This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

It happens. But why check the price of Marlow Briggs of all things? Just itching to play some of that blockbuster triple-B action?

Joking aside, I'm sure if you talk to Customer Support and say the website goofed or something, they'll refund you provided you haven't played yet.

Actually I think they had a special inside cover thing for the Special Edition box (it had a main cover for the big box, which was a flap you could open to see another cover under it). Inside the box was just a standard edition though because lazy.
No joke, been wanting that game for awhile since I read all the reviews. Nearly every game publication has basically described it as God of War meets a blaxploitation flick and that sounds...pretty awesome. So I'll keep it and shrug it off.

Cover wise, I was thinking this http://irrationalgames.com/insider/poll/ In which #4 won and is on the reverse side of every copy of Bioshock, but really in the end it still means shit if Elizabeth was on the cover or not is the argument I was making. Then again that post I was responding to I think was trying to state Elizabeth's no show on the cover art made all the difference sales wise.

I have no problem seeing yet ANOTHER Rockstar sale. Remember how Risk Factions was on sale seeminginly once or twice a month every month for a year? And we haven't seen it on sale for how long? If we're lucky, at some point, Rockstar will hit their imaginary sale limit and we'll just have to see something else eventually.

I wish there will be a massive EA DLC sale, where all their pricy DLCs get 50% off,.

My god, I have so many EA games unfinished becasue of their DLCs.

xTekken is just....ugh. I loved that game in it's early days and then ended up quitting it in a fit of rage. It wasn't the terrible throws, which were slow,. easily tech'd AND did pathetic damage. It wasn't the damage scaling or immense amount of health people get back for tagging out. When players started figuring the game out, doing damaging combos, which usually ended with a cinematic super move, took so long that matches were unwinnable when there was 30 seconds left in the round. It wasn't even that dumb autoguard/tech gem that people abused that blocks every attack and stops every throw for free. No, it was this.
You know that last year's patch remedied literally everything you said? The pacing is faster, timeouts are rare, throws remove all recoverable health from your opponents, the auto-block and similar gems were all taken out, the list goes on. It improved the game quite a bit. Unfortunately, if you haven't played since the patch was released, you will likely be eaten alive by more experienced players if you head online.

Yeah! Like a 90% off BF4 season pass! Cause fuck paying $50 for that broken ass game's SP!

Same old Rockstar sales, true, but if there's a single soul who doesn't own Max Payne 3 THIS is the time to get it (or wait two months for the GWG treatment XDD). I have no complains about any aspect of the game. The story and narration is over the top, fluid mechanics with great gun play as commented, and I had a great time with multiplayer (and i'm more a coop player than competitive). I dare to say that even people who don't like it much could say thats a bad price for such amount of content and game hours. I can't figure why its sales were not so great, maybe a little of what has been commented: MP means a lot to old gamers but new generations have their mind rotten by CoD, they want epic scale action not more personal stories, and that's what Rockstar does, especially with this franchise. It's hard to locate a 3rd installment to this massive target, even more with all the years in between.

Don't forget to vote when the new bracket is put up!

http://consumerist.com/tag/worst-company-in-america/
I'm not sure if you're joking or not.

I don't live in America, but there are a ton of other countries that are worse than EA. I'm not even sure what EA does that other publishers don't that give them such a bad rep.

Oh well, it's not going to matter because as soon as all the "gamers" find out about this, they'll swamp the bracket to vote against EA.

I am joking. Also, EA is definitely one of the worst publishers in the industry. Latest example is the Dungeon Keeper controversy when the game offered you in-game currency for rating it in the App Store.

From Wikipedia -> It has also attracted criticism for its rating system mechanic. After a certain interval, the player is asked to rate the game. Selecting the "5 star" option forwards the user to the App Store or Google Play rating page, while selecting the "1-4 star" option only gives the player the choice of emailing feedback to Electronic Arts. In order to give the game less than five stars through this prompt, the player must agree to give the game a full five-star rating and then give it a lower one once they reach the review page

Critics have noted that the prompt's claim that "5-Star ratings from you help us provide free updates!" suggests that the games creators will stop providing new content if players don't give the game sufficiently high ratings

But yes, there are plenty of worse American companies out there. And what you predicted, pretty much happened for the last 2 years of this. EA won the "Golden Poo" in 2012 and 2013, with Bank of America as the runner-up both years, when Bank of America is absolutely the bigger evil.

That's kinda what I figured as well. If it was based on shitty sales then you'd see games like Dark and that terrible motorcycle game with clothes on sex scenes.

