Hm.. I've owned a G700 for 2-3 years and it hasn't died on me. I did a lot of research on it and never saw anything about that.. but I guess the G700s could be different.

The G is an update of the 700 that hopefully removes the problem... but basically the left click can get weak over time. It doesn't happen to all of them but enough of them for Logitech to note the problem with a extended warranty. (Even the 700s have 3 year warranties instead of one years now.)

If not the MX518, the G500 seems like a pretty worthy substitute (it's one of the few other mice I have felt that are like the MX518.)

I finally checked out a 3DS XL... wow the 3D sweet spot on that screen is much improved. I don't have any interest in owning one, but I'm interested in what's possible at normal-consumer-prices.

MX518 Is the best mouse I have ever used, I still look on eBay from time to time for new ones because they were discontinued like 6 years ago and I fear that it will die at some point ><. If not the MX518, the G500 seems like a pretty worthy substitute (it's one of the few other mice I have felt that are like the MX518.)

Anyone know if the G700 is better than the G500?

It's really hard to say when one gaming mouse is "better" than another (it will quickly descend into the optical-vs-laser war among other things). And hand-feel & weight can easily offset technical differences.

There is a very direct lineage of MX510->MX518->G400->G400s. If you want a new replacement for your MX518, the G400s should fit the bill perfectly. The all have the same shell, with sensor refinements along the way. (If picking up a used G400, be aware that early manufacture ones had angle-snapping.)

If you're not looking at overclocking the CPU cooler is sort of a waste of money... AMD/Intel stock coolers (which come with the processor) are good enough to get it done.
