So OTP will be random lobbies, but can support 6v6. Hopefully they can patch in a basic team system, and stats. I know it wont happen, but still.  Just sucks he doesn't answer the eashl time table questions, just that they will make it bigger and better.

 
Yeah, with that "we have a vision of bigger things for the future" hyperbole shit, he might as well run for political office.

And again, I say...they can recognize that removing several game modes would upset the customers (considering they tried to hide these facts for so long), and they're asking that people be patient as they "build a new future of NHL". But yet...$60, please. fuck off. EA doesn't need us to fucking crowd fund their game. It's different on PC where you have a four man team with no publisher making a game.

NHL 15 is essentially going to release as a Steam Early Access game...for $60...and we're just supposed to trust that they'll make it better. Piss the hell off, EA. It's ridiculous that they want us to feel sorry for them. Where the hell is all that HUT money going???

I put like 100 hours into nhl 14 from just those two lol

Well, there's Be A GM. I would imagine that's similar enough for him.

I mentioned this in the PS4 thread, but what's really scary is there won't be a mode where you don't have to rely on the AI now. So, that "Vision AI" better be fucking amazing or this game is going to tank.

Yeah, technically it is different (pretty sure they used to just have regular "season mode" too) since some people don't want to bother with contracts, free agents, draft, ticket prices, and all that other stuff. But I think a lot of it can be set to auto in the options anyway...so it basically becomes the same thing.

It's just crazy thinking the game is like 90% single player now. HUT and versus just seem like nothing in terms of online play. Anybody who spends a dime on HUT this year is a shill, man. Don't support this nonsense.

EDIT - It's even funnier now thinking about NHL 94 Anniversary mode not being in the game. Like they're sitting around going "Well, I know nobody gives a shit about this mode...but fuck them! Let's take it out too!"

Destiny beta sucked. Guess I'll stick to Madden and Diablo 3 for now until NHL hits 30 used and has OTP. Even then, everybody will be picking the Kings or Rangers. I guess the plus side is line changes though.
 
They can't even patch glitch goals. How am I supposed to believe them when they say they can patch in a whole game mode?

Ha, that's what you think. People on the EA forums already requested that they turn off line changes for OTP so people can at least play as one player the entire game...instead of just being locked in at a position and playing as four different players. Rammer responded and said "we'll definitely consider that".

Exactly. If they had this much trouble getting more than 1v1 online gameplay, any patched in OTP is likely to be a trainwreck. Think of how laggy the games with US/Canada were already. Now, they're admitting they don't have a good grasp on what they're doing. It's probably going to get worse before it gets better. Really sad how far this series has fallen. I just hope it stops receiving all these phony accolades and people finally see it for what it has become.

It makes no sense to work on the game for two years, fail to deliver major game modes that everybody loves, and THEN even take the liberty of removing other game modes because "people weren't playing them enough". If they knew they weren't going to have EASHL and GM Connected, they definitely should have left NHL 94 Anniversary and Online Shootout just to fill out the game a little bit. And if programming those modes in was beyond their ability, then they're just majorly inept and need to be replaced.

I posted this analogy on the EA forum, but it's like an ice cream shop giving people 3 scoops for $1, until one day they decide to only give 2 scoops for $1. If people don't complain and their sales numbers don't drop, do you think they'll ever give 3 scoops again? No freaking chance in hell. EA is counting on this being the only hockey game in town being enough for it to not matter. If people allow it, this will be the new normal. I hope to God people aren't that sheepish.

I posted that yesterday as well Rob. Got buried with the EA hate. We should give OTP a try Friday night. 

Edit: The people not wanting line changes are idiots, Its integral to the sport. One bad line change can change the whole entire game. Sigh.....idiots.

Also, OTP...umm...why? lol. We'll still have EASHL for NHL 14. The really interesting thing will be seeing how "close" OTP is for XBox One. A lot of people asked why they didn't just delay the game a month on next gen like MLB The Show did. Most likely it's because they're not as close as they'd like you to believe...and saying that might save some sales.

Somebody else mentioned too that usually right after the game launches, the devs take a vacation since they've been working hard all year. Whether or not you believe anything will be different is a matter of opinion, but a decent case can be made that X1 might not see even basic OTP until around Christmas.

And even then, without lobbies, it's going to be a PITA trying to get into the same room as your friends ("1,2,3 go!" over the drop-in menu). And you know how playing with randoms is. Just imagine randoms who don't have to worry about their skater grade. I'm not trying to be a downer, but realistically, they've got a lot of freaking work to do.

On the positive side, EASHL in NHL 14 should pick back up again. And if things change and NHL 15 on X1 is worth buying a month later, I'll get it used and save $15-$20.

But with line changes they won't be able to play the whole game as a 93 OVR player.  They would have to learn how to play other styles of hockey.   The HORROR!!!!!!!

Hmm...that's a good price. I still haven't finshed the first one though. I might hold off till the winter sale since a lot of games are coming out in the next couple months and my DK2 will be here on Friday. Granted, EA just saved me some money with NHL 15 being a piece of shit. But I have no idea how the whole WWE 2K15/The Crew/Project Cars/Forza Horizon 2 situation will play out, haha. And whenever the hell the American Truck Simulator beta opens up, I'll most likely be all over that. Going to be a crazy fall/winter.

