PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Don't forget, an update coming that brings several features people want as well in the works. Twitch Archiving, HDCP off option, and new video editor... they are really listening to complaints and addressing them.
Preloading is also on the horizon for the digital lovers out there. :D

Actually the update will just allow for dimming of the light bar, not completely turning it off. So glad I ordered another set of decals. :D
Even if they do let us turn it completely off one day I probably wouldn't because I love my decals so much, haha.

Yeah, they are pretty cool. I just got the PS logo ones, and now a PS4 set since I tore one of those. Thought about getting a Batman one or something, but liked that the Sony logo ones look natural.

I'd only turn off the light if it really makes a battery life difference--like an hour or more difference. And I really don't see that since LEDs use such little power. I have two controllers and a charger dock, so I don't really have issues with dead batteries anyway since I always have one charged and ready to go. Maybe if I ever do any local co-op marathons I guess.

and so it begins... just like people have speculated

http://www.joystiq.com/2014/03/20/rumor-titanfall-2-rights-secured-by-ea-wont-be-microsoft-excl/

So much for it being a killer IP for Microsoft this gen. When you are a third party exclusive it only makes sense not to limit the systems you develop for. Titanfall 2 on PS4 just makes sense.

Your move Microsoft...
seems like that rumor about EA regretting not putting it on sony platforms is becoming more true

Third party exclusives just really don't make sense. The console make really has to throw a ton of money at a publisher to make up for potential lost sales on other platforms.

If there's a big disparity between the sales leader and the competition--like in the PS2 generation--it's easier to do of course. But that's unlikely to happen as stuff like Halo 5, Gears 4 etc. will move X1s and keep the gap from getting that larger.

The differentiators will be first party exclusives, games performing better on PS4 due to being more powerful, and subjective stuff like which OS, feature set, online service etc. you like better, which your gaming friends own and so forth.

yeah im pretty confused by the people that gave it 7s lol.
I wish people would stop paying so much attention to review scores. I also hate how if a game averages in the 80's on metacritic it automatically sucks and they pass on it. Grand Theft Auto 4 has a average score of 98 and was not even close to deserving it. I think its the worst one ever made quite frankly. It bored me to pieces.

They got a fat paycheck and Titanfall is selling very well, so I doubt that very much.

False, they would have got more out of releasing multiplat instead of just MS. Sony already did a meeting with EA and showed them that... that is what people are talking about. EA and Respawn were looking to make up the difference of not releasing on PS4 with their deal with MS. They made a lot of money, but not as much as what they would have got.

“We’re struggling to keep up with demand,” which has been highest in the U.S. and Europe, House said. “Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we’ll be closer to a full supply situation.” House said demand has remained steady in the U.S., including during the launch period for “Titanfall.” -Wall Street Journal

I haven't read anything about this Sony EA meeting. Do you have a link?

BOOM!

Sony also used its own metrics in a meeting with EA last week and showed them what they would have sold on the PS3 and PS4. The money EA took from MS doesn’t even begin to cover it. The EA guys went over the math and agreed. EA is in full “We’re so fuck sorry, Sony” mode currently.”

That insider, Peter Dodd is very reliable. He was also the one that reported about xbox one live party issues and other problems with live since last October. These are the same issues that is currently being patched by Microsoft right now. This is also the same insider that reported that the 360 Titanfall will be at 720p and 30fps. So take it for whatever that is worth.

It's ok if he wants to ignore it and call it hearsay. the fact that Ea bought the publishing rights completely is reason enough to believe this is true. They are on the path of no longer having the Titanfall series being exclusive going forward. Heck there are even rumors of Titanfall coming to Mac officially now. It is obvious that with a larger install and the need and want for new games, Titanfall would have sold big on PS4, and possibly bigger than Xbox One due to the install base.

Doubtful. For months, sony fans have been talking about how Titanfall looks like crap, isn't 'next-gen', and is just a COD clone. The ones that were interested, said they'd rather play FPS on PC and still bought it for PC anyways.

Or were they just saying that because it's on a console they hate?

I got no hate for Titanfall or the Xbox one. I just didn't like that Titanfall doesn't have a single player campaign or a co-op. Even though it didn't have these features I wanted, I never bashed the game at all. I think the game is fun and have stated that before. For the Xbox One, the only thing I hated was that the Kinect was an mandatory add-on when there is nothing going on for it gaming wise for me. But even with all these issues I still bought them both and enjoying them except for the Kinect.

I bought the original Kinect on release day for $150 because I was hyped about the technology but sadly it has not lived up to my expectation. So I am not bashing the Kinect just because it is the thing to do. I have actually tried and experienced it.

This needs to become a trend. I love it.

So this is basically hearsay from a "insider" and not anything official. Okay, got it. Thank you for clarifying that for me.
From Peter Dodd in October 13

"The short story is that Xbox Live and the OS, especially in functions that involve XBL, are a complete fucking mess. One source says we aren't talking weeks until it works correctly but "months." Things like parties dropping people when moving from one thing to another. Connectivity issues. Missed invites. Friend request not working, etc."

Not bad for some hearsay from an "insider", right?

but asspickle says different. someone with no credible source what so ever. nevermind that EA just secured the rights to titanfall 2 and flat out said it would be multiplatform. if that "fat paycheck" was worth it, they ask MS to do it again, which they didnt.

Yeah, Titanfall would sell big on PS4 given how well stuff like CoD Ghosts and BF4 sold.

I have no interest in it (or CoD/BF) as I'm not into competitive MP games at all. Give the sequel a campaign on par with the campaigns in Halo, Gears, Killzone etc. and I'd give it a go. But not if it's just a super short, lackluster affair like most CoD campaigns.

