Is this a problem for anyone besides you trophy people? I can't imagine the average gamer is sitting there saying "God this game has too much stuff to do. I never should have bothered playing it"
I think it's more of a problem for older folks with families/other obligations who played games a lot as kids than for the trophy people. Even when you absolutely know you'll love a game it's a pretty big turn-off to know that it'll take you the next three months to get through the main campaign and any auxiliary stuff that you want to do.

re rev 2 is my current example - I've enjoyed every resident evil game since 4 that I've played and I really want to finish this one and see it get good. If I would've known that it would take me months of sneaking an hour in in the morning before the kids came down (because it doesn't work over remote play) I probably wouldn't have started it. Any game like final fantasy that's a guaranteed 30+ hour game and isn't on the vita is pretty much a non-starter for me now.

I think all the devs are on NeoGaf because it seems like all the people on there like to perform verbally fellatio on them. If anyone dares say anything negative, out come the torches and pitchforks.
When too many like minded people collect and dissent is squashed it becomes the echo chamber effect. I'm one of those delusional people who thought Serenity was going open big because I was on a Firefly forum at the time, and EVERYONE'S talking about how "everyone they know is going to see it!" and then it got beaten by a holdover from the previous week and I was crushed because that meant there wouldn't be any more. That Dev is definitely forehead deep in echo chamber delusion.

Maybe simmias should start playing some harder games.
Or stop caring about completing everything.

eh, to each their own... I've been playing *shudder* a mobile game for the past week.

I'll drop it now since I know we drug this thread around a bunch yesterday, but that dude kwisc did a really great job of bringing the dev back down to earth. English apparently isn't his first language but he was pretty solid at getting the point across that when you're idealistic and refuse to cater to the market at all you've surrendered your right to make money. "Making art is a privilege."
It also seems odd that all the while he complains about the cost of doing business and advertising being scummy, he's resorting to the passive aggressive posting on Neogaf as his advertising. I think he's watched too many "save this tv show" campaigns that worked. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that he has enough fans of his "show" to save it.
The more that dev spouts on GAF, the lower my threshold for actually buying N++ gets. It's down to $10-or-less now.

I've started Rayman Origins on both PS3 and Vita but haven't finished either. Probably didn't even make it half way on either. Or past world 3. And I love platformers. Just wasn't feeling it. Am I a bad person?
I am horrible at platformers. But I almost finished this on Vita. Got 19 out of 38 trophies. No way would I ever get the plat though. Got almost to the end and just gave up. I couldn't deal with the invisible level stuff at the end.

I really enjoyed the game a lot though. I think I have finished only one platformmer and that was one of the Super Mario 2 3d revisited whatever games. Most I don't even make it half way. I think maybe about 1/3 the way through Guacamelee on Vita before I gave up on that one.

Rayman is a blast though if you even like platformers a litle you should play this.

"So: with that, Raigan will stop posting from Mare's account! But we're still available if anyone has any questions, comments, or complaints :)"

It looks like still no one has gotten the N++ plat yet. Maybe the devs should focus on flxing the Achieve Enlightenment trophy instead of posting on GAF.

Nope! In the link I just posted he references it again as an 'experiment'. Then he goes on to reference Spelunky as an example of the greatest of games. Figures.
Sage already used this just now, but oh well I'm using it too.

Yo, Mild, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Spelunky is one of the best video games of all time! One of the best video games of all time!

Spelunky gets everything so right. It basically perfected the roguelite genre. The difficulty level is a huge barrier to entry but it's a necessity to make the game infinitely replayable.

The procedural generation is so on point, the best I've ever seen in the genre. The depth and discovery in the game is great. Item variety is great. Scoring system is great. Daily challenge with leaderboards is amazing.

You couldn't find a way to include the word "craftspersonship" in this?

Yeah I'll give it another shot. I'm currently sucked into King Oddball land and I can't turn it off except for the pinball tournament now. I don't know why either. It's a simple enough game, but just hitting the spot right now.

I know spelunky is an amazing marvel of modern science.  I'm not a dummy.  But that guy is and he loves it so that means everyone that loves it is a dummy too!   BEHOLD LOGIC AND FEAR

If anyone is interested in reading another textbook, this time from a developer who has his head screwed on much tighter than the N++ guy, his name is David Galindo and he has posted 7 different parts to a series called "How Much Do Indie PC Devs Make, Anyway?" over the last 5 years.

http://gamasutra.com/blogs/DavidGalindo/20100724/87650/How_much_do_indie_PC_devs_make_anyways.php (Part 1)

It's quite an uplifting story. His first entry was posted in July 2010, he released a $15 game called Oil Blue which sold 122 copies and netted him about $1600 in its first month on the market, which he was fairly happy with. I won't give away way too much, but his next game Cook Serve Delicious blew up on PC and has made him more than $600,000 in the last 2.5 years.

