Skyrim (vanilla)...stealth + archery = as OP as you can get in any game, ever. Best ninja game you could ever play
If Elder Scrolls ever gets a (fan made) film, I really hope that there is a scene where a guy in his underroos hops around in a crouched position shooting arrows everywhere, and NO ONE will be able to tell where he is :rofl:

They have that game in a local mall. It rocks.

"Please note that from July 1st 2014 the multiplayer functionality and any 'online' saved games associated to Microsoft Live accounts...will no longer be accessible. From July 1st 2014 users will still be able to create an 'offline' user account and associate new saves to this account. "
Wait, what? That's actually new information, even if it's indirectly stated. That is saying that GFWL games will still be able to activate after July 1. I'd suspected that would end up being the case, but I think this is the first time we've actually seen any source say as much.

Video game based on a popular movie? What could possibly go wrong?

Rarely... for months I regularly get "you already own this product" (when I didn't), but it shows up in the library right away.

TR2013 & FC3 come to mind.
I had that happen the other day when I went to redeem a Steam game on Humble. Humble took forever then said the game already exists on my account. It redeemed, but my Humble page seems to think it didn't.

Aye, I like Skyrim's archery. I need to get back to that game soon. You can reclaim your arrows too like Call of Juarez. That's so badass =D
If you do get back to it and you have not already done so, I can recommend ACE Combat. It makes archery a little more interesting by splitting it into light bows and long/crossbows. Plus, it just makes the overall experience better imo, without a totally complete overhaul like SkyRe.

Crysis 3 also has bows.
*adds to list* Like FarCry3 though I haven't played Crysis or Crysis 2 though. I'm pretty OCD about playing games in order =P

I'll bookmark that. Thanks for the link.

It's cool how a perk allows you to reclaim more arrows from a dead target's body, too. Makes sense that you'd get better at wrenching them from rib cages and skulls without breaking them.

I didn't appreciate quite the rabbit hole that Skyrim modding was...

I've been chasing the white rabbit called Skyrim Total Enhancement... I'm finished with 2.F in their guide and am reluctant to keep going...
Hahaha kiss your life goodbye. STEP is probably the hugest ES modding rabbit hole. It takes modding OCD to previously unattained heights.

I did it once but good lord I don't think I could ever do it again. Biggest PITA EVER. The acronym is fitting since there are many, many, many, steps to it.

*Edited to add: This sort of nonsense exists in the first place because of rampant modder divaism, fierce protection of modder 'rights' (when in reality Bethesda owns it all anyway) and the fact that the various modders won't or can't seem to all come together and just make one god damned pack that people can install without a ton of fussy bullshit.

Reportedly the Russians have some packs like this, all without permissions from the modders of course because they wouldn't give it anyway. Leave it to the Russians.

STEP is known to be a pain in the ass to set up... Personally, I think SweetFX or ENB enhances the graphics well enough, and there are texture mods like Skyrim HD if you're worried about that. Then you can just pick and choose the gameplay changing mods you want on a case to case basis.

I found most of those post processing dealios to be too taxing for my mediocre rig while running other mods I deemed more interesting. I kept it to some minor terrain/foliage/water/snow/mesh mods, HD texture packs and Project Reality + Realistic Lighting Overhaul for my visual enhancements.

ENB is definitely not the easiest thing for most PCs to run with Skyrim. After lots of tweaking, I get mine looking nice enough running at 40-45FPS outdoors and 60FPS indoors/in caves. It really does give everything a softer, more beautiful feel though, and since all (or most) of the settings can be edited ingame through the ENB's GUI, it's not too bad.

Project Reality and RLO are great too though. I think I've got them installed as well. Dark nights are pretty awesome with those installed...

That's my problem with ENB. There's like 800,000 of them and most really need a bunch of tweaking and twerking to suit your config.

Once you find one you like save the damned thing and all the ini and setting info and hold onto it for dear life.

There are actually some ENBs that are more suited to modest rigs btw, but you probably will have to ditch some stuff like DoF.

Yeah... I didn't realize quite how OCD it was until I kept going, and going, and going...

/agree... it's insane/OCD... anywhere else would have this bundled up as a frelling mod-pack. I mean I'm quite sure I can still setup and debug a full WoW raiding/questing/gathering/auctioneering addons setup faster... and well my WoW /played time is in the tens-of-thousands of hours.

I'm seriously debating on just to stop and run with what I've got... or revert an go more minimalist.

About that... I've been seriously wanting a little bit of SweetFX's SMAA on top of my 4x MSAA... (and at least the other SweetFX options are user friendly as well.) (But I've got ENB acting as some sort of memory management mod atm (from STEP)... though since I've got a 2GB GTX 660... I'm not VRAM constrained...

I spent about 40 hours in the last two weeks in Skyrim, and way more hours than I'd like to admit adding/removing mods till I get my perfect set up.

If anything, get Frostfall, Realistic Needs and Diseases, Convenient Horses, a follower mod (UFO or AFT), and your choice of the major gameplay overhaul mods (SkyRe, Requiem, ACE, etc). There's also a ton of graphic/visual improvement mods, but I'm not really gonna get into all that because it'll take fucking forever and I have my own modding to do.

Random: After spending 120 hours on Morrowind, I've been playing Bastion the past few days (really enjoying it, btw). Nice to play a game that I'll get through in less than a week, after such a long endeavor.

