The few AR challenges I've done haven't been hard at all. If you've done previous Arkham games, this one shouldn't be any different. So far I'm seeing that they're easier than previous games, and there aren't nearly as many. This will probably end up being the easiest plat of the series.

Huh. I try to news as little as possible, but somebody retweeted this. Not sure what impact it has on the individual states and how the ruling goes into effect, but this seems like a good thing.

Impact on individual states is that marriage equality is in all 50 states now. States don't get to determine that shit anymore.

fuck yeah to the SCOTUS!

Gay couples were registering for marriage licenses in Texas today. I assume they still need it to be signed and then filed. But looks like it is happening even in Texas which was one of the states fighting this tooth and nail.

So yeah it looks like the states holding out now have to marry gay couples. Wish there was direct link to the story since in a few hours or a day it will move off the front page.

I mean, can the individual states challenge it somehow? Is it an immediate change, like two dudes can go to the courthouse next week if they want? Stuff like that.

My understanding is that states can't challenge it or make laws banning it anymore. Not sure about when it goes into effect, but it seems like immediately.

5-4 vote haven't read the breakdown but I'd wager the 4 dissenting votes were by the conservatives on the bench.

Here's the thing. No one likes being discriminated against. Growing up Catholic and going to a Catholic School for about half of those years, the biggest thing I took away from the Bible was Do unto others as you would have done unto you. Therefore, don't tell someone they can't do something because of their gender, race, creed, etc because you obviously would be crying foul if the rule was the opposite - no marriage for straight people. Seems simple enough but in the 300 plus years this country's existed, it's been anything but.

The reason discrimination is so widespread is because, as much as people hate to be discriminated against, they love discriminating against others even more.

One of the swing votes (Kennedy) is a Catholic appointed by Reagan. He actually apparently did a lot to help gay rights in the past (I didn't know that till today). But yeah the 4 that voted against I am a pretty sure are all Conservatives.

Against were Roberts, Scalia, Alito and Thomas. All were appointed by Republican presidents and all are listed at Roman Catholics on Wikipedia.

Which I suppose is like how bullies work. Those who bully often are bullied in some other aspect of their current lives or in the past.

I've read at least two articles about this now that have called the ruling a "huge blow to conservatives."

I really wish people would stop being so stupid and assuming that all conservatives think alike. It drives me up a wall when you have an opinion on something and people automatically think they can pinpoint your political leaning because of one thing.

Oh you support gay marriage? Must be a dirty liberal! You can lean conservative and still support gay marriage, idiots.

Yup. I was a registered republican till a few years ago. At 18 when I registered to vote I thought it was the lesser of two evils. I didn't believe all their nonsense and certainly don't go for all the liberal views on the other side. A few years ago when I had to reregister (moved) decided neither party really represented me so I decided to become independent. Someone who makes a decent wage but not a millionaire.

I consider myself moderate. I have some liberal view points on some issues and some conservative view points on other issues.

Either way I don't want churches making laws though.

A dissenting opinion was written by each of the four conservative judges.
yeah that's pretty wild. I've been reading through them a bit this morning and while I'll always appreciate the eloquence justices write with, they don't make any effort to hide their frustration. I kinda get the arguments of bench ruling and taking power from the states and blah blah blah - I just think that most rational people that are elated by this news care less about states' rights and more about treating all people with respect. it's totally absurd in 2015 for people that are gay and married to have to avoid living in a state because of their individual laws. they should be avoiding them because of the stereotypes of the people that live there instead.

seriously though, I couldn't be happier to see this news today.

Yeah I was going to say even without reading them I am sure they all put their Ivy league educations to good work and cited States rights as a reason to dissent which is largely BS. They very likely do not believe gays should get married and just wanted to pass this back to the states again.

did you like the first one? If so I am sure you'll still like it.
It was alright, but I much prefer waiting the 3-4 months for a Blu Ray release and watching from home. I only ever bother with the theater for Marvel movies (and Star Wars later this year). Not to mention the obvious cost savings.

Scalia's opinion is the equivalent to a little boy stomping his feet after his mom tells him he can't keep kicking the dog.  What a douche canoe.

Yeah we don't go to the movies too often. My wife doesn't like how loud these action movies get plus we both hate most of the douche bags who end up going to movies when we go and the expense.

I can only think of two or three movies my wife has asked to go to in like 8 years so we will go to Ted 2. I am sure I will enjoy it unless the screwed up badly.

I'd never tell someone how to vote or how to form their opinion, but I will say you're pretty stupid if you're voting for someone solely because they're democrat or republican or libertarian or whatever. Just because you think you fall into a certain party, or are even registered with a certain party, doesn't mean you have to vote for the candidate from that party. Vote based on the candidates stance on issues and political policies/ideals, not just because of the party tag next to their name.

That's all I have to say about politics today.

The reason why it was pretty much inevitable is too many additional rights are conferred upon people joined in marriage that are not available to simple cohabitating couples. Everything from extra tax credits for filing jointly, next of kin rights for hospital visits,  joint adoption rights, death benefits, insurance, inheritance, etc. If marriage was simply a religious institution that didn't confer all those additional rights and protections by the government those in opposition might have a leg to stand on, but it isn't, so they don't.

You're lucky. My wife likes to go at least twice a month and then wonders why her expenses are so high...

I didn't expect to like the first Ted.  My initial thought was - Seth McFarland wrote a stupid movie about some stupid talking foul mouthed Teddy Ruxpin, this will be shit like that upcoming Dumb and Dumber sequel.  I was surprised by how funny I found it and thought it was great.  Definitely hope the 2nd one is close to it.

We have have the middle tier TV package on FiOS (I think anyway). I would be fine with the lower tier. However there are channels my wife watches a lot that aren't on the low tier. She would like to top tier but compromised. I figure I spend a few bucks on video games but try to keep it under some sort of control can't expect her give up all the channels that make her happy.

Really hard sometime to strike a balance.

That's awesome that most of you guys are positive about all this. It is pretty awesome. Pridefest this year is gonna be a riot :)
It's Pride weekend in MInneapolis starting today. Damn great timing. Glad to see they can celebrate this all weekend.

Ain't no party like a marriage equality party.

I agree you should pay attention to what the individual candidate says. But to be a cynical voice of cynicism, most candidates these days are too damn scared to stray from what the big party lines. So if you identify as Democrat or Republican, chances are good the candidate representing that party is going to have the same ideals as you. Candidates don't dare make too big of an individual stand because then they'd lose a good portion of that sweet sweet campaign money.

But many people are following yours and jimbo's advice and becoming independents while they try to swim through the bullshit parade that is modern day politics. And good on them and anyone that finds out more about the people they're voting for.

#FreedomFriday?

Id been going to pridefest for past 20 years. In stl it is just a big party and this year it will be even more awesome.

Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do - The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in a Free Society. Peter McWilliams is rolling in his grave. If he could see the progress we have made at getting rid of laws based on religion/bigotry/racism he would be elated.

One of the best books I have ever read. Check it out if you havn't already.

anyone else grab toejam and earl 2 panic on funkotron? or am i speed running this one solo like last time? ;)
I'll be getting that along with most the sonic/Sega games I don't have.

Our pride fest was a few weeks ago already. It's celebrated on the street that I work on downtown which is filled with gay bars. I'm happy to hear the news as it wasn't legal in Wisconsin yet. Just can't believe it took so long.
