Nintendo Switch Preorder Thread 2.0

So that kind of is my point, if Nintendo had all or even most 3rd party support would you have bothered buying a second system?
Yes, I would have. Remember, I'm a crazy video game fanatic. I own a Wii U, a PS4, and an Xbox One with a Kinect. I also own a Wii, 2 Xbox 360s, 2 PS3s, 2 PS2s, 2 Xbox originals, 2 GameCubes, 3 Dreamcasts, a Saturn, both models of the PS1, all 3 models of the Genesis, both models of the SNES, a NES, a TurboGrafx, a Master System, a Virtual Boy, and an Atari Jaguar. I own and have all the needed equipment to run an original PCB of Street Fighter II.

I am very, very far from an average consumer.

Nintendo could be the go-to home for the Yakuza franchise if they played their cards right.
I both disagree and hope that never happens. Sega has only strayed from Sony consoles with a remake, so I don't think there's a lot of chance of that happening. The fact that the Switch is far weaker than the original PS4, let alone the Pro, means that the only possible advantage would be the portability, and I'm not ready to make that trade yet with third party exclusives. I'd much, much rather see the Yakuza games ported to PC. The opportunity for the Switch and Japanese games is much more niche titles than Yakuza, things that currently tend to hit the Vita and therefore would not take the technological hit of going from PS4 to Switch.

The most important switch accessory, you cannot use the switch it out.

I should note you can use the Switch without it if someone takes me literal

They can keep Yakuza exclusivity. Just port Shenmue 1 and 2 to Switch and I'm good.

Ultra Street Fighter 2 is exclusive to the Switch. Time will tell how it's received if it is indeed the best version of SF2, but I think if old fans come back to the franchise and bring their Switch systems to work/etc and challenge other people... this could be a massive resurgence for fighting games on the market. And you are crazy if you think the diehard SF2 fans aren't interested in trying the latest version. YES they will be skeptical, as they should be due to past missteps, but there is a very solid chance this could become the version even the diehards get involved with. ESPECIALLY if this version brings in a bunch of new players. It's great to have a series and be dedicated to it, but gamers will still flock to something new if it proves popular enough. The last thing they want is to become irrelevant to the franchise they love so much.
I own at least 1 copy of SF2 on almost every console it was available on.... the switch will be no different and I can't wait (yes, I already own SF2 HD). Hopefully it releases before mid september. I have a flight to japan and we could kill a few hours with USF2, followed by SF4 on the 3ds, then sleep the rest of the way :)

you mentioned both Saturn and TG16 positively in the same comment. You have earned my respect.

Isn't it funny that Nintendo doesn't want anyone discussing the specs of the Switch though?  They haven't released any technical  specifications.  That way, no one can talk about it.  Launch in 2 weeks!

Nintendo needs to do a damn Direct already. The lack of info is concerning.

meanwhile Microsoft is already teasing the Scorpio for E3 2017...and I can't decide which system to save up money for

Considering my PC that I replaced last year was more powerful than the Scorpio will be makes that pretty easy. You either want the Switch for the exclusives and portability or you want a gaming PC. The Scorpio has zero hardware or software advantages over other platforms in the market.

I'd be in for that as well, despite playing both on DC when they first came out, including importing the European version of 2. Refreshing the story in my mind on the go before 3 is released would be great.

I think the Wii U ports help my point. It's the third party developers, not Nintendo who don't know how to make games that cater to Nintendo's audience. Who the hell cares if Wii U has Assassin's Creed 3 or Mass Effect 3? The Nintendo gamer wants something you can't get anywhere else, not a port of a PS3 game.
Or they can make ZombiU and Wonderful 101 and have it sell next to nothing because no one wanted the Wii U. All Nintendo fans want on Nintendo consoles are Nintendo games, so why bother spending millions to make something that'll just lose money?

There are 14 games on Wii U that have sold over 1 million copies. Not one of them is a PS3 port. There are 18 games on Wii that have sold over 5 million copies and none of them are PS2 ports or multi platform. Perhaps I'm misreading the market, but I don't think gamers on these platforms are there to buy ports.
Of those Wii U games, 10 are first party titles, and 4 are 2nd party titles. There's nothing that's not Nintendo IPs that sold for even a million copies. Literally one title was published in one region by someone other than Nintendo.

The best selling, non-Nintendo published game on the Wii was Just Dance 2 at 5 million. For a console that sold over 100+ million units.

Compare that to the huge list of 3rd party publishers that cracked 1 million on the PS2 and PS3.

I ought to save up for a PC, but I'm perfectly happy with my 2011 Macbook Pro right now, which recently had its RAM upgraded and I added a SSD. Runs faster than when I bought it.

It's going to be interesting to see how Microsoft handles exclusives with Scorpio. It's somewhat disappointing that many of their top exclusives are now on PC as well.

The portability might help that a little bit, as there was marginally better third party support on 3DS than the Wii U. Just having Sega/Atlus moving their support from 3DS to Switch would be pretty big for me.

I'm convinced now that it's not happening because they have NOTHING GOOD TO SAY.

If they're going to "confirm" specs it'll be confirming the Foxxcon leak from a few months back which is not a good look.

If they're going to "confirm" a phone app then people will bitch and moan.

If they're going to "confirm" online price it'll never be cheap enough.

So what could they possibly add that isn't a total letdown, "hey we got some more indies to announce!"

