I found the Battleborn beta surprisingly fun after going in with low expectations. People keep comparing it to Overwatch, but they play very differently, with character abilities being a much larger focus in Battleborn. If anything, Battleborn is a first person copy of Monday Night Combat. The beta has actually made me consider getting the game, though I still have doubts the PC multiplayer community will be around for long.

The Doom beta on the other hand has been the opposite experience for me, convincing me to wait until it's cheap. I've seen people complain about the loadouts, but that's not even the worst issue. I don't know if it's the specific maps they picked for the beta, but it feels way too cramped. There's almost no room for movement and most fights are in close quarters, which leads to shotguns and melee being too strong. It just feels like a poor attempt at an arena shooter.

Speaking of Battleborn, I played some of the open beta last night. It might be more fun in group play, but solo was really pretty boring.

At least it stopped me fakeying it. That's a good thing I guess.
Are you talking about the campaign? It certainly doesn't feel designed around solo play. I don't even think higher difficulties are possible with some of the characters if you're playing solo, since they don't seem balanced for it. I've read that the bosses do gain different attacks as you have more players in your party but I don't know how true that is. As far as presentation goes, I felt the dialogue was very Borderlands-ish which is hit-or-miss, but it's a nice touch that the dialogue has some different variations each time you do a level.

Yea, I used the shotgun almost exclusively in Doom. Pointless to have a sniper in that map.

It feels much, much, much more like Quake III Arena than Doom, to me.

I only played like 3 matches, so I actually still have no idea about the zones the revenant summoning.

1: Who turns their monitor on/off using the buttons on it?

2: Going from 27" to 24" or lower is an upgrade, not downgrade.
1) Me. Because it randomly shuts off or hits the menu buttons randomly too. (I think the entire sensor is phooey but since it isn't a mechanical button, don't want to mess around too much)

2) How do you figure? My HD monitor cost me quite a bit... going smaller is just that.. a downgrade. I like a big screen that I can read from across the room.

$10 Dark Souls 3: Complete Edition (with all DLC) plz.

EDIT:

I have liked the Doom MP. It reminds me a lot of Q3A+TA w/ some new twists on the genre + series, TBH.

I hope the SP turns out decent.
It just feels so oldschool. I feel like they have done absolutely nothing to bring the game to 2016. The graphics are also horrible and embarassing. Will grab it tho when it has a glitch price day one since 0.01c for cards is worth it lolz

I think most players of Id's game want that old-school style of Id gameplay. I'm talking about that rocket-jumping, fast-paced action-y pace that's been a staple of both earlier Doom games (before Doom 3) + Quake series.

About bringing the Doom MP into 2016 - they gave the game an XP system with unlocks, which has been common-place in Competitive MP. I do wish the game had a FFA MP Mode, though.

Id really has not been a trend-setter in making shooters, setting new trends. They created + popularized the genre from the start - and well, that's really been it. They really haven't, TBH, set any new trends + innovations in their shooters & the genre itself since probably Half-Life launched.

About graphics - I say blame Id Tech 5. That engine can produce excellent visuals, but who's going to really be able to run any IT5 game properly at maximum settings? That engine never was really fully optimized & perfected on the PC, TBH - i.e. see Wolfenstein: TNO+TOB & RAGE. And since Carmack's gone from Id, it probably never unfortunately will be. Most PC's are probably not capable to run it at max & still maintain a solid 30-40FPS with as many bells + whistles going to hopefully drown out any of the numerous issues w/ the engine itself doing the whole Megatexture concept.

It's not a glitch, I leave that for the expert (Madjoki), but suddenly, black ops 2 is on sale  ~67%. It has the lowest recorded price on japan steam store to date => 13$ and is row.

The new Doom has some problems. It features a weird mix of traits.

It's fairly fast, but the maps in the beta have a bunch of small rooms and narrow corridors.

The climbing mechanism (a pet peeve of mine) means there's an overabundance of little balconies and platforms everywhere.

