That's not how this works.

Went to Bestbuy at lunch time. Had a $5 birthday coupon. Good in store only. Checked to see if they Sleep Dogs in stock but didn't. Pretty slim pickings actually. Reminds me of what the Vita section looked like last year. They did have like 40 copies of GTA V for PS4.

Stopped at Redbox and grabbed Until Dawn with a free code. Not sure I will finish or not though. Semi busy weekend.

Car wouldn't start this morning, so I had to take it in to get checked out. It needs a new battery and they did an inspection and checked a few other things:

Needs new serpentine belt

New engine and cabin air filters (I know it needs those, I've just been too lazy to swap them out myself)

Something out rear drum breaks (cleaning them maybe? i dunno)

New transmission fluid

New battery

Total is just under $400 for all that. Decent deal? Total rip off? Keep in mind I don't have the ability, tools, or desire to do any of that work myself besides the filters.
Anytime you get your car checked, or even if you just get your oil changed...they will ALWAYS tell you that your serpentine belt needs replacing. Same with filters but less obviously because you can change them yourself.

I think you can go to advance auto parts and get a battery for around $60-$80 and they'll install it for free. Being a junker driver I ignore anything about brakes unless they're making an awful noise or stop working. I accept the lack of desire to do anything, so you could go to a jiffy lube and get an oil change, top off fluids and the filters changed for $60-$100 (via early bird special if they still do that or coupon). So depending on the legwork you're willing to do you could do everything but the belt/brakes for under $200 and see if they'll do the belt for $100 (the part is like $30-40 or less and maybe a half hour of labor) or the belt and brakes for $150.

Or you could view the extra cost as a convenience charge.

p.s. derp I know nothing about cars obviously, I always assume I'm being ripped off by any mechanic

Yeah, gotta love that shit. You could always order it online and do a return/rebuy in the store, but if the sale price ends before you rebuy then you'd get charged whatever the new price was. So annoying.

We do have a mechanic that we've been going to for years.  he only does saab work and has been excessively reliable and trustworthy.  He's also real upfront about being a bit more expensive because he's the only game in town (a lot of places won't do work on old saabs because they're apparently finicky) so at least I don't feel like I'm being tricked.

He had a guy that used to work at one of those goodyear auto shops and he claimed that if they pulled a car in that had baby car seats in the back they would upcharge/add services because they knew the owner of the car would want to get it back in a hurry and they could get away with it.  whether that's credible or not I don't know but we've tested the theory once or twice with one that's up the street from us and they were consistently more (or found more wrong) than the dealership by a non-trivial amount.

http://repairpal.com/ for decently accurate estimates.

Unlike baseball, I would prefer that at football games they did not sell alcohol. The games I've been too I was fearful that one or more of the obnoxious drunks around me would throw up on me. Football is much better on TV for that and other reasons.
God, went to a Broncos preseason game two weeks ago (free tickets) and I was reminded why I never buy tickets and only stay at home. The number of drunk fans is insane. Not to mention as I stood outside waiting for my wife, every person that walked up had a 6 pack of beer, would stop, open it up, and start pounding them till he was done, then they would enter the stadium plastered drunk... I don't get it.

Went to a Giants Football game last year. Club box like 24 seats. 18 outside and 6 in. Some corporate box. People were arguing over who got to sit outside. I am sure drinking didn't help. Parking lot was a zoo. We got there like 30 mins before kick off and had a parking pass. Couldn't find a spot. Parking shit bag said you really need to get here earlier. I am like you really need to enforce the one spot rule. Plenty of spots used by drunken assholes grilling. Anyway they found a spot next to a curb I could park in.

Glad I didn't have to sit with the average drunk aholes in gen pop.

A few times coming back from the new Yankee Stadium have had way too many drunks on the train to deal with. Back in the day when they sucked and no one went to the games (and I worked 15 mins North of the Stadium) it was so much easier to get in and out. And we were the drunk assholes then.

Anyway I usually only go to one or two baseball games a year. Usually 1 club seating 5 rows behind visitor dug out. Restaurants and food included (but you have to pay for beer/booze). Didn't get them this year. Friend did have cheaper seats for another game but I didn't go.

This year we haven't gone. Probably won't. Wife wants to go to a Met game but the drive out there is insane from where we live.

I have gotten to the point I don't really care to watch it on TV either. Rather play video games. I will watch the playoffs assuming either (or both) the Yankees and Mets are playing.

Weird I used to love to go but it is such a hassle now. Since I don't really go much I don't get into the season.

Oh and fuck ARod. Get off my team.

The battles in Monster Monpiece so far are pretty generic and not that challenging.

The rubbing mechanic used to level up cards is just a nuisance. Levling up doesn't always equate with positive effects, and attempting a rubbing isn't always 100% successfull.

