 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

I want to get Wagnaria Season 3 Part 1. I don't usually buy Aniplex. Do their releases ever get any worthwhile price cuts or go on sale, or should I just go ahead and buy it now?
I'm actually pretty upset that I'm just finding out Aniplex bought that license. I figured Nisa had it and they put out awesome CE's.

huh, the Viz 30th anniversary coin rightstuf still has going on is decently impressive.

didn't think much of it as I ordered skip beat that I wanted, but got the package today and the coin has some weight to it

it's 1.3ounce/38 grams by my scale. etched in ect. still super ugly and I don't know what I am going to do with it, but the actual build is impressive lol

New Kickstarter-Exclusive DVD Upgrade to the Collector's Edition

Posted by Funimation (Creator)

We’ve got a pretty big update today for anyone who’s backed the Collector’s Edition of The Vision of Escaflowne through the Kickstarter.

We’ve received many questions about the Collector’s Edition—about the lack of DVDs on the upgraded version and the price compared to the similar Collector’s Edition sold via online retailers.

During the initial Kickstarter, we received a number of requests to upgrade the original dub DVD discs that were on the Collector’s Edition to Blu-ray, as well as to open this format to all tiers and not just the $175 level. This was a pretty major decision for us—we knew that following this request would sacrifice the exclusivity of the original dub to the Collector’s Edition level. However, the demand within this Kickstarter was so great that we realized it was the best and right thing to do.  Some fans have expressed disappointment in losing out on the inclusion of the DVD discs on the Collector’s Edition – so we are now going to rectify that.

We are adding the DVDs of The Vision of Escaflowne television series and Escaflowne the movie as an exclusive addition to Collector’s Edition backers who pledged to the Kickstarter. The DVDs will be housed in a separate case that will feature the artwork that was used on the Part 1 Kickstarter Edition version, to make sure that you have access to a release with this art as well. This DVD set addition will not be available to retail buyers of the Collector’s Edition, nor will it be available for purchase anywhere else.

With this change, Kickstarter backers of the Collector’s Edition will receive:

- The Vision of Escaflowne – The Complete Series + Movie - Collector’s Edition – Blu-ray set

The complete series + movie on Blu-ray
    A replica of Hitomi’s pendant
A 40 page hardcover art book
A special Kickstarter version of the chipboard box, still featuring the Nobuteru Yuki artwork but with a foil finish (Kickstarter exclusive)

- The Vision of Escaflowne – The Complete Series + Movie – DVD (Kickstarter exclusive)

The complete series + movie on DVD
DVD case cover matching the artwork used on the Kickstarter version of Part 1 chipboard box

- A theatrical-sized (40 inch x 27 inch) poster (Kickstarter exclusive)

- A set of Hitomi’s tarot cards, from the series (Kickstarter exclusive)

- A certificate of participation and digital wallpapers

We want to make sure that at every tier, you're getting a ton of bonuses that are exclusive to the Kickstarter and clearly differentiated from the retail release.

Thank you again for your support!

This movie already has a very nice collector's box which was released by Bandai Entertainment, and it even included the soundtrack... and wasn't priced anywhere even remotely close to $200. If this is how Funi is going to attempt to market "new" anime releases then the market is doomed.

Yep

Another anime series destined to go unfinished.

Hurrrrgh, I hate that dub so much, but Rachael did a wonderful job as Utena. Sadly, almost everyone else is grossly miscast. It improves slightly from the second arc onwards (the first 13 episodes were licensed and released in America many years before the rest of it), but man... Utena deserves so much better than it got, because the Japanese cast was top-notch. Can't friggin' wait for those Blu-rays.

And I love you all. <3
Nooo, I love the dub! Revolutionary Girl Utena is a classic! And I sorely miss CPM.

What the crap did I just watch?
North Korean propaganda about swans and rainbows... at least that was how I interpreted it since my speakers weren't on and there wasn't any sound.

I'm hoping the original Bandai release drops in price now that this new version's coming out. I only own the film on UMD.

Too lazy to check. Are any of these returning voices? That would be omega sweet!

Jet has a $10 off $35 coupon. Anyone can use it up to 3 times. I was thinking of using it to get Gundam Build Fighters bluray. Is the dub really that bad?

Have it on good word that when the remodel of the Best Buy I work at transpires later this month that they will be doing a in-store only clearance blow out of the CD/DVD/BD department as that department is shrinking from three aisles and numerous islands down to just a partial aisle. Will keep you guys filled in on whether this actually happens or not. Also worthy of noting that there is just one remodel crew that travels the nation (U.S.A.) so only one store gets remodeled at a time.

^^^

My store already shrunk the media section to basically new release stuff and a few new catalog titles. Everything else it pretty much online order only which is where I see them going. This has been in the works for a long time now as BB is pretty much just a show room for Samsung, Apple, and whatever other random big name wants to peddle their wares. But yeah, I tried to warn people that the media section will be getting smaller and smaller but many just laughed. Shame as BB is one of my favorite places to buy movies. Me and the CS staff were joking that in the future it will just be the new release island. I guess it isn't funny now lol.

