Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I got bored of Two Worlds 2 after about five or six hours. It just seemed extremely generic. Even more so than Oblivion. The world was sufficiently large enough but mostly uninteresting. There are better arpgs out there.
The vibe i get from it is that it's basically cheaply made oblivion

What do you guys think of Two Worlds and Two Worlds 2? I can get both on steam for 8 bucks but ignore the small amount of cash: are they genuinely fun games?
Okay, which regular created a troll account?

So this idea has been brought a number of times, and it's gotten some interest, and it was just brought up again in one of Tebow's chatz: Would anybody like to participate in a holiday gift exchange? If so, send me a PM, and I'll use a random number generator to assign who buys a gift for who, and PM everybody with who they have to buy a gift for. I guess the way it would work is something like we exchange gifts the day after the Steam holiday sale ends. Five dollar spending limit, I guess I'd recommend updating your wishlists in order of what game you want so who ever has to get you sum sweet thang knows what you want most. Soooo lemme know if this is something dat interests u.
I'm totally in! Are we doing DLC or not? I suggest not, but I guess if we rank our wishlists it won't matter.

I mean, if somebody wants DLC then they can put that at the top of their list. If you don't want dlc, as long as your top, like, 15 or so aren't dlc there should be something in that range that gets 5 bucks or lower

That is literally one of the worst games I have ever played -- arpg or otherwise. :oldman: To the bro considering Two Worlds 2 I would just buy the Gothic Universe pack (1+2+3) for $5 (assuming you don't already own them).

Well I have TW2 backlogged but most of the opinions I've read (the last few pages of this thread notwithstanding) were that it was actually quite good and a vast improvement over the original.

As for TW1, well, again I'll be the outlier and say that I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best RPG ever but it did have an interesting if somewhat hard-to-follow story, the combat was fun and the crafting system was novel, to say the least. There were a couple of bugs that you had to work around, including one that caused it to crash every five minutes, but once you got past that it was perfectly enjoyable for what it was.

You should, like, make a Steam group for it.

Done it before a couple of times, and it's been fun. Who doesn't like getting presents?

I'd be in, assuming there is enough interest. I like the idea of a Steam group, I think that would make it easier to organize and keep out the lurkers.

I'm gonna assume he's not that stupid, and checked his spam folder. I didn't realize it defaults to that message if you won a key. If he didn't get an email I guess the only choice he has is to use a different facebook account and try to win again. In that case, I would use a different email provider though.
Yep - I checked my Spam box and Recently Deleted Box. And I have checked numerous different e-mail accounts, just in case it got thrown somewhere else. Still, nothing.

Lords know where it is, where it got sent, or if it even got sent.

Two Worlds 1 was certainly worth the ONE penny I bought it for like not too long after its release at Best Buy (since they junked it out at that b/c of high return rate and more problems than you can shake a stick at), hehe. It's basically an open-world action-RPG like say Oblivion - though, nowhere even remotely close. 2W1 had some pretty bad writing, voice-acting & dialogue, for sure - not a "mayhaps". ;) It also had tons of bugs and broken quests upon release, as well. Patching fixed some of that stuff, over time. While the game could look technically really good (for its time, when it came out) - the major was problem was the game ran really piss-poor on most PC's when it came out - I'd guess it would probably fair much better on modern-day PC's. Also - the game's known for its terrible online activation DRM w/ no revokes - and you'd have to bother the people from either support or their forums to replenish the activation count, if they so agreed to it. While combat was fine, it still could've been better w/ some strafing instead of turning allowed. Questing often had some decision-making involved. I don't know what it was about 2W1 - but even despite its ridiculous list of problems, I still thought it was "okay." Just - you know, don't expect it to be good or spectacular.

Two Worlds 2 (base game) took most of my complaints - and basically threw them out the window. Writing, voice-acting, and dialogue certainly improved immensely over the original game - certainly nothing really spectacular here, but what 2W2 had here was certainly tons better than the original. Combat was certainly much better. Graphics when they came out - again, they were excellent and supported DX10 this time - though the engine was overhauled immensely and ran extremely well. And their crafting system and magic-crafting system is addictive as sin. Again, this game used their crappy homebrew DRM system - ick. Combat felt much better this time around - as holding the right-mouse could keep you focused so you can strafe. Questing seemed a bit more linear here - as there often weren't choices on how to finish quests. But, still - 2W2 is still nowhere on Oblivion's level; nevermind even Skyrim.

Worth $8 for the two of them - yeah, absolutely. Namely, for 2W2 here - that's what you should be looking at, TBH. Just, expect 2W1 to be "okay", while 2W2 to be "good." (I'm more lenient than most on games - so, also keep that in mind). Do NOT expect these 2W games to be anywhere as good as anything PB's done - such as as Gothic 2 & both Risen 1 + 2. And those aren't really the upper echelon of RPG's, if you ask me. So, don't even expect these Two Worlds games to even belong in the conversations w/ Gothic 1 (personally, I still think that's PB's best game) and anything great that Black Isle, Obsidian, BioWare, Troika, or Bethesda's done, either.

I think 2W1 ranges on "OMG, the voice-acting, writing, dialogue" is often on the "so bad it's good" tip. If people want to see how much 2W2 improved over the original, I guess that's one reason to play 2W1 - hehe.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Seeing as my rpg backlog is already pretty big I think I'll just fall on that. Glad I'm not an impulse buyer.

