Official NHL Not 15 (14) Discussion/CAG Team Thread - Headsets On Pants Off! New Team!

We should do a GM league where we all play on the same team again.
I'd be up for that...but can we not stack the team this time? That was the biggest thing that put me off about it was we raped the entire league of all the best players. I mean, I could understand getting maybe a couple players off our favorite teams...so we're not just playing as the Kings or something. But the trades should make sense and be fair too. I don't really want to turn on God Mode and just go to town.

Wow...the Indie Gala - August Heat bundle just added Lifeless Planet as a bonus. I got in on the bundle during a CAG Happy Hour sale for like $1.75 (I was mostly interested in Leisure Suit Larry, haha). But Lifeless Planet is a great bonus. I've been curious about that one.

That's like Minecraft. I'd you played on the 360, the XB1 version is only $5. That is the way to really love your fans. but you know Rammer.

Well, free is better than $5, haha. I guess the biggest argument is how many people are actually going to need to have Destiny on both systems? It's probably going to appeal the most to the group of people who haven't upgraded yet, but maybe plan to within the next year. Still though...they could have just beat their chests and said "people can just buy it again". Instead, they decided to be decent, not try to con people, and make the game an enjoyable experience. Meanwhile, Rammer and crew just keep trying to sweep as much shit under the rug as possible.

Somebody on OS raised another good point....yeah, they finally had to come clean about EASHL and GM Connected (because they got caught), but the only reason we know about this other stuff is because of early access. And it just makes it feel like "Shhh...maybe they won't notice!" Just so damn dumb.

I would say this is Madden 64 levels of crap.
Madden 64 was a good game. They just didn't have the NFL team licenses for that version, so no official team names or logos. I think Acclaim/NFL Quarterback Club 98 had some exclusive licensing deal. EA did get the NFLPA license on N64 that year, at least.

I was a fool and got QB Club since it looked pretty and had official teams* but I remember having a lot more fun with Madden 64 that year. Of course, if you're comparing Madden 64 to PlayStation Madden at the time, then PSX clearly won thag.

qb club was a blast with qb challenge thing

New Oculus announcement, apparently, they're partnering with Samsung for mobile VR.

Based entirely on the Note 4...I guess this is the 3DS to the regular Rift's Wii U, lol. Not as powerful (obviously), only 3DOF tracking...but portable and wireless, and self contained. Part of me wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being more popular than the regular Rift, even with weaker graphics and being completely based around Android. It's more the type of thing general consumers could pick up and use since it's basically going to have a VR OS built into it.

I'll still take the PC Rift though just for having more freedom and being able to use mods and user made content. And like a few people mentiioned, if you ever used this Samsung Rift out in public you'd be asking for trouble anyway. The biggest advantage I see it having is being easier for people to use. "Not as good, but easier to use" probably does win out the majority of the time.

So, I had a chance to buy a Wii U on Craigslist for 120. Guy just didn't want it and wanted the cash. Had a few games. Annndd I backed out. I just can't see buying one for maybe two games. I want one but I don't if that makes sense.

WiiU is a lot of fun. Mario Kart, Wii Party U, Mario 3D World, ZombieU. 120, depending on the games, is a great deal. But I understand that want one/not want one rationale.

Makes total sense. I would love a Wii U. I just feel like you have to either really, really be interested in those types of games...OR have a tremendous amount of free time...OR not care if you waste a lot of money (or all of the above, lol). There's just so many games out these days...and when you factor in handhelds...it's just too much.

And the games themselves are soooo long now (and usually, they need to be to justify the price). For a game like Madden or Skyrim...what are you supposed to do? Play for two hours and be like "Wooo...I played Skyrim!" haha. Nobody has that much time. I hate that I'm skipping out on Sony and Nintendo games, but I'm trying to not BS myself either.

It was for the Wind Waker edition with Mario Kart 8 disc and Wind Waker and Super Mario Bros U downloaded on it. That rationale though. Ugh. Decisions

I prefer to play on my Wii U so I can utilize the Off TV Play feature. With a wife and two kids under 5, I rarely have time to just sit by myself in front of a TV. It's much easier to just play off the Wii U tablet while keeping an eye on the kids. I just wish more 3rd party publishers supported it. The lack of hockey on it is very annoying.

