No win at all because EA still gets their cut.

He wanted $35 but I always talk them down by $5. So for $30, I get a day one game and EA gets shit from me.

So, doing my usual Craigslist scouring today and found NHL 15 for $30 because the guy hated it as soon as he saw there were barely any modes. Needless to say, I have NHL 15 and zero of my dollars went to EA. Win Win today.

Hopefully not, lol. But good job not giving EA anything. Bad news is...now you have to play the game.

When I stopped at Best Buy this afternoon to pick up my Destiny stuff, they had my copy of NHL sitting there with it.
I just told them to cancel it.
Honestly, the majority of the things that had been left out don't really affect me, and I kind of liked the gameplay, but I want EA to know that all of us are pissed.
I fully expect them to slash the price, and it will probably end up dirt cheap, like NBA Live.
I will eventually have to get it at some point, since I have every single year since it began.

Sooo...Notch throws a hissy fit and pulls Rift support when Facebook buys Oculus. Then, a few months later he sells his company to Microsoft? lol...what in the fuck, man? At least the Oculus sale could be justified by a need to scale up production. This just seems like cashing out. I mean, at the end of the day, if you have the opportunity to make $2 billion...you most definitely do it. But he really comes off as a hypocritical asshole in all of this.

The article questions what's in it for MS...but man, you have to wonder if they could actually pull digital versions of Minecraft from other platforms now. At the very least, any future Minecraft (or possibly even DLC/expansions) will be XB1 exclusive. The only way this makes sense for them is if they can turn Minecraft into a system seller.

The problem is NBA Live at least has to try to live up to 2K. Hockey die hards and basically all of Canada will buy NHL 15 even if it had sex with their mom.

Uh, 2 billion? Thats crazy. I wouldn't blame him for that money. That's double what Twitch got.

Apparently we missed the American Truck Simulator screenshots:

LMFAO at sub $2.00 gas prices. The game must take place in the 90's.
Yeah, I wouldn't blame anybody for taking $2 billion...but he did. That's exactly what Facebook bought Oculus for too. It's just like the nonsense of people telling college athletes not to go to the pros early. You take the money when it's there because nobody is going to pay you for being "honorable" when things blow up in your face. If you can get guaranteed money...that equates to years, decades, or lifetimes that "normal people" have to work for, you freaking take it. Every single time.

And yeah...ATS looks SOOOO GOOD. Is it retarded that that's my most anticipated game of the year? haha.

Ok, seriously, I think this guy is funnier than Markiplier or pewdiepie or any of the other big Youtube gamers. I don't even care about the mask (though, that does make me want to think he's actually a celebrity...like it's Jason Segal or something, haha). Dude is just a natural.

I'm really curious about why Mojang is worth that much to Microsoft. They're an indie studio, have one (very) successful game, and a (very) successful brand. They haven't proved that they are not a one hit wonder, unlike say Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, or Bungee. It's hard to sustain the success of a video game brand long term, let alone when there is only one game. Oculus and Twitch are platforms that deliver content that is constantly evolving, which is why I get their valuation. It's like how Zynga and Farmville brands tanked after a while; they were brands that grew stale because there was no real evolution of the product.

Oh and not sure that I saw this mentioned, but another feature out of NHL 15, you can't edit goalie equipment.  Not sure if I am missing it, but when i select equipment it doesn't let you change colors...

gameplay is great, but just sad about the lack of depth, going to get a ton of trophies and then probably trade it in, which is sad because I usually keep NHL for the whole year.

Yeah, I mean...Minecraft is a heavy hitter. No question. But I agree, it kinda feels like they're getting in on the "end" of it, if that makes sense. The game is on basically every platform now. I don't think the game is a fad or anything. But is there even a thought for a Minecraft 2? And what would that even be?

If they had pulled off this sale before the XB1/PS4 version released, and they could have made it exclusive, that would have been huge. Unless they're just content to make the money when somebody buys a Steve head at Hot Topic or when somebody downloads the game on PS4 (it would be hilarious if the game loaded with a Microsoft logo though), I'm curious what impact this will actually have for them.

