That was my plan too. But considering how most shooters give me a headache and I think I have yet to play one through to completion on my Steam account I'm fine waiting. Ashes, no motion-sickness with FC?

Sharing my review of The Banner Saga (TBS):

I just finished TBS, the first game I've finished in 2014. Helps that it was short, I'm thinking no more than 6-8 hours of actual, non-experimentation, non-reloading last checkpoint play time. This is one of the games I Kickstarted back when that was a thing (meaning before I figured out that it really wasn't worth it). No regrets through, well worth the KS$.

The game looks and sounds great. The game universe, billed as a Viking fantasy, is competent. There's nothing groundbreaking about the story or characters, but they serve the purpose.

Gameplay is hit/miss. I'm a TBS (turn-based strategy of course) fan, but the oversimplified systems of TBS (The Banner Saga, of course) leave me wanting more options. Even the Gold Box TSR games had more combat choices than this. The initiative and action mechanisms leave a lot to be desired, as units don't have fixed speeds. It's always a he-goes-you-go deal, so if you mop up weak units early you're left with more powerful units acting more often. This leaves you with a counterintuitive strategy of weakening units without killing them. I'm also torn on the health-as-attack-power thing, but that much I can live with. Last glaring thing for me is the lack of any way to influence movement. Short of a couple of minor abilities that address threat, AI units can waltz around your melee units and go right for ranged. Nothing you can do to stop them.

The overland mechanisms are brutal, but if you've played King of Dragon Pass that's nothing new. The game has one currency, caller Renown, which is gained by killing enemies. Renown is used to level characters, buy items and buy supplies that keeps your army alive while travelling overland. You're probably not going to be able to afford any items, unless you're willing to lose people to starvation (events generally cost you supplies as you travel) or you're going to show restraint when levelling your characters (which can backfire if a toon you've invested a lot or resources in gets auto-killed in an event). Still, this is a thing you can get used to compared to the combat.

Word of warning - this is the first part of a planned trilogy, so the ending kind of feels exactly like that. There's a major event/battle, but a lot of loose ends remain to lead into chapter two. If you were ok with the ending of The Fellowship of the Ring (old school) or The Hunger Games (new school), you'll be fine. :)

Overall though I'm satisfied with the game. This is my third KS'd game to deliver (FTL and Shadowrun Returns were my first two) and so far all three are winners in my book. This actually kind of feels like Shadowrun Returns in terms of heft/depth/scope. I recommend TBS to anyone who's into the genre, but maybe wait for a sale...

You know what grinds my gears? When the pizza place fudges up my order. I ordered spicy sausage with pepperoni. They forgot the pepperoni and put on regular sausage. How fuck 'ing hard is it to get a pizza order right?
even worse when they talk to you on the phone like "no we made it as you told us to" like you forgot to say pepporoni and spicy sausage. I've been ordering my burgers and pizza pretty much the same way for a long long time, I don't think it was me who messed up.

Just throwing this out there. I didn't think much of saints row IV going in. I have played the series fairly recently starting from 1 and fell in love with the ridiculously stupid fun romp rolling with the third street saints. It must of been the collapse of THQ and the saints row 3.5 talk that got to me.

So imagine my surprise when i get deserving slap in the face with a tentacle sword. I liked the story better then 3, i was already fond of the characters. The game was just damn fun. I just won't buy the stand alone, i want everything so i will wait for the inevitable wub of the year edition.

As funny as it was, it had it's deep moments. Kudo's to Volition, without spoilers i never thought "You got what i need" would make me well up but it did.
See, that's the thing w/ SR4 - even though the game-world, characters models, animations, and a lot of assets feel re-used & re-mixed here from SR3, there's that fair amount of new areas & new content - and most of that seems to be in the main quest. Sure, there's new things for side-questing like Blazin', new varations of Mayhem, and some platforming stuff like the Towers, as well.

I had fun w/ my free weekend of 16 hours worth or so SR4 - it was a ton of fun. :D

When it gets dirt-cheap, I'm gonna have to get this and finish this game up. It's a blast, even despite my complaint of asset re-usage.

exactly. that makes it so much worse. just be a company w/good service and admit screwing up.

Too lazy to multi quote on mobile.

If anyone still cares about the Most Wanted DLC, I've now played 4 different drift events and at least 3 different smash n grab events. I wanted to update cause I said the other day that I'd only seen 2 different drifts.
Good to know that there's more than just new Drifting events.

Glad to hear there's also Smash N Grab events.

Anything else new in ALL DLC Pack for races/events...?

EDIT:

So I started on Far Cry 3 last night... damn that game is pretty and addictive. It's the first Far Cry game I've played (FC1 has been in ye olde backlog for ages). I'm really digging the hunting and stealth aspects. I've only just unlocked the second radio tower and completed the cave mushroom quest, but I've spent a lot of time hunting critters.

