Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

It was last week at the Steam Dev Days conference , one of the discussions was valve looking to do away with Greenlight so this could be the last batch (which I hope not).

I want that Wildlife Park 2 - Ultimate Edition, nothing beats having your own Jurassic Park on steam. :D/
Well, actually Zoo Tycoon 2: Ultimate Collection on Steam running (well) under Win 7/8/8.1 would be better, because IMO Wildlife Park is ZT's bastard stepchild, but since we're never going to get the former, I would happily accept the latter.

EDIT: I'd actually like to see MS's new ZT on Steam with all of the add-on packs that are soon to be released, but I figure we've got a few years to wait before that happens.

I like to listen to TB's videos in the background. His external voice sounds better and is more comprehensible than my internal voice.
You can solve this by getting multiple internal voices. Then just pick the one you like best. Or the one that screams the loudest. Or the one that isn't constantly ranting about its homicidal urges.

You'll figure it out.

Since I have 350+ days left before I can buy a new game, I am going to start crashing through my catalog of games during my days off.

So here is your chance to pick what games I play next. My catalog. Pick 3. Top 5 vote-getters will top my queue. Oh, and anything with less than 5 hours played is likely to just have been card farmed, and not actually played, so don't let that sway your decisions. Voting ends in 24 hours.

Since we're talking about this anyway - I've been trying to lose weight recently after basically paying very little concern to my health my entire life. And honestly - it's not easy. I am basically hungry all the time and it really sucks. But I am sticking with it, trying to eat better. Fast food is out, so are soda and lemonade (we always have lemonade in the house...) and I don't really miss them. But damn do I get hungry in the middle of the day.

My main motivation is just that it sucks not being able to do stuff I want to do. All my biggest hobbies involve sitting down and that's probably not gonna change, but when it comes to things like going to concerts or conventions, I can barely manage because my back, legs and feet start to hurt. I'm 25 now and I ain't getting any younger so I figured it's time to do something about it, or at least try.

Thanks for reading, hope it wasn't TMI. If anybody has any suggestions for dealing with that nagging hunger I'd love to hear it. ;)
Instead of the 3 big meals, split up your daily calories into 6 small meals during the day. The trick is to eat until satisfied not full. Eat more complex carbohydrates that are high in fiber, they are slower to digest and keeps you full for a longer period of time.

elessar123 also gave a good suggestion, almonds and walnuts are good source of proteins and fats especially the omega-3 fatty acids in walnuts and they make a good healthy snack if you just want something to nibble.

As for working out, it really depends on how willing you want to push yourself. You can start by taking a small walk everyday, at least you are burning more calories than sitting down.

I know this is good advice and I've heard it a lot but… who has time for this!?

Pinball fx2

I kid, I kid. And holy crap, it looks like you should wait a year before playing TF2, that has probably really hurt your ability to make adent in your backlog. My votes: Bioshock, Fallout 3, and Batman Arkham City.

The fact that you haven't played any of those games is horrifying.

BTW, I'm gonna have to steal this idea.

Not that anyone cares, but I just beat Deadpool in the hardest difficulty setting. It took me half a day to slog through the last level, and an hour to get through the last fight sequences, but I did it. I BEAT IT! I'm only one achievement away from having them all, but I think it's not possible because I upgraded my weakest weapon and it kills generic mooks almost instantly.

Still.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I can finally go play other games!

Haven't seen this mentioned - the third Hitman game, Contracts, is finally available on Steam. Amazing that it took them this long, considering the only issue was some licensed song they could have easily replaced. But still, that's one less incomplete series in all our libraries.
It's about freaking time!

Glad to see it up on Steam.

Did they remove that song "Immortal" by Clutch or did it get re-licensed?

Yeah, I think anytime you boot up an Elder Scrolls game, you have to expect that you're going to lose about 75-100 hrs of your life. It's always worth it though.

I managed to avoid the itch to play Binding of Isaac for more than a few hours. The fact that it didn't have native controller support kinda surprised me. I'll probably pick up the remake though when that comes out.

Edmund McMillen managed to take ~30 hours of my life with Super Meat Boy though.

