The first Banner Saga, as expected, is on sale. Sadly only 25% off ($14.99). Was hoping it would be $4.99 like it was in a PS4 flash sale last month.

Oh well, can't complain too much with the sequel being free tomorrow (tonight?).

Also, don't remember it being posted but Hawken is out.

I may just take the free $15 ebay and paypal gave me today and buy the first game. But then I look at the pile of non-played titles....

Yeah that really irks me. I already have the 1st on PC but planned on buying it now when it was on sale to have it completed for moving over to 2 on X1. I figured it would be the same as PS4's sale but as always it was not... dumb.

It's these types of "updates" that are infuriating to me. Yes, I don't have a fast download speed. Halo 5 is still downloading for me. So after it took almost two days for Hawken to predownload and now another day to install the Day One patch, this is driving me crazy. We all don't live in download quickly areas and this is definitely a turnoff as a current gen user......but what can I do? Honestly, nothing at all. Voting for my wallet ain't gonna work *sigh* / rant over

Guess I'll just fire up a game that doesn't have an update since Viva Pinata BC just asked for a 413 GB patch *facepalm*

Man does it hurt to always be the victim? We get it games are growing ever more massive. But what can you do? The alternative is no more digital games. No more downloads, no more DLC, no more demos or free plays. Just a physical disk for anything you want to play.

Not every developer can create a standalone demo for their game where they can literally rip out a piece of the game and give it to you, and since free play actually gives you the entire game, how can you not have the entire thing to download? What I would do is shut your console off and let it download in the background overnight. It usually works pretty well for me. They're not out to get you I promise, this is just the nature of the beast. You have to adapt.

Where do you live that a decent connection isn't an option? I'm sure you can get your hands on at least 25-50 mb/s download speed through one of the providers. Is that not fast enough?

Assuming they're not lying to us at every turn, a big assumption, it's almost certainly entirely the first one.

 
Again, buying physical doesn't take into account all the updates. And I'm just sad the hobby I had which was as simple as popping in a cartridge/disc during Xbox og days, just isn't that simple anymore. And there's nothing I can do about it. Lamenting can come off as bitching to others, but that's just it eh? Everyone gets so offended nowadays ya can't please anyone. It goes both ways, times are a changin

I live in Southern CA where Verizon and Comcast have decided to battle it out and the consumer is the casualty. Yay me. But again, I must be the victim as you so put it? And yet again, what can I do(as I already stated)? w/e

Edit: Not a rant against you, just saying my two pence cause I'm not in the most consumer friendly situation(s). It's basically sit back and take it/adjust to the new era. Just sucks cause everywhere I go lately, it's well, just that.....Deal with it

Isn't that the arguement that got Orth shitcanned?

I live 10 miles outside a city with a population of 220k and I have 2 options: 10mb CenturyLink dsl ($35) or 10mb Cro2 satellite internet ($50). Oh, I think I could get 3g from a couple wireless providers, or tether my phone. So ya, we don't all have "at least 25-50mb" options. Where I lived before (12 miles outside a city w/ 40k pop) had PUD fiber 50mb connections for $30/mo. It has been an adjustment.

Physical discs won't make a difference for updates, you'd have to play offline if you want to avoid updates.

I really hate this preview,its still showing full price for the free games and that's when I get the store page to actually load smh.

On a side note Hawken seems glitchy and stutters and has screen tearing.

While Cable TV seems to "the enemy" right now, they're also the best bet for decent internet. I've luckily never lived too far away from a company that provides service. A lot of people crap on Time Warner, but I'm getting 25mb for about $40 with no cap. Not anyting to brag about, but it's solid and I can't complain about that at all.

I think a lot of people on here don't realize that there are numerous people who are in the same boat as you. A couple of friends of mine lived in Lexington and had wonderful internet. After having a kid, the moved to a larger house outside the city and the only cable company in the area told them they didn't have lines run from the road to their house and they'd have to pony up nearly $10,000 to do so. This didn't just affect them, but everyone down the road as well. They have a crappy satellite deal where they get a 2 gig cap at high speeds and throttle down to dial-up after that.

 
Most of Italy (me included) is stuck with a 7 Mbps ADSL. Lucky people have up to 20 Mbps ADSL, then those in bigger cities have optic fiber with up to 100 Mbps.

I don't complain because even if a patch is too big I can play something else and start the download for the night. I'm also almost full-digital, which means the preloading feature saves my life on dayones.

If we take that admittedly big assumption, why are games that were already announced not backwards compatible? Assumably, the games that were already announced already had publisher permission. Which leads me to believe that while publisher hold-outs might be a problem for now, emulation issues or at the very least the time it takes to ensure that emulation of a specific title are working might be the larger problem. Of course this is just a guess.

Still, I'm pleased with the state and speed of BC, even if it could be improved. Honestly, when it was announced, I thought that it would be as ill supported as the original Xbox to 360 BC.

Its so aggravating when I have about a half hour of gaming available to me and when I select the game I want to play....Oh look....a 1.5 GB update. It certainly makes me miss the days of just putting my game into my system and playing. But as Dustinator says...we have to Deal With it. Frustrating.

I think you have to had the physical disc in the drive to get an update for physical games? I seem to recall that being the case. On PS4 I just have it download updates at night for both physical and digital games. So far though I haven't had an issues of needing a 1GB update to play the games I have played on my XBox One.

If so maybe MS will allow updates to be downloaded even without the disc in the drive.

Games like GTA V and Destiny though do their updates in game so those I had to wait for updates sometimes when I fire up the game which as you said is REALLY annoying.

Generally if you have your console set to instant on, it will download all of the updates for digital games and for physical it downloads most of the data for the updates and then when you put the disc in it finishes downloading the rest and then applies it.

Your comment got me thinking. You know how in the Settings you can check for OS updates and choose to apply them. For people who don't have their XB1's set to Instant On, there needs to be a feature that lets you click and it will go through all the games in your library (digital and physical) and show which ones have updates. You can then choose which ones to apply, or choose to apply all of them. Like the way it works on Android devices now.

This way, when I know I'll be afk (like eating or waiting for someone) or playing an offline/single player game, I can manually have it update a bunch of stuff in the background without having to load up every game to check for updates.

Up to 40-60% is a lot different than 40-60%. Up to could mean 99% of the games at 5% off and 1% at 45% off. I predict lame as prices as usual. I buy all digital and am always disappointed with these "sales."