Yeah, that is a great deal. I basically grew up on Nintendo games, even though my first console was an Atari system. I absolutely love first party Nintendo titles.

Also, anyone want to play NHL tonight? We can even get started on a GM connected thing we briefly talked about. Just use random rosters or something.

Yeah, if they're going to be able to have all of that added by October, they really should have just delayed the game. It still wouldn't have had EASHL and GM Connected...but they could have explained it better. It's going to be so weird how much of the game will be coming from patches. I still say I'll pay for the game when the game is finished. If that's in October or later...that's fine with me. I'm not giving them "good faith" money.

I can't (well actually I can) believe that they are touting the fact that they are adding the 3 stars of the game to this in an upcoming patch. They are really grasping at straws here...

Too little too late to start playing the "we are going to give you guys updates so that you know what's up" card. Let's see if they keep that same line of communication for 16.

I was thinking about this the other day. They spent all this time on 12-player collisions and what for? How often to more than 2-4 players collide on the ice?

I can play for a short while tonight.

I think I forgot to bring it up, but I did play 5 Nights demo a week or so ago.
I died on the first night :(
Didn't really know what I was doing though, wasted a lot of power on the screens. I recorded it with shadow play, but my voice audio is really low. Just a quick "uh oh... Oh Jesus!" right before I die. Might upload it for the lulz

Exactly. It's almost like they ONLY focused on frivolous features this year. Jerseys, arenas, 12 player collisions. The game really could have been fine without all of those things. Even the commentary and presentation...while long overdue (and really, more of a sign of their laziness over the past 6-7 years)...isn't really a game changer.

And I would wager that if fans knew they were going to have to choose between those things and EASHL, GM Connected, simming to your next shift, editing rosters, participating in the All-Star Game, fantasy rosters, drafting your own players, etc. there is not one damn person on the entire planet who would have said "Yeah...get rid of that stuff. I just want new commentary."

Again, it just speaks volumes for how incredibly out of touch they are.

Also, I've lost track of which NHL 15 hate article has been posted and which hasn't, lol. But here's Polygon's take on it...which poses some really excellent questions of "WHY?" in regards to missing features.

Haha, that could be amusing. Yeah, I only messed around with the demo too. I might pick up the full game in this bundle though. Not sure if they'll do a Happy Hour for it, but even $1.89 is a pretty good price...even just for Freddy.

Not that my attendance was likely to be expected, and you're going to hate me for this, but... I will be playing NHL 15. Due to the free Forza 5 weekend, I have played less than 2 hours of NHL 15 through EA Access. Tonight is the last night for that.

From my experience with Madden 15, you can keep playing the trial until your 6 hours runs out even if that extends beyond the release date.

As long as you're not buying NHL15 :p

Just realized I had my time zones off in my head, probably wont be on after 12 midnight EST, so I might have to sit out like Gary

Haha, so awesome! It's kind of funny seeing how people play the game for the first time, and then when they get to Night 5, they're just systematic and have a specific "defense routine" down. I've read several people say the game even becomes more annoying than scary because the characters just have their patterns. So each night, you're just trying to guard against the patterns quicker and quicker. Still a very cool concept for a horror game though.

Haha, somehow...I think that's still marginally better than what they would do before. The LD at least tries to make a play and go for a hit. If the RD hadn't spun in circles like a damned idiot, he would have been there to back him up. That was like one of those plays where the defensemen aren't communicating and just get all crossed up. But I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg too.

Also, I have to say, I hate how large the presentation banner is at the top of the screen. For the first part of that video, it really gets in the way and you can see how it would be easy to get confused with players dropping the puck back and the banner switching from solid to transparent and back again. But hey...gotta show off that new NBC presentation.

So, doing my usual Craigslist scouring today and found NHL 15 for $30 because the guy hated it as soon as he saw there were barely any modes. Needless to say, I have NHL 15 and zero of my dollars went to EA. Win Win today.
