I suck so bad at Puyo Puyo. I need to learn how to set up combos aside from the the basic 2 combo. I can hold my own in Tetris, but Puyo Puyo, not so much.
I'm the same way; I hated going for the Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (essentially Puyo Puyo with a Sonic skin) trophy in the Sega Genesis Collection.

I gave that a shot last night and holy hell. I think I'm going to try the "Press the PS button to pause but still see the screen" technique tonight.

Dont do what the trophy guide says. Do not play on hard. Use the code that gets you to the last level on easy and just play the game. You should get it after a few tries.

And if you go into watching a Will Forte show and get annoyed because he's acting like Will Forte, that's on you, not the show.
The only Will Forte things I've seen before are an episode of The League and of Parks and Recs. I hate all that SNL shit and avoid it in general.

Speaking of the Genesis Collection, why did everyone think the system was so much better than the SNES?  Playing some of these games, even the later era ones, is kinda rough, especially visually.  I don't remember having the same response to playing old SNES games.  Yes Sonic was the tits, but a lot of these control weird and look weird.

Comix Zone is an early standout of non-Sonic games though.

I wish that worked on PS4. Then I could sit there and think about how things are set up and learn that way. Maybe I can find a tutorial on technique on youtube.

Even though I'm bad a Puyo Puyo, I like the Swap mode where it switches back and forth between Tetris and Puyo Puyo every 45 seconds or something like that. It's pretty intense and fun.

That didn't even help me. I'm pretty sure I won by pure luck after 20+ tries.

But the password given in the trophy guide--Y(ellow), H(as-bean), B(lue), B(lue)--is for the final level on Easy.

Ahh, my mistake. I guess it was another thread that said to use the code for the last level on hard and then stack up on the right followed by stacking up on the left and then start dropping down the middle. It assumes you will by mistake hit a large combo that way and cover up Robotnik's side with those white beans. I guess it could work if you have pitfall's luck. I don't.

I just tried to pick a side for a given color group and the other for the others. The pausing thing didn't seem to really help me.

The trophy guide says to play on hard, then gives the code for final level on easy, so it's confused. It's kind of a shitty overall guide in general.

Not sure where you got that but I never heard anyone say the Genesis was better than SNES. The Genesis was older hardware. The only thing Genesis did better were sports games cause of faster speed or something. Colors and graphics were almost always much better on SNES since it was a couple years newer.

Oh and Comix Zone only looked as good as it did because it was reeleased later in the Genesis life. A few of the games on that collection were really early and made in the late 80s.

And I only had a Genesis most of my childhood.

I thought there was a group that said Genesis was way better. Maybe I'm making that up. I guess the whole Nintendon't campaign was based on game content, not hardware and graphics and Mode 7 and scaling and rotation.

In general, I think the reason so many seemed to say Genesis was better was because like most console generations Nintendo's competition catered to a much wider audience than Nintendo did.

I don't recall seeing Genesis > SNES as a generally held opinion. Maybe some people preferred Sonic over Mario. I will say that Rock & Roll Racing was better on Genesis, but other than Sonic the only exclusives I recall liking on Genesis were the Shining games and King's Bounty.

I am sure there are dumbass fanbois that think that but SNES def had better graphics and probably overall better games. That doesnt mean I didnt have hella fun with my Genesis though. And there were great games like Sonic etc.

And I am not saying you cant like the Genesis better than the SNES.

I never actually owned a Genesis, but had a few friends that had one. Our staples were Sonic & Sonic Spinball of course, and Lakers Vs Celtics. Oh and a little Sports Talk Football staring Joe Montana.

But the gem, and one I'm pissed isn't on the compilation, or shit even remade by now, is Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. That game was awesome.

This might be the first time I have seen a score line at the top of ESPN's page that was more boring than during the heart of baseball season.  All that is on there is a cricket score.

I will have to remember this next time I say that baseball is the worst.

Oh man I loved all those games. I owned them all. Did you ever get to play Jordan vs Bird? That shit was awesome too. Although I honestly cant remember if I played it on NES or Genesis...

I know I played Bird vs. Dr J on the ol' Commodore 64 or whatever other fancy PC we had in the early 90s. And then played Jordan Vs Bird on the NES with their fancy dunk inputs. Those games were also tits.

EDIT: yeah buddy Gator'd! He' knows the biznes

Change your share button to do screenshots and then share-pause-look at screenshot?

Yeah, that's a good idea.

Meanwhile I found this site that has tutorials on creating chains from beginner to expert:

http://puyonexus.net/wiki/Main_Page

The beginner level "blocking" technique sounds doable, but I'm sure it's going to go to hell once I actually try to do it. Plus in competitive play there are the blobs that get dropped on you and those mess plans up.

I had a Genesis in college solely for the sports games.  We'd have competitions with Madden, World Series and Triple Play Baseball, NHL, NBA, and Coach K's.  Wasn't into RPGs back then.  A roommate of mine for a semester had a SNES and there were a bunch of Mario Kart competitions.  It wasn't until I bought a Playstation from a guy in the dorm and then bought Suikoden after reading some reviews that my RPG interest blew up.

People can say what they want about the sound on that album but I'll take that production 100x over St. Anger and Death Magnetic.
Ill give you St. Anger of course, but what was wrong with Death Magnetic? Bass was maybe a little low, but the drums were fixed mostly and I didn't think it sounded weird at all.

Not that I think AJFA is a bad sound or anything, daddy just likes his bass.

Liked for Coach K and World Series Baseball. I wasted so much time doing fantasy drafts in that game. I think that might've been the first game to allow you to do that.

I had a Genesis and at the time I was a fanboy. Definitely espoused Sonic > Mario viewpoint.
That was the one point in time where that argument at least wasn't insane. What gets me are the people who still try to say that. I am sorry, but Sega has all but killed Sonic. Outside of the racing game series and Generations, most of the games with Sonic as of late have been garbage.

well that blows.
It's because people can invade / do coop in your game. If it's like past souls game, unless you are in the middle of an invasion, you can bring up the menu, select save&quit and you will quit out of the game. Then when you boot back up you'll be exactly where you were standing when you quit and any enemies you have killed will still be dead.

One nice change is now the area you do repairs and upgrades is a completely safe area. In past souls games you swap magic, do repairs, and some minor upgrades at the bonfire checkpoints, but people could still invade your game unless you were at the main hub bonfire, firelink shrine/majula. So you could be in the middle of changing some things and get cut-off abruptly from the bonfire menu due to an invader.

Each console had great exclusive games. The main thing I preferred with genesis over the snes was definitely the music. Genesis has a completely different sound than snes and its fantastic. Check out music from games like ToeJam and Earl (which unfortunately isn't included in that collection), Echo, Streets of Rate, Phantasy Star, Beyond Oasis, etc. Not even close to snes.

The main thing I noticed while playing that collection is the kickin' music in a few of the games, most notably the two Eccos and Phantasy Star IV.

This guy here, he gets it.