It's a very pretty game... and for the first time Nvidia's "GeForce Experience" tool spewed forth a good set of graphics settings for my GTX 660... (usually the tool skews much lowers). And with those settings it's very pretty and has the best grass I've seen in a game.

The game is additicting... I was up way late last night because of it.
FC3 is MUCH better than FC2, IMHO. More so than anything, the side-questing stuff is TONS better than what FC2 had for offers. A lot of the good stuff for FC2, that was in the main quest - a lot of the side stuff was repetitive and often copy & pastes. FC3 decided, "Hey, we'll just put awesome stuff EVERYWHERE, in both the side quests & main quests."

I do need to get back to FC3 - but, looks like the bizarre & intriguing Deadly Premonition just got in the way of that.

I wrote a post about it when we were discussing it a couple days ago. The airport DLC adds the drift and smash n grabs for every car, which there are at least 4 different ones of each of those events. And then there are some additional races with a different DLC's logo next to them, but I don't think it's a new type of race. I'm not sure about that. And it also adds around 3 new mods which are drift tires, some kind of air boost, and ram chassis. Oh yeah and each DLC adds a Most Wanted boss fight so there are 4 of those.

I just looked it up and ram chassis was added with the dlc's release but it's free. It's possible the other DLC races I was just mentioning are connected to this ram mod and are free for everyone.

Carl, thank you for Eldritch! It's the one game I wanted to buy/play but missed during the Steam Winter Holiday sale. I've already played a little bit and have managed to pull off some of those jump swear shout moments myself (but I was the only one around). ;)

Your streams are great and entertaining as always. Fellow CAGs, you should definitely check them out and follow Carl (Twitch has Android/iPhone mobile apps as well for on the go viewing).

I saw imac2much in there today, a win for the CAGs. :D/

[Cross posted on Amazon PCDD Thread]

I've been getting back into The Secret World recently and I'd like to give a little something back to the CAG community. So, I'm having a little contest where I am giving away 5 codes for the game (not steam unfortunately, 4 amazon and 1 retail box). Here are the rules:

1) Contest starts now

2) Contest ends on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at midnight pacific time.

3) PM me for one entry (Mulitple PMs do not lead to multiple entries and may lead to disqualifications)

4) Each entry will be assigned a number based on the order it is received. (but having an early entry does not give you any benefits)

5) You can get 1-4 additional entries by including in your pm: faction you think you'd play (1 extra), deck you like (1 extra) and an explanation of why (1-2 subjective extra entries based on how much I like the answer - you don't need to write an essay, just something interesting)

6) When I have a chance on Monday (no specific time, I have to work, but hopefully around 6pm pacific). I will announce the winners in both the Amazon PCDD thread and the Steam thread. I will also pm the winners. The winners must pm me back to claim the code by Sunday, January 26, 2014 at midnight pacific time. If anyone does not, I will pick another winner for their code.

7) Winners will be chosen by random number generator. For example if you are the 5th person to pm me, I assign number 5. If you include the faction you want, you get number 6. Include the deck and an explanation that I like, you get 7, 8, and 9. I will set the random number generator based on the number of entries and if your number comes up, you win.

8) No more than one code can be won by an account.

9) I hope this is enough, but I reserve the right to change the rules at any time. I don't have any plans to, but I've never run something like this before so there may be problems I have not anticipated.

10) These are all US keys, I'm not sure how it works if you are not in the US.

Requests - I'm not going to enforce these in anyway, but it would be nice if:

1) If you win, you use a trial from me before you sign up permanently so I can get the veteran points or whatever it is.

2) If you win, you add my character ("Pyrmancer") in game (you can ignore, me but if you're interested, I'm always happy to help out in the early areas)

3) If you already have the game, it's fine if you give the code to a friend, but it would be nice if you add my char in game and ask the person who gets the code to do this as well.

4) [maybe I'll think of other things]

Thanks to everyone who sent me PMs. There were some great entries and I wish I could buy a code for everyone.

OMG you are amazing! Thanks so much!

I've been wanting to continue playing Broken Age, but it looks like an update they made over the weekend messed up the feature where you switch between the game's two characters.  Haven't checked yet to see if they've updated their update, but beta player beware.

You expectations seem too high for Steam.
Maybe.. but I see no reason why they cannot step up their game.... When a small outfit like GMG seems to outdo them every week its pretty embarrassing.

I have a key but never activated it because of the ridiculous achievements. You have to get up to the top 15% in the leaderboards and that's just plain impossible with all the cheaters out there.
I hate that crap too... Granted, I haven't really played for an achievement since moving to the PC. They're so buried in the steam interface and there's no easy way to compare yourself against "Friend A" or "Friend B" that I sort of forget about them...