I think the game looks ok, but not much better than that. It looks like it plays similar to COD w some additional perks such as parkour and titans, but actual shooting people seems pretty damn familiar (which is backed up in several reviews I read). Add to that terrible AI, no real campaign, and bad frame rate in areas.

Yet, still looks like fun and would like to play it. I was bummed at the exclusivity then and am glad theres a good chance Il be able to play a sequel.

Not its not. EA bought the publishing rights because its a successfully franchise. If they didn't another publisher would and that other publisher would be ranking in the money that the titanfall franchise will make. It has nothing to do with Sony or even Microsoft. That article is pretty absurd. EA is a huge company who makes products on a wide range of devices so why in the world would they need Sony to show them metrics on how well their game would sell on that platform? EA does this themselves which is how they determine which platform to put their games on.

Anywho, is there a list of upcoming PS4 exclusives? I'm about to get my refund check back and m trying to decide between upgrading my gaming PC or getting a PS4. I have a Xbox One and gaming PC so I'm already covered on multiplats and indies.

Titanfall does look like crap for a "next gen" game though. The online campaign is a joke, It has frame rate and screen tearing issues, and its 792p. The AI is also dumb as dirt but my Xbone buds say that it is meant to be that way and adds to the game somehow. Whatever. Add to the fact that its really barebones when it comes to game modes and missing some key features like private matches, I would have probably waited for sub $20 sale if it would have released on the PS4. People do seem to be having fun with it though. Hopefully Respawn addresses all these issues when Titanfall 2 drops on the PS4 next year.

Respawn is supposed to be rolling out a patch for it soon to update the graphics and add more modes etc. I enjoyed it for the first 3 days I had it played campaign and some MP but then my friends all jumped boat on me and haven't been on much. I think the main reason people like it so much is because even being a scrub (like myself) at shooters you can still be the #1 player in most matches because of how horrible the bots are. I can't count how many times I got killing sprees on the bots because their pods land and they just stand there.

Enough of dumb ass titan fall  though. Seems like Reviews are coming in for Secons Son

Being the responsible adult that I am, I decided to take off from work. I'll be playing infamous all day while wearing my new beanie.

Don't feel bad my friend, the gamestop I have it preordered at isn't doing one either. one of their employees told me that they only had around 30 reservations for it.
Very disappointed in the lack of midnight releases!!!

Didn't get to play much, but from what I did play it's sweet. I really enjoy traveling around the city and I currently only have the smoke power. Off to bed now, gotta get my kids off to school in 4 hours, then get myself to work for a 10 hour shift.

Enjoy guys, I would've taken off from work to play it as well, but I'm stuck on Jury Duty today. Hopefully I will be playing by 5, plan on vegging out all weekend to really get into it. So excited!

Did instore pickup on my order, gonna go grab it when they open at 10am.

Completely kinda related side note, for some reason the last few instore pickup orders (like 5+) ive done at bby, I never get the ready to pickup email. Never had an issue when picking up as usually I might order in the morning and pickup that afternoon or something, but its just funny I never get the ready for pickup email any more.

Gonna try and at least play it for a few minutes when I get it, prolly wont touch it again after that until next week.

I can't get the tracking number from BB to work for mine but I won't have time to play until
Next week anyway. Heading to Mohegan for the weekend after work.

Got my Second Son Collector's Edition this morning and it looks incredible so far! But on another note, is anyone having any luck getting Cole's Legacy to download? Every time I try to do it it just says "Cannot download"...

Does anyone remember the feature on the PS4, that let's you take control of a friends game remotely? They talked about it at the PS4 announcement but I haven't heard anything since about it. Someone mentioned it on a question to Podcast Beyond this week and it reminded me if it.

Oh yeah I remember that, where they said that you can take control of your friend system and help them get past an area if they got stuck somewhere in a game.

I can't remember exactly where I read it from, but it was recently mentioned again by Sony and was tagged with the "still coming/coming soon" response.

It just seems like a pretty sweet feature. I was thinking that they announced it with the system then realized it would be difficult to do so they dropped it. Is there an official name for it?

I'm not sure about a name but I'd assume we'll hear more about it as the streaming services start to roll out. I'd assume the technologies for both are pretty closely linked as it would have to be streamed to the separate PS4.

I started up Killzone Shadow Fall last night, and played through the first five chapters.

I was kind of hating it through chapter 2, but it got better (or I just got more used too it).  I'm surprised they changed the gameplay so much from 2 and 3.  It's still fun, but not as much of an action packed, set piece filled game like those two (and especially the third).

The graphics are pretty amazing though.

Gotta learn how to use that flying thingy.

I still need to go back and finish this, played through it on hard mode and pretty near the end and got kinda stuck on this one crappy bit.

So what do you guys think of Infamous? I'm not sure why some of the reviews complained about it being the same old gameplay. Personally I think the gameplay is different then the older games. They did a few interesting things with the DualShock 4 also. I really enjoy how they integrated the Spray Painting. It feels like a Next Gen Infamous game. Story wise I'm not to far into it, but from what I seen so far I enjoy it. The story and characters seem pretty good. Just met Fetch and she seems pretty likable.

OK now Sony... Get your devs to start pumping out some new IPs for the PS4. Everything released so far is a sequel to existing franchises - Killzone, Infamous, Metal Gear, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Battlefield. Nothing wrong with sequels, but isn't the release of a new generation of consoles supposed to spark  new, creative ideas on new technology rather than beating dead horses?

Just wait for the next Uncharted and the inevitable Ratchet game.
