So who else got suckered into Severed? Not that it's a bad game, it's just clearly and iphone game being sold for 14 bucks on the Vita. Just surprised it's as basic as it is considering all the glowing review.

It's a bad game, you really don't want it unless you're collecting
I don't think it's bad but it's horribly, horribly repetitive and feels like just a low budget game. Also Best Buy isn't stocking anything for Vita anymore, so if you are on GCU, you will have to pre-order there. It's as easy as that. Shiren is likely my last order there for a good while, though World of Final Fantasy looks like a maybe, but honestly that just looks a bit too kiddy/simple for my taste. Too many games to play, but yes when in doubt pre-order Vita games in general. I feel the physical drop off will be strong after this year so enjoy it while we can. I sure as heck don't want to depend on the Vita memory cards filling up....

OK it's probably not bad but it's not good either. Same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and there's just nothing particularly engaging about what you're doing unfortunately. I love a good TD game and enjoy quirky JP games but it just isn't good at either of those which is too bad.

I agree. Something strange too, I just tried to preorder Shiren, and when I went to check out, it said "sold out"? Same problem I had earlier with Mad Max, even though that game showed in stock at several local BBs, it wouldn't let me check out. Is something going on with the site today?

BBY website has been extremely bad since at least this time last night. I have three $95 orders that are identical and it wouldn't let me cancel as proof of that.

Yeah I see what you mean about Shiren...something is off about the BestBuy website for sure. I sincerely doubt they already sold out of Shiren.

I just wanted to say I just listened to the Quality Control podcast covering Severed on Polygon and what the hell. I can understand casual gamers assuming the vita is a dead platform since you never really see games on store shelves but these guys are in the media. How can they still actually act like the vita is totally dead. It's still getting plenty of new games (albeit not from Sony) and the majority of the games that come out for the system are pretty kick ass. I understand that Sony is itself trying to kill the Vita but as a hardcore vita gamer I'd say the majority of the vita's library consists of awesome games which is something that can't be said for most systems. Yeah it had a rocky launch and Sony immediately abandoned it but still... as gaming media you'd think they'd have followed the vita a little bit better than that.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you're completely unfamiliar with the developer of Severed, Drinkbox. Drinbox is one of the biggest supporters for the Vita when it comes to developers. This game was built and developed from the ground up for the Vita. Just because the game makes better use of the touchscreen than most Vita games, doesn't mean it was developed for mobile. I've put a little over 6 hours in the game and it's already one of my favorite games of the year. Especially on the Vita.

Cause Sony doesn't make a AAA title for the Vita anymore, so that means the Vita has zero games ever made for it.

Thats the thinking of people like that friend of mine I mentioned a while ago.

Hell, this is probably the podcast he was listening to.

I'm over worrying about what people think about the Vita.  It's not dead as there are games coming out for it.  It's not fully alive as the market for it is mostly hidden from the public eye and the genres that are represented are quite limited.   Heck both 3DS and Vita have a much more limited scope of games than last gen... same is really true for the consoles.  It seems like every gen the game selection gets more limited.

The cost to produce a game had gone up and now with the massive consolidation that has taken place over the last 20 years you just have a lot fewer game studios and publishers pushing for new content.

Stealth PSN Deal ( maybe ? )

https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/crypt-of-the-necrodancer/cid=UP1162-PCSE00806_00-CRYPTNECRODANCER

:psp: Crypt of the NecroDancer $10.49 ($14.99) 30%

I didn't see this listed on the weekly sale thread.
I bought this right away. I've been wanting to play this since release but told myself to wait for a sale.

Four of the best games on vita are now mine! Plus there are so many great games for the system in general.

Has anyone played/ imported Attack of Titan on the Vita yet? I found a copy for $15 and I'm very tempted to give it a try before the Western release. If you played this how was it for a person who doesn't know Japanese.

If Sony decides to open it up to homebrew, it could expand much faster like everyone can make some mobile games and have a store for that. PSVita and even home console are losing ground to the mobile platform and Apple TV.

PSVita and PS4 is considered to be hardest to hack and crack, homebrew is still possible on PSVita after a lot of work (I'm keep a Vita at old firmware waiting for a better day), so as there are many people interested in that, why not open it (not meaning to play "backup") to have it bloom.

So

Axium Verge (Awesome game at least on PC, with small bugs and frame drops on vita)

Crypt of the NecroDancer (I own it on PC, and probably will grab it... although the 2.2GB file size is kind of too big for my current card)

I'm not familiar with either

Severed

Volume

Volume is a music game of some kind I'm guessing?

Are both games digital  only?

I think the "minis" program was a good shot at that. I wonder why they don't bring something like that back.

It looks terrible from the videos I have seen.

Why the hell would they do that? They poured millions into R&D to make sure it was impossible to hack and they did a damn fine job. If they opened it up for homebrew, all you'd see are a glut of mobile games starting at $5 that would be just .99 on your phone.

Started Digimon yesterday. Literally fell asleep during intro. Then again I took a muscle relaxer so that might be why. After that tho the actual combat makes me think of FFX, just because it's turn based. Gameplay so far is great.

