New Thread:

This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Yeah, I'm willing to grab the pitchfork like anyone else when it's "You no longer get a steam key that was clearly used as bait to promote our game". Once the inevitable happens and they realize how foolish that was though, I just feel like continually attacking them (especially when they seem genuinely apologetic), is like kicking someone when they're already down.
I'd agree, in the case that the person was genuinely sorry. But in this instance, as with far too many, imo, he isn't sorry. He's effectively the school bully who finally got told on. He's not sorry for what he did, he's sorry that he got caught and reprimanded. If he was able to refuse keys without any repercussions, do you really think he wouldn't? Groupees and all of his customers put him in his place, and he was forced to backpedal, that's all.

So screw this guy and every other indie dev who tries to pull this shit.

Lies. I don't lack a CAG Avatar. :)
And also, I don't know if you saw all his posts before he deleted them, but he definitely wasn't as nice then as he is now. He called Foxhack a troll at one point.

FWIW I think the guy was just truly ignorant with unrealistic expectations of what he was going to get out of the bundle while at the same time not looking at the big picture, namely that the bundle got him the brass ring, his game on Steam, which is the real end goal. He definitely did get defensive and reactionary. Worst of all he was willing to punish the buyers for the perceived wrong that Groupees did to him in his mind.

Having said all that, I don't think he's a bad guy just out of touch. And he apologized and admitted was wrong which even if not completely genuine is a hard thing to do in a public space.

I definitely think the white knights are much more heinous. They're really trolls in different clothing. I honestly feel like some of them don't even care so much about the cause they are defending but rather the internet argument adrenaline. In cases with these bundles I really do make an effort to be polite or at minimum civil and I still get called entitled all the time for wanting the keys we were promised from bundles or for merely inquiring where they are in the process even.

...Also, and quite aptly for the game ... I have a great big pair of Ultionus Steam keys here to giveaway.

I was mistaken when I said that. He called you a troll. I just... reacted in disbelief.
Well, in that case, let me get back to trolling. j/k... I don't have the energy to keep with those guys.

Basically this. I'm interested in his new one. When bundled. With Steam keys. The white knights are hilarious. Especially GamerX proclaiming he overpaid $25 for the bundle.

I wasn't aware of the entire posts beforehand, just the general gist.  Obviously, calling someone who purchased your game a troll is not a way to get onto someone's good side.  It's a heated situation, people get angry, and say things that they later regret.  Are some of them just saying it to cover their PR asses?  Of course.  Are some of them actually sorry.  Yes, I believe so.  It's probably pretty difficult to tell which is which just through some text in a forum on the internet.

To play Devil's Advocate, look at it from their end.  These games don't make themselves.  They do actually require some effort on the developers part to create.  We might think the game is utter garbage (and a lot of indie games are), but someone put time and effort into creating it.  In their mind, they have this brilliant idea that when they get on Steam their game is going to sell thousands of copies and they're going to be millionaires overnight.  That's obviously a delusional perspective, but I'd say that's the majority goal of anyone making an indie game.  So when their game gets released, they see that they probably aren't selling that many copies, and now they have to give away Steam keys to people who they think would have bought their game (once again, they're wrong, but let's be nice and assume it's due to ignorance).  The realization that they're not going to be driving a Ferrari tomorrow sets in, and they're pissed off.

We're pissed off, they're pissed off.  It's a never ending cycle.  Ultimately, like everyone else I still want the steam key that was promised to me from the bundle site (we're not technically aware how the contract is signed with them).  I definitely don't like people on the community pages saying "Thanks for looking into Steam keys for us, because you don't have too".  That's flat out wrong, they absolutely have to.  However, once the dust settles I don't think continuing the attack helps either.  Sometimes it's better to walk away.

I'd be interested to hear from the CAG that made Saturday Morning RPG.  He was great about getting keys to users.  However, then when he realized there was that Desura glitch where users could get multiple keys and people were exploiting it unjustly, he reasonably got upset.  That situation is slightly different in the sense that there you could argue that he was losing sales to people that did not purchase the game.  However, I'd like to just hear from a developers perspective who's not just on the defensive.

