The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

I have heard nothing but praise for SG but I remember literally falling asleep during a few episodes of the anime. It crawled so that I didn't keep watching it , I got maybe eight episodes in IIRC and at the time I didn't know it was actually a visual novel, so I think I'd be into the VN more.
I was honestly confused about what thread I was in that would talk about Suicide Girls.

Steins;Gate the anime is just slow the first half but it picks up later. For those unaware, the Visual Novel came out before the anime.

Awesome news, Steins Gate being my second favorite anime of all time, next to FMA.

Yeah, the female lead Makise was a playable fighting game character in Phantom Breaker for 360.

Apparently there's a lot of info in the game not covered in the anime, like who the fat dude's wife was.
She's not in Phantom Breaker. She's in Phantom Breaker: Extra

I see, it's just that their Vita prices are too good
Solaris Japan is on Ebay if you care.

wasn't the anime based on the visual novel, or light novel to begin with. i wonder what made them decide to release steins gate now. since the visual novel game came out a long long time ago in japan

Akiba's Trip is one thing, but a game where you're supposed to take upskirt shots and the point isn't to vanquish bad guys? That would be pretty gutsy of XSeed to localize.

...I'd probably still buy it, though.

well, if anyone can do it, it is xseed. it is an open world game like gta v, there are other things you can do like biking, and fishing.

apparently, the publisher are D3 Publisher Inc, the game publisher that brought you games such as the Earth Defense Force series and the Onechanbara series

While that was hilarious, it's definitely too weird for my tastes.

Also, it's like Pokemon Snap for pervs.

It's not that old. It came out in 2009 in Japan, that's fairly recent compared to most VNs currently available in english. I'm sure the existence of an official english translation for the pc version is the reason we're getting the console ports. I'm considering double dipping for the vita version if there's actually a physical release.

I stalled out on the Steins;Gate anime after like episode 4, but bought the limited edition of the PC version anyway. The visual novel captured my attention way more and expands on everything in greater detail. I appreciated the anime more after playing the VN, but the VN is the way to go regardless of whether or not you've seen the anime.

Awesome, was just about to ask if I should play the VN or watch the anime first! Hope the PS3 version comes out sooner rather than later!

At least they'll have more than 1000 this time.

Hopefully keep the scalpers away who kept me from getting the first one

here is a more in depth detail of the game, you have the freedom to do what you want, and play whatever style you want. basically an open world version of akiba's trip

an open world game that takes place on a small island. Players take on the role of a high school junior who transfers to the local high school for 3 months. There, he is reunited with a childhood friend who convinces him to join the school's journalism club. Camera in hand, how he will spend his remaining time on the island is up to the player.

That's an interesting read. It definitely has some potential as far as the open world aspect is concerned, if what can be seen in the trailer is any indication. Again, the premise seems really weird but if it's very tongue-in-cheek like Akiba's Trip was then it could work. The writing would definitely have to be really funny as well.

I would probably check it out if it ever released here (likely through Xseed). If the reviews and gameplay videos are good, I might get it on the cheap.

This is probably going to be remembered by me as the biggest, most awful, most tragic event in all of preorder history.

I am glad when people put things up for resale on eBay on items I later want and failed to preorder, but anyone who bought this edition for the sole purpose of immediately flipping for profit while taking away from other people should be shamed.

Aw, I'm less inclined to buy it if I have to pay in cash rather than Amazon credit...

I might have to get my wife a steam account. She's become a huge anime fan and usually spends her evenings completely immersed into the storyline. Mostly watching the Slice of Life genre, so she would probably eat these up. Of course, she already watches anime past midnight as it is, lol.

You and me both. I so want to immerse myself within that culture badly. The gaming side tho. I'm more into that story drive / weird / quirky games that gets released over there

I wish I knew Japanese..

*sighs*
I'm holding out hopes something like Waygo would become good enough to translate complete lines and be used for movies, and games. Of course that's a lot to ask and would be one hell of a translating engine. Still, someone like me with no time to even attempt learning Japanese, and questionably might not be smart enough to learn Japanese could enjoy the games that never make it to the English speaking fans.

A guy on Craigslist is selling an "unused" 3G/Wi-Fi Via (Walking Dead bundle). I talked him down to $100...just don't know how much I'd play it.

I see several good sounding games from this thread...

i can see why, every season there are tons of new slice of life animes being release.

Conception 2, Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, Mind Zero.
it still baffles me why sword art online, didn't get a physical release. the anime/manga sale is actually pretty good in the US. i wonder what is the sales number for the sword art online game. i also don't see yakuza 5 doing well with the digital release.

No idea, but I'm going to just import it cause it still has the crappy translation over there anyways

I'm still sorta surprised they don't do pre-orders before localization. Like have it on their website different localization "projects" with a target revenue goal in mind. If enough people pre-order then they start the process of localizing it. Sure it may take a year or two but there's people out there that still do kickstarter