 
Just canceled my NHL preorder from Amazon.  Guess I will have to find an online team in FIFA if you guys don't get it.

I mean...I've considered it. I just seriously know nothing about soccer. Even when we played FIFA 13...I had no clue what I was doing. I didn't know where I was supposed to be...or even what I was supposed to be doing. When we started in NHL 09, I didn't really know the finer points of hockey...but I at least knew what I should be trying to do. With soccer, I don't even know the positions. I'm like somebody's mom trying to play soccer, lol.

If we were going to go that route, I'd almost rather get dumbass EA Access (or just find a cheap used copy of FIFA 14, I guess) and play that. I just can't see spending $60 on a game that amounts to a Chinese encyclopedia for me, haha. :)

Or, I'd even be more on board with getting Horizon 2 at launch and having "race nights" or something (I would suggest WWE 2K15...but racing is probably more universally liked than wrestling). Really, I'd suggest NBA 2K15...but we know how Alan feels about that, lol.

Yeah, I considered FIFA as well, though I'd rather do the Access thing than buy FIFA 15 personally. And yeah, soccer confuses me as well. As I just said to a co-worker, does FIFA still have offisides? Yeah, I'm out.

I was thinking about Horizon 2. With no NHL and no Evolve in October, that's looking more likely.

 
Up to 24 players competitive in Garden Warfare and 2-4 for the Co-op horde mode type.  I have Horizon 2 ordered as I loved the first one.  I already downloaded Fifa 14 from Access and will be getting 15 so I will have both.

I almost didn't use that link because it was the dummies website but it really was the best explanation of things without being extremely long and overly in depth.

I will have to check out that link in the morning.  Have really been looking forward to a sale on Spintires.

 
I've got Fifa paid off but the off sides is really easy. Great thing about Fifa is, if you want better passing, we'll you pass more. Want to have a great shot? Score more goals. I love the way the leveling up works in Fifa. U also got Diablo 3 which we could have a blast with but it's 4 player co-op.

Soccer and hockey really aren't too different. In soccer, there's more emphasis on not playing outside of your position, and more emphasis on passing (cycling). Shots are much fewer in soccer. And offsides still is similar. Basically, the last defender is the blue line. If a pass is made, the attacker can't be ahead of the blue line at the moment the pass is made, but one the ball leaves the passers foot, the attacker can be past the blue line

II still don't have a Xbone, so 2K5 night could still work for you...though I would personally call it Garbage Day :p

Also, I missed the suggestion of NBA 2k15. Wasn't planning on getting that, as I have 2k14 on the X1 and I'm content with that. Basketball isn't an every year type of game for me. You know, like NHL used to be.

 
Apparently NBA 2K15 is fully featured on PC this year......yeah I don't think I can turn that down.  I'm probably going to get FIFA 15 as well, and Madden may happen too.  I'm kind of "on-tilt" after this whole NHL business lol.

Yeah, I'm not sure how long GMG will have Spintires on sale. It's been on sale since 8/18...but I finally caved on it last night once I saw that somebody is working on a cockpit view mod and even though it doesn't have wheel support yet, you can just run x360ce and the G27 will work just fine.

The game works really well with a 360 controller though. I played a little bit earlier and drove through a freaking lake. It has that visceral feeling like Next Car Game where you're like "am I supposed to be doing this? No. But I CAN!!!" lol. And running over small trees in a big truck isn't bad either. Just something fun about being a destructive asshole. :lol:

Yeah, I think I started to understand the rules decently well when we played FIFA 13. It's more knowing the techniques and when to use what in different situations. To me, it all amounted to "kick the ball", haha.

Also...like you said, you don't have an XB1 anyway. Is FIFA 15 (or really, FIFA 14 if most would rather go that route) enough to make you get one...or are some people talking XB1 and others talking Steam here? lol

Ugh...I just downloaded the FIFA 14 demo and yeah...I think I might feel about soccer how Alan feels about basketball. I get so mad when they take the ball away that I just go tackle the person and get a penalty. Like...I moved the ball all the way down this long ass field...and you just take it away from me.

I can see the way the offense would flow...and I see where passing lanes open up...but I don't know why I'm doing what I'm doing. And the announcers are annoying. And it just makes me want to punch things. I feel like I could do a 10 Reasons Why Any Sport Is Better Than Soccer list, lol :lol:

1. If I wanted to watch a bunch of foreigners running, I'd just go to the Arizona/Mexico border.

Its a possession game. Some times you need to go back to go forward. You also just can't be sprinting non stop. Also have to use the through pass to get someone ahead. I love it, but I also play nightly with my buddies club.

I don't understand soccer at all, but I usually enjoy the video games. Even PES 2014 became enjoyable after a learning period. I downloaded FIFA 14 with EA Access, and I plan to try it out this weekend.
 
Sooo...Shea Weber did this to the boards in practice today with a slap shot. Glad that those just get blocked for breakaways in EA's version of NHL...
