PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

That's less than I expected. No wonder they launched here first.

I was at my Target yesterday. They finally sold their Day 1 Xbone. They had some spots in the case open so it looks like they sold through 2 or 3 in total so the XBone is still selling but not as well as PS4 which is still completely sold out. The PS4 demand is crazy. I wonder how much of this is attributed to the lower price, how much is the weaker hardware, and how much is from pissed off consumers?

Sounds about right for a console, sometimes people forget that JP is much, much smaller than NA. There's no way they're doing NA numbers in the same timeframe. Plus, I'm sure a fair amount of the hardest of the hardcore already imported one(like Cheapy).

I think that's a pretty good start for them, hopefully sales dont fall off a cliff in the upcoming months.

Konami has lowered the price of Phantom Pain to $30 for the physical release. From how it's worded, it seems like they aren't lowering the price of the digital release.

Great news! I'll pre-order at BB when they put it up. Can't wait to play this, it looks amazing on the PS4.

Sucks for the folks who are losing their jobs but this is a prevalent trend in the gaming industry at the moment. These companies are figuring out how to run lean during downtime between projects. Hopefully they all land jobs quickly and use their time at Sony to build on better and greater things.

nothing to do with downtime. Game industry is just dieing before our eyes even with high system sales this industry is still in trouble.

Wow. Didn't know the current remote was incompatible. Well, that sucks. Hopefully there's a solution or new one by the time I pick this up.

Is Xbox one supposed to be on the chart?
Hasn't launched in Japan. I'm not even sure they have plans to.

lol I just received an email regarding the coffin I requested back when the PS4 launched. I just returned the system to Amazon and got a replacement through them though. Anyone else?

You can always just have it charging
I plug my controller in at night. More than likely my battery will die faster since I don't wait until it is completely dead before charging.

It should be an easy cash grab for Sony.

Leaving it plugged in while watching is not a solution.

Somebody make a case for why I should preorder Second Son.
It is the first truly next gen game for the PS4. The next big release after it is Watchdogs. Sony needs all the support it can get right now. The Infamous series has been really good so far and if you would like the series to continue it is worth paying an extra few bucks to get it at launch.

This is CAG after all so I will spare you all the arguments as to why waiting is better.

Was listening to Podcast Beyond yesterday and they made a similar point when talking about the layoffs at Sony Santa Monica.  If we want to see some of these studios succeed, using our wallets and buying the games when they are full price and not buying used.

Infamous is probably the first true AAA title, and the only way that AAA titles can truly succeed is by having big success from launch.  I know I will be buying Infamous from the start because I want to support sucker punch and the great games they make!

Infamous one and two were great games, and this is what everyone has been waiting for since the PS4's launch.  That first, big, AAA, next gen title!  The graphics and physics look amazing, and so far everyone that has gotten their hands on the game have said it is amazing so far and they weren't even playing full builds of the game!  I can't wait till next month when it gets released!

I'm kind of disappointed with the overall PS4 launch. I jumped on pre-ordering because Killzone was a launch title and Watch Dogs was supposed to come out a few days later, but when WD got delayed, Killzone was all I had. I'm getting kinda bored with that, so my Ps4 has been sitting next to my TV for weeks without getting touched. I'm not into horror games so Outlast isn't something I'm interested in and I'm not paying $60 for an updated version of a PS3 game I a) Already have and b) is going to be FREE on PS+ next month. Infamous and MGS5:GZ will give my PA4 some love, but we need a new Uncharted or God of War badly right now.

Another thing that needs to be mentioned is that I will be buying more games released for the PS3/360 than I will be for the PS4 next month, and that's pretty sad considering the PS4 is the hot new thing right now... Console launches are dreadful

Yeah, the best time to get a new console is prob a year or two after it launches.
I mean with the PS4 launch it really depends on what games you enjoy... I have loved playing all the launch titles because I forced myself to sell my PS3 and it was the only way I could enjoy those games. The indie titles like resogun, contrast, and Outlast have been fun to experience for free. Not to mention I love playing my cross gen games because of the sharing function that it brings. I loved Tomb Raider as I had not played it before and thought it was a great PS4 game as a result.

But I can say I am super psyched to play Infamous, and I know that releases will be few and far between, but for me it is what I stated and also knowing that I am going to support my PS4 going forward thanks to being an early adopter.

