Ive noticed in my area the GameStops are selling 64gb Vita memory cards.

The associate checked and said that all the gamestops had at least one in stock.

I inspected the package and the card is "brand new" in Japanese packaging (i know because ive imported two 64gb cards) but being sold as Gstop used.

Good chance to go local instead of trying to import.

This exactly. It's as Affa said, economics of scale. Micro SD cards are ridiculously cheap because they're churned out in high quantities, but the Vita cards have smaller runs that cost more per unit to produce. Add to that recouping the R&D cost for them. Doesn't mean I don't think they're still over priced, but I don't think it's too far out of scale.
But it was unnecessary. Sony should have saved themselves AND us by using standard SD card memory just as the 3DS does. Sony doesn't require special Sony memory for it's cameras, no reason whatsoever that the Vita needs to run off this memory. It's the same guts in a different case. It was just another way to make money from it's customers but very short-sighted as it definitely affected that base number of customers.

You sow the wind you reap the whirlwind. This is why the system is gonna die soon if it ain't dead already.
It's a great system. And I don't think sales are in the dead category yet. Plenty of games but the memory issue is just one of a few items holding it back.

All their mistakes started from launch slightly cheaper cards, revenue boost from PS+ add ons & a partnership with a wifi provider to subsidize cost.

1- 4GB cards should`ve never existed wasted resources 8, 16 & 32GB was all that`s needed at launch
2- $450ish PS3/PSV bundle w/8GB card, 3 month PS+ & 2 preloaded games(1 PS3 1 PSV)
3- Cards bundled w/preloaded games, $80 for 32GB w/UC or $60 for 16GB w/Little Deviants or Modnation Racer

Three system launch bundles
Premium Day 1 Pre-order only- 32GB card w/UC preloaded, 6 month PS+ & 3 month free wifi trial.

Premium- 32GB card w/UC preloaded, 3 month PS+ & 3 months free wifi trial

Middle tier- 8GB card w/Little Deviants or Modnation Racer preloaded, 1 month PS+ & 1 month free wifi trial

Will the birthday coupon work on this, or is it strictly games? If you could squeeze 30% off since it's used it doesn't seem too bad.
Don`t think so games only I believe. I wish BB would stop BS`ing & take 20% off accessories too w/GCU would make it alot easier.

I imported micouple dollars off). I sold my 32 for $75 at the time, so doubled my storage for under $20. If you keep an eye one for something like $92 shipped. That's only $7 off your mark. I think I used yesasia.com with a small coupon (a ut at the main import websites for coupons, and sell your 32 at a good time, it's easy to make the switch.

If you wait for the 64 to come to the US, the used market for the 32 will bottom out and it'll cost you more to upgrade since you'll get so much less for your 32. Plus, when it comes to the US it'll likely be the same price as imports ($100ish).
Agreed, got my 32 GB for $65 last summer, sold it for $60 two months ago, paid $100 for 64GB. I'm happy with net price and ability to recoup costs on 32GB and I have plenty of space for a while :bouncy:

It's not just micro SD in a different form factor -- it's high speed (commodity cards are as fast now, but weren't at Vita launch), unique interface, etc.
...What? MicroSD cards were available before the launch of the Vita with faster read/write speeds. Vita memory cards are barely class 6 speed.

Vita is a great system to own now and I hope Sony continues to support it now that the Slim just released.

The biggest gripe is the ridiculous mark up on the memory cards, but if you can find one on discount I say try the Vita out before knocking it.

I've only had to purchase 2 games for the system because the other 25 odd games I have were free via PS Plus. That includes over 10 retail releases. Great bargain system if you have PS Plus especially now that all Sony consoles will be receiving 2 new games every month starting in June.

I agree. Someone is always claiming that there is something "special" about the Vita memory, there isn't.

I can't justify these prices....highway robbers Sony are for the Vita...and they wonder why it doesn't get more adopted....good find though....I'm waiting till these go to about 85 or so (about how much I paid for the 32 gig a while back).
$40 is usually the going price for Class 10 SDHC 64GB SD cards. That's about all I would be willing to pay for this 64GB proprietary card. Shit is almost triple the price...

