How well do expansions retain their value? I know you'll buy the expansion and play it right away, but I'm curious as to whether the GCU flip approach still breaks about even like it does for new full releases.

Not posted yet, no. I'm sure the vast majority of this came from Halo 5. If not for the upcoming BF I'm sure the numbers would drop back down. I'm curious as to whether XB1 or PS4 will win this holiday season. Unless XB1 hits $250 I expect it to be PS4.
PS4 price drop hit early in the month too. It'll be interesting seeing which console pulls ahead in nov/dec. Both have good bundle sales available heading into the holiday, but Xbox definitely has the stronger exclusives this season. Not sure what the numbers are going to be on tomb raider though, they were kinda between a rock and a hard place for release dates. Dunno that it'll be any kind of a system seller.

I'm thinking of picking up Bloodborne for $16 as well. How much is the expansion? Guessing the GOTY would launch at full price. Not that I need an expansion on a 40+ hour game though anyway. Lol. Why are so many games so fuck ing long lately?
It will probably be fairly substantial, it was two packs that they combined into one so it will be $20. A physical release of the GOTY edition comes out in late November in Europe and Dec 3rd in Japan. So it is unlikely, but conceivable, they they will announce an early December NA release near/after Black Friday. If you care about the story of Soul's game typically the expansions are mainly about digging deeper into the lore of the world to clarify some hazier aspects of the story. If you just enjoy the combat aspect then you're probably safe to stick with the cheaper vanilla version.

Finished off the second part of the Saints Row 3 campaign last night. That game is bananas. Love how over the top and not serious and weird it is. Gonna go back and try to complete as many of the challenges and other things as I can for the plat, though some of those challenges seem pretty daunting. Also all those car thefts and assassinations.

Anyway I'm glad I got back into it after a couple years break.
The plat isn't too bad. The worst part for me was the waiting around for the survival phone calls to spawn.

I really wish SR2 had trophies. I'd probably start it right away if it did.

I haven't played any of the Souls games or Bloodborne so this would be a first for me. I think at $16 I can see what I think and get the expansions later if it blows me away.

Seems like going from Bloodborne to any of the first three Souls games would be difficult to get used to due to the slower combat. Has anybody done so? I'd be concerned about the Souls games feeling very tedious in comparison.

You're technically only paying $15 for GCU if you buy Lego Dimensions with the discount because that saves you $15 right there. Add one more full price game and blamo, pays for itself.

Yeah but for those of us that don't buy new games and trade them in the first week...

Breaking even isn't worth the hassle if BestBuy can't figure out how to properly ring up GCU.

GCU is automatic. The cashier doesn't have to do anything except for enter your phone number. If you buy even 3 new releases and nothing else over the 2 year period you're still coming out ahead.

I am the mutha fuck in man.  Finished my first playthrough of Dead Nation.  Now  I get to tackle Morbid.

Trophies or not, SR2 is my favorite. The third was okay and I really just didn't like 4 much at all for some reason.

So, what sort of CAG method is best for acquiring a new ps4?

  • Trade in my ps3 to gamestop? (Do I need to reset it to factory defaults first?)
  • Use my $200 Target Gift Card?
That Amazon Bundle with Uncharted Collection, AC: Syndicate and FF Type 0 for $349 seems like a pretty good deal.

I could just buy it out right or put it on my Amazon credit card I never use.

The whole discussion is pretty pointless if I can't really get much play time. I'm hoping I'll be able to use remote play....

(Those little indie games should do remote play to vita okay, right? Teslagrad, Bastion, etc, etc)

GCU is worth it if you buy games in general. Flip or keep.

If you don't buy games, like Gator, it's much harder to justify the purchase, even at the 30$ for 2years. Clearly, I buy and play or trade or keep more than enough games/amiibo to justify the $30 entry price. But that's me (and apparently most of the thread) The 20% off is great for newer games, older games, whatever you're buying. The bonus TIV is also nice, but usually mostly on trading in newer games. If you don't flip as much, yeah, you don't get as much out of the TiV boost, but you'll still get your moneys worth if you plan on buying 3 $60 games at any point in the next 2 years. Or a combo of cheaper ones.

If you don't buy games like that, or prefer to rent them, then yeah. fuck GCU. Otherwise its a great choice to consistently save a few bucks. Especially on CEs or Limited Editions or whatnot. I've personally never had any problems getting it to ring up properly, just have them put in your phone number during the transaction (they're supposed to ask if you a my best buy member anyway) How are we still going over this lmao.

Who buys 3 new releases? Not a guy that rents or buys used games at cheap prices.

Teslagrad and Bastion are both getting Vita ports with cross-buy. Might want to wait on those.

I don't know why so many peeps here are anti GCU. I mean I'm Mr. fuck ing digital (or at least I was) and the benefits just grossly outweigh the cost. It pays for itself in no time. New games save $12, $20 games save $4, trade-in bump on games you are flipping, etc. etc. etc.

Doesn't target still have that extra 15% off right now?

