Well, they had to put something out to try to make money even though it will end up in Poopees for pennies in the short term. TW3 is going to take a while and it's not like their trying out a new IP worked out for them.
This.

I figured it was just a way to get people to remember that the Two Worlds franchise exists and to build a little hype in advance of the third game.

BTW, Motoki, the existing TW2 expansion already hit pirate themes pretty hard and actually did it in a pretty competent way. I don't know what happened with Raven's Cry. I genuinely thought both of the games in the Two Worlds series were pretty decent, once you got used to their Euro-quirks.

I too hope they pull this off; we'll see.

The name Two Worlds doesn't have much brand power. The Gothic series is definitely more well respected and revered, with even Gothic 3 becoming something of a cult hit wit the community patches. That brand was powerful enough that JoWood tried to make a Gothic IV with a different developer, which led to quite a failure.

Witcher 3 seems to be the closest in some ways to the feeling of Gothic 3, but the world doesn't feel as dynamic and the soundtrack is not as epic. Of course the Witcher 3 is much more polished on the whole, but Gothic 3's environmental graphics hold up well for a 2006 title.

I think 2W1 was decent (the gameplay, combat, and crafting system); but 2W2 was much improved (less buggy; less issues; game performed well on my system; story + dialogue was much better than the original if that's even saying much; graphically looked quite good for its time). I do need to play PotFF expansion though.

I'll probably get 2W2 DLC's at some point - but, I'd probably be way more interested in 2W3.

What's interesting is there's a graphical engine + system overhaul here w/ Call of the Tenebrae DLC, so I do wonder if also 2W2 might be getting some Remastered Ultimate Edition on the consoles at some point.

Magic 8 ball says "Most likely" if Topware thinks they can move some units, especially as "remastered" versions of previous generation games on the PS4 and Xbone are all the rage now.

This seems like a weird comparison to me. Granted I've only gotten as far as the first two games in both of these series, but the learning/difficulty curve in the Gothic games was virtually exponential (in before Moobs says, "You whippersnappers with your difficulty settings and automaps and turn-based combat. . ."). The Witcher games felt very different and had a deeper story.

Gothic 3 is quite different from Gothic 2, as its world is much larger and the game basically lets you explore the world at your own pace. Some areas, such as the northern snowy region, are more difficult and best visited at a higher level. I like to compare Witcher 3 with Gothic 3 because they are the third games in their respective series, and both have worlds that are far bigger than their predecessors. Witcher 3 has better side quests and settlements are quite a bit bigger, but aspects like stealing are far better in Gothic 3. Both have a good amount of fetch quest content. Ultimately, Witcher 3 succeeded critically and commercially, whereas Gothic 3 got blasted by critics for its bugginess. I'd give the edge to the Witcher 3 by most metrics, but aspects like the soundtrack, ambient music, night time, and atmosphere feel better in Gothic 3. Having to roam on foot makes the world more dangerous and the quick travel system was a nice balance of old school combined with modern convenience, as you had to find the teleporter stone for a location, but then you can travel to that location essentially whenever you please.

Nothing that amazing but Newegg has a few boxed PC games on sale with coupon code EMCEHGK34

Pillars of Eternity comes out to $17.99

Wolfenstein: The New Order comes out to $8.99

The Evil Within comes out to $11.99

You have to be logged in, place them into your cart and enter the code EMCEHGK34 for those prices to show.

Sucky thing is shipping is $2.99 so add $3 onto those prices above. They used to do more free shipping but now they are trying to push their version of Prime.

Code comes from an email but it shouldn't be tied to any particular address AFAIK.

In case it needs stating, all 3 come as Steam keys.

Fair enough. It sounds like I can't properly evaluate your comparison without playing the "3s." On my current hardware, W3 is on permanent backlog, but I could play Gothic 3 now, if I weren't in the middle of 3 or 4 other things.

Yeah, I was going to grab the Wolfenstein game and use the Shoprunner 2-day free shipping, but you can't do that either, so f*&^ Newegg--I'll just wait for a better non-physical deal.

Question to people who know:

is it possible to "fake" a Mass Effect save game for, say, ME2?

I played 1 and 2 on 360 so my saves carried over. I'm not sure I can be bothered to go through 1 again though (I loved 2 so would be happy to start there).

Is there any way I can sort-of-import-a-recreated save to start in better shape in ME2? Or should I just start afresh?

Not sure I can face those vehicle missions on ME1 again.