What horrible prices. I am glad I got a few cards cheap a few months ago. Picked up about 3 4GB ones at Best Buy for $7, got a 16GB from Gamestop for $20, and got a 32 GB one at Best Buy for $45. I do not even own a Vita. I am waiting for the third model to come out. The second has a terrible screen and the first is inferior to the second save for the screen, so I will wait for the third model.

Yup, I mean there's not really much on the Vita that has grabbed my attention to begin with...if there was I'd probably buy one despite my hatred of the cards. But yeah, one of the big reasons I've avoided them is due to their insane memory card prices. "Oh it's for security" blah blah blah, suck it! They're screwing people (YOU) over, period. If it was truly for security I'm not sure why they didn't just make it on board memory of some kind so they could completely control it? Memory is CHEAP nowadays, no reason

I chose to buy one, so not sure THEY did anything. Most edumacated people know what they are getting into before they buy a Vita in the first place.

What is sad?
Hmm, the fact that you spent near the same price of a 64gb card, except spread out on 5 different cards that are going to be a PITA to switch out all the time? Or that you bought all of them and don't have a system yet? Or that you bought them all, don't have a system yet, and think that they are going to release a newer model right after they released the slim. If they are as bad as Matrix would like you to believe then they definitely aren't coming out with another new model so soon, or at all.

That sucks, would have probably picked up a second. Yeah 20% off acc. would be sweet, but wouldn't help here since they dont carry the 64gb cards yet. (or ever)

All this AND the fact that you claim to know that the screen on the new model is worse when in fact are either going by store displays (never seen a Slim on display) OR by online reviews.

At first I thought the same based on reviews, that the Slim screen is inferior. But if you look at the majority of people the Slim screen is better. It reproduces colors more accurately, it doesn't over saturate them like OLED does. OLED makes them pop, but in a way that makes them too colorful, not what developers intended. Plus it is due to the new LCD screen we get a longer lasting battery. Also, I along with others had this issue that in dark areas of games/menues you could see odd discoloration on OLED, that is a known flaw with them, LCD does not have that issue.

The only negative IMO for the new slim is that the 1GB internal memory is rather useless, especially since it can't be used in tandem with a memory card. I know why this is, the Vita is basically mounting the internal storage to the memory card slot. So once a memory card is inserted both storage devices can't be accessed at the same time. It makes sense yes, but I still dislike it.

Also, I wish we had two colors stateside. I can see why we didn't get all the colors Japan had, but I dislike how easily finger prints show on black so a black and a white model would have been appreciated.

I rather deal with expensive Vita memory card than the "account" system with Nintendo even with SD card.

I like how people act like if they buy a Vita buying the biggest memory card available is a requirement.
It makes life a lot easier. After building up 2 years worth of PS+ titles, I easily filled a whole 64 up. And I won't have to go back through my 1000+ item download list looking for the Vita/PSP titles one by one aside from that first time. That was worth it to me.

I wish we could at least sort the DL list by system...This is the reason why I made a spreadsheet with everything I bought and on what account (since I gameshare) so that way I can easily find what account has what and then search for it via the store. Otherwise I'd be lost.

Digital is soooo stupid. 1. you have to pay for the digital storage. 2. you have to pay for the digital download. 3. you have to pay for an internet connection. 4. you have to wait until the download is completed and time value = money. 5. you have to pay for the electricity that the internet connection and your vita are using up while downloading. If you add that all up that's a lot more than buying physical media and if you ever sell your vita you are screwed. Digital download may be the future but it's stupid as hell.

That would be great. I thought I hated the format on PS3, but at least you weren't automatically taken back to the top of the list after you chose to download a title like on the Vita. Something the PS4 definitely got right was doing away with this, but I'd still like a 'sort' or 'search' option. It couldn't be that hard to implement.

They're still screwing you over haha, doesn't matter if you bought one on your own or not. If I give you the puzzle box from Hellraiser and you take it on your own free will I'm still knowingly screwing you over O:)

If that's what you think, then feel free to keep thinking that if it helps you sleep at night. I wasn't thrilled at the proprietary memory or the pricing of it. But I feel that it's more than worth it. If you don't feel that way, then don't buy one.