And if you go the GS trade in route, I'd reset it first personally. It'll take longer if they have to do all of that in the store, and they might mess it up anyway depending on if you get one of the normal GS hires, or one of the temp seasonal guys.

I'm confused. Who is anti GCU here? I buy used games cheap and Gator rents from gamefly. GCU is a hell of a deal, a no brainer for most people. It just doesn't make sense for my purchasing decisions. I've thought about it many times but I just don't buy new releases or trade games in when they are new because well, I don't buy new releases.

Dumb Best Buy question. I want to grab that free bluetooth speaker with the $50 purchase. If I use a gift card with reward certs will that still get me the free speaker if I spend $50 or does it have to be a purchase without any of that?

$50 is $50 whether you use CC, reward certs, pennies, or $2 bills.

You should be good with using Gift Cards to purchase. They work like cash on bby transactions. It's buying a gift card that would be the problem.

You also get 10% off on cheap used games. Word.

I'm like you with this, and is why I haven't bothered to get gcu til soon. The last new game I bought on release was Grand Turismo 5. With just getting the ps4, and knowing I'm going to grab fallout 4 new as well as the black friday stuff, I'll already get my value of the gcu. If not for this one push of getting a bunch of stuff, I wouldnt feel the need for gcu. The only other game I'll probably buy right away in the future new is U4.

I've never bought a used game from BestBuy, not sure why I would suddenly start now if I had GCU.

Trust me there's no need to defend GCU it's a great deal, I was GCU back in the day when we raped BestBuy trading in used PS2 and PS3 games. I almost got it when I was going to buy Fallout 4 but then I bought the bundle. I still may get it someday but it has to save me a lot of $$$ at that moment.

Yea I've never bought used games from best buy. The selection and prices are always shit. There's a mega media exchange right next to my closest best buy where I can find almost any game for much cheaper than what best buy sells them for used

I always forget about that place tucked in that corner. I mainly go to BestBuy in Delafield now so I don't get to Brookfield as often.

Outside of this thread I don't recall seeing any comments about DN one way or the other. I still planned to play it, but I don't recall anybody else having anything to good to say about DN. If you had a high completion percentage I'd think you were just in it for that, but you don't so you obviously like the game itself.

On the sales side it has never been an issue. The issue has only been on the trade side. I think they made it better at the POS end. Last few trades went off without a hitch. Just traded UCC. $37 base. 10% bonus $40.70. Plus I earn a few points too. It is now tied to the phone number. The girl helping me seemed to know what she was doing. Asked me for my phone number. Handed my back my BB rewards card without even scanning it. Said the system picked everything up from the phone number. Was almost as fast as a GS trade. Hopefully they finally got this figured out.

I have only bought 1 myself. They are usually so overpriced 10% off doesn't help.

Gift cards yes, certs bring your total cost down so it won't work if your total is less than $50 after cert.

I would get GCU for buying games online. I don't buy a lot of games on release, but I'd get my money's worth out of saving $4 off of $20 games or whatever over 2 years. However, you have to activate it in store and I can't remember the last time I was in a Best Buy. It's been a couple years probably.

I think you're missing the point. If you can muster up the cash to buy 1 new release game at $48 (most big releases come with $10 back), you can play for a week or two, trade it back and get back close to the same amount you paid. Rinse and repeat for several new releases after that. If you don't have Best Buy close to you to go do the trade, then I can see your issue. And I guess you might not want to have to force yourself to play through them that quick.

I went back to Demon's Souls after Bloodborne, 6 years after I first started it. It was definitely a different kind of gameplay experience--mostly it was slower and dealing with inventory weight became necessary--but I still really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was fantastic, especially Tower of Latria (World 3). I plan on getting through both Dark Souls games before the third one's release in April.

My parents live right off 83 there in Delafield. I lived there for like a year after college. It was nice to have best buy, target, walmart, gamestip, kohls, and whatever else all crammed in together right there. Made black friday shopping quite simple.

I can order it and you can shoot me the funds through paypal, if you'd like.
I appreciate the offer, but I am not even sure if that deal will be online or just in store on BF. I do not wish having to deal with BB on BF on anyone. Not to mention dealing with shipping charges as well. The game will eventually get down to my price range. I will just have to wait a while. Thanks though!

I guess I forget that I got six years of GCU for about $9 too. That did help sway me into getting it. Man that was a great deal.

Its a lot slower than most twin stick shooters and a lot of people complain about getting stuck on different things like lampposts and bikes in the environment because it is hard to see. Also its hard to see some of the zombies too. Its dark. But thats the point of the game. It makes you nervous and you have to play cautiously. It isnt for everyone but its a well done game with no glitchiness or real gameplay issues other than the aforementioned (which are personal issues and not issues with the development of the game).

There is some light strategy to the game to get past the higher levels as well. Like knowing where to place your mines and other special weapons in order to survive a thousand zombies at a time. But its nothing that is too difficult once you play a level and know where the spawns come from. And again it all runs really smooth on PS3 and PS4. There might be some light slowdown now that I think of it on the Vita/PSTV but nothing that hinders gameplay.

TLDR, I like shooting zombies in the face and blowing shit up.