Can anyone comment on whether it's better to play Gothic 3 on Steam fully patched, or to use the GOG version with Community Patch 1.73???
Make sure you use the latest Community Patch on Gothic 3, if you really do want to play this game.

I have G3 from Retail, so not sure how to implement G3 and its Com Patches w/ Steam-version. You'll definitely want to read-up on there somewhere online.

Seriously - G3 is a bloody disaster technically, with or without any of the Com Patches. It's just much less of a technical disaster w/ the Community Patch. ;)

Back when G3 came out, this game had more technical problems than you can shake a stick at - CTD's; performance issues (games just ran poorly, no matter what on many PC's); graphical clipping issues; stuttering issues (especially when it was drawing terrain); broken quests; ridiculously long load times; hit detection was way off (if you hit enemies a certain way, you could do no damage; or you could slaughter enemies and bug them into not being able to hit you if you mash); etc etc.

I always wanted to love G3 - but my God, that game is too huge in scope and too big for its own good. It just crumbles under the weight of its own technical monstrosity.

I'd like to nominate Bully if we are talking Rockstar games. It's still easily my favorite out of their games that I've played and not nearly as serious as most of there stuff either. I mean, how many games do you have to escort a fat kid to the bathroom so he doesn't pee himself?

And yes, I realize I'm incredibly immature. Time to egg the principal
I misread this as Buffy, typed a big reply then send it to digital oblivion in embarasment.

Anyhow, GTA IV has 200 pigeons... Each of which has to be shot, blew up, or set on fire... Each action will likely get the cops all over your ass. Its so tedious/frustrating...
The 200 pigeons achieve made me give up, with a f-dis. Too repetitive and dull, like finding all the feathers in AC2. BL1's 4th DLC should also be brought in any how-no-to-do-achieves discussion... collect a lot of very very low droprate stuff.

Where's RS at? He popped in for a few posts during the sale then bounced again. I appreciate his opinions even if I don't always agree. He's the anti MysterD. We need that balance back.
Well, there's one other way to restore the balance... <sinister glance in MysterD's direction>

Haven't played either, but from what I've heard, Two Worlds is terrible while Two Worlds 2 is a solid, passable, if unspectacular, RPG. However, it has been bundled a number of times. So has Two Worlds 1. You can probably get it cheaper in the trading forums.

fuck getting presents, it's more fun to gift the shittiest thing you can find.
I'm in, sent passports a pm.

That CAG Steam gift exchange thing sounds like fun. Count me in.

It's also good timing so I can clean out my wish list. That list gets pretty disorganized at times. And why doesn't Steam automatically remove/delete wish list games after you buy/activate them? It seems like it'd be an easy fix. It's just another reason why Enhanced Steam is so so good.

Oh its a small world, I have a Deadfalls Adventure card listed and i was being undercut 3 cents by the legendary JaseC from neogaf  I also saw Provis on there too :)
So this is where my bad karma came from. :p I've had two foils sitting idle for about a week now. :( No undercuts; just no interest.

I'm rather tempted by this but I just cannot pull the trigger... A) I own the first two on disc so its not like I don't have access to them and my biggest fear is that they do a "huge" Fallout bundle this holiday sale that includes all the games and I would be all over that as I don't own Vegas or Fallout 3 on the PC... But with the different publishers involved I'm not sure if a bundle would even be likely.

(I've never owned Vegas; and Fallout 3 on the 360)

It was also much cheaper back in July...

I think the original Two Worlds was an abortion of a game. Two Worlds 2 is actually so bad it's good. Just disable the motion blur and it's a blast to play through. The voices are horrible, the controls are horrible, every thing is horrible . . . but you can't stop playing.

The above link starts at 45 seconds in. Watch until 3:19 for laughs.
Thanks for posting this, now I want to immediately install it.

Interplay is losing the publishing license for the original three PC games when the year ends so they're trying to milk the game as much as possible. They raised the price at GOG too. The publishing rights will go to Bethesda.

I expect this to go on sale -everywhere- soon enough.

I'm glad I asked. :)

Last question... Aren't all Bethesda games region locked...?

(If so I wonder if it might be cheaper to do it all separately as I'm sure Bethesda's sale on the whole series won't be THAT cheap.)

Sorry, I know next to nothing about the steam database website... (Other than it locks my browser up whenever it goes to load a page.)

Also when I just looked I saw that Fallout 3 GotY got added to a package 4 hours ago...

It's really annoying...it seems like they delete them if you buy through steam client, but if you activate, nooope. I'm sure it doesn't bother most people a whole lot but for compulsive game buyers like us it's aggravating as all hell

I turned my PC on for the first time in 2 weeks last night and a Sleeping Dogs booster was waiting. Made a cold hard 30 cents off it, will pay for one of my Tomb Raider skins.

I was thinking, they better not release that Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider on PC as a separate game after I already invested in the original plus the DLC. I'd imagine they would have to include that DLC in the console version but maybe the PC version will just be a free patch. We have most of those special effects already but I want the remodeled Lara head they were talking about, unless somehow that is already in the PC version and we already have everything that they're bringing to consoles..

Jerks!
