been looking for & wanting in an AC game - i.e. the central focus on pirates & ship-running.

On another note of UbiSoft games - wow @ the improvements in Far Cry 3. This is MUCH better than FC2, in terms of doing all that side-questing stuff. Addictive as sin - w/ all the crafting, skill upgrading, hunting, and all of that stuff. FC2 felt so repetitive w/ cut & paste stuff for actual side-missions lay-outs for areas, enemies, safe-houses, and outposts and stuff. FC3 is much better, in that regard w/ the side-stuff. I ain't even touched much of the main-quest stuff here yet!

EDIT:

I think we all have those games, we're willing to shell out for ASAP, even if it's still expensive (when compared to our usual CAG attitudes of buying games). For me, it seems to often be RPG's - specifically, it's often been those BethSoft RPG's, CD Projekt's RPG's & BioWare RPG's.
