I'm curious if Bethesda/Valve will try paid modding again with Fallout 4. New minimalist HUD for only $2.99!
I guess I'm one of the few that never saw a big deal about that whole thing. Sometimes people freak the fuck out over something just because it's not what they're used to. It exists in other gaming communities and hasn't prevented free modding at all, in fact in most cases there's a somewhat comparable mod to any given free mod. Of course no one is forced to buy them as well. Really about the only questionable thing I can see is if Bethesda was getting the lion's share of the money for work they didn't do.

There's plenty of other things I would have liked to have seen Valve add or fix instead of spending the time and effort they did backpeddling on the paid mods feature. Besides, it gives random yahoos on the internet power that they can use to throw a fit and get their way about anything they don't like. Power that by the way they could have used for more important features, fixes and issues.

Again I really feel like sometimes people just want to throw a shit fit and start an angry mob over something they aren't used to. Like people shitting all over Disney Infinity which works exactly like it works on consoles (minus the figures of course) that no one there has a problem with. Admittedly it could have been setup better than Free 2 Play, but I suspect that was because Valve only has a few different categories that it tries to shoehorn everything into even if it doesn't exactly fit.

People having been starting this huge smear campaign SCREAMING about that game, shitting up the forums and reviews because OMG RIPOFF that I don't have to buy in the first place and also systematically downvoting any positive review for it even the ones that are really level headed, detailed and well thought out with reasons for their review score.

There's no reasons they can't make it paid on Bethesda.NET or whatever 3rd party thing is named and give exception. And EULA is there just that you can't sell it anywhere else.

The other thing is, Bethesda themselves have been doing it for years. Horse Armor much? And even more recent stuff like Heathfire is nowhere near extensive enough to be considered an expansion and in fact seems to heavily borrow from a number of mods. But if those very similar mods that Bethesda stole was influenced by had charged even a dollar people would scream bloody murder, even though it's essentially the same thing.

Somehow Bethesda doing what is basically a paid mod is okay but anyone in the community doing it isn't.

EULA's get changed and edited all the time to fit the narrative of the company.  Let's not pretend that'll keep you safe.

it's going to be a wait and see.  Bethesda is one of the few companies I still retain faith in.

That being said, this is the first Fallout since 1 that I won't have at launch.  I'm in SUPER-C-A-G mode right now.

Jäsøn dude took a short break to sleep and he's back at it literally every 5 minutes. He's like the fucking Energizer Bunny of arguing with strangers on the internet.

Mod came in and deleted most of his name-calling posts. Dev is a complete idiot. At least we know he's not smart enough to even make a video and upload it, so there's no chance we'll be unwittingly supporting him in the future.

Has no one mentioned that Houston, we have a problem got removed from steam for stealing assets? Might be old news by now, happened about a month ago. I guess anyone that got it in a bundle has a "collectors item" now.

I'm not super-excited about rehashing the paid mods controversy again (FWIW, I don't like the idea), but the Disney Infinity PC mess isn't even close to the same thing. The problem is that the vast majority of the content is pay-gated on the PC, to the point, from what I've been reading, of it barely being a game at all.

While admittedly there are some F2P games on Steam and elsewhere that operate on a similar premise, why not sell a "starter pack" version of the game with several characters unlocked, just as these games do on consoles? Because there aren't figures involved, they don't have to sell it at a console-style pricepoint of $80-100, but instead could charge $40-50. I don't think any reasonable person would have an objection to that. Anybody who is going to complain about paid DLC for a Disney Infinity/Pokemon/LEGO Dimensions-type game in a broad context is just ignorant.

On an unrelated note, I actually was happy with the Steam sale. My haul:

Shadow Warrior Special Edition
Shadowrun: Dragonfall DC
Venom Table for Pinball FX2
Serious Sam 3: BFE Bonus Pack
Coffee, Kill, Boss + The Quiet Girl's Guide to Violence

Total ~$8.50 in Steambux

EDIT: I guess everybody can thank/blame me when there's a new Devolver Digital Humble in the near future.

I picked up Magic 2013 Gold since, as I recall, it wasn't included during the last winter sale.

Is it wrong that I don't find myself very excited for Fallout 4?  Not a criticism of what I've seen, I'm just not chomping at the bit to play it in general.

If I'm tempted to pre-order anything it'd be Call of Booty Black Post Ops III w/ Puketown Zombies.  Thank goodness the community is so bad there and KF2 is so much better.

I still have Fallout 3 & New Vegas backlogged from December 2012.

Bethesda, where's GFWL patch for Fallout 3??
It's easy for me not be excited about it, because there's about an Ice Warrior's chance in hell that I could run it on my current rig and little prospect of me getting a new one in the near future. No point in backlogging too many RPGs I can't play; I already did that with The Witcher 3, after all.

For what it's worth, I loved New Vegas.

I liked FO3 and liked NV more (played FO3 once, NV twice to do Legion missions) but, as release date nears, I find myself ambivalent towards FO4.

I bought it during the GMG glitch though so I'll play it this year, I'm sure.  Just probably not on release day.

You just know Fallout 4 is going to a broken ass janky mess on release day and then Bethesda will release a patch that makes all the dragons fly upside-down and you are going to have to replay the whole 2-hour intro bit like five times because your save will get messed up and the 2-hour intro bit is going to be so boring, you guys.

MORE LIKE FALLBUTT 4 - AMIRITE????

Also, what's the uproar with Disney Infinity?  People mad because the F2P part is extremely limited?  What did they expect?  Some people are straight morans.

It ain't Bethesda if it ain't broken ass janky.

Uh hello.. that's called replay value. Just like all the stuttering on Batman was really there to increase the story length.

I think it's a misunderstanding. You literally get nothing with the game. But making it "F2P" (even when it isnt) was the only way to make so you only have to buy a DLC and no base game or use your figures to play the game.

That and gamers are whiney as hell.

Haha, oh Bethesda.

I actually pre-ordered the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition with some Amazon credit in June. I'm kind of torn as part of me wants to test the eBay reselling waters, but the other part doesn't want to deal with the reselling shenanigans so I might just cancel. Doubtful that I'll just keep it for myself since I can think of other ways to spend $60 than on a plastic Pip-Boy.

I actually had some faith Bethesda would come through on a clean Fallout 4 release but who knows.

Secret ponchos is going to be the death of me.  Spoder offered me a key if I show up tonight for brofest,  I told him to hold it in case something came up and I couldnt make it.   My car broke down on the way to work and my usual mechanic isnt available, so now i gotta dick with getting it towed to the dealer and getting a rental car.

Im still going to try to be there, but my time isnt my own right now.

Damn, I hope you get that sorted out and not just so you can show up tonight, but because I know how sucky it can be to be dealing with a broken down car ruining your day.

And because I'm an asshole that can't resist beating jokes into the ground, maybe your car needs more VRAMs?

battlefront looks way better than fallout 4!

Preorder battlefront on GMG with me! $48 after SAVE20-NOVEMB-GAMING coupon!!!
I don't think I'd get as much time out of SW: BF as I would say FO4.

Regardless, for now - both are NOT on Pre-Order.

I got plenty of a backlog of lots of good stuff to go through already as is.

EDIT:

Thanks for Fallout 4!
Did that come w/ the Season Pass?

Maybe the S-Pass will contain a high-res texture resolution pack. ;)
