I love AC, as well - but I got burnt-out after AC2, ACB, then ACR - that was just too much AC w/out much changes in such short time for me.

AC2 and ACB are my fav's, so far - keep in mind, I ain't touched AC3 yet...and obviously AC4 yet.

AC4 looks like it really could be the change I been looking for & wanting in an AC game - i.e. the central focus on pirates & ship-running.

On another note of UbiSoft games - wow @ the improvements in Far Cry 3. This is MUCH better than FC2, in terms of doing all that side-questing stuff. Addictive as sin - w/ all the crafting, skill upgrading, hunting, and all of that stuff. FC2 felt so repetitive w/ cut & paste stuff for actual side-missions lay-outs for areas, enemies, and outposts and stuff. FC3 is much better, in that regard w/ the side-stuff. I ain't even touched much of the main-quest stuff here yet!

EDIT:

I think we all have those games, we're willing to shell out for ASAP, even if it's still expensive (when compared to our usual CAG attitudes of buying games). For me, it seems to often be RPG's - specifically, it's often been those BethSoft RPG's, CD Projekt's RPG's & BioWare RPG's.
AC4 adopted some of those elements from Far Cry 3, it's really cool. They have the hunting and crafting. I had a hard time getting into Revelations but I took a break and when I tried it again I realized it's one of the best ACs in terms of gameplay and options and stuff to do. 3 was a real step back from that level of polish and perfection, ugh, but AC4 is a huge leap up from that and throws in the sailing and so many different locations to explore, its truly amazing. 3 is a borefest and just really unpolished and dull, lots of the side quests and things have no reward whatsoever. Really sucks.

I got my hands on a Dualshock 4 today, if they had given that thing Xinput compatibility that would have been really cool cause it felt NIIICE.

I liked ACR: Gold's story, characters & especially the return of Altair. I had a very strong dislike for Desmond's Portal-like puzzles and especially the Defense-tower type of missions.

So, AC4 is adapting some of FC3's elements - I don't know and won't know 'til I play it, if that's a good thing or bad thing that they're taking cues from each other. I'd hate for AC4 and FC3 too wind-up too much alike and similar in many ways. I know, I know - one's a shooter (Far Cry 2 + 3) and one's an action/adventure/stealth (AC series) - but they're both still open-world games at heart w/ missions all over the place on your map to knock-off.

I just skipped the Desmond parts, I got 100% sync without doing any of them. I had done a bit of it on PS3 so I knew that it wasn't great, when I started the game over on PC I didn't touch them. I wasn't crazy about Ezio doing odd jobs for that prince or whoever for the main part of that game but I liked everything else. I just felt it was better when he had his own motivations of revenge in the prior two games. I didn't appreciate the bombs until after I finished the game and was completing all the guild challenges. They were very cool and I couldn't have 100% synched the game without using them on some of the secondary mission objectives.

About FC3, I didn't feel like the games were similar other than just borrowing a few elements, they didn't feel the same. The games are very different so even just hunting animals feels different between the two games, to me. I'm not worried they'll feel too similar but it's something to watch out for.

For anyone who has played the Ys games on multiple platforms what was your preference:  PC with KB/M, PC or PS3 with controller or handheld (PSP/Vita)?  I'm most interested in opinions on Oath.

Cross-posting in the PSN thread.

Anybody watching VGX online right now?

They're showing Thief (Reboot) off - and talking about how players will have modifiers to change more than difficulty (Easy, Normal, Hard, etc). There'll be additional ticks, too. There's an option to getting sighted automatically causes a Mission Fail screen OR you can allow getting sighter to keep the game going. There's another option to turn on an Iron-Man Mode option (die or get caught, your save-game is tossed); and other stuff.

I hope Thief (Reboot) pulls this off.

Looks like PS4 + XB1 are getting a Tomb Raider (Reboot): Definitive Edition (with 1080p support + TressFX + ALL DLC).
I wonder if they plan to do something like that for PC? Maybe like Deus Ex HR's director's cut?

That is, if they add bonus content.

I preferred at 360 controller for Oath and Origins, but KB/M for YS 1+2

I like Telltale but I'll be honest when I say I wasn't really a fan of the Borderlands series. I'm not looking forward to this Borderlands adventure game. I AM looking forward to TWD Season 2 and the rest of The Wolf Among Us.

I'm looking forward to it, I like both Telltale and Borderlands so it seems like it could be an awesome mix.

Granted, I wouldn'tve gotten through Borderlands if it wasn't for the GF wanting to play through it with me, but I do feel that some of the character design is absolutely awesome. Tiny Tina's Brilliant, Jack was awesome, etc. So a Telltale game could be pretty great.

Joel McHale's every word is dripping with pure, snarky hatred.

Kind of loving it.

I just played through Enter the Dominatrix, the first SRIV DLC.

It's good.

It's short. Maybe an hour and a half.

And the gameplay is pretty rote. Wave based shooting mostly.

But, for me the strength of Saints Row is the writing, and I think Enter the Dominatrix is quite clever in premise and work in execution. It feels as funny and as well-written as any major mission chain in the game.

I got the season pass for $3.99, and I'm eagerly awaiting the Xmas DLC, but I think Enter the Dominatrix, if you liked the main missions and like the writing of SRIV, is totally worth picking up on sale. A bit short on content for $7, but definitely a well-made, funny piece of DLC that stands up to the quality of the main game.

Umm...so, Telltale doing a Borderlands adventure game?
Da fuq?

I don't see this going as well as AWAU or TWD

Maybe not even as well as Puzzle Quest

They better ALSO be doing game of thrones. I hope that rumor wasn't just a rumor

Don't get me wrong, for those who love Telltale and Borderlands this is a match made in Heaven. I just personally don't like Borderlands very much. Most of the characters just annoy me, I don't like the story, I find the game too much of a grind, etc.

