PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

I love Sony, but...

Oh sorry, but pretty sure he meant Sony has the best studios for adult gamers.

Definitely. And MS is second. I loved Nintendo growing up, but the vast majority of their games do nothing for me anymore. I primarily play story driven games with realistic graphics, and mainly shooters, AC/GTA type open world games, and WRPGS. Nintendo just doesn't make those types of experiences and the few of their games I still enjoy some like Zelda I can live without as I'm kind of sick of them after playing them from the NES through Wii/3DS.

Since everyone has been wondering what is coming out this year, thought I would run through the IGN list of 2014 releases. Here is a list of those that they currently have set as releasing on PS4 that (when I compare to their other list) will not release on Xbox One in 2014 or are solely console exclusive to PlayStation.

This of course has a few caveats:

  • I did not remove those that are already out, or will be out in 2014, on PS3 or PC
  • These are tentative dates that could change pushing them into 2015.
  • Too lazy to compare these to Nintendo to see if they release there...but nobody has a Wii U anyways, right?
  • Haven't heard of many of these games, so not sure of the overall accuracy or where the dates came from in the first place.
  • Tried to  catch ones I knew were obvious mistakes (such as Minecraft not coming to Xbox one, Bloodborne showing as 2014, etc)
  • I have tried making this list several times and I accidentally delete it all. So I kind of just went through and didn't put thought into some of these as to whether they were PS4 (timed or otherwise) exclusives.
  • Some never had a release date to begin with.
  • Could be more that IGN didn't have.
  • These may be coming to Xbox One/360, but no 2014 date has been announced.

And here's the list. For those that think indies are not real games, don't bother even looking:

Aaru’s Awakening

Air Conflicts: Vietnam Ultimate Edition

Among the Sleep

Apotheon

Blast ‘Em Bunnies

Broforce

Chasm

Citizens of Earth

Counterspy

Pretty much all that.

I havent owned and played a nintendo console since the n64 really. Just dont care about their games in the least, and you had better care about Nintendo games to buy their stuff as that is about all they get. Any multiplat is going to be better on other hardware.

Snap, you're right.

Man, Drake's really old... or maybe it's aging due to stress? I mean, Sully is coming along and he was already pretty old, so I doubt that much time could have past since their last outing.
Drake's not older, just better wrinkle texture technology

Plus it looks like somebody liked it so they put a ring on it

If you haven't played a Nintendo console since the N64, you're not at all qualified to say they're better or worse than Sony or Microsoft.

To imply that Nintendo is only for kids is ignorant and narrow-minded. That's simply a false statement.

Better care about Nintendo-made stuff a lot to justify the purchase of a Nintendo console? Third party games better on Sony and Microsoft systems? You are 100% correct. I was only referring to first party games, as the post I replied to was referring solely to Sony first party games.

All I did was state my opinion... not trying to derail the thread. You don't like Nintendo? I wholeheartedly understand that. But the reasoning does not really jive with that.

I'd also like to reiterate that I certainly didn't knock Sony in the slightest. Again, I was talking first party. There's no question that PlayStation systems have better features and overall game libraries as opposed to Wii/Wii U.

Yupp, coming to Xbox one... when? who knows as they won't even develop it until they are done with PS4. It also looks like it was a pain to port to other systems

I know you have to throw your fanboy spin on it. But that doesn't change what I said it's still coming to the Xbox One and Horseman's list was meant for games not coming to the Xbox One. :wall:

Also anyone saying Nintendo is kids only needs to get a grip. I bet at least 80% of Mario Kart 8's audience is over 16 and in the case of my group we're all over 20. Also that Smash Bros invitational audience all looked pretty old minus a few kids.

How was I putting a Sony fanboy spin on it, I was backing up what you said by saying yes it was coming to Xbox one and that it wasn't even an exclusive, just having a litte bit harder time putting it together due to the engine it runs... Wow, talk about angry MS fanboyism changing my nice comment to that? really!?!

Yeah, Nintendo definitely isn't kid only. Just very kid friendly. That, and their focus on gameplay first, just doesn't jive with my interests which lie in story driven games with realistic graphics for the most part. Same with their MP focus with stuff like Mario Kart and Smash Bros that just aren't much fun single player when I'm a 95% of the time single player gamer and almost never do any local MP.

I don't lack interest in Nintendo because they're "kiddy". I lack interest as they just don't make the types of games I enjoy playing since my interests shifted from gameplay focused stuff like platformers, racers and fighting games to narrative driven shooters, open world action games and WRPGs.

TwistedShade you threw my name out in the Xbox thread as being negative, but wow you may want to take a look in the mirror especially in this thread and read your comments especially since Sony's presser.

