PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Thanks man. The PlayStation Experience works out for my schedule actually: I have weekends off, Vegas is a one hour flight away, boss is cool with me taking Monday off, didn't have any plans for this weekend, hadn't gone to Vegas in a few years, and I never took any vacation this year yet so it just made sense the more we thought about it. The minute I saw that I'd still be happy going to Vegas and worst case scenario - coming away empty handed from the convention - I was all in. Pictures? No problem!
I'm honestly on the fence. I live on the other side of the country but I've been to Vegas a few times and I'm always able to find really reasonable direct rate flights out of Boston through Jet Blue.

The only thing holding me back is A) there is no guarantee they'd sell the system B) I have very little self control and would probably sleep through the event in a hooker/booze daze.

Seriously though if I knew that I showed up at a certain time, even if I had to wait for hours, that I'd be able to get at least one console I would put the money down to go.

Lucky! What are your plans if you're able to get a console, are you keeping it sealed or are you actually gonna play on it? I think I would keep mine sealed. I know a lot of resellers are gonna be after it as well.
If I get a chance to buy it, I plan on just reselling it. If I were to keep it, it would look uglier with my TV setup so I'd actually look at it as downgrading if I were to swap my current black PS4 for the gray LE. So I'd rather have it pay off my vacation trip if I could. If I had a chance to buy multiples I would strongly consider donating one as one of the grand prizes for this year's Child's Play drawing. CAG was especially good to me this year.

Well as a reminder, don't forget that they'll be offering attendees to purchase rare collectibles from their various studios so there's that. With that said, of course the LE console would overshadow everything else there and given the sheer size of this event I'd bet on them not guaranteeing a console to everybody in attendance. I expect less than 6K allocated to NA so I just don't see how they'd be able to accomodate everybody in attendance while allotting a reasonable amount to online preorders. This wasn't being advertised as an intimate 500 person event so I'm looking at it as a lottery situation more than anything. They are still selling tickets to the event as we speak.

If you end up going let me know. I'll be attending the Saturday event only. The second day is tempting but as mentioned earlier, I'm just treating this as a vacation that happens to coincide with the PS event. So I'm just limiting myself to one day instead. Fares from my departing airport seemed pretty pricey to me. I just lucked out because my wife knew some folks that were willing to give us some voucher credit to defray a large portion of our flight costs.

Sure I'll keep you in mind.

So there's a TLoU tournament that's going to be held at the PlayStation Experience too. If the wait time is reasonable I'll throw my hat in the ring since I'm an active MP participant. There's always somebody better though and I thought I played a lot - I'm at level 102 right now - but I ran into some guy a few weeks ago that hit level 415. I do pretty well compared to the average player but needless to say I got smoked :cold:

TLoU DLC will be announced too (most likely for MP).

Man, it sucked that it leaked though now that I think about it. Still a fun time to be a PS4 gamer right now, we got the VGAS tonight and the PSX tomorrow. :bouncy:

Well there is one of the playstation experience announcements... not a huge fighting fan so still hoping for some other exclusive announcements this weekend...

I'm with ya, this is a yawn inducing announcement for me, would have rather had Dead Rising and Tomb Raider, but it's good to see Sony getting some of these deals also and not letting Microsoft continue the narrative of having all the exclusives.

Also Tomb Raider is timed as was confirmed and it had weird "exclusive holiday 2015" verbiage where this has none of that. So this appears to be a true exclusive at least until the ultra edition comes out.

I've never been a huge fighting game fan, but it's good to see them getting some third-party exclusives. It'll be interesting to see if anything else pops up over the VGA's or PSE.

In an ideal world we wouldn't have third-party games go exclusive to one console platform, but since that isn't the case I'd prefer if both consoles get some exclusives rather than it be one sided.

I love Street Fighter so Im happy I'll be able to play it on my PS4, just gotta get a fightstick now. I dont like third party exclusives either but Sony cant sit back and let MS have them all.

There's definitely something else big planned for tomorrow according to some people. I also read that Street Fighter was supposed to be revealed at the The Game Awards and not the PSX event.

Hope your right...

I'm good if they reveal Uncharted remastered trilogy coming next year

Here's a stream for tonights Game Awards. We'll see some new gameplay from The Order, Bloodborne, No Mans Sky, and whatever the hell EA's special announcement is. Should be fun!

Twitch Link

Good for them because of evo. Means they will have to have PS4s and will be the main console now
Could happen but we dont know the full deets yet, Im hoping Sony is more foward about it then MS was with TR.

I thought the show was pretty good for being a first time event. The second-half was a lot better than the first half of the show, but overall it ended up being a lot better then I was originally expecting after last year. They can improve some things they did badly and throw a much better one next year for sure.

Sony was really light on actual content it looks like they just threw a bunch of trailers together last minute. It wasn't the best display, but I can understand it since they want to save everything for the PlayStation experience tomorrow. Still better than Microsoft deciding to not show anything at all.

It really was. My favourite game there was No Mans Sky, the trailer looked really fantastic. Bloodbornes was really poorly edited I thought. The gameplay looked nice however. No capcom either so I take that SF5 was suppose to be at tomorrows show, so thats a big leak.

About 12 hours until Uncharted 4 gameplay is shown, assuming it's shown during the keynote. If it doesn't look better than real life, ND will have failed.

Dungeon Defenders 2 is a PS4 console exclusive through 2015, I think that was really the only big announce at the show.  I thought it was far better than last years VGX though and thought the entertainment pieces were really good, like the Imagine Dragons song at the end or the Dragon Age violin solo.  I'll definitely watch next years as this one was good.  Though my wife thought it was weird that we didn't see the nominees on most of the awards and they were just like "here you go.."  That would be my biggest complaint, however had they done it this thing would have gone on far longer and that wouldn't have been a good thing either.

I thought it was pretty funny how first they had the team from Bungie come out for the Destiny soundtrack award then they left and they had Marty come out to accept the award with Geoff mentioning he also won it.

It must have been pretty awkward for the Bungie people seeing as how they had fired him previously and he ended up suing and winning a case against them.

Didnt someone from the Hearthstone team accept an award like...two minutes after we were told nobody was there to accept it? It was the duo who talked about Ms Pac Man or whatever giving out the award.

But yeah, pretty underwhelming show and Keighley needs to dial back the usage of "World Premiere". Also curious why Microsoft was basically a no-show.

lol yeah that happened and it was definitely odd.. but so were those comedians, they were bombing like crazy and it wouldn't surprise me at all if them saying that they were accepting the award on Blizzards behalf was also a terrible joke that no one got.

On another note another exclusive that was announced last night that no one is talking about is Godzilla, it is a PS4 exclusive and gave off a kind of King of Monsters vibe, maybe we will see more on that today.

Yeah that was super awkward. Those two nobody comedians sucked and they made a shitty joke at Reggie's expense. Then the camera pans back to Reggie and Geoff after they saidnobody from Blizzard is around to accept the award and Geoff has to juggle a pissed off Reggie while making small talk until somebody from Blizzard sprints over to him to accept their award.

Then Reggie looks even more upset because Geoff hands the Blizzard guy the award Reggie was about to receive then Reggie starts joking about where his trophy went.

Sitting row 8 at the keynote for PSX. Awesome seeing all the studio heads and Sony heads just feet away. Shuhei Yoshida sends his regards. Not sure how I feel about seeing Peter Moore.

Ten minutes!!! Looks like they'll be opening with UC4. :whee:
