[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I have code for the Legend of Zelda for the Wii I bought with my points a few months ago. I never redeemed it as I don't have a Wii remote. Anyone willing to trade me Super Mario World for it?

Also, will these games show up as bought and I can download them on my account on the 3DS?

Hmm Mario Golf and Mario World are really tempting. I have 1300 points and have always been holding out hope that the DS game card case would be restocked. My wife is going to be irritated when she finds out I procrastinated on ordering the accessory box and its now sold out. I would be down for the Luigi pouch but it doesn't accommodate XL's

Which Legend of Zelda? Majora's Mask? If so, PM me.

I'm assuming A Link to the Past?

No. No games in the eShop are cross-buy. SNES games aren't even available on the 3DS, legally.

As much as I hate VC, I'ld love to replay Super Mario World, and it may be worth the hell of filling out surveys to save $8 in this instance. But it's not the GBA SMW is it? I'd rather play the one with the unique Luigi mechanics and Mario Bros included than the one with the pseudo 2 player.

Exactly. Money spent towards a tv I don't really need, because I already have one & love it, could be spent towards a number of things I actually want & would love. These new consoles forcing me to upgrade don't mean I have to upgrade yet. Especially if I need to put $200 on top of that $400 or $500 price mark. Plus all the money it would cost to get those digitally enhanced dvds of movies I already own & a better stand so my cat won't break it. No thanks.
Took me 8 months to save up for a wii u alone (I work on commission) & thanks to people getting rid of their wii component cables I'm able to enjoy it on my tv or my parents HD tv when they want to play it.

I also disagree. Where in my console manuals can I find "an HD TV is required to enjoy [insert console name] here"?

And to the PC comments, no I don't own a PC. I use my parents. Not very into PC gaming besides the occasional steam & MMO games.
I mainly use my computer for work related things & drawing.
But anyway, when the price of the newer systems fall & I start to see $100 prices on some HD TVs then I will consider upgrading but still keep my old fat back SD TV for old school NES/SNES/Atari gaming & SD DVDs/VHS tapes.
Ouch. I literally bought my WiiU on a whim at launch, but hadn't even put any thought into it before that. Goddamned Best Buy and their flashy displays

It's easy to forget that some some people don't have it so good. I've gone through a couple of really rough patches myself this year but had some last minute work pull me through, during those times I don't spend money on non-essentials, but I've never had to actually save up whenever I wanted a new system or TV.

Who the hell are all these people who don't like HDTVs? HDTV is a gift from God.
I used to think that. Then I got a 3D TV. Now I can't go back to standard anymore.... :D/ Seriously though, I do find it funny that I am constantly bitching at Nintendo for not acknowledging 3D on the WiiU when others here are still on SD.

I'm curious if anybody here got one of those 4320P or w/e TVs yet?

I suppose, though the store was almost out of stock of anything remotely good anyway. What we were down to? Kirby Patches, school supplies (missed the pencil case Y_Y), over priced pouches and the Zelda posters.

yeah i noticed early... very weird... something is going on inside CN
Hopefully, though I don't like the odds of that being good.

They're doing an update to streamline the process of having lackluster rewards.
I wouldn't be shocked if this was a cop-out to get people with expiring points to buy digital items (saving them money) or see if this increases digital sales to give them an excuse to offer less physical items. I would say this is bad, though I've come to expect the worst of this program, which makes me a little sad.

---

On topic! I like how they doubled the number of digital games and they still mostly suck. Looks like I might get SMW just to get it. =\

be a pretty good bet that come, may 13 that the site will be down due to server overload from everyone who hasn't been able to check rewards all trying to check at same time with that long of a shutdown period between now and then.

Don't like the sound of that update..:/
Troubling..& my buddy just gave me a bunch of points.
At least you can hit platinum / gold if you haven't already and you can always help someone on CAG out passing them a free game*.

* I feel sad I have to type this, but this is not me asking, suggesting, implying or anything of the sort. However, I would not turn down an offer. xD

Instead of dredging up the thread I'll point out here that if you're like me and been putting off picking a digital version of Pokemon from that promo you have to do it by the end of the month.

Edit: never mind I see now you said select not download lol my bad

Yep. I had totally forgotten until I saw something about that Target credit monitoring offer having to be redeemed by the end of the month.

Even if we get new items, I'll just wait to see how Nintendo fucks that up. Like releasing another shirt in children's sizes, making a 3,000 coin figure of the Chorus Men or an all new pack of plastic bookmarks!

if we do im coming back here and saying i told you so lol
I like your odds, since we're guaranteed new games at the very least. xD

hey if they put out another statue for 1500 coins im stocked so im ready lol

I'm hoping there will be another good promo just before the CN year ends. I already hit Platinum and have the code for my 2DS, Disney Magical Kingdom, and Starfox64 3d (TRU clearance find) waiting. Didn't see a need to redeem them yet.

I already hit platinum after buying my wii u & 3DS last year. ^^;
But perhaps I will get a code & drop it here. I'll wait for may & then decide (so hope those new downloadable games are good ones XD).

There are a couple of extra games in Club Nintendo to download now:

Aura-Aura Climber: 100 coins - 3DS

Kirby's Pinball Land: 150 Coins - 3DS

Balloon Fight - 200 Coins - Wii U (shown)

F-Zero X: 200 Coins - Wii/ Wii U

Think they need to update the descriptions:

"For a limited time only until May 5, 2013, Club Nintendo members can get a download ticket for just 150 Coins."

