Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Yes, and they're desperately trying to sell them a larger variety of hats via TF2

It's the last box they're doing before they stop them altogether. Confirmed items so far are the Miku T-shirt pictured on the page and the yellow/orange Rin/Len style belt.

That looks more like a portable system that can also be used as a controller, than a full controller. It'd also partially explain how they'll implement backwards compatibility with the Wii U.

But... No. Just no.

The previous image of the controller before these two new ones had a couple buttons somewhat showing (touch), but weren't face buttons still. Besides the buttons, my number one issue is that the controller looks horrible ergonomically. I look at it and see arthritis and I don't have arthritis.

The controller image is from a dev kit supposedly, so hopefully they change it because that shit is a terrible design.

At first the controller looked cool. But then the more I look at it, the worse I feel about it.

No buttons, looks kinda uncomfortable to hold, etc...

Not sure what to think anymore.

Controllers need buttons unless you plan on staring at the controller touch screen.   I don't buy into this being a primary game controller. Not feasible.

ehhh..

Seems like Earth Defense Force for the Vita+PS4 have gone back up in price.

My vita copy at the old price is still backordered on Amazon.

Kind of regret not buying the ps4 version

Oh well,... not a big deal I guess, even if I brought it, it will probably go unplayed for years

Someone probably mentioned it already but this week's humble bundle has Valkyria Chronicles in the average tier which is around $6 now I think. The game regularly reaches $5, but if you wanted the other games in the bundle, it's a good buy.

I hope that controller is real. I want them to fail enough times to either learn or leave.
Yeah, that was what I hoped for back with the Wii, and I always say it was the best and worst thing to ever happen to them. If the Wii had failed as it should have, they would have had to rethink their future at that point, and the Wii U probably never would have happened, and their business may be totally different now.

Sadly, with the Wii's success, it gave them boat loads of cash to continue doing dumb shit, and it also made them think they knew more than they did. As much of a fan as I have been most of my life, I'm ready for them to "fail" also, but they really do just seem to lost, dumb or stupid to make the proper corrections to their business at this point. So I don't see anything helping them long term accept for pulling their heads from their rear ends, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I wish them well, but I've gotten to the point of not really caring if they win or loose anymore. A company with such strong IP's and rich history deserve so much better than what is currently being offered. It's sad to watch really.

Try playing Mario 64 with it and get back to me.
I never had any issues with the N64 controller, although it was a bit on the larger side, I always found it worked well. Play Sin & Punishment with it, and you'll see how poetic it really was. That game and that controller are a perfect match.

The N64 controller wasn't amazing though it had one of the best thumbsticks at the time (better than the early psone controller IMHO). It was hard as heck to reach all the buttons and most of the time you would only have access to about 2/3 of them at once. Did control relatively well though considering it wasn't very comfortable.
