Speaking of the New 3DS, I turned that auto-brightness off yesterday. It kept dimming while I played Pokemon Shuffle in my office, and it was driving me crazy.

I think we are saying we expect more from Nintendo.

I don't want to see a game like the candy game where they want you to buy extra chances and powerups and stuff.
i want to see something like no more monsters where you can buy unlimited health for like 10 bucks. though i think those days are long gone' look at fat princess it was like 25 or 30 for unlimited.

Yeah I turned that off pretty quickly as well. I'd be in a completely dark room and my brightness would dim while playing MH4U and it was incredibly annoying. Much better now that I have turned it off.

These deals are horrible! I really want to see something worth playing go on sale. None of these new deals are even remotely appealing, but then again neither where any of the expiring deals either. I want to see some Phoenix Wright games go on sale and some Atlus stuff, I know some of this was on sale recently already, but I would just like to see games that aren't called "Color Zen" go on sale.
Just like an Atlus or Capcom sale would be initiated by their respective publishers, the same is true for this Cypronia sale even if their games are not exactly for the hardcore.

It is free to play on tablets and phones. If they make me pay $40 and stick IAP in the game, I will be very disappointed and refuse to buy the game at launch. Instead I'll wait for a used copy of the game to show my disdain and cut out any of the proceeds to Nintendo through a secondary market re-sale.

And damn you all for the pokemon shuffle talk. I'm playing Majora's Mask (and really enjoying it) and all this talk makes me want to spend some time and try shuffle out. My son loves P&D so if he saw it, he might actually take over my 3DS for a while.
Considering all DLC for 3DS games are only available in-game, there are a bunch of 3DS games with in-app purchases. I hope you didn't buy any of them either.

There are, but not on 3DS. :D

Well we keep waiting for Nintendo to do things like every other major company...

I seriously don't think it will have the pay wall crap but if it does I won't be touching it.

I thought mine was broken at first, I didn't realize it jad an auto brightness setting. Was driving me crazy.
I had the same issue out of the box. Why the hell would "N" set the auto adjust ON out of the gate? I can only imagine how many calls and emails they must get about that.

Because they consider it the proper setting probably and want people to know it's there. Probably flooded with the same calls Apple was when the iPad's got it (or changed it) when the Mini came out. Remember that being a big headache for them.

Apologies if this has been covered but what's the consensus here on Moon Chronicles?

Seems like a relatively small investment but if it's truly awful, I'd rather put the funds towards something else.

I haven't played the upgrade but the original was pretty good. Looks like they added in 3D, made the frame rate 60, added support for the C-stick/CPP.

THANK YOU. I thought my system was borked because it does that every 5 minutes.
Yeah, within an hour of my first time playing my New 3DS, I was like, "What the hell is with this screen?" I googled it, found out about the auto-brightness, and tolerated it for a week before giving up on it. Maybe there will be a software update that makes it work better, but I likely won't be re-enabling it. Ever.

I thought Moon was amazing! i didn't play it all the way through but you fight giant monster/alien bugs after learning about a secret crevice in the moon or something. But the music and overal atmosphere was pretty amazing.

I also purchased Moon Chronicles last time it was on sale just to have the upgrade. I'm sure it's now full screen support, 3d support, circle pad pro support.

It does have all the upgrades you mentioned.

But yeah, it's better than I was expecting. It's very reminiscent of Metroid Prime IMO.

Yeah, they may consider it the "proper setting", but no one else does. It's annoying as hell and functions like ass. For "N" to think this is proper, comes as no surprise. At this point, I think they are throwing darts at a board to make most of their business decisions. LOL

Does moon chronicles contain all the episodes for $4.50 or is it just 1? How long is each episode?

I'm not familiar with these episodic titles and usually stay away from them, but renegade kid makes some good games. They made moon (which I'm assuming these are a spin off of?) and the dementium the ward series on the ds.

I thought mine was broken and had a loose connection until I realized it was on. The first thing I did when taking my son's out of the box was turn that off. It is way too sensitive.

But, that isn't the worst problem with the hardware, I love it in general - but the power button placement is major fail. It is easy to tap it with your pinky if you have big hands. Do that and it exits the game with no option to return. They need to patch this right away, either an option to disable the power button outside of the Home screen or an option to return to game if it is pressed.

Is there a specific day when Nintendo posts new 3DS eshop deals? I need to know exactly when to get excited and ultimately disappointed each week.

They always add new sales on Thursday, but I've also seen them add new sales on Wednesday (frequently) and other days randomly. Thursday is a guaranteed sales day though.

Moon Season 1 (Episodes 1, 2, 3 and 4) is a remake of the DS version. Season 2 will be new content. The sale is only for Episode 1; the season pass costs $9 and will get you the remaining 3 episodes of Season 1.

That's awesome that it's a digital copy of the ds game, but lame that the sale is only on the 1st episode. I already have the cart, so $9 isn't worth a repurchase. $4.50 would be an impulse buy.
It's not even $9 because the season pass only gets you the last 3 episodes. That said, the season pass may go on sale, too, at some point.
So it's $4.50 plus the $9 to get the whole game? That's super lame. This is why I don't support those episodic games, too money grubby.

It was a full retail DS game @ $29.99.