Now with how much I love Telltale could they make me love the game/series? Sure. I doubt it though. For those who are looking forward to this, I hope you enjoy!

Telltale, when they go for humor (and I think largely succeed) hit the kind of absurd off-the-wall humor that Borderlands aims for and usually misses (and adds in some tired memes for good measure). So I can see them making a good adventure in the Borderlands spirit without making it abrasive. They would know how to take the parts of that world that work for humor and not make them abrasive the way Borderlands tends to do (for me at least).

I think it's an interesting selection because while some of the characters are funny, it's kind of an odd choice given that it's a universe that doesn't really have all that interesting lore, and two games with pretty minimal plots.

Edit: wow, looking at the RPG of the year nominees on the VGX site makes me realize what a weak year it was for them. Were there any other good ones? Nothing comes to mind.

Exactly this. I actually expected a Borderlands 3 over a TT borderlands game, especially with how much they already have on their plates. Makes me wonder if they are going to grab at other popular IP's.

Game of Thrones?

The Last of Us?

Half-Life 3?

Oh my God. Half-Life 3 confirmed.

I liked Borderlands 1/2 but feel like I'm the only person who got bored with TWD within the first hour.
I played through all of them, they were alright but I thought way overrated. If they weren't so hyped I doubt I would've finished them.

A wolf among us, though, is pretty rad so far. It seems like a substantial improvement, potentially, IMHO.

Mars: War Logs was alright. A little janky but overall really interesting. Penny Arcade: Episode 4 was pretty excellent for the style it was going for.

Can't think of much else off the top of my head.

I challenge you to find a person whose core reason for liking that film was because George Clooney is the voice actor for Mr. Fox.

As a quirky, stop-motion Wes Anderson comedy, was that the selling point for anyone seeing it?
A picture speaks a thousand words.

I'm going through Steam sale withdrawal. Winter Sale needs to get here STAT. Nevermind I just bought close to a dozen new games since Black Friday. I...need...MOOOOOAAAARRRRR. I even have a list of things I'm looking for written down next to my laptop:

Assassins Creed IV
Spelunky
Dungeon Defenders
Baldurs Gate 1 and 2
Farcry 3
Guild Wars 2
Lego LOTR

I'll be happy to see two of those show up with some nice discounts. Somebody make this happen, hookers!
The following games have gone for 75% discount in the previous steam sale so they will probably repeat in the upcoming winter sale. As for Guild Wars 2, just check out Amazon during the xmas sale period, the standard edition was going for $29.99 on black friday.

Spelunky $3.74
Dungeon Defenders Collection $12.49 (There is a chance it may go for 85% during a flash sale)
Baldurs Gate 1 $4.99

Farcry 3 $7.49
Lego LOTR $7.49

I've come here to test this Logitech k800 keyboard, any of you tried this thing? I don't know if it's good for games, but dat backlight.
I am using Logitech k400r (the non-backlight version of wireless keyboard) for my smart TV, it has a touchpad on the keyboard as well and the battery life is excellent. For wireless keyboard, battery life is one important factor that you should consider. If you are a heavy user, a wireless keyboard with backlight will drain the battery rather fast. Then again, the k800 comes with a cable that you can plug and charge the battery while using it as a keyboard so that is a plus point.

Umm...so, Telltale doing a Borderlands adventure game?
I was watching the VGX video earlier about Gearbox and Telltale collaboration, yes it is coming.

So, Eiljah Wood + Jack Black are doing some voice-acting in Broken Age (TIm Schafer's Kickstarter-funded game).

EDIT:

LOL, this game got talking spoons... :D

The Tiny Tina DLC in the spirit of Dungeons and Dragons was a hoot. Loved every moment of it.

Aye, that was great, definitely deserves to be in the DLC nominations.

That said, wtf is Blood dragon doing there? Isn't that a standalone? Heck, you could put Enemy Within in there if Blood Dragon is in there.

And yet again that said, I think Mass Effect Citadel DLC is the best of them. An *awesome* piece of Homage to the characters of the game, absolutely brilliantly done. And the humor ... :D

I mean look at this:

Every time someone talks about Blood Dragon being DLC it makes me want to slap them across the face.

And Mass Effect Citadel was above and beyond fantastic DLC!

Personally I think the nomination of Fire Emblem is great, as it was first game to come to my mind when you mentioned RPG of the year (without having glanced at VGX's nominees). I also agree with Eldredpe that Penny Arcade 4 was great. Then again, I think RPG's in general have become too bloated for my liking, and yet a 60+ hour adventure seems to be the expectation more often than not.

For those that bought any bundles from Bundle In A Box, time to download and backup all your games. Looks like the site is shutting down and the current ongoing bundle is the last one from them. (source)

Yeah, I like a good mix of length for RPGs. RPG is my favorite genre, and if a game is great and the world is fun to be in, I definitely don't mind 60+ hour adventures. At the same time, RPGs that are like, 25-40 hours (Mass Effect and such) are nice too, because I don't want to be dropping 60 hours or more on every game I play.

Edit: Your mention of fire emblem reminds me i want a 3ds

keep reporting da big news cuz im not watching
Techland showed off some Dying Light.

Hello Games (an Indie team of 4) showed off No Man's Sky - not sure what it is.

Looks like a MMO; FPS; space-sim shooter/action game - not sure if that's accurate.

dying light seems interesting
It looks like Dead Island got majorly overhauled w/ parkour elements; more AI on zombies; and day/night cycles.

Also, when you break a body part - it goes slow-motion (like Dead Island and it shows in an X-Ray kind of thing and what part you broke.

From VGX:

Bioshock Infinite won Best Shooter.

Letuce Twins from BS:I won Best Character(s).
