This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Man, I need a big Steam sale like I need my next breath.  I'm just begging to throw money at stupid things.  Hopefully the Winter Sale starts tomorrow.

I'll sell you a bundle of Cogs, Magicka, Fowl Play, and Bad Rats for $10.

What the hell, I'll throw in a copy of Crayon Physics Deluxe as well.

PM me!

When the Win 8.1 update hit I did a fresh system install because I'd been living for a few months with some database stuff that ran as a service and would just not uninstall. Not a virus, just something uninstalled in the wrong order that was stubborn. After this new install, when I went to play Steam games that were still on the drive the client kept redownloading them. Eventually, maybe after a day or two, it finally figured out that those games did exist. I don't know if it was due to a reboot or what, but they started working. My recommendation is to wait a couple of days and see if the problem persists.

edit: Actually I was thinking about it some more and it may have been reclaiming the permissions for the Steam folder. Try that. You may want to google specific instructions. It's not something I do often enough to feel like I can adequately detail it well.
Thanks for the advice. I actually partially solved the problem. Steam seems to be recognizing some of the games now, but not all of them. I've also noticed that if I move a game to another location (like an external hard drive) and create a junction to make it seem like the game is still in the SteamApps folder (essentially, what SteamMover does), it'll launch and play just fine, but if I try to validate the integrity of the game cache, the files won't validate correctly and Steam will try to re-download the entire game. Weird.

I appreciate this community so much. It helps to know I'm not the only one addicted to buying cheap games I don't have time for.

That being said, I'm proud of myself for not pulling the trigger on Far Cry and Last Remnant yesterday.

I might still get Gothic 2 Gold and The Pit Gold Edition though :)

I bought Gone Home for $5 last sale and I wish I waited for it to be in a bundle. While I didn't dislike the game I think the story was really hyped up and was anti-climatic.

Gone Home looks pretty interesting, you really think they'll put it in a bundle? It's getting all these game of the year nominations.
its not interesting at all, it only takes like 2 hrs to finish and all u do i walk around and look at notes and that is it. oh and u discover that ur sister is
lesbian
and that is it hehe.

I actually quite enjoyed Gone Home, but it definitely isn't for everyone.  It's more of a game than something like Dear Esther (which I was hyped about then incredibly disappointed), but rather you have a fully realized house with hundreds of interactive 3D models that you can rotate in your hand (no, not that kind of model).  I think this game will hit "home" more with people who grew up in the 90's, as there's a bunch of 90's nostalgia flair in the house; in fact, I'd say it'd be hard to appreciate the scope and detail of the house without having grown up in its imagined time period.

Yes. It also kinda strikes me as flash in the pan material, they'd better strike while the iron's hot. Then again, I suppose there is social value to playing it now if discussing it with others is your thing.

Damnit, Phil Fish. Why'd you have to give your game stupid KB/M bindings? There aren't any community steam controller bindings up yet, so I was trying to rebind it myself. What kind of moron makes the movement keys Up, Down, Left, Right? This ain't the 90's. Too annoying trying to figure out what I need to bind everything to, and Phil Fish didn't list what the bindings are in any settings menu (yet it shows the gamepad bindings which show up as button #1, #2, #3, etc.). I think there might be a config file where you can see them all, but ain't no one got time for dat.

Couldn't decide on whether to buy Gone home for $4.99, or wait until it hits $0.99. So I did the reasonable thing and watched the game on Youtube.

It was good, but it felt a bit unsatisfying, and perhaps bathetic.

Actually that movement layout didn't make sense until the 90's when most keyboards adopted the inverted-T layout for the arrow keys. A common layout prior had the arrow keys all in a row.

My favorite compact mechanical keyboard:

Fun fact: The CapsLock key would mechanically stay down when toggled -- common in the era. Also note the positions of the CapsLock & Control keys. This is the way they should be. And still is in JIS (Japanese) keyboards.

Well, if you boil a game down to its fundamental constituents then of course it will sound uninteresting

Metal Gear Solid 4 - You play as an old man who slathers around in a skin-tight suit, choking people.

Bayonetta -

Uncharted 2 - Indiana Jones Nathan Drake uses guns to kill some brown people, and there's some women in there.

Keys shouldn't be hard-binded in the first place.

They always should be re-configurable on the PC to whatever the PC gamer wants/likes.

I been using UDLR since 90's for movement.

I'm left-handed - and I do NOT like WSAD too much.

EDIT:

Annoyed the hell out of me that Dead Space 1 binded movement to WSAD.

Uh, doesn't Fez have a separate configuration program?

Do you even know my taste in games? I have good taste, I just hate JRPGs and racing sims.
I think I've read enough of your game-related rants over the last year to have a good idea of what games you'll like and which games will infuriate you.

You didn't need to take me saying that you'd fucking hate Gone Home as a knock against your taste in games. Taste is subjective, and I wasn't passing a value judgment. I just think based on the games you've hated in the past that you likely won't care for gone home, and if you pay $5 for it you'll probably fucking hate it, because you'll feel more invested as a consumer at what is a relatively high price to playtime ratio.

With all the talks about Gone Home and Stanley Parable, has anyone played Dream yet?

LOL Super FamiCom at 1:00.
Considering the guy's British accent, I think that's actually supposed to be an European SNES. (They looked exactly the same as the Japanese one.)

Also, I'm surprised nobody got the other reference. Howard Philips? Maybe it's just a coincidence, heh.
