The 2013/2014 NBA Thread (LBJ is a Cav)

Perfect (except Reigns is the one being shot to the moon while Wade is, well....)

Jeremy Lin has been traded to the Lakers

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 2m
The Rockets finalizing Jeremy Lin, a future first-round pick and other draft considerations to the Lakers, league source tells Yahoo.
Now the Pelicans need to dump around 100k in salary to take on Asik. So Parsons and Bosh to Houston is likely happening

Get Lin in a room with old Steve Nash footage.

I guess that's the backup guard. Still need another wing player. Another big or two (or three if Gasol leaves? Just give that man a 2 year contract so he can ride off into the sunset with Kobe.) Jordan Hill is still on the market. Luol Deng probably will find better opportunities elsewhere but a man can dream. Time to stop worrying about trying to get Kevin Love.

The Cavs should just play hard ball for Love. He's not resigning with Minnisota, so why should they trade the farm to get him, they have the leverage.

Not really. They have him under contract for another year, so there is no rush to move him right this minute. They can trade him during the year leading up to the deadline or wait until FA and do a sign and trade.

Plus, there will be other suiters for his services. I would really look to get Wiggins and Bennett. Screw the draft pick, just get a sure thing and a young project.

Yeah, it's not like Cleveland is the only team looking to get Love. Boston should still be in the running, for one. They just have to bide their time and fish around for the best deal. I don't think anyone expected Orlando to come out of the Howard trade with the best return a year later, but they managed it.

I was reading tweets from Heat fans, and was thinking that they were taking this in a more classy manner than a lot of Cavs fans did four years ago. Then I saw this:

Pelicans have traded for Alonzo Gee from the Cavs. They will waive him to make room for the Asik trade. All the Rockets need is a commitment from Bosh

If Wiggins is going to be as good as expected, just stick with him. Love is not Karl Malone.

Dallas should just resign Marion and carter. They should then go get Mo Williams and Isiah Thomas.

That team would be deep 1-9 or 10 and would be a tough out in the playoffs.

I think it also has a lot to do with all of those bandwagon Heat fans just saying, "Eh, whatever." rather than Cleveland fans who actually gave a shit.
The playoffs probably helped too. Fans saw that Dwayne Wade was practically done and that LBJ had to basically take on the Spurs by himself in the Finals. That probably cemented it to the fans that the team was going to break up.

Also, Miami's fanbase is far more even-keeled than Cleveland's.

Yeah, his letter touches on the uproar last time:

"Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from Northeast Ohio. It’s where I walked. It’s where I ran. It’s where I cried. It’s where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart. People there have seen me grow up. I sometimes feel like I’m their son. Their passion can be overwhelming. But it drives me. I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them when I can. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. I do now.

To make the move I needed the support of my wife and my mom, who can be very tough. The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the jerseys being burned -- seeing all that was hard for them. My emotions were more mixed. It was easy to say, “OK, I don’t want to deal with these people ever again.” But then you think about the other side. What if I were a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react? I’ve met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. We’ve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. I’ve made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?"

He was aloof about not understanding what he meant to people over the course of those seven seasons in Cleveland, but now he does and he's taken that into consideration with how he announced it.

Bosh will be re-signing with the Heat for 5 years $118 million. Really shocked, I thought he'd go for the rings.

Lakers re-sign Nick Young for 4 years $21.5 million. Lol Lakers

Source?

As, a Heat fan I'm not too surprised, you could tell by his attitude in the NBA finals that he was tired of carrying the Heat. I wish him well, but I don't think the Cavs will do much next year.

If the Bulls can get Mello, than they would be the team too beat in the East. The Pacers are also going to be a tough out, not to mention the stacked western conference.

Chris Bosh is finalizing an agreement to return to Miami on a five-year, $118M deal, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

With Bosh back, Miami is trying to complete shorter deals with Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem, league sources tell Yahoo.

They needed a wing/SF, and everybody is getting overpaid this offseason. Would have preferred the 4th year being a team option and it's a far cry from Melo, but they still need to field a team for next year. Plus I wouldn't say Young was underperforming at all last season. Good guy to have coming off the bench and spot Kobe some minutes. Him and Meeks were two of the few bright spots and Meeks is getting paid almost as much for only 3 years.

I still would like to see them pursue a guy like Deng with their remaining money. Focus on having clean books in 2016 instead of room for only one max level but no roster next summer.