Can't you just start a new game?
There's a reset upgrades option. So I used it.

Unfortunately it also deletes all your upgrade bonus points. Which means I had to replay a bunch of levels to get the weakest - but higher combo creating - weapon, I already figured out what to do, I just need to sit down and actually do it. Maybe tonight.

I did keep a copy of my pre-nuked savegame just in case. :p

Anyone else having problem adding non steam game to steam library?

Everytime I tried to add Guildwars 2, my steam crashes. Never had that problem before.

Capcom have informed me that a Resident Evil 4 "Ultimate HD Edition" is coming to Steam (today I believe).

When it's up, the link should be http://store.steampowered.com/app/254700.

Release Date: 28 Februrary

Also, it has cards :)

Nice!

Hopefully, Capcom will re-release all of the Resident Evil games that are OLDER than RE4 to the PC, as well.

EDIT:

Waitaminute.

They fixed an old-ass game, BUT THEY STILL WON'T FIX KANE & LYNCH 1'S USB ISSUES?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!1111

(Edit again: Wait, is this the Hitman game that wasn't available on the store because of a rights issue with a song?)

Edit: Also, bleh at RE4 HD. Who gives a crap! Capcom, tell us if you're removing GFWL from RE5 and Operation Raccoon City, dammit!
Lol, I think you're the only person on earth who goes:

" fuck resident evil, I want my Kane and Lynch, dammit!!!"
LMAO!

I'd be cool w/ IO making Kane & Lynch 1 drop G4WL and then replace it entirely w/ Steamworks.

About Resident Evil series:

I certainly do hope they remove G4WL from RE5 and RE:ORC and implement Steamworks onto it.

Same should go for any other their other titles using G4WL, as well - i.e. Dead Rising 2.

Welp, I just completed Broken Age Act 1.

So far my Kickstarter games have been a mixed bag.  I never backed FTL or Giana sisters, but I enjoyed those a lot.  I backed Strike Suit Zero and I immediately regretted it: boring gameplay and the game has gone on sale SO many times (and so quickly after release; in fact, the first day it was released, it was cheaper than backer price.. stay classy).  I backed Shadowrun Returns and it just did not grab me the way the original on the SNES did.  Torment, Cryamore, Dreamfall Chapters and Project Eternity are nowhere near ready...

So this month plopped two more Kickstarter games in my lap: Broken Age and Banner Saga.  I haven't played Banner Saga yet, but I have high hopes with what I've read about the game.  In fact, if it's as good as Broken Age, my faith in KS games might just be restored.  Broken Age isn't a whopping success, and I have somewhat mixed feelings about some of the gameplay, but overall I had a lot of fun most of the time and the ending definitely left me wanting more.

Broken Age has the same charm that I've come to expect from Schafer's games, like Psychonauts, Costume Quest and Stacking.  The characters are interesting though admittedly one-dimensional (just like most point and click adventure games) and the conversations are mostly quite entertaining.  I think the voice acting is superb as well, especially with the two main characters and the Computer ("Mom").  The animation and visuals prove that a game does not need super high def SSAO bloom TressFX etc etc to set the atmosphere of a game in the right direction.  The overall aesthetic (visuals, music, ambience) elicit zero complaints from me.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the gameplay.  I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I found the item hunting a bit tiring at times.  I wish there was a way to speed up conversations, as I generally read much faster than people speak (pressing space will skip the entire conversation, not just the current dialogue with subtitles) and though there are some areas where your character can run, most of the time you walk at a very slow clip.  I'm glad that there isn't much hand holding, but when certain areas open up, it can be a bit annoying to walk back and forth between screens looking for an item I missed.

Still, it's not like I did not enjoy the gameplay at all.  I think the clever dialogue (and even off hand remarks as I look at items or walk past characters) cracked me up, and that makes a ton of difference in adventure games.  I had an idea of where the story was heading at first, but now I'm not so sure.  All I know is that Act 2 cannot come soon enough.

re4 is worlds better than 6. might as well not even be in the same series. don't let that steaming pile of shit sour you on it.
I really liked Resident Evil 6, even despite its issues.

