:ps4: Foul Play - $2.00 to $100.00 [customspoiler='Fine Print'] :ps4: Foul Play is a part of the PlayStation Heroes program, which means that you can pay your choice among a variety of price points for an item that is usually a theme for entries into a contest to win some prize with most of the money going to a charity. There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

Really is :(

Had the same problem with TLoU and LBP3, going from disc to digital. They need to fix that. Waste of time waiting for those games to download when you already have it installed especially TLoU with that big ass download :wall:
Yeah, it's funny how XB1 for all it's crap does some basic things like that better. They both need to learn some lessons from each other on how to handle this stuff.

Annoying but theres a lot of little things PS4 does better than Xbox one that i prefer. Namely being able to put a disc in and actually start playing quickly.

Only someone neck deep in console wars talks like that.
Didn't your mother ever teach you not to stereotype? For the record, in my eyes, both major console players have shat the bed and need to be criticized for different reasons. The only platform down right and treated right is the 3ds.

Two weeks in a row of terrible PS4 sales. I just want Dragon Age Inquisition on sale. I probably should have bought Battlefield 4 when it went on sale since I'm converting to digital, but after the Hardline beta, I'd rather just forget 4 even though it's decent and play Heist mode in Hardline instead.
It was the opposite for me. After playing the Hardline Beta, I cancelled my pre-order. BF4 is the better game by far. Heist mode was fun, but gets bored very quickly.

Perfect timing on that SNK sale! On Monday I was looking through the PSN at all the "arcade type" games for the PS3. I'm building an arcade for my basement and will be using a PC and the PS3 in the unit. Wanted to pick up a few of the neo geo games but figured I'd wait for a sale. That was fast!

B-B-Baseball Stars!!

Thanks for sharing the video, Frisky! Had no idea that SSD Delta was coming to PS4 this very week. Gotta wait til next week to buy, but I'm getting it for sure. Loved the PS3 original, especially in 3D.

I was going to get Silent Hill Origins and Castlevania until the sale was pulled. Oh well.

I recognize P.O.W. and Metal Slug, but not the other SNK games. Any recommendations?

So annoying...

I haven't tried it yet, but the rumor is to disconnect the xbox from the internet, then put the disc in. Reconnect after its installed.

Supposedly it's downloading a lot of the game instead of transferring it from disc.

I thought there was something wrong with my xbox one when it took forever to install the very first game i put in it.

I was seriously considering Castlevania, but then I added up the addon levels and characters that all should come bundled in the game and it's nearly $26 more on top of the game purchase to get the full experience. So I kind of am glad it's not on sale as the temptation is completely gone now.

I think the only thing I may get is KoF99. It's the PS1 version which probably isn't as great as the Dreamcast version was it is probably my favorite game in the series (though I also love 98) and I could play it both on my PS3 and PSP. Then again maybe I'll just pass on everything this sale. I love a lot of the old SNK games but I feel like most of these games should come bundled together in a collection on a disc.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/02/11/resogun-defenders-blasts-onto-ps4-feb-17th/

Resogun Defenders is out next week for Resogun on PS4 ($4.99/Free with SP):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGKkFsjLbDs

More info on Resogun Defenders and the Resogun Challengers update:

Resogun Defenders takes place during our last stand against the overwhelming Sentient forces. Pushed back to an unknown planet you will take the fight to the bad guys in two all new game modes. Protector and Commando.

Protector Mode sees you taking to the skies to defend one of the last human colonies remaining. Utilize all new power-ups including Super Boost, Teleport, and automatic city defences; take down the enemy and deliver as many of the last humans to each city in order to extend your grip on the planet. Protector Mode features an all new planet flip mechanic and environmental hazards such as volcanic meteors to avoid while fighting off the never-ending enemy invasion.

Commando mode lets you play as the Last Human who was left behind. Stranded on a distant planet with only a mini-gun to defend him he takes the fight directly to the Sentients in the ultimate arcade revenge mode. Jump, boost and equip your favorite bandana as you aim to defend your home from waves of enemies, volcanic meteors and more in this all new mode.

What’s more is that Commando mode supports both cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes. Team up with a friend to fight the good fight or turn against each other to outsmart your opponent and destroy their house from under their nose. We’ve named the competitive mode Battle Mode and hope you have as much fun fighting it out with your friends as we have had here.

Resogun Defenders also includes an all new Trophy set for you to achieve and leaderboards to climb to prove your worth as the best pilot out there.

So as mentioned above we need to update the game to get it ready for the arrival of Defenders and that gives us the opportunity to add a bunch of new content for everyone free of charge while we do it! This brings us to Resogun Challengers, our all new content update launching today for all players.