The rocket launcher doesn't have nearly enough splash damage, and feels underpowered. I'm sure that's because it's a default weapon. I would have much preferred it as a power pickup.

The demon rune conversely is kind of overpowered, but I can live with it. But there are WAY too many health and armor pickups.

Everything gives off a real generic, modern FPS vibe-- the stupid animations you can do at the end of a match, the Halo-ripoff armor, the announcer, loadouts/hack modules, the whole visual aesthetic.

The graphics are SERIOUSLY underwhelming.

It just doesn't have much of a personality, like they tried to satisfy too many different types of shooter fans. It feels a bit design-by-committee.

It's not terrible, but I sure hope the single-player is better, because I can't see the MP having much of a lifespan.

Good deal for that.

But, that still doesn't beat when it was $10 at Microcenter for retail box (with a Steam key, of course - since it requires it everywhere).

DS2 the "Complete and Re-Enhance" Version doesn't even drop to $10. I think u would have to wait it out like how you wait for Red Dead Redemption...
By the time I actually finish DkS1 PTD + DkS2 - this might be possible. ;)

I'm terrible at DkS1.

You can use some help for it. Either summoning npcs or human players to defeat the bosses.
Even when I do summon NPC or a human - yeah, I still find a way often to screw it up...

I was getting trashed in the Duke's Archives Library and in Crystal Caves.

EDIT:

#patientgamer
Not that I'm patient, per se. Sometimes, I am; sometimes, I'm not.

I'd really have liked to move on to either DkS2 or 3 - but, I likely won't do so until I finish them in order.

And I'm still on DkS1, for crying out loud.

Speaking of sucking dicks... Or, wait, were we?

Anyway, these rechargeable Sanyo batteries everyone fuck ing loves do in fact gargle balls. Maybe I somehow got 3 bad batch 4 packs, but, after just 2 charges these crooked whores die faster than the dollar store flavor.

Also, I scoffed many, many times at a controller that costs 150 bones, but now that I have one, it's glorious to use. Like handheld sex with a gaming robot named Sheila, I guess. I want to throw a shout out to Bing bux for making it a reality.

I've been using Sanyo Eneloops for years, never had any problems. Could also be the charger you're using causing issues? Dunno

ya, b/c you need to understand the story of Dark Souls 1 in order to move to 2 and 3, correct?

:whistle2:

I hear Dark Souls 1 is better than 2, so better start with better.
Never got DS2 because they almost immediately had the DX10 edition and started vomiting out DLC (that's apparently better than the main game). Granted DS3 has pre-planned DLC but from what I've seen DS3 is more a true sequel to DS1 than DS2. Even if there's some $10 bundle for everything DS2 I'll probably skip it.

Unfortunately the DS1 online servers have been down the last few days. The crazies are saying it's to force people to buy DS3. But, hey, if you're looking to play DS1 without getting ganked but having the ability to summon npc help then now is the time.

As for the comments about new Doom. I agree that it feels old and dated and it feels out of place in 2016. As for the graphics MysterD I'm pretty sure that it's running idtech6 now isn't it? I found that the AA method and motion blur mixed with the 60fps cap made everything look terrible and cartoony which seems to be what a lot of games go for now, like R6:Seige, the forced motion blur in that game makes it look terrible.

I hope that the Doom single player is good but after playing the MP beta I am comfortable waiting until the game is sub $10 as I was less than impressed.

not sure if serious or not, but while the lore of ds is fun to investigate you don't need to know anything to enjoy the games

Dark Souls 1 will always be the best.

2 is only good if you have SOTFS (if you dont just skip it)
eh, the expansions add a lot to the game and are better than the base game, but having bought ds2 on launch it's still a really solid game. dark souls 1 is definitely better but ds2 is still pretty great and worth playing

Also: I startd playing Deus Ex Human Revolution this weekend...great game. It does a really good job of modernizing the original deus ex formula...just if you plan on playing the original deus ex play that prior to Human Revolution. I can't imagine going back to the first game after this.
