Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Speaking of Kickstarter, if you backed Broken Age you can claim your key page at Humble right now. Sign-in with the email you gave Kickstarter and go to your account page and then click the plus icon in the upper right of the box that says "Claim Past Purchases."

There's nothing there yet, but a Steam key should be available tomorrow for the beta. The game should be feature complete so you're not missing any story or puzzles. I think the beta is more about ironing out last minute bugs and testing across lots of different configurations.
Thanks for the info. Between this and getting my Steam Key for The Banner Saga yesterday, the two games I backed on Kickstarter are finally happening. Looking forward to playing them both.

Got a Resident Evil 6 booster pack yesterday and just sold for $1 (88 cents profit).

JASF has terrible reviews... but for $2 I'm tempted.

Edit: Bought.  I was eyeing this on Amazon but it's not steam there.

I enjoyed PQ1 and PQ2 so was looking for a deal on Galactrix.  First time it's been a great price.  That said it seems people have problems with it in Win7… so I'm guessing it probably doesn't work at all in 8.1!

Weekly sales are pretty much suspect...  Minus Pool Nation.

The dailys.  Anyone who doesn't own them...  Well, that should change today.

Though for the record Galactrix is sort of the bastard child that no one likes...  I've never played it.  Its never seen a price drop on most platforms.

Sweet, I enjoyed Puzzle Quest a ton on the DS, even though it did end up kinda buggy and strange at times. I'll gladly pick it up again on PC for a buck, and I can try out Galactrix for that price too.

PQ1 has been cheap before.  Maybe not $1 but something like $2… was during one of the major sales a couple years ago.  Actually think it was a flash or daily.

Wow, I remember PQ1 and Galactrix being some of the staunchest Steam sale holdouts. At that price I'll totally grab both.
Do I smell a Humble Weekly...??? For the record, I only played and beat PQ1, but I'm actually finding Marvel PQ to be more enjoyable despite all the FTP aspects. I guess it's because whereas PQ1 was just insidiously addictive (which I actually don't appreciate), I enjoy trying to find ways around all the pay walls in Marvel (which I think is quite doable). Also I actually care about the characters somewhat, as opposed to the completely generic fantasy setting in the first game that I can't really remember a single thing about anymore. The "dialogue" in Marvel pretty much just amounts to quips, but it's much better than it had to be. I'll take amusing over annoying any day.

If I had any meme creation skills there would be a picture of Neo here with the caption: "WHOA. MOOBY ENJOYED A GAME."

I'm still bummed RockBand never made it to PC, that is easily one of the best coop games of all time. I'd say I've likely spent more time playing it than any other game or series ever. So many good memories, a shame it pretty much dropped off the face of the earth a few years ago.
Ouch! Agreed about the awesome coop fun, but regular DLC just ended last April (sad day indeed). There are still some of us that play it, but I haven't done a random online in forever, especially on PS3, community just got dodgy. It's still great for friends and couch coop. We just did ES III for Thanksgiving, good times!

I like the idea of Gamespot's current week long feature on Steam Early Access games.

They play them for us and tell us which ones to keep an eye out for haha

Unfortunately this is now after the Winter Sale and they got me hooked on wanting Nuclear Throne which is full price...

Damn them.

I was also thinking this is a sign of a bundle.

So, is Galactrix BAD, or just not as good as Warlords?

Okay, I need some information on Steam...can you only play steam games on a computer? What kind of operating system do you need for these games, any other info would greatly be appreciated, Thanks..

Oh and a reminder on the first Puzzle Quest since that's on sale too, if you can manage to obtain the files for the DLC and drop them into the directory it should run on the Steam version.

The DLC was never actually released for PC but if you can find the 360 files they do work.

Anyone know of a way to see what Steam games I own are available on linux and support big picture?

edit: Kinda figured it out. Using Chrome+ES, goto Store, advanced search, game only, OS=linux, full controller support. End up with 58 games, so only three pages to look through, and ES highlights what I own. 18 of 58 so far. Hardly seems worth it to go the SteamOS route at this point.

edit2: BrownDerby found it too. Kinda disappointing all these hardware devs showing off all those devices for such a paltry number of games. Adding in partial controller support nets a total of 124 games. But I can imagine the annoyance of a consumer, thinking they are buying a 'console' and then having to have a mouse and keyboard hooked up to it.

