So I've gathered. Music CDs read fine, but initial cleaning didn't do anything for DVD or game playback - now it's a matter of "do I want to bring my xbox into electronics laboratory and mess around with potentiometers and multimeters, or just wait around until I find a cheap replacement that's in-stock".Unfortunately you can't swap out the XBOX DVD drive with a PC one. Drive needs to be from another XBOX. Hopefully you can clean it and it will work.
Looking around, the options seem to be "JFJ Products, or a $2000 machine".I've thought about the cracked disc thing...What about a non-expanding super glue/epoxy? Spooge (the CAG) seems to have the ability to resurface pretty well. I forgot what machine he uses.
Yup, the logo for the movie is on the side. No regrets, there's just some things out there that are so exquisitely bad they're beautiful.Very nice catches on the Game + Watch systems. The Carrot Top alarm clock... maybe not so much.
I have a funny feeling that the clock was designed as merchandise for the ill-fated film Chairman of the Board (to quote Norm MacDonald: "I bet it's spelled b-o-r-e-d.").
The clock is some sort of promo item for Carrot Top's infamous movie Chairman of the Board. Can't find any info on it, but I bet someone would love to own it. Maybe Norm MacDonald: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL0WayC7jW0I haven't been very good about keeping up with posts, but then again I've had a pretty busy schedule and a hard time finding anything. A few weeks ago I did find a 4gb XBox 360 Elite for $25, but that's been about it until this weekend when I had a chance to hit a few community sales. I got beat to some video games right off the bat, but later I did manage to snag a complete N64 and a complete XBox for $5. At the end of the day though, I snagged these beauties for $15 altogether.
Sunday morning I scored some CiB games for the Omni Entertainment System for $8 ($2 each). Never heard of the system before, but I figured they were neat enough to grab.
*******NON-GAMING FINDS********
My first find on Saturday morning was this awesome plastic-molded Halloween lamp. My parents collected this sort of thing so they make me very nostalgic. Gonna be working it into my own decorating.
After the lamp I found this monstrosity: a Carrot Top alarm clock. I got it for $2, because I am an idiot.

Time to start a new sub-thread; Yard sale porn trading thread. So I was going through a binder that I bought and I found a dorm room check in sheet with the guy's full name and SSN (I put it with my stuff to shred at the bank). I also found a girls gone wild DVD in it. I don't know if I mentioned that before, but add me to the pseudo porn finders. I'm actually going to go through a large amount of stuff tomorrow, so I should have more time to post some finds...
If you hook it up and press and hold the power button until you get 3 beeps it should give you a menu or bring up d red screen. If it is a red screen it means it is a hardware problem.Nintendo 64 games $2.50 each
Xbox 360 games $1
PS3 $15 got it home and it doesn't work. Fan gets really loud and then the power light beeps and it shuts off. Any suggestions on how to fix? image.jpeg
It sounds like it's overheating... you might be able to clean the debris out of it, depending on whether or not you're brave enough to open it. But really, those early George Foreman models typically don't last long anyway. Don't expect miracles.Nintendo 64 games $2.50 each

Thanks for the suggestion. Took the hard drive out and dusted it off. Since I didn't have a torque 10 screwdriver just took my vacuum and sucked some dust out of the vents. Plugged it back in and works like a charm. There were actually Resident Evil 6 saves on it from the end of July.It sounds like it's overheating... you might be able to clean the debris out of it, depending on whether or not you're brave enough to open it. Which BC model is it? 20/60 GB or 40/80 GB?Thanks for the suggestion. Took the hard drive out and dusted it off. Edit: So I didn't realize it but this PS3 is backwards compatible too. $15 well spent
Congrats! I once used a vacuum cleaner on the back of a Playstation 2 that was overheating. It really seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the suggestion. Took the hard drive out and dusted it off. I see what you mean I tried turning it back on this morning and back to the original problem. I have to take it all the way apart tonight. At least I know it works.Congrats! I once used a vacuum cleaner on the back of a Playstation 2 that was overheating. It really seemed to do the trick.
I don't really trust the early PS3s, but as long as it's still working, make the most of it!
Ya can't tease us like that and not tell what it is, Slowdive does enough of that in this thread. So I had a pretty good day. Few sour marks... saw something that bummed me out (completely unrelated to garage saling and something that probably other people wouldn't bat an eye at)... still, it bothered me enough to distract me from noticing games in plain view.
I was just going to post that I picked up 2 boxes of free CDs and VHS/DVDs. Now the pics will be pushed back to 2024 and I will send them by holophone (hologram telephone) which I will eventually invent.Ya can't tease us like that and not tell what it is, Slowdive does enough of that in this thread.$
If you feel up to it, give us a story. Season is winding down anyway and this thread veers off topic plenty.
It has nothing to do with yard saleing... not as if I missed out on some games or something. I didn't really want to detail it here because it's not really pertinent to the discussion and most people probably wouldn't be affected like I was. It's just something I was letting off my chest a little. Let's just say I'm an animal lover.Ya can't tease us like that and not tell what it is, Slowdive does enough of that in this thread.$