Edit: Maybe Stephenson if the math works out? Use Kobe to keep his crazy in line?

PS: Gasol signing imminent? Place your bets.

Lakers just gave Jordan Hill a 2 year $18 Million contract. This overpaying is getting out of hand

Isaiah Thomas going to be S&T to the Suns, 4 years $27 Million

For sources check out Woj, pretty much the GOAT at NBA news

Yeah, now that is overpaying. But if that was what he got then you know someone else out there was offering a similar deal.

Being tall still pays the bills in the NBA. Wonder if this means Gasol is to be the center (probably on his own 2 year deal). Gasol, Sacre, Hill, Randle frontcourt. Not spectacular but they should get some decent rebounding from the PF position.

Finally at long last the nba can finally stop rigging the draft for Cleveland.  All though if somehow bulls land gasol+Stephenson/melo  and derrick returns to form, they actually become the team with free finals trip in the east.  So is there video yet of the 4 total fans in Miami burning jerseys yet.  Dan Gilbert should be counting his lucky stars for being a dipshit, burning bridges with clients and they still end up coming back only because they have more love for the city than the team.

Also before i forget:

LOLROCKETS. striking out left and right like James Harden trying to read a defensive play.

I always figured if Lebron were to leave, would Wade maybe start thinking about going home himself at a discount and now Woj says that's a possibility.

Ugh  i can just see all the shitty montages with the Diddy song playing now in the next week in regard to today.

Well, Lin should do quite well being reunited with Mike D'Anto.....

Oh, shit.

And I don't know if Bennett can be redeemed, but Minnesota would be foolish if their negotiations didn't start and end with at least Wiggins. Cavs have enough first overall picks. Throw someone else one for once.

This goes into the (I think Bill Simmons's) philosophy of never trading a dollar for 4 quarters. Bennett and a late first rounder? Get out of here, Cleveland. (Not that Love is gonna make it easy for the T'Wolves. Zero playoff appearances and being a pain on the way out? Oh, how they must wish they had received some of that patented David Stern lottery magic that year instead of Chicago.)
I don't think it's too late for Bennett to turn it around. He had a bad start due to an injury and being out of shape while missing Summer League and Pre-Season games, so he went into the season in the worst possible way. He started turning it around later on last season once he got more playing time and had some nice games before an injury sidelined the rest of his season. From what I've heard, he's been working out and has lost weight, so he should be in much better shape to do better this season.

Yup def rigged draft so they could get all those picks...Sad thing is Lebron is never going to win in Cleveland..so thanks for the 2 rings Enjoy never winning again with THAT owner who trashed you along with that fan base..

Vince Carter has agreed to a three-year, $12M deal with Memphis, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

Did not expect that, figured he'd retire as a Maverick

Dallas reached out about Wade, i truly doubt thats even remotely happening
Hope not. It was all the phantom fouls on Wade that robbed us of the title in 06...

Anyways just getting home from today's Summer League games...The Cavs/Bucks game was easily the best and had the arena the most packed with people and NBA stars. The Wiggins/Parker matchup was obviously the one to watch, but Giannis Atentenkoumpo (sp?) and Anthony Bennett tore it up as well. I was impressed with Bennett in particular. He was moving a lot better than I expected, although he did look fatigued a bit early in the game. Good to see him on the rise though.

On a side note, I managed to get Jae Crowder, Devin Harris, Darrell Armstrong, Ricky Ledo, Eduardo Najera, Gal Mekel and Bernard James' autographs :) The perks of sitting in the front.

Damn, wanted Vinsanity till he retired, and heard talks were going really well...that sucks. :???: That means we should be bringing back Marion now.

Pau Gasol, Chicago working to complete an agreement, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Should have gone to the Spurs =/

Ray Allen should be next

If you committed before july 10 can you reneg on the signing?. One would think Granger and mcbob no longer want their deals since lebron is no longer on the team

The most amazing part of that gif is it looks like a Lebron crab dribble.

Also, sad to see Pau go. But maybe Chicago feels like sending a 1st rounder over in a sign and trade. Or a second, at least. (But not Boozer by himself. They're crazy if they think that's a deal anyone would take unless they were trying to hit the cap floor). Test if that Bulls owner is willing to spend on a Boozer amnesty or else give up an asset or two to save money.
