Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

This definitely brings up an interesting issue. It's been going on for a while, but the main consensus seemed to be that censoring/modifying a game in anyway was bad and that doing so ruined the original experience.

However, with the statement from Nisa regarding the changes they had to make, it seems like we are all a bit more forgiving maybe? Or we feel like the changes make sense.

Makes me wonder if Nintendo took the same approach and released a statement regarding the changes in their games, would they still be thrown under the bus for changing things.

In the end though, changes like these don't really skew my reasoning for skipping a game, since I end up getting them anyways. Just something that came to mind after hearing about this game today.

Probably not. Nintendo has no good reasons for the changes they make. For the most part they're completely ridiculous. For something like Criminal Girls, it's obvious why changes are being made.

I agree, "N" does shit just for the sake of doing it. If they spent more time on hardware, or on game development, they would be in a much better position currently. As I have stated before, they spend major time on minor things. They actually have the time, money, and resources to actually deal with the rating boards, but they don't bother.

I can see how a small development team like NISA doesn't have the resources to deal with changes and issues in the long term, so I understand why they may just want to change stuff once, and be done with it. They are in the complete opposite situation to what "N" does.

I'm just happy we are getting it at all in the west.

If Amazon carried the LE I would have ordered it in a heartbeat, even without the 20% off, just to use my credit. Was it stated to be a store exclusive?

Exactly I for one liked the original game more than I thought I would. The punishment game is not great honestly, but the characters were cute, I thought the story was alright and I thought the battles were fun. It really surprised me for making me so addicted to it. It's fun and all and have been drooling waiting for #2 to come out.

You guys make good points about the ambiguity of Nintendo's changes, no arguing that lol.

I guess it just ends being about the limits these companies have in terms of (suggestive?) content.

Like Nintendo has the lowest acceptability factor in terms of these things, whereas Nisa has a lot higher one. (Changing outfits in Xenoblade and SMT #FE vs. changing suggestive artwork by having the original artist draw a new version)

Meanwhile, XSEED has Senran Kagura over here, not caring  fuck what anyone thinks.

I think track record and/or portfolio really plays into the issue as well. I am willing to believe a company like NISA or XSEED only made changes because they really felt they had to, while Nintendo just doesn't even try and just wants to play it safe. Ultimately, yeah I'd want the game completely unedited but until I learn Japanese that's not going to be a reality.

My favorite part about changing stuff in these kinds of games are that the people who complain the loudest are the ones who will either buy it and never play it or never play enough to ever see the scenes that were changed.
Yet the audience the changes are being made for will never even consider buying the game at all.

What audience is that? I really doubt they're making changes for any reason aside from doing it to protect themselves. If they left it as is, I could see some internet hero making a big deal about it and causing a lot of grief for the company. Even with the changes the game still feels like a risky release for them.

Call back, but is there any chance that Miku game for PS4 would come to PC?  SEGA seems more open to bringing that stuff over, right?

Anybody who got One Piece Burning Blood from Amazon get their Pre-Order DLC yet?

Looking around on a few other sites and it seems to be a pretty spread issue. Which sucks...considering Bandai-Namco's past regarding exclusive pre-order DLC

I ordered direct from them and haven't gotten it yet :/

Weird.

Their Support seems to be going downhill lately as well. The rep I got barely seemed to understand english, tried to send me a code for "Kung Fu Panda", and insisted if I returned the item they would replace it for me.

If we get shafted on DLC I might just return the whole damn thing and wait for a price drop on the standard

You answered your own question.

They're giving away a mouse pad... For a console/handheld game...

PC master race.
Gotta have that wrist support when you're browsing porn, dude. You bring up a good point, though. They should find a way to incorporate 3D tits into console controllers. Maybe the analog sticks would be the nipples.

Yes really. The audience in mind when those changes were made were those who bitch about a game's content regardless of a fact that they have absolutely no interest in buying it.
Not really, unless you think that the changes are made to appease those people (that likely aren't even aware these games exist) will think that since punishment was changed to motivation everything is suddenly okay. The subject matter of the game still is what it is and those people could still complain about it easily if they wanted to. If they were trying to appease those people they wouldn't release the game at all.

Oh, please. You said it yourself. Some "internet hero" as you put it, could end up giving them shit. It's not about completely appeasing them, it's about mitigating the backlash. These people go out of their way to find games that would offend them. These changes are not for their player-base. Anyone who would buy this game wouldn't give a single fuck about any of the trivial shit they changed.

So for the final time. Yes, really.

Not really, nothing about the alterations would appease anyone that would be offended over it. What's happening in the game is still very very obviously happening regardless of changing a couple words, but since you said please I'll let you be internet hero #1 today. Congrats.

I've never considered putting it in the freezer before, but if Miku says it's a good idea...

Thanks. I think my hero name will be Captain Always Right.

My power is that I'm right and you're wrong.

Just like the internet hero that would complain about Criminal Girls (or anything else they feel offended over) would think they're right over anyone else. You're a perfect fit for that title.

Not everyone else. Just you.

But frankly, when you defeat yourself with your first "argument", it really isn't much of a super power.

I truly think, at this juncture, you're trying to argue just because you can't stand to be wrong.

No point to continue. Just let ya argue with yourself.

So, yeah, Cosmic Star Heroine is looking pretty great. Hope to see it out soon'ish.

Would also be nice if CrossCode (Web Demo / Steam Page/Demo) came out sometime this year too. Neither are Japanese, but eh, they fit the thread well enough.

I like that you keep posting after you keep saying you're done. You're a true internet hero.

I'm sure CSH will go up for preorder and sell within five minutes that I don't happen to be on the internet. I don't hate digital though so I'll get over it if that happens.