Just because there are a lot of Japanese niche games for the vita doesn't mean it is alive. The Wii U and vita are in the see boat. The only difference is that the Wii U has million sellers from Nintendo behind it. Don't get me wrong, the Wii is my favorite console this gen (excluding pc and all the games that it gets because that's an unfair comparison) and I own 3 Vitas. But it is beyond easy to understand why they are viewed as dead, and it is probably the correct conclusion as well.

Axiom Verge plays fine on the Vita. I've put in many hours and have been enjoying it.
I will admit that frame drops do happen but seem to be when the game is loading something in the background.

Crypt of the NecroDancer file size on vita is 1.1GB (1147MB) not 2.2GB. I just bought it and downloaded it today.

2.2GB is the combined size for the PS4 and Vita version.

Servered is the new game from Drinkbox and is amazing I love their games and style.
(Guacamelee and Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack)

Volume is a stealth game from Mike Bithell creator of Thomas was Alone.

All these games are currently digital only but Volume is getting a Limited Run Games release.

I don't own a gaming PC but all these games except for Servered are available on PS4 and Steam.

Vita is my go to system for gaming. I play it daily and I think it is a wonderful hand held that allows me to play all these awesome cross buy games on the go. I also just bought the Alien Pinball tables for Zen Pinball and they are awesome!

I totally disagree. There have been many new games released simultaneously on PS4 and Vita, with cross-buy in most cases. These include games like Unepic, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Axiom Verge, Risk of Rain, Skullgirls 2nd Encore, Rocketbirds 2, Nuclear Throne, Bastion, etc. I believe that Sony is offering incentives to developers to include Vita versions of their new games at release.

There certainly haven't been many AAA titles recently, but that doesn't mean that there have been a lot of great games.

And I disagree with your statement that the Vita and Wii U are "in the same boat". The Wii U is effectively dead less than 4 years into its lifespan, with virtually nothing of note coming out this year. Star Fox Zero just released and bombed due to the terrible controls, and even Nintendo has acknowledged that the Wii U is pretty much done. I'd be pretty bummed if I had a Wii U, especially since it's been pretty much abandoned so early.

Unepic is on my list of game to buy when its on sale and Rocketbirds 2 is on my wishlist.
I have Risk of Rain and its amazing, a great fit for Vita.

Just Platinumed Bastion on Vita and loved it.

Currently playing Axiom Verge and just bought Crypt of the Necrodancer today and Severed yesterday.
Need more time to play!

I play Nuclear Throne all the time not to mention the great pinball tables released for Aliens Franchise on Zen Pinball.

I personally think the vita is thriving and has many great releases out now and some upcoming.

Assault Android Cactus is one I am patiently awaiting and bought the PS4 version to support the developer for the Vita port. Also looking forward to the Banner Saga, Darkest Dungeon, Hyper Light Drifter and Salt and Sanctuary.

Nintendo is getting good money just by selling Amiibo, that alone might be enough to keep Wii U and their next console alive.

I totally agree^

Honestly, 90% of all my recent purchases are for the Vita. If it's dead, someone should tell my wallet.

That Amiibo bubble has all but burst. Almost everyone that was released in the last 6 months has been offered for $10 or under(some most recent ones are even close to $5). Yes, they made shit tons of money from them, but I don't see orders increasing at this point, and the way most retailers are dumping stock for next to nothing, I'll wager the future of those aren't looking that great either.

How they price is their and developer's decision. Open it up is the way to recoup that millions of R&D spent to give it a new life. Lack of audience is why people believe Vita is dead, other than a small group of people, no one care about it. New games on 3DS can make headline, but nothing on Vita.

24.7M figures sold in last fiscal year is not a little figure, and they don't need to spend millions in design some figures compared to develop some AAA games. And the figures help selling the hardware and games and games also help selling related figures. It's about the ecosystem

They're for sure making a fortune off of these "toys", but that in no way help the abysmal sales of the Wii U, and they won't help the NX. "N" have and never will be good multitaskers, and that shows in how 3DS and Wii U output has all but stopped. Their game quality has gone way done over the years, if they want to be known for selling plastic toys, that's cool, but unless they get back to making good games, they might as well go back to toys full time and give up video games altogether.

The rationale from people in this thread is that since Vita is getting some multi-platform digital releases and a few niche games then it's not dead.

It's kind of a dumb discussion anyways.  It's just semantics, subjective, and a viewpoint of the individual.  But if you took a survey of a bunch of random gamers a vast majority of them would tell you that the Vita is dead.  It's also dead a retail and has been for some time.

The Wii U is dead but the Vita is not? oh okay. dumb post.

Walk into a store sometime. also Sony admitted they were done supporting Vita games years ago.

I'd love to go over the points about the vita and Wii, but that is off topic for this thread. I'll just leave it with what nothing371 said.

Let's not talk about the sad state the vita is cause we all know. Let's just talk about what new games we get and the fun times we have while we still can.  :grouphug:

The vita is not fully dead yet nor is it fully alive, it's more like a zombie.