It appears to me that these conferences were subjective, since I prefer Far Cry 4 (game of show for me), Mortal Kombat X, and Batman to Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Witcher, and The Division I liked what Sony showed from 3rd party gameplay better plus I know I'm getting all those games on the PS4 anyway.  Since I'm excited to buy a PlayStation TV and a white DS4 I liked the hardware announcements where Microsoft had none.  I liked Sonys indies better than what Microsoft showed.  I'm equally as excited for Halo MC collection as I am for Last of Us remastered.  I liked that Sony announced a game that was downloadable that night and while Microsoft gave a free track in Forza I couldn't care less because I don't own Forza.  Everything else was a wash but as you can see I preferred the Sony conference because it had more things for me.  This was clearly not the case for you, but it doesn't mean you need to keep trying to hammer home your point of view which has now been going on for nearly 2 days now.

Going in to E3 everyone said Microsoft had more to prove since they are the one lagging in sales, also Spencer did them no favors by overhyping the event, and since these conferences were about equal it could be viewed as a loss for Microsoft when you look at it from that perspective.

Didn't want to quote you Horseman otherwise I'd waste space, but Oddworld is coming to the Xbox One just not until after the PS4 version releases.
Sorry, I should have clarified it a little better. I was trying to include games that wouldn't be on Xbox One in 2014. I would not be surprised if many of these games arrived on the Xbox One eventually.

I know they just recently said Oddworld was coming to Xbox, but since I didn't know when exactly, I included it on the list.

I thought Sony showed off the better 3rd parties games at E3. But it doesn't really matter as it is subjective like RiPPn mentioned and they're 3rd parties games so it should be on the Xbox One too.

That Sony touted indie games as 'PS4 Games'. That really irks me.
Are they games? Are they on PS4? then they are PS4 games... doesn't mean you have to play them.. Some of us find a lot of enjoyment in the indie games, and some of those bring even more enjoyment and fun then some "AAA" games

Indies are becoming big players and all 3 are promoting them. They have replaced the mid tier developers. I see no problem with it but at the same time I understand the sentiment that you didn't spend $400 or $500 to play indie games. That said, the two most exciting games at this E3 are both indie games (No Man's Sky and Ori and the Blind Forest).

I think Sony dedicated under 10 minutes to indies and also Microsoft and Nintendo are pushing indies too, so what is your point?
Like I said, I have nothing against indie games. But had I known that all PS4 was going to have for its first year were indie games, I probably wouldn't have bought the system.

Just my opinion, no need to get all defensive.

If this means some JRPG's that could come state-side, then I am all in for the games they could show at TGS:

http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/06/11/lots-of-ps4-games-by-japanese-1st-and-3rd-parties-coming-at-tgs-the-last-guardian-progressing-fine/

This time we were focused on introducing titles for the North American region, but of course about Japanese games first parties and also third parties are developing a large number or them. We should be able to show you the latest in that area at Tokyo Game Show 2014.

you were the one crapping on indies... good news for you is it is the same story for Microsoft as they too realize the value of indies. In the past there have been b tier games that no one really played any ways because they were bad. Publishers aren't doing those games anymore opening the way for Developers who aren't backed by big money. The games are still great and I hope you haven't ignored those games simply on the fact that they are considered "indies",

Every launch is like this with a lack of games, I feel this launch for both systems is better than in past on sheer volume thanks to indies filling the gaps! I have way to many games to fill my time with all thanks to indies with AAA games sprinkled in.

Eh? I merely stated an opinion and clearly stated that I wasn't interested in indie games on a commercial console. I never disrespected indie games in any way. I'm not sure how that is defined as 'crapping on'. I actually play many indie games, but mostly on the PC.

I swear, people nowadays think whenever someone that doesn't agree = crapping on them. This community has gone so downhill.

My apologies. I read the article you posted and saw the developer did indeed say it was harder to port due to using Unity, I just thought you were blowing smoke.

Well people keep posting articles and starting Sony versus Microsoft arguments, I'm perfectly allowed to voice my own opinions towards them the same you seem to do anytime it starts in the Xbox forums.

Out of curiosity I decided to click the link and check your PSN Profile.....out of 86 games you've played 5 Indie Games. So are you yourself included in that bracket you listed or is that all talk?

You said indie games werent PS4 games!... that is what I was talking about

Nintendo keeps making moves that continue to push me away.  I have never been a real fan of their gimmicky attempts at gaming.  I still see no value in 2 screens on a handheld.  I never liked motion controls.  I leave the Wii U tablet on its charging stand and use a pro controller.  I think Mii's are ugly and archaic.  And if they start putting the new Amiibos in all their games I'm tapping out.