Being totally remastered with new added features for $13.50 doesn't really sound all that bad to me... Most companies that remaster charge the same price as the previous retail iteration, or at a slight discount. You're talking about over 50% off here. I won't argue any further as I disagree with your logic on episodic games anyway.

My problem isn't with the overall price necessarily, it's the fact that they don't charge that up front. Put out a game, charge $13.50 for it and be done. Don't put out a piece of the game for $4.50 and then charge more for the rest. I just don't like the pricing model.

Adventure bar can get it on amazon store for 99 cents--- pass on paying 5.99 for it.

Excave---- waits for the reviews. almost got it day one until i found out no levels you just gain HP by items, and it looks like crap
Adventure Bar Story was kind of overrated on iOS because there was nothing to compete with it (and still isn't!). It's a neat concept for a game, but I feel like 3DS deserves better. I don't know, though, as I too have had it for years and haven't played it! I think it gets a little monotonous. But again, neat concept. Google Shaun Musgrave Adventure Bar Story RPG or something like that. He wrote a nice article about it on Touch Arcade. RPG Reload maybe is the title?

Hope Excave ends up being good. I would love for this small, budget, retro-RPGs to be great, but it seems like they are all just very flat. As are most mobile games, really (how can people spend their time on these games? the good ones seem so few and far between).

I absolutely want P&D. I can't imagine they'll release a whole $30 game with in-game purchases. But it's possible one of the inclusions is like a whole game and the other is more mobile-ish? I don't know. I want to preorder, but there's no info yet on the game. Also, I don't want to pay more than $29.99.
What is the draw with P&D? Sell it to me. I tried the iOS version, and I really had no interest at all.

Speaking of the New 3DS, I turned that auto-brightness off yesterday. It kept dimming while I played Pokemon Shuffle in my office, and it was driving me crazy.
Totally screwed up my quotes here. I was originally quoting someone else who said Nintendo throws darts at a dartboard to make decisions. Where did that quote go? I am about as bad as Nintendo.

This is one of their least bizarre decisions (I won't pretend like they don't make bizarre, dartboard decisions though, because they sure do seem to at times). It works perfectly on iDevices. I think the issue with the 3DS is that there are only 5 brightness settings. Meanwhile on iOS, it's a sliding bar, so it can situate itself anywhere on a wide continuum. On the 3DS, it only has 5 choices, so the "best'" choice it makes is often way too dark. All they'd have to do is calibrate it so it chooses the brighter option rather than the darker option when there's a conflict, or maybe even make it a sliding continuum like it is on iOS instead of 5 static options.

Yeah, they may consider it the "proper setting", but no one else does. It's annoying as hell and functions like ass. For "N" to think this is proper, comes as no surprise. At this point, I think they are throwing darts at a board to make most of their business decisions. LOL
But in general, auto-brightness is a good thing. I leave mine on, and if it does the whole too dark business, or if it starts switching rapidly (which is the same problem--it is torn between two settings and chooses the darker), I simply turn it off, then turn it back on again later.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the power button. You can use it to turn the system on, even when it's closed. But, when it's closed, the power button will not turn it off. Unfortunately, yes, if you somehow manage to press it while playing, that is a problem, as it was with the previous designs as well. I never managed to do that, but I did often crank the volume to max by accident. Really glad they moved the volume thing, but why they don't figure something out with the power button, I'm not sure. Hasn't been an issue with me, but yeah, if you are someone who holds the system with any of your fingers in the vicinity, I can see how that would be a huge problem.

Actually I think it's a better option to only pay 4.50 for the first episode of the game. If someone were to buy the full game @ $13.50 and didn't like it, well, they're out $13.50. By having it episodic, if you don't like the game, you're only out $4.50. But sure, if you think it's better to pay the full price for the entire game and ends up you don't like it, be my guest to be out $13.50 instead of $4.50. Whatever floats your boat!

That's a good point. I would just rather have the whole game be on sale rather than a part of it.

This. It was a decent game to begin with and it seems like they've done a fair amount on it to justify the price. Upgraded graphics, 3D support, 60 FPS with 3D on, C-Stick/CPP support.

I'm still going to wait on the season pass until I'm ready to play it and hope that if season 2 hits before then that it will have a sale then.

Just got an email from club Nintendo saying my item has shipped, funny thing is I didn't order any physical items. And I've heard nothing about platinum rewards. Anyone else get the email?

If not for the fact that Moon Chronicles is a remake, I wouldn't have a problem with the episodic approach. When you think about it, it's no different than a TV series, comics, book series, movie series, etc. You try one part - you like it, you wait for the next part to release, and so on. You don't like it, you just drop it.

Nintendo Life gave Excave a 7/10. Says it's relatively short and can be finished in a few sittings. Not sure how long a sitting is, as a unit of time.

http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/3ds-eshop/excave

As for Puzzle and Dragon, if you did not get into it on mobile, not sure what to tell you. That was one of my most-played mobile games ever. I played it heavily for weeks. I just liked the matching, monsters, all the dungeons, all the special dungeon events. It's rather like Pokemon Shuffle, in a way. But there were so many, many monsters in that game, and then you had the opportunity to randomly get other monsters as prizes, you could fuse monsters into bigger and better ones...oh, it was crack.

I'm really looking forward to more info on the 3DS Puzzle Dragon game. If it's everything my fluttery little heart desires, I will preorder it.
