Oh and on the discovery queue, the problem for us is if you buy every trash under the sun it's going to go 'Oh hey you like trash, here's some more trash for you!'. It kind of relies on you buying and wishlisting things you like and when we do things like, oh I don't know, buying 20 copies of Monster Challenge Circus, it kind of breaks the discovery queue. ;)
I would agree with you if any of the suggestions said "Because you really like Monster Challenge Circus" instead of always "Because it's new" or "Because it's popular" where "popular" means currently selling well in general and not more specifically popular with my friends or popular with people who enjoy Monster Challenge Circus.

RIP Daily and Flash Steam Sales https://steamdb.info/forum/790/
I'm 100% okay with the no flash/daily format. Just give us decent discounts to go along with that.

My own experience lines up with what Valve is saying... to a point. But I'm not so sure that this isn't just Valve seeing what they want to see, or at least spinning it in as positive a light as possible.

I added games to my wishlist. Sure, I skipped past 90% of the games I was shown, but I did find a few things. Unfortunately for Steam, that didn't necessarily translate to sales. It just means those games are going to sit in my wishlist along with hundreds of other games waiting for the right price. I've got games that have been on it for years now, and I can honestly say that I had a hard time looking through that wishlist finding stuff that I felt was truly worth buying at the price offered.

So let's say they increased page views. That's great for product exposure. Success! Let's also go along with the narrative and say that games outside of the top 500 saw an increase in sales. Also good, right? Well, how come the top sellers list stayed mostly the same throughout the sale (and remains largely the same now)? Lots of sales on more obscure titles at low price points. Success? I don't know.

I don't have their data, so I can't say if I'm right, but I think there was lots of money left on the table. If publishers are uncomfortable with 2 week deep discounts, why not emphasize the discovery queue but still keep daily deals? Or at least weeklong deals? Win-win?

I bought A LOT less and, anecdotally speaking, so did the majority of people on my friends list (and others to whom I spoke). And it's not because I couldn't find any interesting games... I just couldn't find many at the right price.

Valve doesn't care about making money from selling games. Their new business model is to have people idle for free cards and then take a chunk of the sale when suckers buy them. Its because of all of your idling we have no more sales. :p

10,000 items is just too much shit to sift through in one sale.

They should just allot several days to a portion of the shit.

Every 3-4 days, the sale shifts to a new batch of items.

The last 24 hours could have a recap of the "best" of each individual batch.

Easy peasy, and there's something to look forward to every few days without forcing folks to sit in front of their computer 3-4 times a day at weird hours for flash bullshit, or forcing a two-week bore-fest the likes of which hasn't been seen since watching the SW prequel trilogy back-to-back..

They have zero incentive to do that now and some games actually had worse sales during the winter one than the fall one. A lot of 6 month plus old stuff I've been wanting had zero discount at all during either sale.

Dragon's Dogma is basically Skyrim with more interesting combat and where you can hire followers from your friends or random people on the net. It's a sandbox game and was never really meant to be a story game but just kind of wander and find things to do sort of game.

I'm okay with that and I enjoyed it.
Combat is better but imho the game world is much, much less interesting than Skyrim's. I guess I wouldn't really compare it to Skyrim because the enjoyment that comes out of them are derived for two totally different reasons...DD is enjoyable if you can get into the combat while Skyrim is enjoyable mainly due to the immersiveness of the world and how it welcomes exploration. DD I could only play for so long because (for me at least) it felt tedious to explore.

Agreed even my wishlist of about 750 items or something was hard to go through. I pretty much went for the high ticket items I wanted for sure and then looked at my 2 dollar and under wishlist and saw if I wanted any of those....I started going a bit higher but grew tired long before that.

Steam sale was so bad I just deleted my entire wishlist.  My discovery queue was awful too.  Like 99% crap recommendations and 1 or 2 items I saw and was actually interested in.  Steam is dead to me.  GMG 4 Life!

I'm gonna disagree with this, but only because both their narratives and worlds are just so terrible.

But DD takes it cuz their intro dragon scene was cooler, and their aesthetic is overall more intriguing than Skyram and its single dwarven dungeon design strewn about over and over and over and over.

Well damn, I thought I was the only one. My wishlist was filled almost entirely with bundle shit and anything that looked shiny.

But Valve don't want to do paperwork for refunds every few days for the casual who don't buy the game at the cheaper price during its "flash days" cheaper price during the sale. That'll tie Valve's Steam Support up for.....well, until Half-Life 3 releases, knowing Steam Support.

Doesn't effect me too much because, by now, I've caught up on most of the games I've missed over the years so it's mostly new (within a year or two) releases for me from here on out.  I'm foreseeing it'll be one or two games per sale like picking up Grimrock 2 and DR3 this time around.

I just looked and my email and it looks like Newegg finally sent out the promised codes for Dirt Rally.

They actually don't match any of the existing codes I have so I may have gotten an extra copy.  Too bad I didn't activate more of them immediately.

Morans, you could have gotten LOG2 from Humble Monthly for only $12.

Hopefully we'll see how the fallout ends up. My Dirt Rally from Steam hasn't been revoked, but it could be a matter of time.

I'm usually inclined to agree, but every once in a while I think paying $60 for one game I will play is better than buying hundreds of games for pennies that I never will. :p
I think there's a balance to it, though.

If I'm paying $60 for a game, it's something that I'll be playing the second it hits my hard drive or *gasp* gets loaded into the game console. That there's also the option to get hundreds of games for pennies that I might play every once in a while is great.

It actually does make it so that I can make a few more of those $60 purchases and feel good about it.
That said, it's really gotten to the point that there's only a few games that come out that I feel are worth that $60 in ANY format.

Now that I'm sitting behind a wall of thousands of Steam games, dozens of GOG games, and hundreds of carts, disks and various other old console and handheld game media- combined with emulation- it takes a LOT for something TO be worth full retail to me.

It still happens, but even then there's so many companies that want to give loopholes.

Ah well. At least I don't go spend bunches of money on Grandma games.

Anyone that ordered less than 5 Dirt Rally codes get new ones?

I didn't redeem the AMD codes fast enough because I originally planned to give the AMD codes to friends, but they never got back to me.

You need new friends who have less of a life.
"Who's calling?"

"That jackass who's always online and trying to give us free game codes."

"fuck that asshole, let it go to voicemail."

My discovery queue was full of 50% off and non-discounted games that were usually bundle fodder or price-jacked AAA stuff.

On the other hand, I think I spent more on games for myself during the November and Christmas sales than I did during the 23 months prior....

I don't know if I trust spoder to refund.
You joke, but I would refund anyone that bought it from me. I doubt the steam keys will get revoked though.

I'll probably keep the extra codes I got for a little while in case AMD does revoke the steam keys.

No, I spent your money on weeaboo kickstarters. Duh.
I actually totally believe this.

Spoder for PC games: $1 for 6 games is too much! I'll just watch 1,000 doll and I eat pussy videos on Tremor and get it there instead.

Spoder for Vita Weeaboo Kickstarters: Wow $250 for a limited edition Vita copy of Weeaboo Warz with a vibrator and a plush omanko? Wat a deel! I better start spamming all my Steam friends to buy it just to make sure it gets funded!

I never got an email from Newegg or AMD and my AMD ticket is just sitting in limbo forever. I figured I'd give it a week and then try to get a hold of either them or newegg. If newegg is giving out new codes maybe I'll just open a ticket with them.

That might be your best bet. Booby probably stole your codes.