The merchandise in Walmart and Roy R us to name a few places is so ridiculous. About 8 feet worth of just Minecraft merchandise

But how long can it last? And is it worth 2 billion?

Rovio is the one other company I can think of that's similar, but their movie tie ins allow them to re-skin the game a re-release everything. Mojang hasn't done anything like that.

Yeah...Minecraft is basically done then. He cashed out. I don't blame him...but he's still a hypocrite. $2 billion will make anybody a whore. When I think about the things that I would do for $2 billion...I start to scare myself, lol.

I want to say at least two years Alan. I usually restore k it every week I visit a walmart or toys r us. Also, I'd say you'd probably love NHL 15 and say you love it for 2 Billion. I draw the line at Shaq Fu though.

Right, the question is even if it's 2 years, are they going to get their 2 billion return on investment? I just don't see Mojang as a long-term, sustainable purchase. The benefits of owing will, imo, have diminishing returns, and I just wonder if the ROI in the early years will justify the purchase price.

I wouldn't say I love NHL 15 for 2 billion...not sure where you;re going with that,,,

Reports are saying that Notch is the one who approached Microsoft about the deal too. What in the hell is going on with him? That just looks like a guy who is out of ideas...for Minecraft anyway, who is trying to sell high before everybody figures out it's at the end of the line. I guess Microsoft figures they can take it and "re-invent" it...but more than likely, it will be a trainwreck, haha.

And for $2 billion, I'd say NHL 15 was the best game ever. I'd be flapping my jersey all over the damn place.

I'd rather get paid $1.99 to curl Gary's pubes.

Also, apparently, this is the worst game ever made. Alan, you should especially get a kick out of this one...as I would say it almost rivals Frog Fractions in some ways.

And it's on Steam...for $5.99, lol.

It looks like the consumer Oculus Rift will start rolling out by summer 2015...possibly as early as April (I'll be shocked if it's out that early though...they've got plenty of bugs to iron out as is).

http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/09/11/oculus-rift-consumer-model-reported-to-be-releasing-in-beta-next-summer/

Higher resolution (some have speculated that 1440p is the target) and at least 90hz refresh rate. It's going to take a pretty beastly PC to push that thing. 90 fps at 1440p in 3D...yikes. I really wish the consumer version would just have "settings" where it could run as a DK1 (1280x800, 60hz), DK2 (1920x1080, 75hz) or Retail (2560x1440, 90hz).

I mean, I know you can run things at a lower resolution if need be...but I'm not sure if it can handle the different refresh rates and how that would correspond to headtracking and lag. I just think they're going to alienate a lot of people with those requirements. Those are basically minimums too. If your system can't hit those marks, the experience will suck and most likely make you nauseous. Looks like some major upgrading is in my future, haha.

I wtf'd so hard at the Airline leaders.

After using the DK2 for a while, I think the biggest priority is making sure the Ocuclus isnt a resource  hog, so that that games can run as close as they can when not on the oculus. I have a fairly decent rig, and even then my framerrate hitches up occasionally I for those few seconds, I feel like I am going to barf. Of course, part of the responsibility lies on the game developers too.

Well, to an extent, it has to be a little different. After all, on the Rift, games are rendering in 3D. People on the Oculus forums have been saying that a general rule is you get about 25-35 fps less on the Rift than on a regular monitor. Game optimization does play a huge factor though. You really start to get a feel for what developers know what they're doing...and what devs just throw broken code on top of broken code, haha.

That's why I think people trying to do stuff with the best graphics and craziest setups might end up missing the mark. Some of the honest to God best experiences on the Rift are the simplest things. If you haven't tried the Minecrift mod yet, I can't reccommend it enough. Being inside of Minecraft is such a cool experience.

I think that's the way VR is going to grow. People are going to start to figure out that the things they thought would be awesome aren't that great, and the things they didn't think would work are better than they expected. Another really awesome one to try is Titans of Space. It's more of an experience than a game...but again, that's kind of the point.

Yeah, it definitely will have an impact by virtue of being more progressive technology, but the drain can be minimized with optimization. I guess I'm trying to like it to Shadowplay. That program uses such minimal resources that I just leave it on all the time, and can't tell the difference. If Oculus can get even remotely close to that point, it will be a good selling point.