Resogun Challengers is the largest content update to date for the game and brings with it a new system of player levelling which is achieved by earning Challenge Points as a reward for completing new challenges and feats across all existing game modes.

Challenges task you with playing a specific level or game mode with different rules or modifiers designed to provide a new challenge. Can you rescue 200 humans in a single level if every enemy drops one, or better yet can you complete survival mode using the Super Stardust Ship?

Challenges change things up and give everyone a reason to revisit all Resogun game modes for a new experience.

Performing well will award Challenge Points which will advance your player level higher unlocking rewards and bragging rights.

Alongside the Challenges we have also included Feats. These are long goals that are tracked across all game modes and award Challenge Points for achieving huge milestone goals. Have you rescued a cumulative 1,000 humans or just dodged 13 wrecking balls in Demolition Mode? There’ll be a Feat and reward for that. Only a true Resogun Hero can ever hope to achieve all the Feats but we’re sure you’ll have fun trying.

Human Gallery and Photo Mode

The Resogun Challengers update also contains an all new Human Gallery to organize and select your collected Human types, and the much requested Photo Mode which allows you to pause and capture stunning screenshots of all the voxel based action exploding on screen. We’re looking forward to seeing some of the shots captured by the players.

To top it all off, the Challengers Update also contains a bunch of new Trophies for you to earn — designed around the challenges and feats these will test the skills of even the finest Resogun pilots out there.

Finally I’m happy to announce that for those of you that have yet to play Resogun there has never been a better time. To celebrate the launch of Resogun Defenders we are offering 33% off the retail price of the full game for the next two weeks. Additionally, anyone who purchase the season pass will immediately gain access to our previous expansion, Heroes, and the additional humans available in the store.

I recognize P.O.W. and Metal Slug, but not the other SNK games. Any recommendations?
If you like Double Dragon, Gang Wars is well worth the buck-fifty. It's as if SNK said to their developers, "Here's $10. Make a game like Double Dragon." Just be aware that it's a PS Mini, so while it looks two-playered, Minis don't actually support multiplayer. And if you want to play it on Vita, you have to transfer it from PS3.

KOF99 for PS is different from KOF99 on Dreamcast. The Dreamcast version is actually 98. 99 is the one where you can call in partners to interfere with the match a la the first Marvel vs. Capcom.

Most of the games on sale are indeed bundled together on disc. SNK Arcade Classics, Vol. 1 has many of the better games in the sale included, and the collection itself is on sale. There's also a Vol. 0 that includes most of the older games in the sale, but that wasn't released outside of Japan.

Those new modes sound awesome for Resogun.

Anyone else feel underwhelmed by Super Stardust Ultra? I don't know. I loved the original but maybe it's Geometry Wars 3,particularly the campaign, that made me set a higher bar in my mind.

The Resogun Challengers update is now live. It's an awesome free update that overhauls the main menu to add all of the new stuff. The challenges are a new set of game types to play and doing so earns you CP that levels up your profile to unlock new challenges and other extras. There are also online weekly challenges that rewards the best players in the world with extra CP.

They've added a specific section under Extras for the Humans, so you can see all of the available humans you can choose from. It now offers you the option to pick multiple types of humans, so there will be a mix of them in every level.

It now offers you the option to pick multiple types of humans, so there will be a mix of them in every level. The Photo Mode just requires you to press the touchpad to activate it and looks like a flexible photo mode. They also added a new camera option to zoom it out a little bit that is called "Retro".

I'll have a video done tonight showing off some of what this update has to offer in action.

So are any of the sale SNK games 'must haves'?

I find it weird that the last few weeks the PS+ sales have been pretty slim. Sure, there have been some good deals/sales in general, but usually PS+ subscribers always get additional discounts and I really haven't seen those. That's my main reason I subscribe..
I think it's finally time to be concerned now that they changed the formatting of the blog to separate out the ps+ discounts into their own section. One or two more weeks and the nail is in the coffin. But there's still a chance it's just a lull. At 6-8 weeks of nothing, it's gone from odd to most likely dead.

I'm concerned that it seemed to start dwindling at the start of the new year so hoping it wasn't part of their plans for 2015 to start dropping the vast majority of PS+ discounts.

So if someone could read through this thread and have a summary of the differences between the PSP SNK collections and the a la carte NEOGEO Station titles on my desk in the morning, that'd be great, thanks:

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=415830

I would like to know this as well. Seems the ala carte games play in a smaller window but include a replay feature. Think I am just going for the SNK Arcade Classics with 16 games for $10.
I didn't see anyone mention this, so I'll bring it up. I personally prefer the standalone Neo Geo titles to the collections, for one major reason: the ability to turn off "smoothing", for a more pixelly (and to me more authentic) look to the games. The "smoothing" on/off feature can be found in the screen options for the standalone games, where you can also change the aspect ratio (4:3, Original Pixel, or Wide).

