[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Yeah, I keep forgetting. Hate this stupid cover art code nonsense.
Makes me wonder if they don't want new people signing up. I doubt that people who don't know about the club will pull out the cover art.

Also, I just open the case and bend it open all the way to get the cover art to hang down and just take a pic of the code with my cellphone. Its much quicker that way.

Actually, from what I saw in other places, it was to stop people from just taking the inserts out at places like Gamestop and not buying the game.

Still easy enough to get codes you didn't buy the game for, though.

How's Metroid 2?
It hasn't aged incredibly well but I loved it as a kid and beat it countless times on my old brick Gameboy. If you've played Super Metroid / Metroid Fusion / Zero Mission then it will be somewhat familiar but there is NO map system whatsoever, and a lot of the environments are repetitive. I might get it but I'm not sure I have the patience for it that I did when I was a kid.

They zoomed in for larger sprites (compare Metroid 1 to Metroid 2) and it makes it even harder to navigate. If I didn't have an old Nintendo Power with some maps in it back in the day, I might have given up. Nowadays with save states and maps online, you could probably get through it easily enough. Honestly though Metroid II is a prime candidate for a remake ala Zero Mission and the Metroid superfan in me is hugely disappointed that this has not happened.

I've heard talk about people wanting to do a Metroid II remake in the past, but that was before Other M torpedoed the franchise.

I've recently played Metroid II on the original hardware within this year (for the first time no less), and I say it has aged pretty well compared to the original.  It strikes a perfect balance between linearity and exploration, basically you progress deeper as you hunt the metroids in each section.  Once you kill all the metroids in one section (some are smaller, others are quite large), the next section opens up.

I went through most of the game without using guides and maps, as the tell tale broken metroid cocoon (or whatever they are called) lets you know a target is nearby, though I did end up referencing a map to find the varia suit (which getting the items / expansions is definitely crucial for the final battle).

And this was playing it with the built in save posts, not even including the save states in the updated version, so I'd say its definitely playable and worth your time.  Also, the main theme (Surface of SR388) is incredibly catchy, it's worth mentioning.

If Nintendo let's that kill the franchise than they're entirely out of touch with their fans. Hopefully Samus has been MIA because they don't want to keep churning out out the exact same game over and over and will have been working on something in secret for five years like Majora's Mask 3D. Hopefully.

I agree, they went from the 2D games to the 3D trilogy games so they are probably working on the next evolution of the game.  I didn't play Other M, so I have no idea what that was like.

From what I hear, the actual gameplay wasn't all that bad and it did some things well, but the story was just too much garbage.

I enjoyed Other M, even more so that I also just played Fusion not that long ago on the GBA, makes the plot and progression on Other M more cohesive.  Basically Other M was a 3D/2D hybrid of Fusion, plays very similarly, and both games are pretty linear.

If anything the dialog and voice acting, and some key character points (Sakamoto's influence) were the low points, but the overall plot wasn't too bad.  The gameplay was decent to good (boss fights were the high points), though seemed to be more geared towards casuals (auto-aim, easy to spam-evade, unlimited missiles, etc.).

Yeah, I enjoyed Other M.  The gameplay was mostly good (the FPS bits should have been limited to scanning only) but the story was definitely meh.

I have a feeling that more people would have liked Other M if  Samus had been kept a mute and the story had been cut back to a screen of text

It's true, the game does open itself up slowly in a way that isn't too overwhelming. I swear though some of the end-game areas get really repetitive with those tall rooms, and vertical hallways, it's easy to get lost. I think it just requires more patience than a lot of people have these days.

Great music, though, yes. If you haven't heard it, you need to check out this remix of SR388:

People great warmed up to Samus' VA thanks to her having fun via Twitter and Facebook. The biggest problem people have with the story is that Samus kotowed to all of Adam's requests like a lovesick schoolgirl while Adam himself had the personality of a brick.

The entire central theme of Other M was Helplessness. The game tore Samus Aran apart, buried her in her own failures, and left her a total wreck. Ultimately, you actually lose at every turn and accomplish nothing. I've played Silent Hill games with more uplifting atmosphere than Other M.

Were it not for Team Ninja handling the gameplay competently it would have been a complete waste. The plot is almost offensively bad.

have their been any deals like register a system get x recently... holding onto 2 2ds registries to hopefully not be caught out like last time.

In NA they've been running those after the holiday season so I would think it would be around March again. EU has been getting them leading into the holiday season so they've set up a pattern and hopefully they continue it.

The eligible games are:

  • Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
  • Pokémon Omega Ruby

I see Kirby's Pinball Land has unexplainably vanished from this month's rewards. Thanks, CN!

EDIT: Not sure what was happening, but it reappeared for me. Bizarre.

Not many people think about this but if you buy a Wii VC game, a lot of them can be upgraded to Wii U for $1. Also there's been a decent selection of 3DS freebies.
Aside from buying the Club Nintendo offerings, that comment really doesn't answer the question. He can't spend coins for anything not listed in CN.

He could go to the trading thread and offer to buy CN items for Paypal or Gift cards.

guys was I suppose to get a voucher with a pin number on it to register my wii u to get the club nintendo coins? I went thru the paperwork and couldn't did anything.

No, the WiiU doesn't come with one. It registers when you tie it to your CN account and then a survey appears a few days later.
