This has to be hilariously awful.

Why do people hate Metacritic so much? I've never understood that one bit. They just take all the game reviews with scores, average them out, and then share what that number is. What is there to hate? It's like hating Batting Average in baseball.

Gamers are so fucking stupid.

Batting average is actually a pretty terrible representation of a hitter's worth.

Yeah I know. I just thought that was a great comment to explain how people could waste away $80 million, something that to most of us in here would seem literally impossible.
That depends. Do you have to spend $80 million in 80 days and show no assets? And do you get $800 million if you do?

Beats me, I like it for nothing else that it collects a lot of different people's opinions so it is easy to get a lot of viewpoints on the game. If I haven't heard anything about a game previously (it's on sale on PSN for cheap for example) generally read the highest scoring review, the lowest scoring English review (seriously, WTF are the lowest scoring reviews always in languages other than English?) and then a few in the middle to get a good sense of the game.

Near universal praise doesn't always guarantee that the game will be great, mixed reviews means it is probably a matter of personal taste whether you will like it, and universal condemnation means it's probably, objectively a bad game. It's silly that publishers are tying review scores to bonuses and salaries though as there is a much more accurate measure of how successful the game is, if it fuck ing sells and its sales continue at a decent pace after release.

I'm probably hypocritical in this regard since I review games myself and may be part of these scores eventually, and I'd obviously prefer people to read the whole review instead of just the score/summary because I worked hard on writing it. But I understand the need to just get a quick overview/ProsCons list when you're pressed for time or just don't care that much about the details.

I kind of wish we'd get rid of the number scores on GG as well because they are kind of arbitrary and hard to really determine sometimes. Especially when the three categories we can make sub-numbers for can be whatever we want, instead of a set three for every review on the site.
That's why I generally just divide it into two sections, gameplay (if there is more than one gameplay type then I'll split gameplay into more than one section) and everything else just falls under the banner of "Presentation" as none of the rest of that shit matters if the gameplay is bad or not fun.

Some local paper covered a couple of classmates going to our prom years ago.  I had no idea the article existed until someone posted it on Facebook a little while ago.  There was a continued article on another prom as well.

I have fond memories of playing a Metal Slug arcade machine in the basement lounge of my college's union building (along with Raiden) so I am going to have a hard time resisting that Metal Slug anthology PSP/VITA compilation.

Metal Slug is awesome. That game is why I want to play Mercenary Kings so badly since it looks pretty similar. I am starting to think the Vita version is never going to happen for it so I may just have to go with the PS4 version.

Beat Futuridium and got 50 medals, I think I'm done with the game.  It's a fun game, challenges are just way too hard.  I doubt the developer could even do them all.  Colors were great but sometimes they were too disorienting to see what you were doing.

Who cares about regular season anymore guys?  UK is getting in and getting a high seed, that's pretty much all that matters til March Madness starts.

Getting close to the finish line with the GR plat. Through episode 18 and I've been knocking out the challenges after a few tries. These throwing ones are just stupid though.

That Polygon example is just a great example of why everyone should hate Polygon.
Eh. Whether you agree with the article's content, your question was about why people don't like Metacritic. It does a good job of summing up those reasons. Some (or all) of the reasons might be bullshit, but the article does a good job of answering your question.
This, it's more a reflection of the shitty way Metacritic shapes the development/publishing side and how the need to be the first on Metacritic shapes the critical side. That shows the combined problem perfectly though. I love that Polygon is willing to go back and change scores as issues arise or a game is fixed but they should never have given that score to begin with.

It's like in another thread a few weeks back (pretty sure it was the XBL one) someone(s) were defending the outlets that gave Halo MCC 9's because that's what it will deserve when it's entirely patched and functional. Kotaku may have little to no credibility in most regards but they've been one of the first, and still few, major outlets to get away from scores. Joystiq was going to do the same but like a week after they announced it AOL lol'd at them.

I feel like saying that to nintendo

I'm 140 coins short of platinum

Bunch of fuck Ers over there cutting down the time to hit platinum
Have you registered Wii Fit and America's Test Kitchen yet? If you can find ones with working codes it's $1 each and you should get 110 and 30 coins after post play surveys. There's also three free games that give 15 coins each with post play on 3DS (Pokemon Bank, Rusty's Real Deal Baseball, Steel Diver Something Something).

Streaming Stardust. Gonna try out the broadcast mode.

Edit: Notification isn't working.

Nice work on the 50 medals. I only made it to 20, but I didn't try terribly hard to get any of them. I didn't realize the PS4 & Vita trophy lists were seperate. Noticed no one on PS4 has the Flappy Bird trophy, but 5 people on Vita do. That's kinda funny.

Even funnier is that I scored 63 on the Flappy Bird (without cheating) and you can't get half that.

They're undefeated and have a chance as being remembered as one of the best teams in history; if I want to make a post about it, I will.
When I think of the best teams in history they don't involve one-and-dones playing in awful conferences against teams that can't hold a candle to the teams of even 10 years ago.

Yeah, this UK team would get destroyed by the Sheppard/Delk/Walker/etc teams of the 90s.

But really, NCAA basketball as a whole isn't nearly what it used to be with all the freshmen leaving as soon as they can.

I haven't gotten the chance to watch too much NCAA yet this year. Do they look that much more dominant than Anthony Davis' 2012 team, because that team was pretty ridiculous. And they beat my Jayhawks!!