Which is why they need to overhaul their business strategy if they want to sell 20million+ systems again. Casual gamers are not the answer. Grandpa has his Wii Sports bowling and doesn't need to buy a new Nintendo. These casual gamers that bought 100million Wii systems don't spend money buying games.

The real shame is that the Wii U flopped due to corporate marketing strategy and first party game development cycles. It was a good dedicated gaming system but it didn't sell well because of all sorts of branding problems and lack of software support. Now Nintendo is instead trying to go back to the well with the original Wii again.

The future doesn't have to be more of what happened in the past. The future can still be written and mistakes can be corrected. Nintendo just seems too old and stuffy to fully realize their errors in the home video game sector. Their problem is they keep thinking they're the best; they won't change or adapt with the times. It's cliche, but its so true. The Wii is the worst thing that ever happened to us.

Some handheld mode gameplay of Shovel Knight.

I'm really hoping gamestop has an extra Neon Joy-Con unit I can swap out for.

The portability is fantastic for third parties. They could probably make a whole lot of money putting remasters on the Switch. A lot of people (myself included) would love to have a portable system with Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider, Batman, Resident Evil, Far Cry, Dishonored, Assassin's Creed, etc...

Good call. I did the same thing.
Great minds think alike. I did the same. By the way I thought puyo puyo Tetris was a launch title. I guess not.

Also does anyone know if the Best Buy pre-order for puyo puyo Tetris come with the free key chain?

So Nintendo Switch is featured in next weeks Best Buy ad and it clearly states that it will be available 3/3 but Zelda and 1-2 Switch say "Available Friday." :whistle2:k

Sports games are a pretty big deal. I've dealt with a lot of parents who told me they bought a ps4 or xb1 just so their kids can play madden NBA nhl etc.

They then tell me how they can't find a lot of kid friendly games on those systems.

Like it or not getting sports games on the switch is a big deal. If they fail to do so again that will be a big issue going forward.

Honestly, I would say give the Switch version a pass and pick up the Wii U version instead. The Switch version might be good, but the Wii U version had several features that actually took advantage of the various functions of the Wii U gamepad. Actual gameplay occurred using the unique experience of the gamepad. It was actually one of the better titles for showcasing the Wii U's unique offerings. Most of those extra elements will probably be squeezed down into the Switch's single screen, so I can't imagine them being better on the Switch.

Unless you just REALLY want to play Lego City: Undercover on the go, I would say just get the $20 Wii U re-release instead. That is assuming that you actually have a Wii U.

Well, you're not wrong. At the same time, this is something that Nintendo has very little control over. Companies like EA buy up exclusive rights to sports franchises, and have a virtual monopoly on officially licensed sports games. (the ones most sports fans care about) Nintendo can plead with EA all they want, but EA usually goes where the money is. They won't support the Switch with sports games unless there is a large enough perceived install base to warrant it.

What are everyone's plans for case / screen protector?  I'll be using the case from the Zelda SE, but I'm curious if there are other good options out there.  Also, I never usually use screen protectors, but I think it might be a good idea for the Switch.  Not sure what to do on that yet.

Also, why is Puyo Puyo $40 on Switch, but only $30 for PS4?

Is there any reason to buy the "official" Switch LAN adapter? We're having ridiculous unexplained lag on the Wii U the past couple of nights (games of Splatoon being disconnected entirely when my internet is running at 90mbps), so I'm just going to buy something now in hopes it solves the issue. Thinking of grabbing this.

There's no reason why the "official" one would work any different, right?

Should work fine. There were some that were incompatible with the Wii/Wii U but most were fine

Also, why is Puyo Puyo $40 on Switch, but only $30 for PS4?
As someone pointed out to me a week ago, it's because the Switch version comes with unique key chains. A Puyo themed one and a tetrimino. Digital version on Switch costs $30 since it wont have the key chains

Or you want the Scorpio or whatever else. Why do so many PC gamers not get that some people just aren't interested in the platform? Some people prefer consoles and that won't change, no matter how much you try and push the PC option down people's throats.

I really don't want to start a platform war, but -

It's not because they want to shove their way of life on you, but they are trying to show you that it is more cost effective than a console. That's all they really want to do. The only two real reasons to play on a console are to play its exclusives or because your friends are on there. Any other reason is easily debunked.

So in other words, if you want a PC elitist to leave you alone, just tell them you play games with your friends and they all happen to also be on that said console.

Also getting the case from the SE, but these two look good as well, and are BotW-themed:

The second one is five dollars more, but seems more sturdy. That would be the one I would go for if I already didn't have the other case.

Nope. There's also the convenience angle, and the fact that you can't buy AAA games physically on PC, or at least without DRM. Both things matter to a lot of console people.

In the end though, PC elitists should understand not everyone has the same preferences. Telling console gamers PC is the 'right' option just shows these people have no understanding of this. They must not socialize much when they can't accept this simple concept.

But yeah, I don't want another huge-ass argument either, so that is the last thing I'll say on the matter.

You can't fix a lack of objectivity, so you're right.

I remember the first comments were about it being a Street Fighter VR teaser.

Seems like something they threw in that they used to test the motion controls of the switch.

PC gamers just like buying tons of cheap trash games on Steam and then never play them. The most gaming they do is when they start a game so they can get excited that they can run it at the highest quality and then they post on Reddit about it to make themselves feel important and special.

Good points offered here. Also really liked their theories about the future story content DLC.

Whoever played during the gameplay is laughably-bad, though.