Granted, like everything else on steam/PC gaming there's likely a third party website that address those and other issues... (Is there a steam version of trueachivements.com?)

You know what grinds my gears? When the pizza place fudges up my order. I ordered spicy sausage with pepperoni. They forgot the pepperoni and put on regular sausage. How fuck 'ing hard is it to get a pizza order right?
If its a possibility order via the internet... Not a single issues since going to that many years ago. Its like when McDonald's or other Fast Food joints installed those monitors so you can see your order... Allot of those misheard issues go bye bye.

There's a few. I personally use AStats, but there's also AchievementStats... which I now avoid because whoever coded the site decided that every game banner has to be loaded in some sort of skewed 3D and it makes Firefox lock up on my machine.

FYI: 2 of the Company of Heroes soundtracks are available for free from the Complete Pack's Steam page here: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1529/
sweet, nice find.

back in Houston, I went to Wendy's and ordered their bacon cheeseburger, got open to find it was just two buns, no cheese, no burger and no bacon. So, I called the number on the receipt and when I talked to the manager, he said it was because the cook was new, and then promptly hung up on me.

LOL wtf

"can I have a bacon cheese burger"

"2 BUNZ CUMMIN RITE UP"

his climb up the corporate ladder ended up with him not realizing "climbing the corporate ladder" is figurative, so he wound up falling off the ladder, splitting his head open, and being rushed to the hospital, where the brand new surgeon starting amputating his foot in an effort to fix his head

most expensive buns ever

Believe it or not I did order over the internet...I always do. The cooks must just be fuqing dumb as hell. They've screwed up the spicy sausage for normal several times, but today they just flat out missed a topping. I'm gonna go in in person next time I order and be like yo, quit fuqing up my order, please. It's ridiculous.

Yes, I know, I could go to a different pizza shop but I'm stubborn and don't want to so shut up.

I've had them screw up my order over the internet several times. Last time I ordered creamy garlic sauce as a base sauce and got honey garlic sauce instead. If they get the toppings right they burn the pizza, it never works out. I'm through with ordering pizza, will just buy the frozen ones from the grocery store. They're just as good if you find a good one.

I'm not too picky so if the pizza is a little burnt or something I don't mind. I love pizza too much to care a whole lot. The toppings really get me though, because I just don't understand how you can mess that up, especially when it's ordered online and you have the thing in front of you written down.

I remember one time they just plain left off a whole topping, that cost like $3. I started checking the "lightly done" box just so they wouldn't burn it, but then sometimes the dough was too undercooked. I've just had it with ordering pizza.

You just get drunk and eat that 2nd street pizza at 2am

I order online from Pizza Hut all the time.  I think they might have messed up twice.  Only annoying thing is the topping limit.  If I want to put 10 toppings and make my pizza soggy then let me do it.

I went to a crazy Wendy's in Houston too.  Drunk lady in front of me was hanging out of her car ordering a spicy chicken salad.  Then they asked her to confirm and she wanted a spicy chicken sandwich.  Then they asked her to confirm and she wanted five of them.  Then they asked her to confirm and she added two salads.

Mom!?! WTF are you doing in Texas?!

It's all a matter of perspective. Unless I've already forgotten about it, Pool Nation was my only PC game purchase last week, so in my eyes Steam had the best lineup. I don't really see it as one store being better than the other, when most sales are purely subjective to begin with depending on what you are looking to buy.

Just because you were able to expense that Escort Service bill doesn't mean the "bacon cheesebuger" buns cost more. ;)
the one time my mind was out of the gutter, you had to bring it back.

I Thank You :D

We need a burger button on the KB, too.

lmao, Was it the one on Hwy 6? for some reason, this reminded me of the year I lived in an apartment complex across from a Jack in the Box. I would listen to my radio scanner because you could pick up their intercom system. This one lady who happened to live alone three units over would order the same thing every night at 8:30, 2 bacon ultimate cheeseburgers, 6 tacos, 2 apple pies, 3 large fries, and 1 Diet Coke and then would make a comment about regular sodas being too fattening, and I would think to myself WTF??? Here I am living on ramen noodles and tap water and I lost 60 pounds, maybe try that.

Hey any of you Steam players can recommend a decent gaming mouse with basic buttons. Been looking at the razers and the logitech gaming mouses but maybe you guys know any decent ones. Sub $40 price?

Nah, but I did go to that one since I lived between Highway 6 and the Beltway. This one was on Richmond near the Galleria.

Your story reminds of my time at McDonalds. This overweight lady with a mustache would do the same thing every day. Like full combo meal, supersized, cookies and pies, and then diet coke and insist on diet and talk about it helping her lose weight. She also insisted her fries be cooked soft (basically raw and soggy with grease) so we always had to throw in fresh fries when she came by or she would send them back.