...wut? Having Elizabeth on the cover would not have made a lick of difference in sales. Plus even for some goddamn inane stupid ass reason having Elizabeth on the cover would have somehow made the game sell a million more, they could've done something considering they allowed people to choose which reversible cover they wanted after they revealed the cover with just Booker on it.
It was their marketing not the development decision because they think men on covers still appeal more to its audience, to me it wouldnt matter if book elizabeth or the song bird was on the cover i would have bought it either way.

Marlow Briggs is really really awesome, and exactly what it looks/sounds like. Certainly not revolutionary in any way, but just a lot of stupid fun that knows it's stupid and revels in it. Easily one of my biggest surprises in recent memory, I'd recommend it to anyone that can appreciate what is basically a B-movie shoved inside a character action game.

If anyone cares, I wrote a more in depth review over on Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/id/mrninjasquirrel/recommended/249680?snr=1_5_9__402

You sold me on getting it.. But ultimately sold me on holding off thanks to the bolded part lol. The wounds from the latest Civ Rev GWG are still fresh after paying $7.50 during the Holiday Sale

EA is definitely one of the worst publishers in the industry.
Two words: ONLINE PASS. They were first to introduce and settle that despicable practice. You can find other companies in the industry of dubious manners but EA will be the pioneers of customer banging. They ease a way in for the next ones.

Personally, they screwed me with a 5 iron, cos i've been playing Tiger Woods games since TW'99 in the ps1, but they managed the series so bad and greedy that i had to put it down. Achievmnts unobtainable if not online, the infamous online pass, cyclic dlc that doubles or triples the original main game price, clone games, SERVERS shut down in 2 years (for god's sake) and the list goes on till boring.

We all have been there one way or another :p Well, chances are there will be a rockstar sales in the near future anyways... :)

I never saw online passes as evil. A measure implemented so companies still make money from used game sales, big deal.

Day one DLC, now that is an issue.
It doesn't have that much stuff, honestly I'm sure many people don't care as its not a large amount of content.

I think that was just for launch

unless you are just talking about day one dlc in general in all games then yeah I agree.

Honestly, shit companies like GameStop should give a percentage to the publishers since they make all profit off of used games. Its only fair. But gs is the devil and it'll never happen.

That's why I support and back MS on trying to implement a way to prevent gs from making money on others hard work.

Honestly wish all those companies would go out of business.
We would go out of business as well,

lol, brb getting 600 dollars for free

Maybe if we lived in a perfect world, but even if gamestop was shutdown, some other company would take over lol.

What we can hope is that they will loose power because of so many trade in options.

What we can hope is that they will loose power because of so many trade in options.
Not getting your first two lines...

I just want the right people to get a piece of their pie. That's all. Its their hard work.

GS rapes you over the TIV and smiles at you while doing it. Then they flip it for -$5 of new cost. Oh wait. I'm sorry. Don't forget the extra 10% trade in and discount! Big fuckin deal.

Losing power would be a great start.

Amazon trade in, all the extra credit I get at least comes from used games lol,

so what I'm saying is that if used games weren't there, I wouldn't be getting 600 dollars worth of stuff for free.

Honestly, shit companies like GameStop should give a percentage to the publishers since they make all profit off of used games. Its only fair. But gs is the devil and it'll never happen.
There are several games that have it where if you buy it used from GS, it comes with the online pass code (MK9 for example). I'm assuming in that instance, they have that sort of deal worked out. Basically, the cut to the publisher is factored into the price, which is how it should be (it most likely ends up being cheaper that way), if project $10 codes are going to exist.

I wasn't specifically referring to Online Passes when I said EA is the one of the worst publishers in the gaming industry. But their Online Pass system was a joke when the servers would end being turned off 1 - 2 years later. It just reeks of greed.

What you have to realize though is that pretty much all of the money from online pass/project $10 sales goes to the publisher, not the developer. The developer gets paid for their work ahead of time, sales only influence their bonuses/royalties. The passes are just a way to pad the publisher's bottom line and get a cut of the used game market.

HOWEVER, as has been pointed out GameStop is certainly no saint. And it goes far beyond just screwing people out of trade-in value. They bully developers/publishers for pre-order DLC by threatening not to carry their game, they punish employees for people cancelling pre-orders, they sell gutted display copies of games (with discs that are actually borrowed by the employees until they run out of other copies) as "New", the list goes on.

It's a complicated issue. The other problem is that in no other media industry would people demand that the used market pay a percentage to content creators. There's no "online passes" for CDs, DVDs, BluRays, what have you. As much as publishers want to make you believe this to be the case, used game sales do NOT correlate to lost revenue. Most people buy games used they would never buy new in the first place. It's a good way for an overlooked game to get exposure, and a used copy of a game can STILL see revenue via DLC and the like.

