The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

All I want is for the Vita to hang around long enough that they'll release all 3 chapters of Trails in the Sky for it.

Oh, and that they actually release all three chapters, I guess.

I'm very optimistic about the vita's future. So long as nobody gets cfw up off the ground I suspect the vita will be the niche game machine for years to come.

On another note, I finally got my copy of the ef limited edition. The art book is really quite nice.

i don't know about that. Seems like the ps4 is gonna be the one to have rpgs since it is so cheap to dev for.

People say it's dead because the vast majority of video game players only play what's on a store shelf in physical form and the Vita has ZERO shelf space at any retailer that isn't GameStop, and that's just one small shelf, even though it has every cart release available.

Making Minecraft & MLB The Show download vouchers only instead of a physical cart will end up being the nail in the coffin for Vita in terms of the mass market. It will now only be a digital-only indie port/JRPG haven while the vast majority of the gaming audience will treat it as dead.
Except that the Vita has shelf space at Target, Best Buy, and Walmart.

Sure, it feels like it's dead in the water at retail, but what you just posted is factually incorrect.

I wouldn't count Target or Walmart, they both only have like 5 games on display.

Now Fry's, that's another story. They have pretty much every Vita game there, last time I went they had 2 Shinovi Versus LEs

Sorry I don't consider 5-10 games at the most shelf space. Walmart has one row at the top of the PS3 or PS4 cabinet, BB has only a handful left next to the used games (with almost all of those with the exception of Freedom Wars being clearanced,) and Target is anywhere from 0-5 games in the plastic prison section with the rest being in clearance endcaps.

Fine, I changed it to almost zero.

Noice! But technically I think it's called "Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc" so it could also technically be slotted between Conception and the DJ Max game... >_> Still I applaud your attention to detail there. ^^

Oh but it's your collection so you can organize them however you want, obviously...
I think its rather silly they chose to enlarge Trigger Happy Havoc while keeping Danganronpa to a small font. But I get your point.

I'm optimistic about Vita's future too. Console sales are low but the attach rate among owners is helping it a lot. It got the most JRPGs last year, I think, of any console, and it's looking like it will do the same again in 2015.

I'm not sure if that thread is serious or not...Seriously, Duke Nukem 3D as a New Release? Come on.

I love my Vita, but hyping it with years old indie game bundle fodder ain't gonna cut it.

I'd much rather be the weird Japanese thing than the terrible port dumping ground.

Bullet Girls, that's gonna move systems!
A lot of the most appealing things on the list are ports. It doesn't mean it won't sell. Steins;gate for example is probably going to do great, despite being a port. Day of the Tentacles is old, but it has a huge cult following.

There's a lot of stuff on that list I didn't know was coming. Bomber Man clone? Zodiac, which looks like Dragon's Crown? A Neptunia SRPG? Muppet's Movie Adventure (I don't understand who would want this though)? Papers, Please? Aztez (which reminds me of Patapon and Madworld)? Oreshika (not as big a fan of the watercolor look compared to something more vibrant)? Risk of Rain (is awesome)?

Yea, most of those are ports or indies, but so what? It's still a huge amount of titles that you have the choice of playing anywhere you want.

Edit: OMG, someone needs to bring over Rise of Mana! And Stranger of the Village of the Sword! And I'm going to have to import Saki, cause that'll never get licensed here.

I managed to snag the second to last Trigger Happy Havoc Gamestop had in the KC area. I couldn't find it for MSRP on Amazon, and Gamestop is the only company that carries physical copies of it in KC that I know of.

Has anyone played Demon Gaze? Do you think its a good game?
We must have had the same weekend because I did the same thing on Friday. I must have passed 4 Gamestops to get to one that actually had a used DanganRonpa: THH. After coupons and power up rewards it was way cheaper than some of the prices going for it on the internet (including ebay).

Digital means you license the game. You can lose access if or rather when servers shutdown. Physical copies can be played, traded, sold so long as there is compatible functional hardware.
Technically, you also only license the game with a physical copy, too, but the big benefit of physical is ease of transference.

Nowadays, the lines between physical and digital games are becoming increasingly blurred. On most current gen consoles, all the disc does is install the game on your console and serve as a key for your console to recognize that you possess the license to play the game. Many games, even disc based games, need to access servers online at least periodically to run optimally, so when the servers shut down, you'll still be affected even with physical games.

As an example, I bought Little Big Planet 3 for my son for Christmas, and we played some of it in offline local co-op mode during the PSN outage, and it ran like crap. When PSN came back on, it ran much smoother.

To me, the increasing reliance on online access for both physical and digital games is as much of an issue for long term access of games as the physical vs. digital debate is.

Ain't that the damned truth. Now we deal with purchasing AAA games at retail that are completely broken before downloading and installing updates. This NEEDS to be the biggest concern for gamers/collectors/consumers these days. Developers and publishers need to be shunned and publicly shamed repeatedly for this type of behavior. People need to examine their habits of pre-ordering and stop supporting these publishers.

Shame on them for bending over the whims of investors. Stop the selling of unfinished games.

