Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Considering the game completely flopped in Japan, they're probably taking the localization budget to retool the game based on the feedback they got.
It flopped because it's a Wii U exclusive and niche crossover I'm assuming? The previews make the game look decent at least.

Yes. It is basically the first two missions, one of which is a tutorial. Second introduces some new field mechanics and that's about it.
Huh, it's weird that they're delaying the release of the demo, when tons of people already have the same thing through the Beta (which still works.)

This happens yet we still get this.

as far as japanese market being held to number one, its just easier to try and sell for them their , as clearly sales and money wise those japanese first westerners are third mentalty is the real reason they refuse to bring over or do anything since we are looked at like trash even though majority of their money made comes from sales in the west so they just think us dumb westerners will buy what ever trash they send over, case in point of caring is them giving us the bottom barrel of gundams games, not bothering with phantasy star since they and sony or nintendo will have to beef up their servers to acceptable standards or how nintendo region locks or their business practices with how they do things

i always get physical for that very reason since most of the time the game is too short or poorly done then at least i can get some money back from it, the fact they keep digital prices up so high especially when its a bad or very old game is ridiculous, only gone digital when it was on sale and less than 10 or free just to get something from resaling the physical
The majority of their money definitely doesn't come from the west even factoring in the development costs, voice work ect. It is alot of extra money for them depending on the localization budgets I will agree. But lets not pretend that alot of jpn titles sell more in japan than outside of it and their retail prices are the reason why p4 arena was region locked as its cheaper outside japan and they could of easily imported. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if some imported systems just because of the large cost difference between our prices and theirs. There are games that sell even or more in the us that they do in japan but those are fewer in number.

On the other hand their jpn titles since they get overprinted there are easy to find in budget bins which sucks as if they were import friendly that likely wouldn't be the case.

Man I hate when we just get a game and then Japan gets an improved version. Burned me on Deception IV. I held off on getting Dengeki Bunko in the hopes that we'd get Ignition but who knows now. Now I don't want to buy Stranger of Sword City until this gets localized. If it ever does.
I looked and looked at Stranger in Sword City, but I find it hard to play games with nameless characters I don't have any attachment to. I think that's why I ultimately stopped playing Operation Abyss. I thought Demon Gaze would end up the same way, but I feel more like I'm playing as the Damon Gazer, and the storyline even includes my mercenaries by name.

A friend of mine said you can import your own pics over the characters or something to that extent for the steam version if that helps any. God damn you auto correct! I said import not input.

Almost thought there would be nothing this week until I double-checked Steam. The Steam Summer Sale should also start in the next few weeks or so. Apparently there is also a hentai RPG maker game coming to Steam this week as well that I won't be listing. It'll obviously be censored if that's the case though.

If anyone is looking for a copy of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Asia Version for Vita or PS4, the site mariio128 is running a sale.

PS4 version $59

http://mariio128.com/dead-or-alive-xtreme-3-fortune-english-chinese-subs-ps4-as.html

PS Vita version $50

http://mariio128.com/dead-or-alive-xtreme-3-venus-ps-vita-us.html

I bought the PS4 version from them a couple weeks back and it came in the smallest bubble mailer possible to fit the game, but hey it was free shipping.
Well, I guess the "free shipping" is the benefit here, as these are both the standard pricing on Play-Asia.

I just noticed this yesterday. It's nice to see that fruitbat factory followed through on all the human tank games. I really enjoyed the first one. Will pick up the 2nd and 3rd game from a bundle or sale.

Speaking of fruitbat, I wish they would release eiyuu senki for vita but I don't think the ps3 sales were very good so that's probably not happening. Well I'll get it next time the ps3 one goes on sale.

World of Final Fantasy is somewhat growing on me. Still looks very kiddy and simplistic, but it may be a decent portable Vita game to play in small spurts when I get the chance. I'm not really sure what I have for October....Battlefield....eh only if my friends play.

Local Best Buy actually had an Odin Sphere Storybook Edition and a leftover Senran Kagura Estival Versus for Vita sitting out. Got both. No regrets.

E3 2016: Sekai Project Partners with Limited Run Games
During Sekai Project’s E3 livestream, they blew everything out of the water immediately with their first announcement. The company is working with Limited Run Games to bring some of their key titles to Vita as physical releases.

The company have also teamed with Mighty Rabbit to do the porting work of their PC releases to Vita. What are the first games we’ll be seeing from Limited Run Games?

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow when the first game will be revealed on Sony’s stage during their press conference. Presumably, it’ll be part of a show reel – so keep an eye out!
Basically just confirming what they hinted at

See you in 2017 guys.

Honestly, I just wanted them to announce the games. ><

Probably gunna take forever for it to actually come out. If something is going to be released between August - December, I'll be pleasantly surprised. EDIT: Their newsletter said next year. ><

I am going to guess Fruit of Griasasia is the one revealed....but it will likely be something smaller...No matter what I am going to fight for the LRG physical copy. I'm skipping games I don't want, but I hope I love whatever they show!

I feel bad for poor Undead Darlings Game. Kickstarter looks like it's going to fail again. Needs a bit less than $22,000 in 3 days to go.

Link

I will buy it whenever it gets published though....

I know right. The game looks legitimately good/different/fun and it cant seem to get any funding. But a potato salad KS got $50000.

I pledged $100 to them in the hopes it would take off. As much as I would love a PS4 copy, I'd happily buy a PC port.