Not so random: It's too bad Skyrim doesn't have a neat modding overhaul package like Morrowind does w/MGSO.

Reminds me of my time in the MUGEN scene several years ago... people releasing full games with characters included without permission (because said packs rarely updated game files, devs got flooded with outdated bug reports.)

I've been running with this one for a long time now. It's brutal on FPS, but it's gorgeous, and you can just flip things off in the settings (like SSAO, post processing, etc) until it's running well. Realize you probably aren't going to get much more than 40FPS outdoors regardless of your settings (unless you have a brand spanking new GPU, maybe), but I'd say it's worth it.

This! Stock Skyrim (HD DLC) runs 60 FPS for me... with my partial STEP I'm averaging 45 FPS... on the opening carriage ride/execution. I'd appreciate SweetFX's softer footprint (and a little extra AA from SMAA, on top of 4x MSAA).

If you're planning more than a handful of mods, be sure to use BOSS.
Yeah... my one (positive) takeaway from this STEP rabbit hole is learing to use (and troubleshoot) Mod Organizer (similar to NNM) and BOSS and Wyre Smash... It took me a bit to get it sorted because I misunderstood part of MO and BOSS plain wasn't working for me (fixed it after much strife).

I can venture forward on my own modding adventure with more confidence having learned the basics.

This reminds me that I came across a He-Man side-scroller the other day when going through obscure bundles.

All this talk of modding makes me remember when I purchased Oblivion, Morrowind, New Vegas, and FO3 all around the same time. I like modding a game I know I want to play w/a lot of mods as soon as I buy it, so I don't have to mod it when I want to play. Those four games...so much modding...

I would reaaaally consider going with NMM. It's going to so much easier in the long run since almost all the mods you'll want are gonna be on Nexus. The more mature ones are on LoversLab.

Speaking of this...one mod to get for anyone that is on their second+ playthough or just someone who likes something different is Alternate Start. Don't think I could live without it anymore.
I thought of that last night and forgot to mention it. Definitely one of the best mods out there, hands down.

If there's an ES game based on Morrowind, someone will get an arrow in the knee & the dice-roll will consider the hit an actual "MISS!"

That's another good point. I just have it so ingrained in me at this point to use BOSS, which I've been using since the Oblivion days (in the old Morrowind days we had to order all the mods ourselves :fridge: ), and Wrye Bash, which I've been using since the Morrowind days, but for someone new it does take a little effort to learn them at very first.

Also there's the whole concept of the Bash patch and rebuilding the batch patch every time you make a change. Well I do anyway but I'm kind of OCD about that.

This reminds me that I came across a He-Man side-scroller the other day when going through obscure bundles.

That reminds me, I grabbed that free bundle and meant to try that He-Man game. Thanks for reminding me.

I kind of like the one released on Android not too long ago in a cheesy sort of way. Tried to get that working with Bluestacks but never could so this is the next best thing (I hope).

Can arrow hits miss? I feel like I ended up going with bows to avoid that ridiculous occurrence. Maybe they're just more accurate.

I edited my .ini to allow arrows to track to the crosshair properly (when I use it) and to actually hit things at the distance they should. Vanilla did have a weirdly short range limit to arrows.

[customspoiler=From UESP]
Arrows are not accurate to the center pointer. The arrow shoots slightly above the crosshair. Use the archery practice targets to see the exact dynamics for different ranges.

Arrows can be forced to shoot through the center point by modifying (or adding, if they don't exist) a few lines in Skyrim.ini, in the My Documents folder. Also, setting fVisibleNavmeshMoveDist to a high value (above ~10000) allows you to hit targets with arrows as far as the arrow can fly, rather than passing through targets (without causing damage) at long distances:
Skyrim.ini
[Combat]
f1PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
f3PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
[Actor]
fVisibleNavmeshMoveDist=14000.0000

Alternatively, if Dawnguard is installed.
Skyrim.ini

f1PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
f3PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
f1PBoltTiltUpAngle=0.7
f3PBoltTiltUpAngle=0.7

Mod Organizer integrates with Nexus the same as NMM's download manager links, fyi. Supposedly it does some sort of extra partitioning to help with uninstalling mods (if I understand it correctly).

Everything combat-related in Morrowind is based on dice-rolls.

There are mods out there that mess w/ that.

And - well, Neuro seems to have a good suggestion, too.

I'm currently running most of STEP. Very pleased with the results. Yeah, it's a ton of crap to go through, but Mod Organizer is definitely worth the initial time investment. Such a wonderful tool.

Aah, that explains... that's part of STEP..

I'm tempted to start a High Elf* Mage in Skyrim... is there any reason I don't hear people talking about mages in skyrim?

*yeah, kinda fugly... but the racials look nice.  I'd say my runner up is a Breton.  (Honestly, I'm partial to the Nords but their racials are a poor match.)

Mages are awesome. You could of course install a nice magic rebalancing mod first, but even in Vanilla magic kicks ass. Combine magic in one hand with a sword or some such in the other for even more fun.

Whatchutalkinbout, Elves are beautiful.

I love Mages. Altmer is what I play if I want to feel the part, Breton if I want the stats for magic resistance. But, vanilla magic is kinda weak. It doesn't scale like weapons skills do, so near mid-late game you feel it. I use ACE Combat as I mentioned along with Better Magic, SSSSS and Apocalypse Spells for flavor.