The 20% discount would have a ripple effect as BB would stock more accessories since they`d sell more of them. Accessories are greatly overpriced anyways just like the PSV memory if they`d been selling thru them with 20% and/or sale + 20% they`d be more willing to stock updated versions too.

To a b&m retailer being able to get you in the door to potentially grab the hardware, software, GCU sub, warranty & accessories would be a goldmine. All those game + LE exclusive controller/headset purchase deal instantly become BB day 1 deals. I can only imagine what the sales of those afterglow controllers, batman ones & the monthly @gamer headset would`ve been with the 20% discount being available.

20% off games, accessories & digital games would then increase the value of the $120 they`re asking for at least they`re both currently under review with sizeable kudo totals. Since neither will require a major system overhaul or huge upfront financial investment large feedback totals will be one of the bigger deciding factors.

47 for getting 20% off accessories

Having a big memory card for Vita isn't the best, especially if you do back-ups to switch PSN accounts. The Vita has atrocious copy speeds from PC -> Vita so splitting it into smaller cards to make that process is better. Took nearly an hour just to copy 7 games back into the Vita when doing account switching...

I don't see on the GS website listing yet. I'm hoping by E3, Sony offers some sorta discount for them. My 32GB is almost full and definitely want to get 2-64GB, unless Sony introduces a 128GB card, then might import it

This was funny thanks for the laugh.

Have you ever calculated how much it cost to take a shit? 1. You have to pay for the food. 2. You have to wait some time before you can do business and time=money. 3. You have to have a toilet to use which is just plain dumb. 4. Water bill. 5. Toilet paper to wipe your ass. Everything in life is just stupid huh? All that wasted money.

Don't forget the water, soap, and towel to....HOPEFULLY wash your hands afterward.

There is a lot of stupidity in this thread. You know you can enjoy a Vita without the biggest memory card? Is a Kindle good only if you have 500 books on it? Is an iPod only good if you have 1600 hours of music on it? I only have a 16GB for my Vita - it's enough to hold a dozen games that are AAA or indie. If you feel the need to have more games on hand, store them onyour PS3 and cycle your library accordingly.

I paid $99 for my Vita, $30 for the memory card, and $30 for a PlayStation Plus subscription. That small expenditure means that I hav more games than I have time to play.

Well, I suppose this is an option for me if Amazon decides to raise the price of the 64GB Vita memory card to $120.  Personally, I would want a 128GB Vita memory card at that price.

It would be nice to have everything I have on Vita on one card.  64GB would be barely enough space to have every digital PSP/Minis/PS1/Vita game I have and also have just enough room to have save files for every game.

I got tired of switching memory cards with my PSP. If it has to be done with the Vita in order for me to save money, then so be it.  I'll settle with like at least two 32GB memory cards.  One for PSP/Minis/PS1/saves and another for the Vita games/saves.

I'm not disagreeing, I didn't see where anyone said you HAD to have the biggest memory card. But I'm having a hard time understanding your logic with the Kindle/iPod reference.

From my personal experience...I have several games that wouldn't fit on a 4gb card by themselves, and tons of combinations that you couldn't get 2 of on an 8gb. So a 16gb for me was out of the question. I pondered a 32, but why pay $60 for that when I could pay +/- $90 for a 64? It was a no-brainer that if I was going to spend that much on it, might as well get the biggest and be done with it. No regrets on that. fuck having to delete and redownload shit all the time, I wouldn't even have a Vita if that was necessary.

Ahhh yusssssssssssssssssssssssssssss $120 for a 64GB SD card even though they're only like $30 for a regular one on Amazon good jub sonnny

yeah, go away Sony.

Very sad because we all know that the 3rd Vita will be using SD memory. :^o

Lol the 3DS XL isn't even close to the Vita in specs/features/quality, please.
Don't be like Chimpster, both the 3DS and Vita are fun. Wouldn't go anywhere without either. They are different but both have fun games now.

You know what is stupid? $30 for 16GB when you can get a SDHC same size class 10 for $10. It's not about size, it's about price.
