This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I'm usually borrowing from orcz or dgshiftcodes. It's mostly about putting them in front of people who care about them. (I dislike having to check elsewhere, imo, there should be a steam-notification for that sort of thing.)

We'll see. There is room for improvements from a better or lower-level api (It's how consoles do it. <waits to see if it gets broad support before caring too much>

I've never used DirectX, but OpenGL, while pretty neat, could use a more modern foundation.
I tried to do some programming OpenGL in college; yeah, I'm certainly no computer programmer or animation expert, hehe.

Never tried programming in DX.

I'm with you on that.

I'm not a fan of G4WL - it causes more headaches and stupidities than you and I can even dream-up. I've had more problems w/ G4WL than any other freaking client. Not even Origin or UPlay were ever as problematic for me as G4WL.

G4WL is a disaster.
yup i never had problwem till fuel bfore i coulddnt play bbut firends can join now i cant even go onlline to play it hurts me more cause i aint going to restart on games lol

Okay, the middle click on my mouse is failing. Any suggestions on a new mouse? I'm not looking for anything incredibly showy or gaudy. Looking to spend $50.
I'll throw another vote in for the G500. It's in that price range and a fantastic mouse with just enough bells and whistles to be versatile without being obnoxious.

It is frustrating that Tomb Raider has RPG elements to it. I don't want to have to decide what skills Lara needs to develop. I wanted pretty graphics, puzzles, boobs, and it to be on rails. Anything over that is too much.
As was mentioned already, you shouldn't really have any trouble getting all the skills you care about (or all the skills period, for that matter). The skill point allocations aren't really very difficult or meaningful decisions because the later stuff is gated off until you've basically sunk all the points you could have cared too anyway on earlier stuff.

Got my Steam machine. First boot, controller was all screwed up.. It was too sensitive and responding even when I wasn't doing anything. It corrected itself after I unplugged/replugged the controller back in. Next few boots, I couldn't connect via wi-fi. After 3 reboots I could finally connect, but download speeds are all over the place. Might switch to ethernet cable if I can't get it stable.

My specs are 780 GTX/i5. I'm pretty sure that's what most people have been getting. The titans probably go to the selected "contributors".

Sonic Racing stress test!

About 2 weeks ago I built my first self-assembled PC. As such, I'm still ironing out a few issues here and there (mostly with drivers and such) but for the most part I'm stable. I downloaded Speccy just now and I noticed that my RAM timings were off. They are rated at 9-9-9-24 but were running at 11-11-11-28. I went into the BIOS and noticed XMP was disabled, so I enabled it and it seemed to set everything correctly. My (noob) question is: Speccy is showing my RAM as 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR-3 @ 800MHz (9-9-9-24). It's the 800 MHz that I'm wondering about, since in the BIOS they are set for 1600 MHz. Is this normal or do I still need to tweak something in the BIOS? I'm learning by doing, and there's still a lot I don't know about BIOS settings and fine-tuning. I'll be getting a NH-D14 next week and I'll be attempting my first overclock. Got a Haswell i7 4770k so probably won't be able to get too much out of it b/c of heat, but I'd like to squeeze out w/e performance I can.

Sorry for off-topic, but since Speccy was mentioned here I figured maybe someone would know.

Download Piriform's Speccy. It'll tell you exactly what you have.

<asheskitty's CPU is also five years old, but is still coping, asheskitty is waiting for Broadwell or Skylake, or hopefully a decent AMD offering>
<Mooby's computer also blew up.>

Anyway, the Amazon chat person (named Zen!) said he couldn't help me but referred it to promotions who I should hear from in a few days. Funny thing is since it's unopened I have until January 31st to return it free of charge… of course I'd be subject to the current price (I got it at $210) but it seems rather silly they'd make me go through all of that.

Evil Betty this is correct. DDR stands for Double Data Rate meaning your 800mhz x 2 = 1600mhz.

Thanks for the response/help. I've learned a lot the past few weeks but feel like I'm still just scratching the surface of what there is to know.

To be completely honest it's impossible to know everything there is to about computers. There are just too many areas to cover and the technology changes too fast. You can find a lot of useful stuff on the internet. Keep at it, sounds like you've found something you like to do.

Reassure me that MSI mother boards are okay before I change my mind again.

I had stuff to reply to, but lost it all because 3.0 likes to screw with me. So bullet points:

  • Ima have to kill Warren
  • New Humble is so so for me
  • SteamBox doesn't sound so hot
  • Flow needs to eat some more
  • Telling MysterD he's disregarding the social aspects is a lost cause
  • Pasport is going to get temp-banned for breaking the thread (no joke, mods be modding)
  • Lost Planet sucks
That's all, carry on.

I don't mean to be contrary, but pixel hunting is precisely what you're required to do.

Granted, there are some objects that are more obvious, but there are plenty of things like bookshelves and clocks on walls that don't stand out in any way. Once you hit the right range of pixels you're given a magnifying glass to indicate that it is an object of interest. Until then, you're on your own.

Let me just say that I'm a fan of hidden object games, so I have a fair amount of patience. I believe that the dialogue grinding and clunky controls, combined with the pixel hunt, was just not something that sat well with me for whatever reason.
I don't think anyone can really defend the "gameplay" of To The Moon. It's certainly not a traditional RPG, but considering the time investment is so miniscule compared to an RPG, I absolutely recommend it to whomever I can. It's only ~3 hours long, but the story was a homerun for me. It's the only game I ever actually took time to "review" on steam with the caption:
"This game made me realize I'm not dead inside."
Agreed. The gamey parts of TTM were kinda crap because it didn't control very well and it could be tricky trying to figure out what objects the game wanted you to pick up and sometimes even where they were. Having said that, it was also a terrific experience.

Pretty much Limbo in a nutshell

I'VE HAD IT WITH YOUR NEGATIVE VIBES, BUB

I need to append my earlier, more critical opinion of SR IV to say that as you get deeper in, there's some great missions with a lot of humor.  I still dislike a lot of stuff they added which detracts from the core reason to play the game (platforming, hacking, etc) and some design decisions are getting old real fast (eternal night, flickering simulation images) but if you liked SRTT I'd say it's definitely worth getting -- on sale, once Amazon puts it on Editor's Choice, with the coupon and maybe with the SRTT $5 coupon ;)

Seems weird to develop a manufacturing/distribution process just to create and send 300 units, but what do I know.

I'm not that excited about the winter sale.  There isn't much I want in the end and I miss the fun games of yore.  Snow globes aren't really doing it for me.