The collections don't include this ability at all, a huge oversight in my opinion. The standalone games were ported by M2, which is well known to do great work on retro ports. Every standalone game as the option to turn smoothing off, a great feature if you like the look of the original games and don't want an artifical smoothing filter automatically running over the game.

I own almost every Neo Geo title on PSN, although I didn't have SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1, which I will be buying on this sale. Samurai Shodown Anthology and Metal Slug Anthology are both WELL worth the price though, they are GREAT collections with some of the best Neo Geo games ever made, even if they aren't as well ported as the standalone games.

Okay, I did the in-depth analysis and complex mathematics to figure out how we're doing on PS+ sales year over year. Here are my findings:

Frisky, what do the next two weeks look like based on 2014 and 2013? I noticed there was a spike in the middle of the month in January... is that normally the trend? If so, then I'm guessing that there will be something this week or next week. FYI, Chinese New Year is next thursday, so maybe something to coincide with that holiday?

That's where the post holiday sale usually hits. Can't remember off the top of my head if we usually get another big one between now and the golden sale.

Yep, you've forgotten the 20th Anniversary sale from a month ago:

I would not question Frisky and his data in regards to PS store info as he does his research before posting.

BTW, thank you for mentioning the Resogun update as I am doing this now.

I think, if you are like me and own just a PS4, then that's probably why the PS+ sales have seemed nonexistent. The big 20th anniversary sale had almost nothing for PS4 and don't say it 's due to not having as many games. There are plenty of indie games in particular that could have been part of that sale.

So, yeah, I'd say PS4 owners, especially new ones, kind of feel like it's been lacking.

With more people paying to play online, there unfortunately just isn't any incentive to push publishers for discounts. Shouldnt surprise anyone
Discounts push sales of games, which is profitable to both Sony and the publishers. Paying for ps+ has little relevance to the situation, it's a red herring of an issue. The discounts don't exist to sell PS+, they exist to sell games.

Feel free to question my method or suggest other metrics to judge this "there are no PS+ sales anymore" claim that some people are making around here, but these simple stats suggest otherwise and that you might want to be a little less impatient.
I'm very patient, and have been telling other people to be patient. I wasn't concerned at all till they changed this months blog formatting.

However, I do take a slight issue with your metric. First, it's unavoidably a bit misleading due to the anniversary sale. But more importantly, I think the issue isn't just 'how many games are on ps+ discount' per week, but rather, what percent of games on sale ALSO have an additional ps+ discount?

That is to say, we're very used to seeing a sale every week, and for as long as I can remember, it felt like almost every single game had an additional ps+ discount. So if 10 games were on sale, 8-10 of them had an additional discount. For the past several weeks (4ish, not exactly sure) we've been seeing the opposite, if 10 games are on sale, only one or two have had additional ps+ discounts.

It's that discrepancy that I think is worrying people. For example, if we had 100 games on sale this week, but only 10 had ps+ discounts, I'd still be concerned even though '10' in and of itself is a lot of ps+ discounts on average.

I guess what I'm saying is I think a more telling metric would be 'percentage of sale games that have an additional ps+ discount' by week, going back several months.

For example,

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/01/27/playstation-store-update-378/

look at all those N/As for PS+ discount (until we get to My Singing Monsters DLC, which is F2P).

Compare that to one randomly chose (i googled november 2014 psn blog store update)

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/11/04/playstation-store-update-367/

Most everything has an additional discount except for Lego Hobbit and some F2P dlc.

PlayStation Online really isn't worth paying for so the discounts and free games are the meat of where the value comes from a PS+ sub.

Sony's getting all that PS+ money on an annual basis yet has done little to upgrade it's online experience.

If we keep getting these indie fillers as free games on Vita/PS4 I'll be less inclined to renew my sub. For me most of the value comes from the

discounts on purchasing games because at least I can keep those when my sub expires.

First Light was a nice start to the year but I hope we have a lot more to come.

I think I'm almost finished with Transistor and man is this game amazing. They nailed it. The story telling and visuals are amazing as well as the soundtrack, but the gameplay is just hands above anything I've played that's strategy/rpg type.

I don't want it to end! Any recommendations for a similarly engaging but not overwhelming rpg like gameplay.

I just wanted to buy stuff. Seems like a weird time to have maintenance, the morning after new sales and whatever start.
They announced the planned maintenance a few days ago. Yeah, it's annoying, but at least it isn't at the end of a sale week, making it hard to get the games while they're still on sale.

Try out the New Game Plus.