That is awesome! Thank you for this information, Motoki. I'm obtaining the files right now.

I played it for a bit on the DS when it first came out. It's just not good. At $0.99, it might be worth trying if you liked PQ1/PQ2. If you didn't, then don't even waste that dollar.

They added too many gameplay changes. I don't think the hexagonal shape itself was a bad change. But mining can be annoying, especially if you get unlucky with the random number generator gods, and end up mining next to nothing. And having bricks "fall" from all directions instead of just the top is probably what really kills it for me. It's no longer intuitive like normal Bejeweled games.

That said, I bought it anyways, and will probably try to finally beat it. This will probably be the fourth time I stop playing it partways through.

I recall it being $2.49 during one of the sales. It's been on my wishlist since, without a sale.

Ahaha, what is this game?! Looks hilariously awesome. I hate it when new indie games are cool and I have to wait a year for them to be bundled. :(
It's a two player fencing game controlled with a joystick and two buttons, attack and jump. Every attack has a defense that can stop it, I believe, so its focus is the mechanics and mind games between players. Each death lets the winner run as far as they can before the other player respawns. You win by advancing x number of screens. The nidhogg is the giant worm out of some mythology.

Sounds awesome. I'll probably pick it up the first time I can get it at $3 from a reseller.

The original PQ's lowest price was $1.24 in one of the winter sales at least three years ago.  I wanted to buy it redundantly but my wife talked me out of it.  Today I bought it redundantly with card money!  (Don't tell my wife.)

I got Galactrix for my birthday back when it first came out, the PC version since handheld versions wouldn't be available until later.  I never finished it, which says a lot because I played PQ1 and PQ2 to 100% completion (all spells researched, etc.).  The main problem was a graphics card incompatibility that they didn't remedy until about 16 months later.

The problem most people have with Galactrix is that there's little planning involved.  With the hex grid, you're going to have cascades occur with no idea of how the board will look for your opponent.  Thinking back to the final battle in PQ1 where you either play to be certain the boss can make no connections on his turns or get ROFLstomped, it would be absolutely impossible in Galactrix.  Too much of the battling comes down to luck rather than strategy.

The game has several other things you can do aside from advancing the story.  There's a good deal of mercantile gaming involved where you can run ore and contraband to places that pay highest while avoiding patrols, but it can get to be boring after a while.

One nice thing is that there was a robust modding community back in the day (which I know only because I was on the boards often looking for the GC incompatibility to be fixed).  One popular mod was to freeze time during cascades for... was it hacking that went on a timer?  You have thirty seconds to complete a set of objectives, but you make a connection and lose 22 of them watching filler tiles drop in, connect, vanish, repopulate, repeat, OH COME ON.  So yeah, someone fixed that, though I just looked at it as part of the challenge for the time I put into it.

I bought it again now.  I'll give it a fresh start some time.  Just not while there are better games on the docket.

I got my 14 year old a Playstation Plus subscription for Christmas. We're looking at the 'free' games and I say he should just 'buy' all of them so they're in his library. He's like "Eh, this one is a racing game and I don't care about those."

"Well, get it anyway in case you change your mind"

"But I'll never play it"

"So what? It's free, just buy it"

"Nah"

"IT'S LIKE TWO BUTTON PRESSES WHY WON'T YOU JUST PRESS THE TWO BUTTONS??"

"Whatever. Calm down, old man..."
Jokes on you. PSN doesn't have a "library". You get a download list which is a bitch to browse. The more you buy, the harder it is to browse.

why not just use the website. It so much more convenient and you can have the game download and install without ever having to touch the console. Plus it has a shopping cart so you can just"buy" everything at once. Also I just ordered some new parts for my pc. Finally getting rid of this APU for an I5-4670k

Website uses the same download list.. its no different. Sure, buying is easier.. but browsing is the same.

on the store you can also go to a game you have already purchased and tell it to download to your ps3/vita. I hate using the store on the console. I just stuck a TB hard drive in my ps3 so I don't have to worry about re-downloading stuff. Hell I even deleted all my ps1 games and re-installed them so they would be in alphabetical order.

Now that I have a 4670k I was wondering is I needed to get an aftermarket cooler. I was looking at the H80i but I didn't know if it was absolutely necessary .
