2015 Thrift Store Thread -- Share Your Findings Here

[attachment=18398:IMG_5531.JPG]

$2.99 each, all in good condition. There was also a copy of GTA5 for PS4 which tempted me, but I passed on it. I have enough of a backlog right now without adding more sandbox games.

Re: competition. I don't really care too much that people are trying to make a buck out of this. I've been a serious thrifter for about 20 years and honestly the stuff I like most (mainly older records and older video games) is drying up just because that's the way time works. What does piss me off, aside from people who have no sense of ediquette, is people who are obviously pumping me for "hot tips" under the guise of small talk. I'm not a seller. I buy for my own collection but yes, I do have a pretty good idea of what's worth something and what's crap. I've also honed that under many, many years of collecting, especially records, and if you think I'm going to tell you, the random person in Goodwill who just about knocked me down to get at a shelf I was headed towards, what you should be looking for, you're out of your goddamn mind.

On that note, I love finding old video cassettes of over the air broadcasts. Recently, I came upon a mountain of them, all from the 80s, all Betamax, which I happen to own. So I'm about peeing myself with excitement over this and I'm pawing through these tapes, all labeled, thank jeebus, and lo and behold, I now have a partner, a woman a little older who is also digging through the tapes with me. I may be wrong about this, but I'm going to guess she probably didn't have a Beta deck and might not have even known what the hell she was looking at or looking for but here I was, clearly a man on a mission, and she was not going to be left out if there was treasure to be found! Needless to say, she gave up pretty quickly but I got a kick out of that situation.

I've wanted to get into buying any home-recorded VHS that I see in the hopes of finding old commercials but I don't often see them out, or if I do, it's a store that wants to charge $1+ for VHS.

Also, speaking of beta, I'm still kicking myself for not picking up a beta player (it was only ~$8) I saw a few months ago. I was held back because I didn't have any tapes to try out on it. :/

At this point I assume everyone is a competitor.

A few weeks ago I saw a 60+ year old woman looking up games on her phone. With a $3 New Super Mario Bros Wii in her cart. :/
That's how it is here. I'd say it got really bad about 3-4 years ago. I usually don't even hit thrifts anymore.

I'm not a nice person. By any means. Every time I see potential competition, it takes all of my willpower not to walk over to them and powerbomb them through the nearest table. Especially since they are so pathetic about it. I play it simple and cool. If I'm curious about the value of something, I either look up the value on my phone or take a picture discreetly to look up later, always while there is nobody around. I go to another lane with the item and do my business with nobody watching me. These amiibo hunting neckbeards plop down next to the display and immediately scour though their Cheeots-dust covered smartphones for their value.

Picked up a new sealed Labtec LT-810SE Pro series headphones from 1999. They come with a different set of ear pads and the 1/4" adapter. While I was looking at them in the store an old man next to me said "they're sealed, probably work". No competition here thankfully. Excellent sound quality for $3.99, sounds better than my decade old falling apart Sony headphones.

Usually I wouldnt give Goodwill $12 for an old game but sitting in the glass case was like the cleanest cartridge only copy of DK 64 I have ever seen. Plus I never see anything quality like that anymore. Another guy was scoping out the stuff in the case so I made sure to tell the employee "hey can I look at that Donkey Kong game?"

Having issues with my cell phone and my editing programs, haven't been able to do a thrifting video in a while. Footage

from the end of summer but still cool to check out I thought, a few good finds in there. Lately my thrifts haven't been as good.

Have some shenanigans with some youtube buds in the beginning of the video, so if you want to just get to the thrifting

video part just skip 2 minutes into the video.

Picked up these two over the weekend, Crash plush circa 2001 in great shape with tags was $0.80 after the coupon, and the Nyko Air Flo GCN controller $2.40 likewise after the coupon.