Anyways, to EA's credit, they dropped the Online Pass thing (all Online Passes are now free). So there probaly was never that good a reason for it to begin with. The only company that I believe that still does project $10s is Ubisoft. THQ did it but they're gone, WB dropped it after MK9 and Arkham City. Can't think of any other publishers that did it, even Activision and Microsoft never adopted it.

The new idea for encouraging buying new over used seems to be to make the first print "Limited Editions", that come with a one-time redemption code for bonus goodies.

For example, Battlefield 4 came with the first expansion DLC in all Limited Editions/first-print copies. GTA V included the Atomic Blimp. Prototype 2 included access to Radnet. Ninja Storm 3 included Dragonball Z-costumed Naruto. Darksiders 2 came with an expansion (Argul's Tomb, though it ALSO had an Online Pass, but THQ was desperate for money).

This model is genius because not only does it not lock you out of a chunk of content (multiplayer), it encourages you to buy new and buy it AT LAUNCH (when it costs the most/they make the most money) because further printings of the game will not be Limited Editions/come with the code, meaning it's okay to buy it used after a certain point. And of course, all the "limited edition" dlc is available on the marketplace and doesn't necessarily equal $10. I actually like EA's method with Battlefield the most, including the first expansion pack as an early adopter bonus is a win-win for everyone involved. Nobody feels cheated, and everybody gets what they want. Too bad BF4 turned out the way it did.

This is also funny because you can tell when a game sold like shit, due to only being able to find copies of the Limited Edition. The Darkness 2 is a good example of that, I don't think a standard version ever existed.

Edit: Ubisoft apparently has come out and said that Assassin's Creed IV will be the last game they'd put out with an Online Pass. So as of that announcement, online passes are officially dead.

There's a list of games with online passes over here -> http://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showthread.php?t=441198

It is surprisingly short, and most games are from EA. So it figures when EA announced the discontinuation of online passes, everyone followed suit. Completely forgot though that even Tecmo-Koei had them, but they are kind of greedy (see Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate's Ultimate costume pack.. it's expensive as hell and they're STILL releasing costumes outside of the pack).

Most of them are available for free now, by the way. The only ones that cost anything are THQ, Ubisoft, Tecmo-Koei's, the one for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and the one for Batman:Arkham City.

I just... can't find the words to express how wrong seems to me that customers agreed to be extra charged when buying an already overpriced product. Yeah, i found one: indoctrination.

This is how EA Sports director Peter Moore justified the online pass:

We’re looking at 5 million game sessions every day on EA Sports servers. But looking at digital delivery, maintaining servers able to support that volume of people every 24 hours, a solid billing infrastructure and customer support – it all takes time, effort and money and we’re at the cutting edge of that.
If my english doesn't fail me, he justified the extra 10$ for the maintenance of overloaded servers, due to new gamers represented by the used market, which is where the online pass was targeted. Of course that has no sense at all, because for everyone who buys an used game there's one that has sold it, so the number of online community stays constant (or in decline for games gettin dust on the shelf). And anyway, they still shut down servers in two years with or without online pass, so who are they kidding? It's just wanting to have moar money, a share of the second user.

About Gamestop as a company i'm not gonna say anything cos i have no clue of how they work (refer to bobby's post who seems better informed) but regarding the second hand market as a whole, saying things like it should disappear is reckless and plain foolish. That market HAS to exist because it's necessary. It gives people the possibility of buying a game that can't afford in another way. It adds length to the game lifespan cos online community renews with fresh blood. It adjusts prices, giving customers a voice, detracting power from companies. Do you imagine how would happen if publishers didn't have the used market for them to restrain? They'd have even more of the currently insane power to set prices. But overall the used market must exist because people demands it, and like i said, if someone thinks otherwise, excuse me but has been misleaded and indoctrinated. It's called free market.

Lots and lots and lots of Guitar Hero discounts. Also, the weapon packs for Earth Defense 2025 are free, so get it now just in case they decide to charge for them in the future.

Don't worry. They're staying free. The first two were available at launch for free and have since remained free. They just released the OTHER two packs today, and they are also free.

Both of them are former pre-order bonuses too, which makes them being free all the more awesome. Good of Sandlot/D3 to do so.

Either way, thanks for the heads-up. I got both of the new ones.

Here's the links for the new packs for lazy people.

What are you people waiting for? Go get your in-game inflatable maid doll explosives already!