That'd be a shame if all Best Buys followed suit.  I noticed just the other day that the anime section at my local remodeled store had grown from a couple of discs to two full cabinet sections.

That would be really weird bc usually BB just does pulls and sends things back to the distribution warehouse.

As far as remodeling goes, that seems a bit odd too. I noticed a couple of stores around me just got a new anime section for the first time. Most stores have about three aisles of movies. The store I frequent has about five and is very well stocked with all sorts of things, probably 3-4x the movies than the average store. I was also at the Mall of America Best Buy yesterday and gosh they have like eight or ten aisles and a bunch of shippers and boats.

If they start getting rid of movies then I don't have much of a reason to go to Best Buy anymore. But I'm guessing their offerings are going to continue to be based upon regional trends and flagship store location basis.

My nearest BB already shrunk their movies years ago. New release island, a handful of promo islands, one double sided shelf, and one half of another shelf. Anime goes on New Release stand only (aside from Ghibli and a few stragglers like Appleseed Alpha).

The bigger Best Buy still has a large amount of stuff to sort through, but anime is limited to two shelves and both are face up instead of spine up. They also only really do the big stuff. DBZ, Naruto, Ghibli, Sailor Moon, Ghost in the Shell, and then a handful of other titles scattered about.

I found Ranma 1/2 Set 1 (DVD) for $12.96 at Walmart.

I don't know if that's a good deal or if any of you are interested in DVDs since I don't really follow the Anime deals, but I bought it for the nostalgia.

Did NISA got out of the anime business? I haven't seen any new announcements from them and series they had released earlier seasons it seems as if the current seasons are getting picked up elsewhere.

Dunno but good riddance (provided their releases aren't going to Aniplex who are worse)

NISA were awesome and as of right now there is no word that they have stopped anime. Love Live streaming was picked up by Funi versus CR but who knows who will release it on BD. I like others am guessing it will be Funi (boo) so there goes any chance of continuity with the PE's. NISA were good because they got stuff that probably won't see the light of day. Not only that but they were that exspensive either compared to the liked of Aniplex and PonyCAN lol. So I hope they are still doing anime. Otakon is coming up so I guess we'll see. I'm sure they will only announce gaming related stuff. It'll be interesting to see what Funi and Sentai have.

haven't heard of them getting out but they lost a lot of steam with aniplex taking their titles back.

it's quite possible with both pony can and aniplex in the game a chunk of their market has gone away and they might not bother anymore.

alternatively I wouldn't be surprised if they were working out stuff to kickstart their next releases :p

OOOOooooh oooh can one of the stretch goals be "We'll dub it" and one of the much higher stretch goals can be "We won't give it a shitty dub"

The dub is terrible. Both dubs for Build Fighters and Build Fighters Try suck. Really wish Sunrise contracted Ocean Group or someone else to do it than license the Asia Dub.

I thought FUNimation already released Season 1 of Love Live?
No. FUNi had nothing to do with S1 of Love Live. S1 and S2 were licensed by NISA.

Well unfortunately that seems to be the case. Season 3 of both Wagnaria and Yuru Yuri (I think) were picked up by Aniplex and Season 3 of Love Live by Funi.
Pretty sure Love Live Sunshine isn't the S3 of Love Live. It is more of a spin off

Not to beat a dead horse, but looks like the Fist of the North Star complete series is now expected "August 22nd". I'm beginning to wonder if Amazon will ever list the DVD set "in stock" again, just to avoid sending them out.

NISA released Seasons 1, 2, and the Love Live Movie and CR streamed them as well.

Funi is streaming Love Live Sunshine which is a continuation of the franchise and streaming the broadcast dub. As far as rights to the show for release on BD, no one knows as of right now.

Yeah I just tried listening to it. It's so bad it's....nope, still bad.

I'll just keep it on subs. At least there's no issue with the original audio and subs right?

So many animes I want to buy this year. Hope sentai brings over gakkou gurashi.

Awww no love for Season Two? I've been waiting forever for the BD since the DVD has been out for years now. I'll be happy to add this CE next to Season One. :)

to be fair, even if they did there likely would still not be any love for season 2 as season 2 really doesn't deserve any love :p
Just like Shichimiya Satone

Dohohoho~

This is the best news thanks. We knew about the jojo bluray and I wish they had a release time frame on it. I wonder if the ranma set will somehow follow the other sets color pattern. I also wonder how many eps the HXH set will have since it's a pretty long series.

Pretty disappointing announcements for the most part. Them picking up Sword of the Stranger was nice,so I could sell my Bandai blu-ray for a nice price now.

Looking forward to Discotek's announcements, which am sure will be great.