I just didn't like, more than anything else,...

...the damn repetition and overlapping of some areas and boss fights, in some regards. I wish once I encountered something I done before w/ another character, I could just skip the area/boss fight - especially if they aren't putting my character in a different role entirely.

But overall - yup, I'll take both RE4 + RE5 over RE6.

And yet the game's forums have quite a few people complaining that the game is too easy because they aren't getting stuck enough and having to spend hours or even days figuring out how to progress or sitting there and trying every single permutation of items with each other until something works. This is what some adventure game fans want and you'll find a lot of this in places on the internet where people who grew up with them and play nothing else hang out. They don't want logical puzzles or to find items without mousing over every pixel on screen. I've seen people asking for refunds because of this.

What's my point? Don't trust old people.

Yeah I could see that. It's definitely easier than the old school point and click adventure games, but I don't think I can go back to those games now. The first adventure game I ever played was Al Lowe's Torin's Passage... which I completed but did not really enjoy. The first adventure game that I LOVED was Sam and Max Hit the Road, but I do remember the puzzles were relatively simple in that game. Then again, if I were to go back to that game now, I wonder if I'd be just as frustrated... nostalgia is a dangerous thing.

Steam BS:

I'm kinda excited to hear about that new version of RE4. It seems to be one of those games with so many ports and versions and nobody seems to agree which one is best, so hopefully this will be the definitive release. (Said the guy who owns it on PS2 and Wii, both sealed...)
Since Capcom keeps re-releasing old games (see RE4 HD coming to Steam) and adding content in some of them (How many re-released of SF4 will there be?) - will Capcom EVER put out a FINAL Definitive Version?

I think I know that this is a leading question and that the answer is, "No." ;)

I'd take RE6 over RE5, for co-op. RE4 and RE:R would be a bit harder to compare.. RE:R's gameplay is lacking, but I preferred the story in RE:R to RE4. Overall, RE:R's story>RE4, but RE4's gameplay>>>RE:R.

I played most of those games as a kid. However, I missed out on Full Throttle until I played it about 2 years ago. You know what? It was much easier and shorter than those Lucas Arts adventure games that I played when I was young. It took me about 3-4 hours to complete (about the length of Broken Age part 1) and I didn't really get stuck.

Is it just that I was older and more equipped to deal with it or something different about that game? I'm not sure, but I do think it's funny that one of the people complaining about Broken Age being too easy specifically cited Full Throttle as the classic P&C they grew up with that they were disappointed Broken Age isn't more like.

Unpopular opinion incoming...

Broken Age is a 'casual/mainstream' adventure game made for 'non-gamers.'  You know the types that litter things like G4 TV or Spike Video Game Awards, etc?  People who wear those awful video game shirts and ply on the trade of gaming because it puts money in their pockets.  Like the girl with the big rack that did the documentary for Broken Age… whatshername?  I dunno.  Essentially got where she is being eye candy.  Anyways… Double Fine is a prime example of how a company should NOT be run.  Schafer is horrible at budgeting and most of the people there are overpaid (of course because… for some reason… they insist on basing themselves in San Francisco -- still the most expensive/costly area of the US?).  Developers like Daedalic and put out better games on a fraction of the budget but they don't get the same publicity because the hipster 'non-gamer' crowd isn't behind them.

So, yeah, no surprise Broken Age is an overproduced and underwhelming digital storybook that isn't really up to par with most other adventure games on the market.  The great irony being that adventure games were supposedly 'dead' which is why people shelled out $3+ million on KS and another $3+ million from Jonathan Blow's venture capitalist initiative, pay pal panhandling, etc.  Meanwhile other developers have been making superior adventure games for years without said funding.

From what I understand..and we won't know until its actually out

but Act 2 is the meat and potatoes....Act 1 is supposed to be easy and get you into the story.

That's assuming they don't run out of money first.  And even then it just underscores how bad Schafer is with money and time management.  Sometimes publishers are a good thing… at least they keep developers honest and on track.

This reminds me of Maniac Mansion. I fuck in hate that game precisely because of all that, but some people love it.
