Just a quick question. I purchased a few retro games online from their recent Retro Sale and I only just got the chance to test them out and one of them (Super Mario Sunshine) didn't work.

Now when I ordered, I used $65+ from trade credit I had and another $10 on my debit. If I return Sunshine in-store, how would I get my money back, in cash or credit?
You'll receive it however you paid. Sometimes, trade credit is refunded in cash/gift card.

If you have a good gaming PC The CEMU emulator -- http://cemu.info -- is getting close to the point of running flawlessly games BETTER than a wii u. People have created 4k texture packs and it looks absolutely insane. No online multiplayer sadly, so if you love online MK8 or SSMB then ya a wii u is better. But if you just wanna play the dozen or so 90+ games in single player like super mario, bayonetta, donkey kong, etc than the emu might be a great option.

I played a bit of Zelda Wind Waker and it worked great, especially since I traded my Wii U last year into gamestop but still own digital licenses for a dozen games or so I can't even play and probably won't have any sort of discount when switch comes out.
wow i have no idea. now i am going to look for a wii u controller to test it out.

In store they have no way of telling how you paid for an online order, so just tell them you used your debit card for the whole thing and you'll get cash for your refund.

I picked up Pikmin 2 and Mario Kart Double Dash for around $40 from the flash sale. Mario Kart didnt work so I took them both back yesterday. They gave me their current price about $70 back on a gift card. Not a bad flip.

I really hope nothing incredibly awesome gets shown tonight because I really really don't want to deal with buying a Nintendo product near launch ever again.

Super frustrating and a waste of time or money for the most part. fuck nintendo and their "limited" bullshit.

Sing it sister!!!!#!!!
Yeah and I'm kind of done pre ordering if I'm not using flip credit or getting a discount/reward zone.

If I can't walk into a store and buy your garbage I don't need it. Let me know when I can.

Same

I will never understand a company that won't offer open preorders for anyone who wants one for a set period of time. Keeps fans happy and keeps scalping down.

NOA management has made it clear for years now that they desire to create an aura of "impossible to find" around their products. This is manufactured through marketing, product availability, and messaging. It is no accident. The low stock is an aspect of their marketing at this point.

That and they have no idea how to measure demand and fulfill it. They just set a low target well beneath the actual demand and know they will sell out and that's safe and good enough for them.

If this happens at every store, it's not bad to stock up during "flash sales" and return for boomerangs. I got my Sunshine that didn't work for $20 after CAG16 and now it's $35. GameStop done goofed here

It's very YMMV so it's not worth relying on for boomerangs. Out of 6 or 7 returns I've done in store after buying something online, they've only forgotten to properly adjust the price one time. It says right on the receipt how much you originally paid, so it's very unlikely they don't see that and adjust the return price to be what you actually paid

^ This

I have always been able to buy online with credit and get a refund instore in cash but it always matches the payment amount on the receipt.

IIRC, the wiiu didnt sell out at every retailer and was readily available day one and forward. Hopefully this is the same case for the switch, my kids would definitely want a new mario game finally in 1080p.

Thats not how I remember it. It wasn't as hard as the nes classic but pretty sure they were hard to find that first year.

regardless if your hoping the switch will be stocked fully I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

But that was because of the bad marketing campaign the Wii U had. No unknowledgeable parent knew it was a new system which in turn caused it to usually never sell out

The same Nintendo sales & marketing team that handled the NES Classic Edition is probably marketing the Switch. The NES Classic is still scarce even after the holidays and it is cheap and easy to produce. Does anyone really believe Gamestop is going to have any more Switches then NES Classics that Nintendo trickled in?

The 5 units is hearsay from local employees from multiple stores all have been telling about 5 per store.
Much respect for you and everything you do but I think your local GS employees are only providing their best guess.

Since many people seem to be making their own guess, I will add my opinion here and I can't wait to see how close I am.

Given that the last 2 generations of Nintendo consoles (Wii/Wii U) have had about 400K units shipped/sold in the US within the first week of launch, this will likely be similar availability. Please understand, (see what I did there?) that the 2M unit figure was only a Worldwide estimate of units available by the end of March.

Considering the size of GameStop sales in the market and their ongoing relationship with Nintendo, they should get at least 20% of that inventory or 80k units during the launch week.

Now lets assume that they keep about 20k of those units to sell on the website or sell at launch to people that didn't preorder.

They would then have about 60k units available to preorder among their roughly 5k stores or about 12 per store.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt on the release date though, since some of the GS employees may have seen internal paperwork, game release dates, and/or mystery skus with a 3/17 date. Nintendo also has appeared to shift console product releases to Friday's in North America starting with the New 3DS XL and the NESC while every other Nintendo console over the last 20 years has been released on a Sunday.

The thing is, NES Classic only shipped out a good 200K units while the Switch at launch is estimated at 2.5M worldwide.

I think it's unfair to compare the two. One is a cheap emulator that plays a bunch of old games, and the other is their "next gen" console offering that is a new platform for many new (and maybe remastered) games. I sure hope they are handled differently. :)

Just returned my Super Mario Sunshine and they did give me $37 and change in cash (current plus tax)

They didn't even care about the receipt. Just scanned the barcode, asked for my phone number I ordered it with and got my money. Definitely a flaw in their system

not to mention most people didn't even know the Wii u was a thing. I had many different people come over and say "what's that? Oh I have a Wii too" Nah buddy, this is a Wii ....U!!!

Very good information, so if they do get about 80K units across 4434 stores over launch week then 80,000 / 4434 = 18 consoles per store on launch week but considering they might get shipments each day of the week then there is a chance that each store gets 2.5 (18 / 7) consoles per store per day.

And remember that certain stores get more depending on their location like NYC for example. Their allocation are usually around 50 to supply a bigger base

We're also going to have BB, Amazon, Target, TRU and WM all fighting for that inventory as well, plus maybe Fry's, just here in the US. That's a lot of places to go around for systems.

It must be a regional thing bc here in cali, they were avail at all larget B&M. Target, BBY, Wally, and everyone else had them in stock.

So lets just say my store is getting a pretty good amount due to high volume while lower stores are getting a decent amount.
So would you say Blackbeard's estimate of 18 per store is low? High? Spot on?

What components are required for a Wii U trade in at GS? Also, did you hear about any console trade in promos toward the Switch? Thanks
Console, gamepad, ac adapter, gamepad charger, av cable OR hdmi cable, and sensor bar. And he said awhile back that there will be a trade in promo

Got a call from my local Gamestop's assistant manager (IDK why I got a call) but he said they would have Switch Pre-orders open in the morning.  Bonus amount of $75 on PS4, XB1, WiiU, and PSVR also bonus $30 on 3DS and Wii(!!!), these would be added to the base value.   He didn't specify in the voicemail if you had to trade them in with the Switch pre-order but I'd bet that the bonus is triggered with the console pre-order.  Just FYI.

Guess I would've made another $20 had I not trade in my Wii U during the bonus $50 gift card promotion.

$125 + $50 GC + $5 coupon = $180

$120 + $75 bonus + $5 coupon = $200

Well my old 1tb Xbox is definitely going for $200, tempted to trade my Wii U too but probably will not. I have a bunch of Wiis as well but don't have any sensor bars for them lol. Also my store has 28 pre-orders.