Finally was able to share this video from my time with Early Access. Watch the defensive players on this one.

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=76BDEA4E7226B515!672&authkey=!AHdDbf5cb-aU6LY&ithint=video%2cmp4
Yup, same old, same old. Like I said one other time, this is clearly as good as EA can do. Even the critical reviews I've seen have praised the actual gameplay, but it's little things like that that casual players don't notice. The AI still just doesn't know what they're supposed to be doing. It's kind of hard to tell from the video, but I'm assuming that one timer went in right?

Just imagine if the goalie had made a ridiculous save. The game would be even more broken. I doubt EA will ever make decent AI, but in OTP/EASHL, at least goals like that reward the team that understands defense better. I remember when we could crush teams in NHL 12 by just never letting them in the zone. When we do that in NHL 13 or 14, we're lucky if we're up 1-0, haha.

It's weird to think of "always goals" making for a more strategic game...but it basically creates a scenario where your offense may be just as potent as our offense...but if our defense is better and more disciplined, then we're going to win. So, the team that works harder wins...as it should be. I'd still rather have that than the slot machine, Mario Party hockey EA has been making the past few years.

Not possible. I don't believe you :nottalking:
lol...if it were easier to record a playthrough of it, I'd do it. Because of the way it renders to the Rift, I don't think Shadowplay will record from it (I did try to save the shadow afterward, but it didn't work). I think the people doing videos of it are mirroring to their monitor and then recording from that (and I can't even imagine how many system resources that uses).

But yeah, I've been watching so many videos of people being terrified playing it, I was just like "You know what...I'm being a pussy", lol. So, I threw on the game and just did it. I actually beat it twice because my first playthrough was incredibly lucky and I went down one hallway, ran into that lady, turned and ran the other way, went into a room, and found the exit. I was proud of myself, but kind of felt like "not sure if that counts..."

So, I played it again, and that playthrough took about 15 minutes and I ran from several things, and traversed most of the map. But I did find the exit. I still feel like I cheated/desensitized myself a bit just from watching so many videos. But hey, I made it through. :)

Wow... Definitely haven't seen that glitch yet. Thank God, because I'm sure my head would explode along with my controller when it hit the wall.

Ha Ha Ha.  For $30, its enjoyable. For $60, its Sad.

EDIT - Video got messed up but, guy just hand passed it and no stoppage, come on EA this is next gen. Is it so hard to program?

Plus side, played HUT and a lot of penalties called on the other guy for doing dumb shit. When he wasn't covering the slot, he paid dearly

God damn...those videos, lol. At least the gameplay is good....right?

Oh, and here you go, Alan. Minecraft in the DK2. Very easy to install.

http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=142&t=17489

Additional instructions in case the stuff on the site is confusing:

1. Put the DK2 in "extend" mode

2. Start up your Minecraft launcher and select the new DK2 version for your profile

3. Switch the DK2 to be your primary monitor in nVidia Control Panel or whatever you use

4. If the Minecraft launcher jumps to the DK2 screen an easy way to move it back is to press the Windows key and left/right arrow (depending on how the DK2 is plugged in in relation to your main monitor) rather than trying to make sense of it on the DK2

5. Click "Play". Game should launch on the DK2

One other thing you may want to do once in the game is go into the options, find the VR Options, and go into the HUD/overlay options and make it a little bigger. The default for it is pretty damn tiny. Other than that though, it should run pretty great.

I'm enjoying the game play. Playing HUT, I love the puck chasers because it usually leaves Richards in the slot or my D open. I usually give it to Richards and fires it right in. If you play like an idiot, you actually pay for it,  at least till a patch comes out.

Step 6. Get sick and throw up :p

Still slowly getting used to it. Managed to play Dreadhalls for about 20 minutes before I got nauseous. What really messed me up where times I turn my head instead of using the right stick to look around. I forgot I'm only looking, and when I use the left to to move, my head is still turned, and I get really disoriented.

Yeah...but you're enjoying it because you love hockey. Not because it's a good game. There should be a difference.

Haha, well, just throw up on a Creeper and you'll be fine.