Its really an interesting read, especially some of the older stuff where he talks about his strategies, press communications, distribution outlets, etc. and how he got his big break. All 7 parts are going to take a while but I think they're worth reading.

SMG2 is definitely better than the first. I felt like I was finally playing a 3D Super Mario World. Removing the hub in favor of a traditional level-select mechanic probably helped.
I actually preferred SMG1 and the hub world over the level select stuff in SMG2. I also felt like the green stars in SMG2 were shoe-horned in like what Mild was saying about Rayman Legends. Besides Sunshine, its the only mainline Super Mario game that I didn't 100% (not including the WiiU ones). The green stars were just in dumb and annoying locations and didn't feel fun to me.

I wish Derek Yu (Spelunky dev) would give some hint as to what vidya game he's working on now, if any. I've been following him on twitter for a long time and no clues given.

Though a large part of that is maintenance so once you have the first phase of your vault built it makes a good game to play while watching TV shows or movies. Set up a 3 wide room with well armed dwellers as the first room off the vault and you won't even have to watch for raider attacks.

So as cable and living room viewing continues to decline and streaming rises are they still going to call them "television" shows like they still call audio shows downloaded from the internet "podcasts" even though hardly anyone has ipods anymore?

That's quite the tyler-velo sandwich right there.

Serendipity is the one New Glarus one on there I haven't had. Liked both the Raspberry Tart and the Belgian Red. I think I liked the Belgian Red a little better, but both blew away my expectations for a fruit beer. Both tasted great and went down easy.

Another friend on untappd informed me that the Pseudo Sue is available in MN now so I'll definitely seek that out, along with the others Crazy mentioned.
Yes Zimm, youll never find zombie dust..some places around here get it, but it's gone before it even hits the shelf. Luckily my local bar orders a keg of it every once in awhile. If you can find pride and joy our there, check to see if they have alpha king or gumball head from three floyds, as those are widely available here and both really good. Right after gator recommended pseudo sue, I found it right away fully stocked at my discount liquor, so I'm guessing you should be able to find it.

There are tons of games that have way too much content regardless of trophies. I don't think Rayman Legends does though. All the speed runs and invasion modes and collectibles as well as the multiplayer are pretty much optional and only going to irk completionists. I'd say it's at a really good length if you just want to do a single playthrough and move on.

Can't believe I forgot about zombies ate my neighbors. I lost so much of my childhood to that game. I'd drop $20 right now if they put it on ps4/vita.

If you just want the Dark Souls 2 CE goodies and plan to get the next gen version or GOTY PS3 edition at some point anyway, the Xbox 360 version of the CE is only $25 at gamestop, in-stock with free shipping with SAVER code. Nothing important is system branded, just the cardboard slipcase over the embossed metal case.

Ironclad tactics is fantastic. Haven't tried any of the mp yet, but it seems like there's a lot of fun variants to the vs. 4/4 so far on playing really good/fun games since I started my eso break.

You guys do realize I post the EU link every time now, right? The only exception is if NA posts it and EU doesn't immediately follow up. I've been doing it for like a week now so I figured you would have caught on.  :whistle2:k

Never say never my friend; this winter will be a huge drought for me.

I imagine I'll be playing FO4 for months upon months, and then after Bethesda fixes it probably a few months more. If I'm ever not playing that then I'll probably be playing mp matches on Battlefront, which I imagine the trophies for that will dry up pretty fast.

lol Tyler is my polar opposite ever since his 'isn't sex overrated' post. I thought the 'she might be into me cuz she grazed my knee' was the best, but that has to top them all. I imagine my existance doesn't make sense in his world view. but peace and love to everyone ;)

we are just ying/yang but thats cool :) diversity is awesome tho, i would most likely hate the guy if I met anyone like myself. some sex obsessed trophy asshole that breeds way too much for his own good

Oh, good. I was starting to wonder. After having the couple of times I did that on accident brought up over and over again I decided to stick with it for a while.

True, I'll be gaining fast after Misty funds me the rest of the ps4 monies...first thing will be to autopop another sound shapes plat.

I really liked Rayman Origins too. Some of the jumping was a little wonky, and I didn't see the point of all the different charcters. (they all seemed to have the same abilities)

Once I got to the end and you had to repeat levels for more awards in order to unlock the final levels I was done.

Games that do that are always a turn off for me.