The Witcher games might have a better storyline, but non of them come even remotely close to the immersion the Gothic games have to offer. The mere ability to be able to attack everyone anywhere (granted main npcs are invincible), the fact that even in Gothic 1 people actually tell you to leave their house or they'll start attacking you and the fact that you can knock someone out and then decide whether to kill him or not. It offers a realism comparable to the elder scrolls games, but with a far better story, better atmosphere and an actual protagonist who has a voice too.

Also size doesn't matter.
Gothic has a game world 1/1000 the size of the Witcher 3, but it doesn't feel like a bland mmorpg wannabe with respawning groups of enemies at the same locations and with disappearing npcs and faces (including yours) when the camera centers offscreen. Witcher 3 feels like a lot of copy paste work with fun quests every now and then, but too much of that copy pasting and basically meaningless npcs ruined it for me. I loved the Witcher 2 for its short but sweet story and likewise gameworld, but Witcher 3 tried too hard to be big.

Honestly to me Gothic and Gothic 2 Gold were some of the best RPG experiences I've ever had, granted I haven't played any of the classic top down crpgs.

Risen was nice too and Gothic 3 was alright but the combat system and the sort of bland gameworld did me in.

You have to join a million Digital Homicide groups so it's probably not worth it to some people. This giveaway actually made me leave every Digital Homicide group I was in. There's no reason they should have that many useless groups, I don't see the point.
They deserve to be sent another box of poo and have more Jehovas come to their house for this.

The think RPS may be overstating the ramifications. I doubt the game would get shut down and pulled over some guy's non-compete; that's the sort of thing generally handled with money. Although I think that Beasts of Prey dev who claims that the ARK guys stole his game should totally sue. Not that I think he'd win but I'd find it funny when he loses.

So someone wants to introduce this guy to organic gardening techniques and another worries for his eternal soul and he complains? I should wish that people cared that much about me. When was the last time one of you jerks spared a thought about what happens to me after this vale of tears?

Could be worse... When I was in high school I signed my sister up for information on the Marines because she had pissed me off that morning... They bugged her for close to a decade.
I can believe that. Back in the day, some Navy recruiter called me unbidden and tried to set up an appointment to talk to me. After a couple calls of this nature, I said that my mother said to stop disturbing the house with his calls (I was 16 or 17 at the time) and so he tried to shame me into joining the Navy based on whether or not I listened to my mother. Needless to say, I didn't join the Navy.

Also, that Evil Within Newegg price is the same as from DLGamer but I can't imagine that anyone here was actually looking to buy Evil Within for $12.

what i find very immersive about piranha bytes games is the animation during conversations where all the characters flail their arms about like they're having a stroke and a seizure simultaneously

That's all part of the Gothic experience.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

oh i'm not saying it's a bug. i'm just saying life would be a lot more interesting if conversations were held like they are in gothic

Not sure what's worse, console peasants driving to 5 different stores to get a $60 game for free or pc peasants logging in through 5 different social media sites to get $1 game for free.

It reminds of this scene from The Simpsons:

Every time I see this game mentioned somewhere in my head I keep reading it as Fur Pie.

Maybe it's the companion game to Muff Luv.

Madjoki's alts even though he denies it

I'm sure it's all a misunderstanding and it's really just 63 completely real people from Finland in one private group for posting tests for his bot and supersekrit Idlemaster killer app that you don't get to use.

Every time I see this game mentioned somewhere in my head I keep reading it as Fur Pie.
Speaking of, I keep reading this as "Every time I see this game mentioned somewhere in my head [comma] I keep reading it as Fur Pie".

Which makes me wonder more for your sanity than the "Fur Pie" part.

ME2 has a dlc now where you can make the choices from ME1.

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect:_Genesis

Pretty much allows you to make the whole 6 choices that matter the entire game.

You can do that or either find someone save online

Could be worse... When I was in high school I signed my sister up for information on the Marines because she had pissed me off that morning... They bugged her for close to a decade.
So someone should have signed him up for info on the Marines instead? =p. Add Mormons to the mix and probably be more then a decade of annoyance

All for being serious, ME was the most disappointing series ever.

What a roller coaster that was.

Say what you will about the ending, but mass effect overall was great...and i don't really consider myself a fanboy of the games or anything, but they're pretty good. Yeah the choices don't matter, but let's be honest, in most games (even those that accentuate how much their choices matter) the choices don't really matter