Edit: You weren't kidding about the Guitar Hero stuff. Looks like EVERYTHING "Hero"-related ever is on sale. Guitar Hero 2, 3, World Tour, 5, Band Hero, DJ Hero 1, DJ Hero 2 and the network as a whole.

Are there any songs that are achievement-related? Now might be the time to pick 'em up.

Grabbed Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams early this morning since this weeks sales don't interest me.
Was considering Foul Play but I am going to wait and grab that on PS4/Vita.

I think two of the last games on my wish list for a sale are Far Cry Classic and Half-Minute Hero. Maybe one day.

Midnight Club LA is also on sale for $3.74. It's been on sale a few other times. It's a great racer and this GoD version is the Platinum Hits version that comes with all the DLC included so don't worry about that.
Just confirming, the GOD version for $3.74 includes the DLC and you can earn 1250/1250 on it without buying any additional DLC? Because if true that is boss.

The GoD copies usually just come with online passes. Any external DLC that costs money you still need to pay and download for.

I think he was confusing platinum hits with premium. From what I remember, platinum hits are the same game, but at a cheaper price. Usually $20 (I haven't checked in-store for a few years). No DLC included.

This is usually true but not in the case of Midnight Club: LA as it is a complete edition that includes the South Central DLC pack which expands the original map by 1/3rd and adds off-road areas, stunt jumps and the South Central rail yards.

So yes it is confirmed that the GoD version is the Platinum Hits version which is the complete edition that comes with the above DLC pack including the 250 achievement points too. So yeah it's a pretty good deal despite it being an older game it's a great racer.

Very sweet. I might pick it up meow

I've passed on Midnight Club a few times already and I'm trying to decide whether to buy it this time. I really loved Need for Speed: Most Wanted (the first game)  I played through it a few times on the Xbox and 360. I know they're two different games but does anyone have an opinion on whether I'd enjoy it based on the type of game NFSMW is?

Does your autocorrect automatically change "now" to "meow," or is that deliberate (I noticed the tagline above your profile pic)? It's funny either way. Lol.

Well, that's the problem - the number in the online community (more or less) stays constant. The calculated value of keeping the servers running factors in the decrease in community and being able to reduce the servers over time. With used games, that number is kept artificially high and people that tire and sell the game become a new person playing online instead of dropping the community size. The formula for server cost has to factor in the community staying large for an extended period. Do we want to pay up front for the cost of the servers remaining busy and active longer up front, or let the people that keep it up and busy after the game would have normally died down when they get it used more cheaply cover that cost.

Well, that was the justification behind it. At least they realized their folly and most have stopped that stuff. I personally don't mind them including some extra bonus outfit or weapon for new buyers, but locking away an essential feature seem heavy handed, and most companies seem to now agree (I'm guessing more because the negative outcry did not outweigh the expected profit).

The Midnight Club: LA markdown is currently not gold exclusive, everything else still is.

That's a lot of music stuff to sort through.  Darksiders II and WWE 2k14 are also marked down to $40.

Ugh, I need less than $1 to get Bully (need 80 cents); is there a way to add small amounts to your XBL without adding a credit card and doing split payments?  I'm not going to buy a $15 card, which seems to be the smallest amount in retail stores. And I'm only at 250 credits on xbox live rewards from the monthly survey.

Just get a $5 card from Amazon?

I Think Marlow Briggs will be on sale next week. How do I know this? Because I accidentally pressed "confirm purchase" when checking the price on it on XBL.
I've fallen asleep, controller in hand, at the dashboard or in the store. I'm always afraid of sleep shopping.

All downloadable songs for Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Band Hero games will be delisted on March 31st, 2014. It's on Guitar Hero's Facebook page.

That's the reason behind the recent promotion. What a wonderful digital future we're heading to...
What is the problem with it? Cheap songs that we can still play and re-download. Sounds great to me. Sadly Guitar Hero games make me sick, so I will not be able to take advantage of this promotion.

this is pretty shit, however at least this is USUALLY relegated to copyright IP issues, ie music licenses expiring, a problem we've had to deal with on re releases forever, or movie/comic book properties. The real take away lesson is dont expect any perminance in your DLC that has to do with IPs already established through other medium.

Everything being delisted?

This is why I double dip on Steam. No worry about servers going down, and keeping stuff lol

Ninja Edit: Ah yes, music licensing issues. Well there's a good excuse. It would probably happen anywhere.

You'll still be able to download and play songs that you purchased after they are delisted. There are not many people that are still buying songs anyways or they would have put more money into keeping licenses. By delisting them we get songs cheaper, they get a little bit of money from sales, and they save money by not renewing licenses.