I'm surprised so many people are surprised to see vita dying. It's like where were they during the PSP life span. The PSP was a niche handheld catering to Jrpgs and not surprising vita is too. Shocking ain't it. Noobs.

Personally Jrpgs genre has been over saturated in the last few years . Too many hentai type girly craps that I'm just sick of now with crap game mechanics. People eat it up though supporting the genre just because. But I'm not seeing innovation or creativity from the genre lately.

Don't get me wrong I buy a lot of it. Just sick of being sold the same things over and over just rebranded.

The point of that thread was to list every game coming out for the system. Duke just came out last week that's why its on the list.

This is true. In the future a buggy game may be better than no game, though. And at least most localized releases of niche titles don't seem to need much in the way of patching.

I know for a while with Xbox 360 you could download patches yourself and install them from a flash drive. Is that not the case anymore with more modern consoles? It would be helpful in building a database of patches.

You guys also keep making comparisons with games that have online modes and require patching, updates etc.

Look at the Zelda MM. So long as it's patched and fixed upon release I can play it 20 years from now just as people are playing their original gameboy games. Comparing COD or LBP is stupid because of course those games require server support.

Just about every television console game has an online component these days.  That does not make it excusable.

The online component has now become the crutch argument for developers to fall back on why it's okay to ship incomplete games.

He does have a point though the one thing that bugs the hell out of me with these softcore games is how everyone keeps talking about the gameplay when it's not even that good. Everyone kept saying monster monpiece was a good game even though the actual gameplay is more shallow than the early yu-gi-oh gba games, akiba's strip is immsersive yeah but you're button mashing and not even paying attention to it half the time, the list goes on.

It's funny that I kind of like the Monster Monpiece story. Too bad the gameplay is kind of bleh and to level up cards is very grindy and yes the rubbing leveling up gameplay is grindy too. I like the non gameplay story graphics as well. A 5 or 6 out of 10 in my book.

A lot of the reviews keep going on about this rich and complex battle system that involves spamming the same shit over and over again. This game is not a 7.7
there is a simple reason why.... reviewers were asked not to bring up the game's fanservice at all after the debacle when the "censoring" of some of the more risque cards was announced. So, reviewers that really liked the game due to the fan service couldn't talk about the fan service.... well, they could, but were politly asked not to.

As usual, there are two sides to every story, and you neither believe the Vita is dying, or you don't. The last time I saw all this negativity, I pasted the NeoGAF link where there are tons of games coming in 2015.

Here is another one showing how well it's doing in Japan:

Yes, Sony has treated the Vita very poor in the states, and the memory cards are about as dumb as they come, but I buy more games for the Vita than anything else. Just look at the GameFaqs release schedule for the next 5 months in the US compared to the 3DS. There's a night and day difference between the games being released.

I own the 3DS as well, and I always found that system to be great, and I'm very much looking forward to the N3DS, but over the cycle of both systems, the Vita has slowly started taking over on game releases, and where there may be 1-3 games for the 3DS I'm planning to buy in 2015(so far), I can't even keep track of all the Vita titles.

For me, I find the Vita to be the most solid purchase going in to the near year. The 3DS has done well, but "N" seems unable to fix the WiiU situation, and still produce for the 3DS. The PS4/ONE are both early tech, and I see no reason to buy either until some serious games arrive, or bigger price drops for both happen.

I've already filled one Hori "24" card case for my Vita, and I'm just about getting ready to fill number two(I've got 5 spaces left), so I guess I need to buy a 3rd "24" case. I've just finally filled my first 3DS "24" case, and I'll probably be lucky to fill another before the 3DS life cycle is done, based on the current 3DS climate.

So if your not seeing the "life" left in the Vita, oh well, I see plenty :D/

From what I understand I think the vita was originally more powerful when it was unveiled and they were going to target a $299 price point this was when 3ds was $250. But the 3ds got a drastic price cut and they had to downgrade the specs. And since they had to lower the cost of the machine that's why the memory cards are so expensive.

haha, I won't bring that up again, god knows why its such a touchy subject to fandoms.

I can understand being upset if you are paying full price for something but it gets censored because someone else might be offended.
Yes but every argument is either trying to take the moral high ground of "cencorship is wrong" or trying to say that since it's alright in Japan, it should be alright in the West. I get being pissed off its censored but Japanese erotic culture fly's in the face of a lot of western values.

The people whining about censorship probably never play the games anyway and just throw them in the backlog when they get them.
Sounds like most gamers I know. I've been trying to change that. I'm working through my ps2 collection. Almost finished with rygar will either start digital devil saga or nocturne next

Is ps3 dead? I would say no, at least not until a few days after persona 5 comes out. Comments, questions, violent reactions?

Idea factory just sended me a email saying that the LE for hyperdimension is coming out tommorow?.. But tommorow is the 13th and the email states its coming out 14th kinda confusing...

I was set on getting Persona 5 on PS3. But once they announced that it is also getting PS4 release, I'm getting the PS4 ver. instead. I'm still keeping my PS3 though.