PMed you on that PSPSo I had a pretty good day. Few sour marks... saw something that bummed me out (completely unrelated to garage saling and something that probably other people wouldn't bat an eye at)... still, it bothered me enough to distract me from noticing games in plain view. Luckily the lady running the sale asked me what I was looking for and pointed them out to me... my mind was pretty much completely unfocused at that point.
Anyway, here's the summary of what I got.
Sale 1:
Mario Kart DS (Cart only) X2 - $1 each.
Sale 2:
PSP Model 1000. (No charger, no memory stick, missing thumbstick, but came with battery.) - $3
I regret this purchase because I got home and tested it... it turns on, but doesn't read UMDs. Anyone wants it for $10 + ship, let me know.
Sale 3:
Crimson Red DS Lite (No Charger) - $1
Mario Kart DS (Complete) - $1
The DS is acting kinda weird. Sometimes it doesn't want to stay on if it's not plugged in, even though the battery is fully charged. Sometimes it won't turn on, so I plug it in and turn it on... then I unplug it and it drops power. What seems to fix it, is if I plug it in and turn it on while the shell is closed, then I unplug it and open it back up and it stays on and will behave normally for a while. I will be able to power it on and off normally without having to plug it in. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these issues?
Sale 4:
New Super Mario Bros 2. (Complete) - $5
Shinobi (Complete) - $2
Sale 5:
Mario Kart DS (Cart only) - $1 (Yes, this was my fourth copy of Mario Kart DS today)
Yoshi's Island DS (Boxed, no manual) - $1
New Super Mario Bros (Boxed, no manual) - $1
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Box only, no game or manual) - free
DS Rumble Pak - free
DS Action Replay - free
Pokemon Ruby (Cart only, no label) - $1![]()
Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (Cart only) - $1![]()
So yea... aside from seeing something that bummed me out and my two handhelds not working perfectly, it was a fairly decent day.
pics or gtfoGot a sweet storage unit last week. I spent a little more on it because I'm a sucker for 2 thinks; video games and records. This unit had the former.
For $180:
Boxed NES Sports set (complete)
PSPGo console (amazingly, with the charger)
~14 NES games, the best being Kid Icarus & Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
6 SNES games (Mario World & Paperboy 2 being the good ones)
A bunch of PS1 games, with FFIX, a few Crash Bandicoots, the first 2 Spyros, and RE3 in the mix
A few PS2 games, including a disc only copy of The Warriors.
2 Dualshock 3 controllers (red & black)
There was also a buttload of fantasy novels, a nice set of dressers, a pool cue I should get $100 for (heads up on pool cues, I've done well with Viking, McDermott, and Mali), and a bunch of CDs & DVDs.
The worst thing about this room was how it was packed. It was a 10x10 and it looked like they put everything in to it, and then added a 2" layer of clothes to the whole thing. Normally people just use bags...
Leaving the batteries inside to corrode can ruin pretty much anything. I cracked open the Wiimote Plus and saw a lot of corrosion built up over the LEDs and surrounding areas. Even cleaning it up didn't help, because it probably spread to the circuits.I always thought Wiimotes could survive anything. After all, there are those stories of a thrown one breaking a TV that cost several hundred dollars while managing to stay intact.
Oh, battery corrosion, got it. I thought you were referring to a different kind of wear.Leaving the batteries inside to corrode can ruin pretty much anything.