"For a limited time only until January 12th, 2014, Club Nintendo members can get the download code for just 200 Coins."

What the odds of getting the new mario soundtrack added?
Seeing as they've never once released any of Club Nintendo Japan's soundtracks as a redeemable reward, not very likely. Which is too bad, because it's a frigging fantastic album. Still, I make it a point to ask for soundtrack CD rewards with pretty much every survey I fill out, hoping they'll eventually realize how smart my ideas are.

Probably why they took away the physical rewards, to get more people to dump their coins on the download codes that aren't selling.

Also, F-Zero X is pretty good, even if it's a repeat. And it's not jacked up in price like Mario Golf is.

Balloon Fight is laughable though. I hope next month's stuff includes Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask for N64, there's not that many N64 VC games, after all.

The same Nintendo of America that said...

Going off of that, how much do what fans want or say influence your decisions? [Operation Moonfall and Operation Rainfall are cited as examples here.]

I have to tell you—it doesn’t affect what we do.
Sadly, I think it's pretty obvious Nintendo doesn't really care about Club Nintendo surveys, which is why they're almost always the same questions. The only exception are weirder things, which typically have tailor made questions and have effort put forth, but beyond these I would be shocked if Nintendo did anything besides keep track of which bubbles we filled in.

Well you have to imagine that if an actual person goes through the actual survey's it's probably one of the lowest rank interns and they're probably just looking for anything that they can use as a marketing quote. More likely the entirety of it probably goes straight into a database and is never looked at again.

games cases 800 points, posters 1000 points, patches 700 points I could totally imagine Nintendo double the points required for each type of item when the rewards resume

Well, I also just don't get it. I will have to stay up on the 12th to see if i can crack into the store when it comes back.

At least you can hit platinum / gold if you haven't already and you can always help someone on CAG out passing them a free game*.

* I feel sad I have to type this, but this is not me asking, suggesting, implying or anything of the sort. However, I would not turn down an offer. xD
It's honestly not worth the effort of filling out surveys just to get a shitty dollar store pin box, deck of cards, or an old CD many of us already had.

Not really worth it for SMW either, not when I have hundreds in unused points just sitting there.

I've got plenty of CN game codes, make me a decent offer and I can trade what I have. I'm always up for buffing up my Steam/PSN library ;)

I got the zelda game case (I needed a new game case, didn't mind paying the points) & the poster set & I quite like them enough to have justified spending the coins on them. However, I'd be lying if I said I joined the club for anything other than figures, things similiar to the gold nunchuk (which I hate myself for missing), & the XL docks. I kind of figure the fact their rewards seem to suck for us is because Nintendo assumes the fan base in the US is mostly kids & not collectors. At least, this thinking allows me to not be royally pissed about the gold zelda statue on the Europe CN...
I'm just still holding out hope for those XL docks since the green ones go for so much on ebay...

Either you define "decent" and "worst and worst" different than I do or you're horribly mistaken. The original rewards were, if I recall correctly, screensavers, the hat DS case holder thing, DS card holder with styluses, school supplies, mushroom tote bag, star messenger bag and the hanafuda cards. Most of these items lingered on for a while (some are still there I believe) and we started getting new rewards like fans, posters, pins and weird things like shoe laces or a terrycloth. In either case, it's hard to say the program "had" decent rewards when it's giving better items (Yoshi shirt, 3DS XL charger, Luigi figure, Kirby coin last year), new versions of past items (Pikmin tote = Mushroom tote, new poster sets, more practical card cases) and misc things that might appeal to someone (accessory box). The only thing that has gone "down hill" are the platinum rewards, which isn't even 100% true either. Following the figure we got the Japanese badge collection (slightly changed), the really fancy deck of cards or a poster set and finally the OST or another poster set. Sure, they're not the best prizes, but the dip wasn't as vast as much as people simply didn't want some buttons, a deck of cards too fancy to really play with, various posters from various things and an OST for a game thats been out for over a decade.

Just a reminder that the I2Bs for the physical and digital versions of Mario Golf World Tour and Kirby Triple Deluxe expire today.

I hope those Animal Crossing pouches come back next month. I don't think I'd normally get them but I have enough coins expiring at the end of the CN year that it would be the item I'd get the most enjoyment from. I'd also like new rewards showing up but I'm keeping my expectations in check.

i think that you are right, but because the use the general public gives to club nintendo it seems to be only reaching platinum status and not registering games during the year, maybe that´s why a Luigi Statue appeared to be exchanged for coins and not as a platinum reward. in fact platinum or gold rewards are for everyone that reaches that point, but it´s not the same rule for regular rewards. so from an economic point of view it´s more practical to give better prizes in exchange for coins than give the same rewards for all the platinum members that seems to be more and more each year and at the same time force users to register the games and not let them sell the coins or save them for the future, because every montn a lot of CN elegible products appear, and Nintendo obviusly want all the consumer base to buy and register.

Eh, they had those G&W DS games and Hanafuda cards. And playing cards (ok for regular prizes....not Platinum). Those were ok, even if they weren't great. I thought the Mario Hat for Platinum was very neat. But yeah, I was expecting the awards to get better, when if anything they've gotten worse, you can't deny that. I think almost everyone will agree that Hat/Figurine > playing cards/pin set/very, very old CD.

This doesn't have to be hard or expensive for Nintendo. As has been discussed a thousand times before, items like artbooks or CDs/soundtracks for new games are not only good marketing, but good rewards. They are just too damn cheap/lazy/whatever. EoS.