In any case, sorry to throw the Steam thread into a tangent.  Hopefully there's a new sale soon...

That Groupees sold how many copies? 45000? Now compare those to the total Steam userbase, which is allegedly 75 million. (Source)

45K keys are nothing but a drop in a bucket. Those sales can be considered a loss, but having your product shown to 75 million users? I bet he'll probably make thousands of dollars on the first hour of availability on the store -alone-.

I'd like to tell him that, but that thread has gone further downhill and starting a new thread would be suicide.

I can assist here, I'm starting to understand and bond with him. He said he'd like to help lick your Eggo to help you out. I assume you like your Eggo's hot but hate waiting around for them to cool down so you can enjoy them. He's offering to help speed along the process.

this made me literally lol

So here's the big drop.  PM with the game(s) you want.   Personal use only.  Priority to CAG regulars.  Not on a first come first serve basis, so if you are a regular and send a request a day after a noob, the regular gets it.  Noobs only can request 1 game/key.  No guarantee the key is still good (but it should be).

If there's a game I want that's not on your list do I request in the thread or via PM? Oh and digital deluxe edition, please, not that standard crap.

i pmed for Antichamber but I'll take Little Racers if Antinchamber is already claimed.

Quick question: I'm probably going to build a new PC next month, as soon as I list some of my game collection on eBay.

What's better, buying a set of components (motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU) from a place like Newegg, or buying stuff separately? I already have a case, hard drives, and a DVD drive, I just need everything else. I -might- upgrade my video card too (I have a Radeon HD 6850) but I'm not sure yet.

Buying separately.  All of those 'bundles' I've seen usually aren't any cheaper than buying parts on your own and they usually sneak in sub par components.  Not sure why you'd upgrade the rest of the stuff now when you aren't upgrading the video card.  That's going to be the limiting factor in terms of what games you can play.  If you aren't upgrading that I wouldn't bother upgrading anything else right now.  It'll get cheaper over time until you're ready to get a new card.

How much time do you have? If you can be patient, it's almost always best to buy parts separately as smoking deals (often with rebates) pop up. Sometimes those deals will be for multiple components, but not always.

Galactic hero DarkFalzX has been trolled on the Steam forums. But in space though. This is obviously a cause to embark on an epic quest to punish the troll in question, who just happens to be The Space Fox. Guide DarkFalzX through 7 stages of shmup action, jumping, shooting, and yet decidedly more jumping and shooting to his ultimate goal of total testicular annihilation of his foe.
Uh oh...

... My computer is SIX years old so I'm WAY overdue for a core system overhaul. I've upgraded the video card several times (I've had them die on me at least twice); my CPU (Athlon 64x2 5000+ 2.6Ghz Black Edition) and the low amount of RAM I have (3 GB) are what keep holding me back.

I don't need to have stuff like x16 animetropical * filters or whatever, I just want games to run fine.

(* I know it's Anisotropic. I'm just being silly.)

As I said, I'd rather do this as soon as possible. :p

And I don't like rebates. I'd rather have instant discounts.

Individual components is always best. Check Amazon, Tigerdirect, and Newegg every week for any new deals/rebate offers. Rebates IMO is where the big savings are going to be. Every time I build a comp I use rebates and right now for my latest I have $75 in rebates coming back to me. Those bundles are convenient but not a great value. Microcenter is really good for a MOBO/CPU combo sometimes if you have one near you. I was a bit impatient but was still able to find what I needed over two weeks. My GFX card had a $25 dollar rebate, case had a $10 one, and PSU had a $20 one.

lol

AF just depends on the GPU... 16x AF has minimal performance impact while delivering a perceptible difference. I'ts about resampling an oblique surface into the camera/monitor view. Always kick it up to 16x because it has good quality improvement at minimal performance cost.