Wasn't Killzone the first true next gen game?

i don't think god of war needs to die.  Ascension was a prequel and when it comes to most prequels they suck seeing in the end you know what happens.

i'm excited to see what games like uncharted and god of war brings with the power of next gen.

uncharted, eh maybe. although 3 paled in comparison to u2. god of war, no. that series needs to be retired. ascension proved that.

as for killzone: launch title... best next gen can offer... -__-
most reviewers would say dead rishing 3 would be up there also as best next gen only launch title. (plz don't say that's a fanboy statment.) next gen is not all about looks of games it's about gameplay and all the stuff going on in the game. It was amazing all the zombies and action that was going on in dr3 no way last gen could handle all that. Now i never played kz and im sure it looks amazing but sounds like gameplay just a typical fps game.

But like most reviewers say, a game gets good reviews based on what is out at the time in comparison. You can't compare dead rising to say an older MArio game that may have got the same score. Also fyi... you might want to check scores since you say most reviewers would say it was the best next gen only launch title. Especially because it wasn't a very good scored next gen title, 78 on metacritic. We are talking about how Infamous is the first truly next gen title that will have it all gameplay, graphics, and stuff going on.

We can all admit there has not been any true, next gen games that are next gen only. Heck Titanfall isn't even a true next gen title. Infamous will be the true first next gen, next gen only game.

It was sure billed that way but if that's the best next gen can offer then we are in trouble. Excellent looking game but everything else about it was pretty mediocre.
I thought it looked really good.

yeah i get what you mean. inFamous does look amazing. KZ seemed more "polished" to me than "detailed" for a next gen game. I think meeting a next gen launch timetable must be one of the most difficult developer milestones to meet.

Surprisingly, I've still been able to stave off the "new toy" urge on getting a PS4 and was going to wait until the release of MGS V but I"ll be damned if I wait until the end of next year. Destiny and Watch Dogs look to be system sellers to me. Even inFamous but I'm going to sit it out on the sidelines and try to play a demo unit before I make any decision. Although it hasn't been announced, Mortal Kombat is getting worked on (zomg) and I'm really interested in how it would turn out on a next gen platform.

not saying second son will be bad game but lets not jump the gun to say it will be amazing game till we played it. A game might look amazing but if game is not great in gameplay does not matter how good or bad it looks. i'm still puzzled why people say a true next gen game. What makes any game a true next gen by looks? well 1080 p games have been on pc for years so i guess this gen started years ago.

If you have waited this long, waiting until Destiny comes out seems like the wise thing to do. Especially if Sony releases a bundle. In the meantime make sure to take advantage of the PS+ offerings so you'll have lots of games to play by the time you buy one. So far, I've enjoyed my time with both the PS4 and X1 but I would be hard pressed to say that either console is a must own right now. I anticipate that will change when Destiny launches.

Hopefully both Titanfall and Second Sons deliver.

To me it's a combination of gameplay elements and graphics which could not previously be achieved on last gen consoles. Destiny or the Division comes to mind.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing.  Grabbing the PS+ games so I have them when I eventually take the plunge, and working on my last gen backlog (which just got worse from getting a Vita).

Destiny is the earliest I'd buy (but only if my friend I do co-op games with gets one--and I think he's leaning X1).  Most likely I'll wait until sometime in 2015 based on my current backlog and what's coming out on PS4.  iNfamous isn't a system seller for me currently as I've not played the prior games--I have the first on the shelf and the second from PS+ to get to in the backlog.

And again you didn't really read my post. Lots of game reviewers that I trust based on their reviews of games that I love have played Infamous several times, we can all see that it is beautiful, and they have said the gameplay is amazing and a ton of fun. I don't have to wait as I am getting it day one for this simple fact. And we are talking about consoles, don't bring PC into the conversation. I hate when PC gamers jump in and say how amazing PC gaming is and how they have been getting way better stuff and can do more and so on and so on. For me I am simply talking next gen systems, consoles. Things that allow me to purchase them and for 10 years I can play any game released for them without having to buy any new parts, upgrade, or worry that it may not play.

All I know is that Infamous is already going to be the best looking, best gameplay on a next gen system and there will be no reason for the game to be watered down so that last gen can play it.
