PSN Off-Topic - Happy Thanksgiving Chumps and Chumpettes!

I preordered Far Cry 4 from Best Buy before heading to bed this morning, if only because I have hope that it will go on sale within 45 days and I can do a post-purchase price adjustment to make its net cost closer to $20 after factoring in GCU and the $10 in points for preordering.
I thought you had to pre-order within 7 days of release to get the $10? Unless I read that wrong/they stopped using that rule.

Edit: nevermind. Just read the actual site. It is/was worded differently on the actual mybestbuy site.

Speaking of plus discounts, while at target last night they had a buy one get one 25% percent off on plus.

Crap deal compared to 30, but only one Ive seen lately.

My shitty math comes up with 41.55 per year including the 5% off for red card.
A ~17% discount?!

It's still on the list of eligible titles, so no. And it is "within 7 days of release" since FC4 releases tomorrow, so maybe you meant to say "before 7 days of release"?

It doesn't sound that bad to me. Assuming you would ever see $30 again was crazy, IMO. I expect $40 is as good as it will likely get from here on out barring a price mistake.
Except it isn't $40, and you have to buy 2 years at once. I'll just hold out hope that a $40 straight up deal (or better) will show up between now and February.

Thanks, I'll try and get on tonight. I know I'd be able to squeeze it in sometime between 6 and 7 pm eastern, if you're able. You got kik? Gotta get mine set up.
I don't get home from work until about 7 eastern, so that won't work. Usually I game from 10-12 eastern, if that works. Like Gator said, it takes two minutes tops to knock out the online trophies. And yes I'm on Kik so you can hit me up in there.

I think it does work on PSN cards, so you could get 2x$50 (or 2x$20 if you don't want to commit $100) for 17% off and then just buy it off PSN if a better deal doesn't come along before your subscription expires. Same discount, but more flexible, and it would count torward a Buy X get Y credit back promotion unlike the year subscriptions.

6-7 is too close to that PSN maintenance downtime anyway, I forgot about that. I'll shoot for 10, if not tonight then later this week. I'll get my Kik set up today sometime.

Interesting point. I could use the $50 (for $40) PSN card I bought… but I want that for Pinball Arcade season 2, etc! Maybe another $50 for $40 deal will pop up….

Let's see ($50 PSN card *.75*.95) + ($50 PSN Card*.95) = $35.63 + $47.50 = $83.13 at the store. Then on the most recent PSN promotion (if you can wait that long for the next one) it was buy $100 (2 years of plus or 1 year of plus + $50 in software) get $15 back.

So $83.13 - $15 credit = $68.15, divided by 2 is $34.08 per year of PS+.

Does it work that way? I always assumed redeeming a PS+ card didn't count towards those promos.

He was talking about buying PSN $ cards on sale to fund the PSN wallet, then buying the Plus sub out of your wallet on PSN. That would work for the promotions since anything from your wallet counts.

The pro division, yes, but the novice division's winner is still up in the air...
I was ahead by one point before the blow up. I did have a likely first place in the day when we saw the problems and didn't get full results, but then the next day I had a bad run. I'm definitely not a shoe in in the Pro division.

You can't buy two $25 PSN cards. They don't exist. So you're buying more than $50 worth of PSN money. If we get another $50 for $40 deal, though, I'm definitely buying.

I want the Spelunky challenge on just as much as you guys, even though I was doing less than stellar but only if the boards are legit fixed.

We can't continue until they get it "legit fixed", so, yeah.

I do feel like I won in getting all those haters to play and maybe even start to like it a little! :)

Glad I'm good with Plus until like 2018...I grabbed a bunch at $30. Figured it would be worth it.  :D/ Of course if there is a good deal to be had I'll bite. Too bad they didn't do it again this year.

No, though you could do two transactions, a $20 X 2 and a $10 X 2 and then have $10 left over to spend on software after funding the purchase of 1 year of PS+ via PSN if you don't want to buy 2 years worth.

You sound like our operations department. If you are going to be doing just in time buying you are rarely ever going to get the best deal. Buy 2 $50 for $40 and then buy 2 years of plus when a promo happens. It seems like you are dead set to get the best bargain but not have more than 1 active year on your account at a time. I'm not sure you can get there from here...

da fuq?

Saying I should have bought 10 years when it was 30 bucks last black friday, as in 10 years for the future.
Yes...yes, I know. I have fun with my poor hearing by deliberately misunderstanding people. It doesn't translate as well to non-verbal communication, though.

I figure I'm likely to see a straight up $40 deal between now and then. Check in with me again after February. But $40 deals have happened recently and seem likely to happen again before long.

We should have a pinball tourney in lieu of the Spekunky one. We can use the four original Pinball Arcade ones most of us got for free. Or the three original Star Wars ones we got for free. Or if enough peeps have the seasons, we can pick 5-10 in there to use. Same kind of scoring as Spelunky where the highest score for that table gets 15 points (or however many people enter) and the lowest gets 0. Add up the points for the tables and there's your winner. Give everyone a week or a month to get the highest score they can.
Since this probably got buried over the weekend, I'll post again. Maybe run a poll to gauge interest? Or did Tyler get eaten by a bear again.

You didn't grab a year from Rakuten the other day? $35 is hard to beat these days.

A random deal could come out over BF as well. I think even Groupon had them at $30 last year. Guessing it was a Sony pricing thing last time around but don't forget about Cyber Monday as well. After Christmas sales as well. Thinking something good will come along. $35 is pretty good though.

No offense, but I would hardly be interested in a Pinball Arcade tournament. I guess that means everyone else would be on board, though.

Not live ive ever participated before in one, but I definitely wouldnt do one for pinball.

I dont get why people go apeshit for this pinball stuff.

Damn. Missed like 6 chances to lose at getting a free PS4 from taco bell. I did get to lose today, though. Didn't realize the promo was still going

It was posted in this thread and commented on by a few people. That was part of the reason for my earlier comment. I thought you were dead set on getting it for $30 again.
No. I must have skipped that discussion. There's a few recent days where I didn't catch up and just let it go. Must have been in there.

Tyler: Here's a good video TB just put out discussing review embargoes if you're actually curious about TB or embargoes:

Or someone could play each table once and be done. Depends on how good their early runs are.
I'd say this would have to be like a gentlemen's rule or something. Otherwise wouldn't it kinda just fall into the category of being able to practice until you own it? I think the one run and you're done aspect of the Spelunky tourney made it much more interesting.