No not at all... most of the stuff I am currently playing are free indie games. However in the last few days I did purchase Sound Shapes, and I have Limbo, Skull Girls, Pixel Junk, and trine. The problem is I don't have enough time to put towards these games, but I can still see the benefit that they bring. Just because they aren't on my profile doesn't mean I don't believe in indies.

Sound Shapes is published by Sony and according to Wikipedia SCE Santa Monica helped work on it which doesn't qualify it as an Indie Game.

And I'm just a little confused because if they're not on your Profile you haven't played them yet, I even checked Sony's official site and they aren't on there either. But even then you just listed 4 more games so bring that up to 9 total.

Noticed you bashed another guy in a different thread because he said Indie Games sucked (His opinion) and yet you've barely touched enough Indie Games to act like you're some huge supporter.

In that sense, I'm going to have to say that no, they are not 'PS4' games. They need to be labeled as something else such as 'PSN Indie' or 'PSN Arcade' games. This is because Sony has already established that commercial PS games are games that take full advantage of the power of the console(for the most part) and calling indie games PS games would bring confusion to the market. Just because Hotline Miami is on the PS4 doesn't make it a 'PS4 Game'. It's merely an 'indie game on the PS4'.

Like I said, I don't have a ton of time for games... I finish one game and then move on now.... I can still say I "like " something without being completely covered in indie games on my profile.

Also what the hell is with everyones definition of an indie game?! Thought most people said it was lower priced, shorter, downloadle games. isn't that sound shapes. What is your deal seriously. I like what I have seen from indie games, and indie games that I have played have been great fun for a low price. I counted 8 on my profile, plus the 5 more i mentioned... I think I can say whether I like the idea of indies.

Then what about Resogun? That is an indie, yet it takes full advantage of the PS4? Outlast is considered an indie and lumped in? I just think everyone shouting against indies are quite ignorant in saying they are not games or not PS4 games or whatever. It is a game, it is playable on the PS4, it is a ps4 game by definition!

You're absolutely right. You can say whatever the hell you want to about how much you like Indie Games. What you can't, or rather shouldn't be doing is downplaying and crap talking anyone who says Indie Games aren't worth there time, or aren't that interesting. Especially when you've already made it clear you don't play them that much.

I'm not disagreeing with you liking Indie Games. I'm disagreeing with you talking crap to people who don't.

Actually the very definition of an Indie Game is one that is worked on by itself without big publisher funding and Sony funded Resogun. I think some people's problems are that a lot of people (Myself included) see a lot of Indie Games as being crappy games that can't stack up to big AAA titles.

Don't get me wrong games like Minecraft, Terraria, Shadow Complex, Dayz, and more are a lot of fun but I honestly can't say I'd play any of them except maybe Dayz over something like Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, Call of Duty, or such and such. Now obviously that's my own opinion, but again that is indeed my opinion to make.

I never heard of that game so I took a quick look at the video. To me that game doesn't really take full advantage of the PS4 at all. It looked more like Super Stardust HD to me which was PS3-ish quality.

And if what you say is true, then why are indie games not in direct competition with commercial games when it comes award season?

Nintendo has great first party stuff but doesnt appeal to me in the least. Certainly not enough to buy any of their consoles since I was a kid and the n64 was released. Dont see how me not owning anything by them invalidates my opinion that their games skew towards a younger audience, but ok.

That's the thing, though- that wasn't the point you were making in the posts I responded to and quoted. You made it sound like adults couldn't enjoy Nintendo games. I understand that they don't appeal to you, but I've learned through experience that making judgments about games without playing them can be unwise.

Also, saying that Nintendo doesn't appeal to most gamers is ridiculous to me. The Wii was the best selling console of the last generation. But most of the first party Nintendo games have had sales numbers comparable to first party Sony and MS games, and even big third party games. Nintendo appeals to a lot more people than you think.

I still love such a wide variety of games that I feel it's necessary to own every system to play all the good stuff... even though I haven't been able to pick up an Xbox One yet. Soon.

I want to contribute something in this post that is PlayStation 4 related, so I will ask if anyone else got an invite to the Hardline beta. I'm not sure how often they're sending out invites, if they're even doing another wave at this time, but hopefully more of you get a chance to play.

Wii selling last Gen was nothing to do with the core gamer audience, hell my Mom even bought one. Wii Bowling and goofy Wii Fit.

I still stand by Nintendo doesnt appeal to mature gaming audiences and that is why Wii U is a flop. The casuals havent bought it in droves like the last one.

Soon as I get my hardline beta I hope to get on and shoot you in the head ;)

Seems like a couple of things missed the spotlight including Drive Club.

Quick Google Searching shows it got an E3 Trailer for the upcoming Alpha on Steam Early Access. Watching the trailer makes me think the game still needs a lot of polish and they didn't want to show off any details until it gets more work done to it.