Spent a whole day and all I found was a disc only copy of lego marvel super heros ps3 for $1.50. I was lucky enough to spot it in the clearance cd bin. Apparently its been at the store since September but no ones picked it up yet. Lucky me I guess. Got me $11.20 for gamestop black friday so it wasn't a total loss of a day.

i found some coleco games for a dollar each. i never played any of these games since i grew up with the nes and dont have the console but i knew it was a good deal. maybe i will find a colecovision for cheap so i can try the games out.

That is a really good starter collection. I believe Spy Hunter is worth a fair amount of money (and plays better than the arcade game, too!).

Very nice Colecovision collection. That's a great console, though I highly recommend getting the upgraded controller when you look for a console. I can't remember the name of them, and they look goofy, but they have something closer to a real joystick than the stock controllers.

Went to a local Volunteers of America recently and found a copy of ESPN NFL 2K5 (PS2). It's in pretty good shape. Just gotta do a bit of cleaning.

This made me laugh because I know exactly what you're talking about. It's like the people that walked up on us when we used to camp for amiibo and be like "what are we waiting for?" I literally watched people that didn't even know what a fucking amiibo was buy one as soon as they heard us talk about how much they were going for on eBay.

Target salvage did me nicely today at Goodwill. Picked up a Battlefront deluxe edition (xbone) for $30 and a kinect 2.0 (xbone) also for $30. There was one more kinect but I left it since I would not know what to do with it and TIVs for it are not high. Probably already been bought.

Dang. Wish I could find a $30 Kinect 2.0.

Too lazy to take a picture, but here's what I scooped up on Thursday:

Ape Escape PSP: $2

Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow PSP: $2

Pinball Hall of Fame Williams PSP: $2

Dragonball Evolution PSP: $2

Tomba! PSOne: $2

Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon Blue Team Rescue NDS: $2.99

Star Trek Klingon PC: $0.99

So yeah, pretty happy with that haul. I already had Tomba! from a PSN sale, but what the heck, another copy won't hurt. And Star Trek Klingon is chock full of nerdliness, including "Power Klingon" language lessons. I won't be taking a crash course in Klingon, but it's nice to have the discs around anyway.

EDIT: That Syphon Filter game was Dark Mirror, by the way.

You obviously don't know how much Tomba! is worth...

I used to own Tomba! when I was younger.  Still kicking myself for ever getting rid of it, it was by far one of my favorite PS1 games that I ever played.

Hit up the big ass thrift store near my place again today.

Snagged a sealed Wii nunchuk (without the remote, but first party) for $2.99.

Besides that, nothing of note in gaming. They're Guitar Hero guitars are reproducing in the back, none of which have the adaptors. They had a controller up front for PS2 with the game in box but it was like $30 or so and a third party in box for $20. Besides that, all I saw were two 4 packs of those various GBA "video" carts (Nick, Disney episodes) for $5.99 each. Didn't seem priced too badly, but they didn't interest me.

Unrelated to the usual stuff here, I did get a really nice brown bomber style leather jacket for $15. It has a small discoloration on the one shoulder, but beyond that the leather and trim are practically new. Plus unlike my old worn out $15 thrift store bomber jacket, this one has a fleece inside and an inside pocket.

Since people expressed interest, here are some pictures of my finds.

Tomba!'s really worth that much, eh? Interesting.

I bought R-Type for the PS1 for 75 cents and I was surprised at how much it went for.
R-Types or R-Type Delta? Because I guess they're both pretty costly now. I got R-Types for myself and a friend at Wal-Mart for a stupidly low price fifteen years ago; $5 I think.

I found a copy of Conker Bad Fur Day Live and Reloaded at GW for 3 dollars with original case but no manual. I have an extra copy so I don't need this one. I'm looking to trade, if anyone is interested.

Stopped at a shitty thrift today and picked up RC Pro Am NES for .88 and a disc-only copy of Tony Hawk's American Wasteland :360: for 2.62.  I'm shocked that American Wasteland is listing at 24.xx on Amazon, anyone know if there's a reason for that?

found these games for a dollar each. is the onimusha with the card hard to find because i looked on ebay to see if i could find this version but there was none listed and i never seen it before. i already had the game but i have a greatest hits version and liked the card.