Looks like there's no need to worry about the combat challenges in Mad Max, as this can apparently be done even after you finish the main game and/or clear the camp (the enemies respawn regardless):

Yeah I almost went to BB yesterday after work but got out a bit later then usual and had to run some errands. Then I saw the Sleeping Dogs deal and figured I would just go today and get that. Except it is sold out everywhere. No big deal I had some credit anyway. Currently Elite so I bank point so usually I am not dealing with expiring credit.

Some of their sale deals suck though. Day before that they had some $150 Turtle Beach headphones on sale for $49. Deal of the day. A friend of mine has been looking for a good deal on Golds. So he thought about picking them up. Nearest BB that had them in stock was 45 mins away. He drives over there and they are sold out. Should have done store pick up but he works outside so not easy for him to order stuff during the day. I mean I guess he could have done it from his phone.

Crappy Deal of the Day that almost no one can get.

This crazy gaming period we are in may give me my highest TT streak... Currently only at 11 days, but with a new game coming out each week, I should have an easy trophy to pop every day!  I mean I have 5 or 6 easy ones in Mad Max, on the side I am working on Madden, NHL next week, FIFA the following, Fallout, Uncharted, and NBA all coming soon after, and then I haven't even opened MGSV

Yeah football games just aren't fun to go to. Went to a couple Pats games a few years back and lots of drunk idiot fans. Would much rather watch from the comfort of my own home with my own beer.

How old are you again? You might want to see somebody about that.

not to mention, my wife and I were row 17 on the 50, and on the end of the row. I didn't see a single play because people stood up and walked in front nly when the ball was in play. They didn't stop anyone from walking to their seats during play so we couldn't see anything. I love going to hockey games, once the puck is in play they don't let anyone walk to seats and I never have people blocking my view. Add in the crazy amount of drunk people and football games suck.

That's a nice Saab story.

I got that in normal play, when you get to working on camps in gutgash or pinkeye, or the stank gum camps, loads of enemies.

Shouldnt have to farm that one.

guys don't worry, I didn't get mad max or mgs5.  Instead I'm going to try to finish re rev 2 this weekend finally.  they'll still be there waiting for me on monday.

That Invoker Tournament game coming next week is a free to play MOBA.

(I have no idea what that stands for)

http://www.invokerstournament.com/
i already have this game on my ps4. is it not 'online' yet or does it even work or? I love Mobas. Awesomenauts even released a new character calls nibbs the dragon a few days ago for $1.50 and i was gonna grab him. also transgalactic was an easy 100% moba. i was in top 5 to 100% it, bam

You guys are terrible.  No one goes to a football game for the game.  They go for the tailgate and party.  If you arent drunk you are doing it wrong and thats why you hate it.

I usually prefer to be at home too though.  Or at a bar.  Nothing beats air conditioning and a big screen.

Gator,
Have you had "the oracle" from Bells. It was a limit to one bottle so I figure it must be rare so I snagged one up. Also, I'll finally try the grapefruit sculpin, and more pseudo sue yay. I'm all prepared for the packer game/sons bday party sunday.
The Oracle will likely be the most aggressive version of an IPA you have ever had. I love it.

I am jealous of that lineup. Be sure to drink the Oracle last if you take them all down at once.

That's an interesting trophy card you have Gator, and I'm not talking about the green fuzzball with the mustache. Look at all those trophies of Japanese anime girls in various states of emotion. Even the mustache guy is thinking wtf.

Your anime girl eyeballs are pretty strange as well.

I did once get to be on the sideline at a Ravens game though. I was pretending to be a professional photographer. That was pretty awesome. But I almost got killed (i.e. run over) by a Raven after the game ended and I took the opportunity to walk out onto the field. He was running and looking to the side and I turned just in time to see him headed toward me and I stepped out of the way.

My (no longer) brother-in-law was/is a photographer for them and got me onto the sideline with a camera.

Good question. From their site:

Drinks include Coke products ($4 for 32 oz., $6.50 for souvenir cup with unlimited in-game refills), bottled water ($3) and hot chocolate ($3 regular foam cup, $7 souvenir cup). Note that all beverages on BYU's campus are served caffeine-free.

I'm not sure what "Coke products" means if they're caffeine-free. Maybe just caffeine-free coke and sprite and stuff.

I don't think they sell beer at the U of U football games. A lot of college football stadiums don't, right?

These two posts make me realize everything must be cheap in Utah (actually that really depends on what they are doing with the brakes, but almost anything brake related costs a decent amount in labor).

This is something I've always wondered but never bothered to find out. What gets bundled in to the nebulous 'cost of living' equation? It's strange that things like houses, stadium soda prices and movie tickets can vary so much. I never considered that auto repairs would too, but of course it's mostly labor costs. What other stuff is like that?
