(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

i don't really use a start menu replacement thing anymore. I did when I was using Win 8.0 but in 8.1 I find the Start menu bothers me much less because the O/S defaults to the "classic" desktop view. OTOH, this isn't really providing me with the incentive I expected to actually configure the Win8 view in a way that works for me.

 
You guys must use a lot more programs than I do. Everything I need on a day to day basis is pinned on the taskbar or on the desktop. If it's something I hardly ever use it isn't much work to hit the Windows key, type in the first couple characters of the name, and hit Enter. You guys really like scrolling through hundreds of folders and icons in the classic start menu?

I use Classic Shell - Free and I'm very happy with it. http://www.classicshell.net/ Couldn't use Windows 8/8.1 without a start menu. With Classic Shell, I rarely see the metro interface.

 
Umm, 8.1 does have the start button back. It works slightly different in that you right click to get the menu to come up and it's a little more bare bones looking but it does the job for it.

I think you can mess with the settings and probably make it so that you left click to get the menus instead of that switching to metro but I'm fine with right clicking it. *shrug*

 
This is so confusing, the guides to make Windows Update Assistant (?) download an 8.1 ISO tell you that you can only use the ISO to update from 8 to 8.1, not clean install 8.1?? Or is that only if you have a 8.0 key... man this is a pain in the ass. Installing Windows was never this hard.

Hmm this might be what I need. Most guides are only for downloading 8.1 ISO with 8.0 key.

I don't have 8 if you're talking to me, I have 7 and I have an 8.1 key.

If you have 8, why not upgrade to 8.1 already? It's basically a service pack with other UI fixes.

And yeah, apparently you have to reinstall 8.1 on top of 8. That's pretty stupid. I guess that'd be a reason not to upgrade. :p

Wait I thought everyone who owned 8 got 8.1 free? Unless he Arrr'ed his copy of 8 and just decided to jump on a cheap 8.1 key someone was selling.

*Edit: Yeah it's a free upgrade.

Anyway, yeah it's just a service pack basically. You can even do it from Windows update. Stop trying to be like some indie developer overcomplicating shit.

 
I'm in the process of downloading 8.1 files by providing my 8.1 key (which checked out!) which I can then use to generate an ISO to perform a clean install with.

1) Nazi Zombie Army 1/2 does not really interest me.  But, +1 or +2 to my game count does and I'd sooner play one of these before playing generic indie bundle platformer #1076.

2) I feel I should exploit the Spec Ops 4free offer, but the only thing there that I don't own is XCOM which I have (unplayed) on PS3 via PS+.

Help.  Do I buy?

NZA is like Left 4 Dead with a focus on sniper rifles. I doubt they'll be any cheaper anytime soon, so pick up the 2 pack... from JakeNome. ;p

And how in the hell do you not own Spec Ops already?

Foils just ain't worth what they used to be, especially when the game has been bundled or cheap (or free in McPixel's case).

I was all happy the other day when I got a Guacamelee foil until I saw it was currently selling for 12 cents by several people.

Having played the PS3 and PC version, the lack of loading screens was a big plus for double dipping on XCOM after PS+ (it sound trivial, but it's so much nicer to just instantly jump into missions [maybe I'm just impatient]).

 
And no key assigned.  I thought it might be fishy when so many people "got in" at 235 keys.  Must have been the number that got frozen when they ran out or something.  Oh well.

In other news...  Indie Gala is having a special "bundle" this week...  Two copies of Real World Racing for $5.99 (I guess one person gets a sound track and (okay?) original artwork.  I don't understand the artwork part but the best price previously was likely $7.49.

Cutting it close to the wire, but I finished my Four for February.

1: Nightmares from the Deep

2: Sam and Max Season 2 (all 5 episodes)

3: Edna and Harvey: The Breakout

4: Syberia

Yeah, it was a point and click kind of month.  I had originally planned for Edna and Harvey 2 to be my number 4, but I ended up being put off the first one at the end and decided the second could screw.  The rest were all If we're doing a More for March, I'm starting with Syberia II.