My uneducated guess is that it was the first (and probably best) Tony Hawk game for 360. I'm also guessing it can be hard to find. GS still sells it for $25 used as well.

Once again reminded why I only go to GW like 4 times a month now. 3 PS1s in the glasscase...........$30 apiece! Someone asked "whats so funny in there?". I said, "they use to mark those $8 apiece and theyed still be stacked up on the shelf. Now they want $30 for them. Wouldnt pay $30 for a PS2 even." "Hmmm well those old games can be worth some money...". "Not those....good doorstops though."

I had a pretty good day of thrifting.

At the first store, I ended up with a stack of games for $1.99 each, not all cream of the crop, but good shelf fillers for the price:

:360:

Call of Duty 2 GOTY

Dead Island

007 Legends

Lego Marvel

Arkham Asylum

Crackdown

:wii:

Wii Sports

Mario Kart

I passed on Call of Juarez BiB and Tombraider.

At another Goodwill I picked up for $1.99 each:

:ps1:

Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero - Complete

Castlevania SotN - black label, but missing the manual.  Disc is in amazing condition.

I also picked up a ton of flippable toys, plush etc, most of which should hopefully sell by Christmas.

Picked up a 320GB PS3 slim today from my usual Goodwill for 7.99.  Console only, so I figured it was busted, but decided to give it a chance since electronics are 100% refundable if defective.

Turns out I was half-right.  It was donated because it was "broken", but luckily it was the 99% update loop glitch that was keeping it from working.  I found a workaround to fix the glitch, update installed properly and I now have an $8 PS3, which makes up for the $50 super slim I got burned on earlier this year from someone on Facebook.

I wish I could find a last gen system for that cheap.  I only find 6th gen consoles in that price range, and even that is getting hard to stick to nowadays.

While I'm not suprized someone donated an electronic device they deemed broken (Goodwill has become eCycling for far too many people), I'm suprized they didn't try to trade it in somewhere. Glad you got it working. That was a safe bet either way.

Thanks guys.  I definitely made my day.  The only down side was I didn't have any controllers, so I had to buy one from Gamestop.  Damn thing cost 4x as much as the PS3.

Had another good find today, a legit pair of wired SMS Street (by 50cent) headphones CIB for $5.99.  I thought for certain they had to be fakes, but everything checked out and everything from pamphlets, carrying bag and airplane adapter was included.

My fiance has been saying she wanted to get Beats, but refused to spend $100+ on a pair.  They sound almost as good as my SOL Master Tracks, so they should do just fine.

I had some good finds this week for the first time in a while.

-Xbox One controller in box $20 Target salvage, updated and it works fine
-Super smash melee GameCube $3 case and disc but gets disc read error
-Zelda wind waker $3 rough shape but works
-Luigi's mansion $3 rough shape too but it works

Haven't really made it to the thrifts much lately, but I did have time to go today. To my surprise I found Dynamite Cop! among a couple of Dreamcast sports games for $3. Also found complete copies of Bleach: Soul Resurreccion, NCAA Football 14, and Wii Party U for $6 each at a pawn shop, as well as One Piece: Grand Adventure for $5.

Great finds. Big fan of dynamite cop when I was a kid. Played it in the arcades and on my dreamcast.

I got the following at 3 goodwills that I passed by last night.

Black Ops 3 (PS3)-$15
NBA 2k16 (XB1) -$15
Star Wars Battlefront (ps4) (brand new and sealed) -$30
Farming Simulator 15 (X360)(brand new and sealed) -$10
Disney Cars (ps2)(complete)-$2
Ps2 fat console -$15
Wired silver ps2 controller -$2
And some other random stuff

I used a 25% off (your entire purchase) coupon at each location, so I got the stuff even cheaper. It's great that I got the newest 2k game for the xb1 since I went out that way to buy a cheap Xbox one.

If you were going to sell the BF2 game, the prices are up right now and it can be sold for $60+ on eBay (buy-it-now).
