Wii U - General Discussion Thread

Does Nintendo have sales on older games (NES/SNES) on their eShop?

I've seen sales/discounts on newer games/indie games but never really paid attention to this stuff.

There have been a few sales in the past when several titles in a series came out at once. They've done a buy 2 get 1 free on Kirby, Street Fighter, and Final Fight games when those came to Wii U VC. I don't recall just a % off sale though.

So, I might be missing something completely obvious here... but how do you switch between using your TV vs the GamePad as the primary display?

I was playing MK8, and saw an option to switch to the GamePad (on the GamePad screen) so I press it and now the game (and audio) is on my GamePad. But I can't figure out how to go back to normal (game on TV, options on GamePad)... the game is showing up on both the TV and GamePad but I can't/don't see an option to go back to the TV/surround sound speakers.

Pretty rarely. They did a 30 cent promotion for the Famicom's 30th anniversary last year with a new game for the first few months of 2013. Balloon Fight, F-Zero, Punch Out! (Mr Dream), Kirby's Adventure, Super Metroid, Yoshi and Donkey Kong were all 30 cents each.

Touch the right side of.the GanePad screen.
I would have never noticed that. I played WW and noticed that it was a completely different way to switch between screens... kinda dumb that it's not the same for all games.:whistle2:?

Sucks. Guess I'll have to hope some store has sale and they forget to exclude virtual currency.

I just wish I had been getting Club Nintendo games before I got my Wii U. The codes don't expire and I'm so mad I missed LttP!
Yeah, LttP was my favorite Wii VC game they've offered so far, close second is Super Metroid. They've only offered LttP once so far, but they have repeated most other VC offerings at this point.

Maybe a tie in with Hyrule Warriors next month for it being offered again? Not entirely out of the question...

Question about DDP... if a game is on sale, do you get DDP points the equivalent of what you spent, or does it base it on the MSRP? Just curious since codes for games give the full value but that obviously isn't the same thing.

It's based on what you spent at the time. Codes are sort of the same thing since they only give you the amount of points for what it's worth at that moment, so you could probably get less points if you redeemed the code when the game is on sale.

Once Watchdogs releases, it seems Ubisoft will drop support outside of Just Dance. I guess we'll never get whatever that finished game is they're sitting on (likelyZombiu2).

Sorry to bump an old thread but can someone please tell me how to change my Nintendo Network ID password on my Wii U?  I cant find the screen for it anywhere.

this is the main thread, it'll never be old :)

you might have better luck doing it through the website and resetting the password there. I had to change mine because I had forgotten it between the 3ds and Wii U.

This is like a week old, but figure I'd post it here for fun (also since there is no other Wii U news at the moment).  This image is from www.cad-comic.com, which the artist has been running a side story arc on the console wars for some time now.

Here's a link to the page with the other console campaign pictures (scroll down at the link) but I liked the Nintendo one enough with all the other previous consoles to post it here.

Just finished the Bayonetta 2 demo for the first time and all I can say say is wow.

Did not expect that.

What a fun freaking demo, man I am actually super intrigued by this game now!

So much fun and very simple, exactly what a demo should be.  Granted I've never played through the first game but I'm really tempted to buy this game at launch now. I really didn't have much hype for this until tonight, what a cool game.

I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong and I stand corrected, the Wii U with 7.1 million console sales is doing really well for it's first year on the market.

Has to own stock in Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony or something because far too busy looking at console sales data to be enjoying the games on said platforms.

As we all know console sales data has a huge impact on the enjoyment of your gaming experience.

No financial interest. I'm just self satisfied in my predicting so well the future 2 years ago.

As we all know console sales data has a huge impact on the enjoyment of your gaming experience. Since install bases don't matter, I think I'll go play Dragon Age 3 on my Wii U in a few weeks.

I thought you said it was going to be $200 with 2 free games?

Saying its going to be $350 on black Friday after Microsoft has cut the Xbox one to $350 for 3 months isn't exactly a bold prediction lol.
You knew that was a joke and following that I admitted as much and said 350 if you'd care to go back and look - and that was PRIOR to MS's announcement. Get a sense of humor.

Its the sales of past third party games on the system and the risk publishers want to take. Look at the xbone. Has a lower install base than the Wii I, still gets full support. Why? Because their past games have sold great on MS consoles.

I'm guessing more details on the first MK8 dlc (probably releases next Thursday with the amiibo patch update) as well as more details on amiibo functionality, a new Toad's Treasure Tracker trailer, and possibly a new Wii U holiday bundle/price drop.

Maybe if we are lucky we'll get a little nugget for a new IP for next year but I think this direct is going to focus on the end of the year releases and the aforementioned holiday bundle/price cut.

Whatever it is Nintendo Directs are always appreciated, really have to gives props to Nintendo for appealing to their fans with these direct broadcasts throughout the year.

So, new info was:

- Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 1 comes out the 13th.
- Certain amiibo (Mario, Peach, Luigi, DK, Yoshi, Captain Falcon, Kirby,Link, Fox, and Samus) will give you new costumes in MK8.
- Link's amiibo in Hyrule Warriors gives you a new weapon: the Spinner from Twilight Princess. Other amiibo will give you random weapons, rupees, materials, etc.
- Splatoon will have a 1P mode where you fight mutant octopus tentacles.
- Kirby and the Rainbow Curse has a multiplayer mode where players 2-4 can play as Waddle Dees and have help move Kirby.
- Xenoblade Chronicles X is massive and the GamePad contains all menu info so the main screen has little HUD info.
- Nintendo is sponsoring Indiecade and has a bunch of interviews on their YouTube channel.
- Pikmin 3 is getting a demo as well as 3 short movies available for $4.99 on both Wii U and 3DS.
- You can buy or pre-order select digital games from Nintendo.com.

Hopefully they finally announce a wii u console smash bros bundle ton as well. Really wondering how cone they never did. Its like only 2 weeks left.

So these Amibo's...for games that do not store information on the figure like MK8 or Hyrule Warriors, do you have to tap the figure every time you run the game to unlock content or is it there once you use the NFC reader once? I would hope they wouldn't expect you to use these every time for some Mii costume (ie: paid hats).

Of course I care. I have Mario Kart 8 but have no need for nick knacks. I'd rather unlock the content then sell the "toys".
Once you scan the amiibo, you will receive the suits. They will be saved, so you don't have to scan the amiibo everytime you want to use it.

I'm surprised they did that... this will just encourage people to sell them off, not keep them, and the used market will flourish. I know I will collect them, but I can see even trading groups set up just to get the costumes or other DLC only.
